Aliases and 403 error

I use a Xserve with MacOS 10.4.3 in order to host our clients' web sites and databases. We have been hosting more than 10 sites for a year now, but I encountered a bug with our latest client that I do not understand (I replaced our client's name by "client" in the following):
Main site:
URL: www.client.com
Root: /Volumes/MediaHD/FTP/client/web
Database site:
URL: base.client.com
Root: /Library/WebServer/Opsis/client
Both sites work fine, but my client wanted to access the database through the following URL: www.client.com/base. So, in SA, I created an URL alias for www.client.com:
/base -> /Library/WebServer/Opsis/client
And here comes the bug:
When I save the configuration in SA, everything works fine for few seconds, i.e. the URL "www.client.com/base" goes to "/Library/WebServer/Opsis/client/index.php" which is the home page for "base.client.com". However, if I wait few seconds or reload the page 2 or 3 times, I get a 403 error message. Sometimes, it is even weirder: every time I reload the page I get a new question mark, because the access to an image has become forbidden, until I finally get the 403 error message.
Looking at the logs, I get nothing, except "81.66.29.66 - - [23/Jun/2006:19:11:23 +0200] "GET /base HTTP/1.1" 403 297" in access.log.
Of course, "base.client.com" still works, with no 403 error, whereas it goes exactly to the same home page, i.e. "/Library/WebServer/Opsis/client/index.php".
Another oddity: there is another URL alias for www.client.com, which is:
/media -> /Volumes/MediaHD/media/client
and this one works fine!
I deactivated WebDAV for both sites, and deleted the Realms I had defined too. But nothing changed.
You will find below my httpd.conf file for this site (0014any_80www.client.com.conf):

What does the error log say?
It is usually more relevant in debugging 403 errors than the access log.
The only odd thing I see is that you're aliasing /base to /Library/WebServer/Opsis/client whereas I'd expect it to be /Library/WebServer/Documents/Opsis/client (note the additional /Documents directory.
This may or may not be the problem depending on where the base.client.com site is configured.

  • Calendar and 403 error

Hello!  I have one item on my iCloud Calendar that is giving me constant 403 error messages.  It is just a single Calendar event, but unfortunately it is set to repeat every month into perpetuity.  Argh! I can't delete the item from any device or even by going onto iCloud.com, not can I alter it in any way.  I get the darned error message several times a day - basically whenever I have to interact with Calendar on my Mac. I can click Ignore and go on with things, as it doesn't affect my other Calendar items, but it is super annoying.  I also tried deleting Home>Library>Calendars, as suggested in similar previous posts, and rebooting, but nothing changed (and I did see my calendars being re-formed after doing this).  Any other suggestions for me?
    Thank you!
    - BH

    Step 1
You may be trying to access an invited event that you declined, or one that was rescheduled after you accepted it. The error message should give you a clue as to what it is. If the calendar is on iCloud, you can bring up the Calendar on the website and select
              Show Declined Events
from the popup menu with the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page. The declined events will appear in gray, and one of them should match what's shown the error message. [Credit for this solution to ASC member Psi.]
    Step 2
Follow the instructions in this support article.

  • 10.5 iCal Server User having invite issues and 403 errors.

I have a 10.5 iCal server running. One user has constant problems. I've made a new account and the issue persists. A lot of 403 errors. People can't always invite him. He can't always invite others. Most invitees show up with "!" by their names. The log is showing that his folder in the CalendarServer can't be found (though sometimes it is) and that he is not enabled in the Calendar SACL, though the main group he belongs to is enabled.
    Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

No solution, gave the 10.5 user an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard.

  • Can't connect to pinterest on Mac - 404 and 403 errors

Hello all and thanks in advance for any help!
Our iMac can't connect suddenly to pinterest.com only.  It connects to all other sites just fine and up until about 5 days ago, connected to pinterest fine too.  None of the browsers connect to it, and all our other devices in the house connect to it fine.
    Browsers that don't connect:
    Chrome
    Firefox
    Safari
What we've tried that didn't work:
clearing cookies, cache, we history etc. on the browsers
    restarting the iMac
Thanks again for help with this weird problem.

So, we're still having this issue and we even called our ISP.  They had me run a traceroute and determined that it is timing out at ip 216.182.224.207 which is an amazon server: hxxp://216.182.224.207.ipaddress.com/
My ISP said that once it gets past all the "tbone" servers then it was out of Time Warner's realm.  I called Amazon and they told me to call my ISP.  I'm at a loss here - ideas?

To bypass this error attempt either a restart of your computer, or use an alernate broser such as firefox or chrome. If you already have another browser the latter may be the easier fix.

I am not sure what you mean by "Flash Player for steam"; the only Flash Player installers I know is the ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) and the plugin (for other browsers); you can find both at http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header

  • Podcast download error - Stopped (err = -3259) and sometimes a 403 error

I've am having some issues downloading a podcast I pay for. The podcast orignailly was automatically downloaded via the providers autodownloading tool. It stopped working.
There was another option to download through iTunes and that isn't working either.
The download starts but times out after a minute or so. The errors are stopped = -3259 or stopped = 403. The 403 error happens less frequently.
I tried restarting the download and that worked for the first couple of podcasts, but has since stopped.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and tried many of the goofier but safe sounding things I have read on message boards. Many of the things I'm reading are from 2007 and 2008 so I think it's not related to this issue.
Not sure if it is related but also having issues viewing streaming video. Seems to stall out after 3-5 minutes.
    WinXP Service Pack 2
Avast Anti Virus 4.8 Home edition
    iTunes 8.2.1.6

    Additional information.
I have restored registry settings to a date where I know that I was receiving mp3 downloads.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes
I am able to download other files including Itunes. I don't think it's a size issue. Itunes was a 70+MB file.

  • I'm downloading from Itunes and have come across error = 404 and 403. Anyone know what this is? Corrupted file maybe?

I'm downloading from Itunes and have come across error = 404 and 403. Anyone know what this is? Corrupted file maybe?

It means that iTunes looked for something on the iTunes Store servers and either it wasn't there(404) or the iTunes Store servers denied access to it(403). These can't be resolved at your end.

I keep getting errors 400 and 403 on the download of certain podcasts. I followed the instructions for removing certain apple cookies that start with svi but that did not help.
Has anyone encountered the same problem and been able to solve it?

I saw this post in another thread regarding Bill Maher's podcast:
Ahhh! I read in another thread saying that no one outside of the U.S. seems to be able to >download the Bill Maher podcast. Apparently, they're going by IP address. So, it's not the thought >police but rather the copyright police who are preventing you from downloading.

  • Errors 404 and 403

    Hi there,
So after having completely rebuild the whole site, since it
didn't go online last time and leaving out all little template
mistakes I made before, i.e. not using templates this time, I
thought I was finally gonna see success, but NO!!!!
I am still prompted a 403 and 404 error after I put my site.
I really don't know what to do anymore. The ftp access is correct
    and works when tested.
The only thing I can think of is that under 'Manage Sites'
    > 'mysite' > I am prompted to enter a http address in the
http field under 'document' and 'site root'.
This wasn't the same with my previous website, but am not
sure whether it could interfere with the uploading of the site
    anyway.
Does anybody know any tips as to how to solve this problem?
There must be either something wrong with the ftp or the site
files. Does the ftp have to be on "passive"?
    Thanks a lot!

sounds like an incorrect path. Could you post what you are
    using for the
path and for the URL in the site definition?

  • 403 Error Message on a website?

    Hello,
I tried to access a website, and I received a 403 Error Message.
    It said:
    "Error 403
We're sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for / on this server.
You do not have permission to access this server. Before trying again, run anti-virus and anti-spyware software and remove any viruses and spyware from your computer."
It gives me the option to fix it myself, and then that link took me to this message:
"Your request was intercepted by Bad Behavior, security software which protects the Web site you visited from malicious activity, such as hackers, spam and viruses. We apologize for the inconvenience, but your request matched a profile of suspicious activity. This problem is usually quite easy to fix.
Your computer's IP address was determined to have recently sent spam or engaged in malicious activity as reported by the Project Honey Pot monitoring service. This means your computer is most likely infected with viruses or other malicious software. See below for more information.
This problem may be caused by viruses or spyware on your computer, or by malicious software that pretends to be anti-virus or anti-spyware software. Ensure that you have REAL anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer, that they are kept up-to-date, and that you have run a full system scan using each tool. Once your system is cleaned of viruses and spyware, please try your request again.
The free Microsoft Security Essentials provides reasonable protection against a wide variety of malicious software.
If the above suggestions fail to resolve the problem, click Back and contact the e-mail address you were given for further assistance."
Then the contact email address was invalid!
The website is a valid teen site, nothing shady, and I haven't participated in any malicious activity that I know of!
Please help, I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a Macbook, using Firefox.
    Thanks,

  • 403 error when trying to access a previously uploaded document in App

I have 2 machines on one I am running WLS 10.3 with an admin server and a managed server called "dev" on a live box.
On the other, my dev environment I upgraded from 8.1 to 10.3 so it upgraded my server to have the admin server all in one i.e. deploy apps to that server too.
I have an app with a few entries that the deployment descriptor ( ejb-jar.xml) refers to a directory within the app, the directory is a location where files get uploaded to. It reads something like thisL
    ./app_name/web/uploads/document/
THe documents get uploaded to the correct location on both machines, but on the machine that has the managed server and admin server I cant actually view the documents - whih are viewed through a jsp....there is a Session Bean that creates a link to the document based on an id within the database(and not the actual filename itself), for retrieving the document, which is populated in a jsp. However in the Bean the directory is set like this:
    String docUploadDir = "/upload/document/"
so the link gets generated like this:
    www.mydomain.com/upload/document/?text=12345
This works on the upgraded WLS version where the domain got upgraded from 8.1 to 10.3, where the admin server bundled up as the apps server as well. However under the WLS 10.3 domain i created(which base location and domain names are the same as 8.1 version) I get a Forbidden 403 error when I try and view the documents.
Im assuming the forbidden comes about because I am trying to access a location on the machine that I shouldn't be allowed to. However where is the relative "docUploadDir" actually suppossed to exist?
    Thanks in advance!

    - When you click on the link to the realm, you get the block message?
It's a little unclear what you've done to configure the web server and what you did to get the message.

  • SAS Token failed with 403 error while generating for each request using ARR module

    Hi,
We are doing an e-Learning application, which plays a course on the browser (inside a div control). The course contains list of static contents such as html, js, css etc., and media files .mp4. We are hosting the static contents (.html, .js, .css etc) into
Azure blob storage and media files into Media Service and CDN.
When user triggers to take a course, the browser first request the Web Role with landing page (Ex: FirstPage.html) and with Course Unique Id - Ex:
https://cloudservice1.cloudapp.net/course/courseid/firstpage.html. We have written a custom ARR Module (http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/url-rewrite-module/developing-a-custom-rewrite-provider-for-url-rewrite-module),
which receives the request, parse it and generate blob storage url with SAS token using C# code for each file. Then route to blob storage. (we have already passing storage account details to ARR Module using Web.config)
For single user, the course plays fine. But we do the load testing with > 400 user load (with 5 instances), we are getting many 403 errors (and not all files). If the load is less than 200, we don’t get such issue.
Also, we are using REST code to generate the SAS token. When the SAS token expiration time extending more than 60 min, getting error “Access without signed identifier cannot have time window more than 1 hour”. As the code is exist in ARR Module, unable to
refer the Storage Client assembly. This 60 min time interval is for each file request – so there could not be an issue on expiration, but feeling this might be an issue?
Can you please point me what could be the issue and how to solve this. Is the ARR Module caching the SAS token and providing the same even after the expiration time?
    Many Thanks, Thirumalai M

    hi,
There is a similar thread (http://stackoverflow.com/a/17572316 ), I recommend you could refer to it.
And I'd like to know how to set the expiry time in your code, and you could see this page (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-dotnet-shared-access-signature-part-1/

  • Http 403 error message when connecting to WRT120n router

I recently upgraded to the WRT120n router at home. I quickly connected my desktop computer, my wife's Mac and two Lenovos, but my son's HP Pavilion cannot access the Internet. It returns the http 403 error message. Windows (Vista) and Network Magic tell me the laptop is connected to the router and the Internet, but the browser does not work. Have tried IE, Chrome and Firefox - same result. Have also tried to connect with cable. Hooking up wirelessly with WPA, was no problem, but the browser is unable to access the Internet.
    Grateful for any help.

What is the ip address you are getting on the Vista Computer..?
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Wireless Network Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...
Adjusting Browser Settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your LAN Connection...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Wireless Network Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the Following DNS Settings' Preferred DNS 4.2.2.2 Alternate DNS - 192.168.1.1>>Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...You should be able to go online...
