Alias 'Document' folder appears in my 'Documents' folder automatically

Why does an alias 'Documents' folder keep appearing in my 'Documents' folder? Even when I delete it, it eventually returns. Bit worried this might be something more serious than it seems? Anyone else have this problem, understand what causes it or know how to stop it?

  • How do I create a folder to which PDF documents are automatically saved?

I save many PDF documents which I then attach to various internal forms.
Is there a way to create a folder to which the scanned document can automatically be saved without having to browse for the folder every time I save a document?

Unless your scanning software has that feature, "Save as" opens up a "browse" window by default in Windows or Mac. I had an old Lexmark scanner that allowed setting a default save location for "bulk scans", but I haven't seen that feature in years.

Perhaps you are loading a template that has a text block already on it.
You might try the blank template option and set that as your go to template in your preferences

  • Alias Application Folder

In my Applications Folder I have an alias Applications Folder.  When I deleted the alias folder it wiped out all my applications on my hard drive.
Does anyone know how I can delete the alias folder without deleting all my Applications?
    I am using OSX 10.6.8.

In my HD there is the main Applications Folder.  In that folder is another folder which shows an arrow on the folder but the name is blank.  When I go into the alias folder all my applications are there as well as the main Applications Folder. So I have 2 sets of applications.   It also tells me it is an alias when I ask for information on the folder.
As far as I understand your situation, the applications are not doubled, the alias just links to your main applications folder.

I deleted the alias folder by putting it in the trash.  When I did that all my applications (including the alias folder applications) and all the files normally attached to the applications ended up in the trash.
Yes, but after trying to move the apps and files back, shouldn't the alias be still in the trash and shouldn't you be able to then empty the trash? As you say, it came back automatically, which is weird. Do you have anything installed that might have to do with aliases, etc?
Is it just the alias or other things as well (slow system, lag, other problems)?
If the alias is just a thing sitting there, everything works fine and it doesn't bother you, then just ignore the alias and use your computer as usual (maybe until someone finds a quick solution).
I agree that completely wiping and reinstalling is a pain in the *** and that (if the alias is actually not a problem and everything else works fine) you should not do it.
    Is there any other problems???
However, if other problems are present as well and you entire system is messy and runs slow and laggy, you could actually consider doing a full reinstall including wipe:
If you don't have many important settings and you don't care about your setup, you could manually save your important things onto an external volume, and then do a clean reinstall. You would then have to do a completely new setup, etc. Since you copied your things to some kind of external volume, you can then reimport iTunes, iPhoto, etc. and put your other folders back on your new system. (Note that data in the libraries such as notes in certain applications and much more will be also gone unless you back those up as well. If you have applications that you don't want to download or install from discs again, you should save the installer on your external HD instead of the application as installed applications need permissions, are dependent on files placed by the installer, etc...)
Applications that don't require installations (drag+drop) could either be just copied onto the external HD or their disk images could be saved instead (this doesn't make much of a difference). Apps from the App Store can be easily redownloaded.
Others that you installed from CDs/DVDs can just be reinstalled the same way you installed them before.

  • Want to move all the sent, draft mails recieved on thunderbird to be sent to local folder automatically like global inbox

want to move all the sent, draft mails recieved on thunderbird to be sent to local folder automatically like global inbox . I tried to use filters, send filter addon but they didn't worked for me, even tried changing the account setting for "copies and folder" to set for moving sent mail or draft mail to sent to local folder but that also didn't work.
So is there a manual setting or an addon to work for it.

  • When I i open a picture from my Documents it automatically opens in Photoshop.  I want it to open in Lightroom. How do I change this preference?

When I i open a picture from my Documents it automatically opens in Photoshop.  I want it to open in Lightroom. How do I change this preference?

You cannot open an image with LR as you would with Photoshop , or Elements. (or a word document, etc)
The Lightroom program can only open "Catalog" files  (*.LRCAT)   Opening a .LRCAT file will automatically open Lightroom.
To edit images in LR you must first open the program, then IMPORT the image into the Catalog database (only ever once), then you select the preview thumbnail and go to the Develop module ( press "D")
Your edits in the Develop module will show on the preview in the library grid.
Your original image file is not altered, so will not look any different in File Explorer or Finder.
To get an image file with your Develop edits applied, you must "Export" a derivative file in JPG or TIFF format.

  • Is there a way that I can make my browsing history secure?? Like so no one else who uses my computer can erase it. Or is there a way that I can have it copy to a folder, automatically?

I would like to make it so that my browsing history cannot be cleared or is saved to another folder automatically. I would like to make it so that you have to have a password to clear the history.

To save it automatically when you close Firefox you could use the [http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/?addon=bb Bookmark Backup] add-on. That add-on can be used to save bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, preference files and other user profile data automatically. It saves 7 copies of your user data to a location chosen by you, one for each day of the week.

  • I still have no way how to deal with the LabView Data folder automatically created in the My Documents folder whenever I run the application

I tried numerous ways that some people suggested in this forum but did not succeed in having the LabView Data folder created somewhere else than in My Documents when running a built LabView application. Changing the target destination folder did not help at all. A member suggested to put some line like " defaultdestination = ..." or so into the build file, but I did not know where exactly to put such a line. That folder created is particularly anoying for people who don't normally use LabView but are only using the application. Please let me know when you LabView Experts out there have found a way to eliminate or relocate the creation of that folder at application startup.
    Thanks a lot.
    Tim, Van

    Tim,
use the path constant located in the Functions pallette under 'File I/O->File Constants->Default Data Directory'. It refers either to the default directory (which is (osdatadir)\Labview Data on my WinXP system) OR TO A NON DEFAULT PATH if you have defined one. To define a non-default path, got to the menu 'Tools->Options...' and change the entry under 'Paths->Default Data Directory'. This change will create an entry in the labview.ini file (located where the labview.exe is), e.g. the entry 'DefaultDataFileLocation=d:\temp' is created when I change the default data dir to 'D:\temp'.
Now for a compiled .exe with the name (say) myapp.exe you will find a file myapp.ini in the same location where myapp.exe is. It is usually an emtpy file directly after the application build process. Put the line 'DefaultDataFileLocation=(your path)' in this file.
Users of your compiled app can either
    - edit this .ini file to change the default,
    - or you can make the menu entry 'Tools->Options...' accessible in the built VI
    - or you can provide a self written dialog in your app and modify the myapp.ini programmatically
(This last way is probably not a good one since the user might have to relaunch myapp.exe in order to affect a change of the 'Default Data Directory' path constant)

  • Why Elements 11 Alias in folder?

I sucessfully (apparently) downloaded Elements 11 and Elements Premier from a purchased disc. BUT, in my apllications folder, within the Elements 11 folder, I have an Elements 11 ALIAS (which does not open) and a folder named 'Support Files' in which is Elements Editor which does open.
What do you think happened to the apllication for Elements 11??
In the Premier 11 applications folder, there is a Premier ALIAS. Then in the 'Support Folder'  there is a Premier application (which opens) and another Premier Alias.
So, what are these Alias' about??
Is Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor the name of the application for Adobe Photoshop Elements 11??
And are the support folders the right location for these apllications?? My other Adobe applications are within the folder of the same name.
    Thanks for your help.

The alias at top level is the welcome screen. The actual editor is in the support files folder, for one of those mysterious adobe reasons.

  • Alias desktop folder icon lower resolution than original

When I create an alias to a desktop folder its icon is of lower resolution than original.
Even when I copy and paste from the respective get infos I get the same result. Any ideas?

Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as "Carbon Copy Cloner." Preferably both.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups.
Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.
Reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.

  • "Resolving alias to..." error on opening alias to folder (10.6.6)

Whenever I open an alias on my desktop for the first time I log, there is a momentary delay in opening the folder that says "Resolving alias to NAME OF FOLDER". When I open the alias after that, it opens the folder immediately.

    Hello,
I've had this annoying problem for a while, and finally found a "sort of" solution... it's more a 'workaround' that worked for me.
I found this script ( http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Resolve-Aliases.shtml ) by Jolly Roger (all credits go to him). Now that script uses Spotlight to resolve and fix your aliases in a folder.
That script is in app form, what I did was to Edit the script (Edit menu, at the top) and edit the source folder, so it doesn't ask for a folder when it's being executed.
    Comment the following line:
--set searchFolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folder to search:" without invisibles
    And add this one:
    set searchFolder to "/Users/your_Username/Desktop"
And save it as an app.
Then go to System Preferences, Accounts, Select your account, Startup and add the application you just saved with 'Hide' On.
This will run the script once you log in and will resolve the aliases so the very first time you open an alias there will be no more 'Resolving alias' delay.
