Alias in trash dec 31st 1903

my trash wont empty, I have a IMAC 10.5.8 straight no windows partitian, I want to upgrade to Lion here this weekend new printer won't print wireless with out the upgrade do I need to rid my computer of this piece that won't empty ..or by luck if I purchase and install the Lion upgrade will that enable the file to leave?

If you are running Leopard 10.5.x you will first need to buy and install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 from Apple and then update it to 10.6.8, I suggest getting the Combo Updater for the 10.6.8 update from the Apple download website. And Then you can call Apple and order Lion and they, Apple, will send you a redemption code to your Apple ID email address that you can redeem at the Mac App Store to download and install Lion.
You can't go directly from Leopard 10.5 to Lion 10.7.

Files with wierd characters and dated Dec 31, 1903

My laptop crashed on my last weekend or actually never shutdown properly. After rebooting the computer I had two files on my desktop with weird characters dated Dec 31, 1903. I could select the files and put them in the trash, but they never delete. After rebooting several times the files still appear in the trash but I am unable to delete them. However, once I get info on them, they disappear. Does anyone know what these files are and how I can remove them? I was using iMovie and external disk that I think might have caused a problem, but I'm not sure.

You can also:
*1. go to My Computer*
*2. right-click on your system drive (usually C:)*
*3. select properties*
*4. select the tools tab in the property dialog that pops up*
*5. click check now button in the top section under Error-checking. This will launch Check Disk.*
*6. Make sure to check the checkbox for Automatically fix file system errors. Then click the Start button.*
It will restart your computer to run Check Disk and fix any errors. Once Windows is up again you can go to Boot Camp in the control panel and set OS X to be the startup partition & reboot into OS X. That should get rid of the weird files in your trash.

All WinXP Files Created On Dec 31, 1903, 8:00 PM

All my Windows files on both my Internal and External HD show the "Date Created" as Dec 31, 1903, 8:00 PM. The "Date Modified" is the correct date and time. My clock is working and the Mac side is correct. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply- Isn't Meta Data the part of the file system that incompletely describes part of the file so you can do a search on a file with other than just the file name? It's been a while since I got into file systems. But how could every single file on the NTFS formatted volume end up with the same creation date?
Update- I just powered on my Macbook in windows xp pro and all the creation dates are now correct. I don't know what to say. There be gremlins in this laptop!

Dec 31st Birthday's not showing up!!

I've tried posting this before and nobody has answered me. I'm curious if anyone else has posted all day events on Dec 31. I've got 3 relatives with December 31st birthdays and they don't show up on my published calendar. I would like to send my relatives a link to my birthdays calendar but am too embarrassed that it doesn't function properly.
Anyone else having this problem?

Does your calendar name have a space in it?? I just tried your problem and my published calendar (was named "Test 3") wouldn't update until I changed the name to "Test3" (notice no space). This space-in-published-calendar-names has been a pest for quite sometime, and hopefully Apple will fix it soon. I'm not sure if it is universal though, it could be connected to ISPs.

No Service (No Phone, TV or Internet) Since Dec 31st

All our Verizon services were lost after a brief (approximately 30 minute) power failure in our neighborhood (Fair Lawn, NJ). About an hour after the power was restored, the TV reception was slow and the internet would lose connectivity. Finally about 90 minutes after power was restored, we lost everything: TV, internet and phone. Contact Verizon but a tech would not be able to get to us until Saturday, January 4th. Very frustrating. The tech had me do some basic fix it yourself things but none worked.
In my attempt to try and get this resolved sooner, I'm wondering if the battery unit is the cause. The box that contains the battery has a light on it that says (I think) Replace Battery and it's now lit. Could this be the cause of everything failing or is it something else? Anyone have any experience with somethign like this?

they do work over weekends but on business lines and emergency lines you as a residential customer are on a 3 working day wait time for repairs unless you are prepared to pay more for same day service as business users do

All my .mov and DV changed into these wierd files ive never heard of Before.

Did my computer get infected with some wierd virus? the files are named some bizarre binary code EXAMPLE:
þü-¤é¯à.±Œ© date modified reads as dec 31st 1903 1:30 PM it says it is zero kb for file size and kind says ALIAS...
Very strange all the files have a different wierd binary language and the modified dates are all dec 31st 1903.. 57 files have been affected.. they were all .MOV files or DV files before...this incident..now they dont work and are not recognized by finder..when i go to "get info" the dialog box appears for a half a second then dissapears..

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Strange file in my trash...can't delete

Hello. Yesterday, a file showed up in my trash. The file name is:
"?␀␀␀ð
ð.␀␀"
If I get info on it, the info window pops open quickly and then disappears. The file also appears and my trash icon shows as empty. However, when I re-open the trash can, the file is back. The Date Modified is Dec 31, 1903, 6:00 PM and the kind is alias.
Does anyone know anything about this?

those do look like windows ghosts. if you have bootcamp boot into windows and repair the windows drive with [chkdsks|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265].

ICal backup not importing!

Hi!
I'm scared and anxious. I backed up my iCal before I did the Erase and Install for an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. I saved the .icbu file right onto my external so that I don't have to worry about the drag-and-drop not working out for me... but turns out... I still have issues!
I opened iCal and tried to 'restore', located the iCal file, but I can't click on it! It won't let me open! And I also tried double clicking on the .icbu file in the external, but thats not working either - I get an error saying 'Operation cannot be completed'.
Even worse: in the external, the date modified for the .icbu is Dec 31, 1903, with size: Zero KB, and kind: Alias.
=/ I'm scared those three things = no iCal backup really happened and all my data is lost.
Someone...anyone?? HELP! Please?????

Rohan in t-code mass find the reason for rejection and also try and block the sales order if you find it useful.
Steps are below:
First have those open order references in an excel sheet.
Go to MASS, input Object Type BUS2032 and execute. There block "Sales order header data" and click on "Fields". There select the field "MASSSDHEAD_S-LIFSK" and execute.
Now click on "Multiple selection" (right arrow), copy those order references and press "Shift+F12" and execute. There on top, assign some block and execute. All your sale orders will be blocked.
On the other hand, you can also change the status of those sale orders by assigning "Reason of Rejection" in mass. To achieve this, go to TCode MASS, input Object Type BUS2032 and execute. There block on "Sales Order Item Data" and click on "Fields". There block the field "MASSVBAP-ABGRU" and execute. Follow the same procedure as explained above.
Now see the document flow of those sale orders.

Script Works on MacBook and Mac Mini but Not MacBook Air

I just bought a new Mac Mini and 11' MacBook Air, and I have a script that works on the former but not the later. There could be a problem with exclamation point in a url, but didn't try.

Best method to determine the week number of a month - SQL Server 2012

Hi,
I'm searching the most valid and tested method to determine the week number respect to a month.
Fe, the 1st January falls in the 1st week of January, the 1st February fall in the 1st week of February, and so on.
I've found many solutions but I'd like to know possibly the best one.

returns 2 and not 1. It's a Sunday.

The one-off in my query would be very simple to figure out - I forgot to add the +1. Is too much to expect from you that you could figure it out yourself?
And likewise, in my post I said that you should use "week" for weeks starting on Sunday, and "iso_week" if your week starts on Monday. Uri neglected to observe this, but you had the information to correct it. If you had been interested
in doing some work yourself, that is.
Nevertheless, there is an issue that I overlooked:

This returns -51. This is because with ISO week numbering, Jan 1st falls into week 53 of the previous year, if it's on a Friday or later. Week 1 is always the week of Jan 4th. When you week this does not happen, as week 1 is always the week with Jan
1st. (Dec 31st is always in week 53 or 54.)
To correct for this, we need this query:

Changing from a Fiscal year to a calendar year

Hi Everyone,
We need the supporting documentation, guidance to change from a Fiscal year to a calendar year. Also please share your experience, suggestions, thoughts on this?
Currently, our year-end is SEP 30th, now there is a requirement to change the year end from SEP 30th to DEC 31st.
N:> Keithley GL Superuser USA > Setup > Financials > Calendars > Accounting
Calendar is already associated to the set of books and the budget year for 2011 is already opened in the Production instance
We entered the budget through a spreadsheet upload using ADI. We can roll back the budget and reenter if required
We have already gone through the metalink note IDs 102460.1, 134362.1, and also the below document from Oracle Support

Below are our open questions at this point
1) Can you please let us know what would happen if the transition closes on the middle of the month
Example: We will close the month end, year end at the end of the month but what would happen if we close at the middle of the month (say DEC 15th instead of DEC 31st)
2) Will it be short? From 1st October 2010 - 31st December 2010.
Or will it be long? From 1st October 2010 - 31st December 2011.
Can you please let us know the pros and cons for each of these?
3) According to the Metalink note Id 102460.1, the application will prevent you from making changes to calendar the unless you meet the following qualifications:
a) All the periods to be changed have a status of Never Opened.
This condition does not match to the current situation at the clients place as we don’t have the status "Never Opened" for any of the periods in the accounting calendar in
subledgers
b) A budget year that includes the periods to be changed is no t yet opened.
Budget year is already opened for the year 2011 at the clients placec) An encumbrance year that includes the periods to be changed is not yet opened.
“Encumbrance” is not applicable at the clients placed) The periods to be changed have not yet been copied from the GL Calendar to Project

What is it with Verizon lately and their lack of concern for customer satisfaction?

I am increasingly frustrated with Verizon and their lack of concern for customer satisfaction. I have been with them since they began and through the years they have become less and less customer friendly. All I want to do is do an early upgrade to the IPhone 6, I have one line that is out of contract, two that will be up in May and one in October. All the lines are eligible for early edge but only if we take a Motorola phone we do not want because they have some contact with them to push phones no one wants. Seriously Verizon what the heck is wrong with you, trying to force people who have been loyal to you to take a phone they don't want because they paid you to do so. I'm not trying to leave for the competition but at this point I may have to. I had even checked back in November when I saw we were eligible for the early edge and was told we could only do the Motorola phone but that promotion would be over Dec 31 and after that we could upgrade to any phone we wanted. Imagine my disappointment when we go to a verizon store to find out that was a lie and they entered into another lame contract with Motorola to push a diffent phone (last years model that didn't sell) and we would be forced to take one. I contact customer service and was told to bad, sorry we lied to you but it's either that phone or wait out your contract. Well maybe it's time to switch because it's very obvious that Verizon no longer cares about their customers, hey Verizon can you hear me now?

I'm not trying to get out of my contract, I have been with Verizon for 15+ years and have always been able to do an early upgrade, we just forgo the discount $50 or $100 we would get off the new phone. I have been told several times by Verizon employees that if I am within 6 months of my contract end I could do an early upgrade I just would not get the additional money off. I was also told in November that I could do the edge up for any phone after Dec 31st. I was lied to and that seems to be happening more and more. Verizon has been changing its practices to the detriment of its loyal customers. One of the reasons I liked Verizon and stayed with them for so long was because they were always willing to work with their customers and Verizon can change or alter their agreements anytime they want. I wish they would train their emploves not to be deceptive and tell people one thing and then do another. I can understand if I was trying to cancel my contract but I am not and would be extending my contract by two years as opposed to leaving in the next 6 months.
