  • Is a scrollable text frame possible with hyperlinks embedded in the text?

    I'm new to this whole digital design world. I have a document set up with several links, some active buttons and I am struggling with this scrollable text frame. I have the frame finally working but it only scrolls from the preview button in the overlay creator panel. From the Preview Window, preview on the Internet, or exported as a SWF everything but the scrolling frame. Anyone have any suggestions??

    You can, but it's not very elegant. For one thing, whatever text you have will have to basically be on another webpage addressable by URL in the iframes expression. I guess it would work, though. It's just like having two pages, where maybe one would suffice, you know?
    There are some javascript examples that I have come across that would probably work. The HTML tags seem to be unreliable....I have seen some that only work on IE and not for the mozilla based browsers.
    Anyways, here's an example of a scrolling iframe....it's the messageboard from my Guestmap...
    http://guestmap.dirtdoog.com
    As you can see...it's not great, but it's workable.

  • Multi-state scrollable text frames

    I've created a multi-state object with 5 different articles the problem I seem to be having is after scrolling half way down on one and switching to another it remains half way down the scrollable frame. Is there a way to have it return to the top of each state when switching between the states ?

    Sorry for the misplacement,
    I'm making a portfolio and have 5 separate projects to display, I was hoping to display them on one page with 5 separate buttons allowing the viewer to switch between them seamlessly than to have them on 5 separate pages.
    I've got the desired effect thus far using 5 scrollable text frames combined into one multi-state object but switching between states keeps it relative to where the person was in the last state. Due to some articles being smaller vertically than others this can be a problem as it shows up blank which will probably create an impression of the information being non existent or the program not working.
    I would appreciate any help on resetting the state to the upper left between changes and not just on the initial opening, or any alternative methods that would create the desired effect.

  • Creating Scrollable text frames in InDesign

    I've been trying to create scrollable text frames in InDesign CS6 and, for the life of me, cannot figure out how to do so for an interactive PDF.
    I've done so for touchscreen devices before through DPS and the scrollable frame option, but I've never tried to do it for something non-touchscreen/mobile.  I don't even know if it's possible, but I am sending this to someone who may not have touchscreen access with touchscreen scroll functionality and I wouldn't want to risk a good portion of text to go unread because of a lack-of functionality.
    So, I guess my question is:  Is there a way to create a scrollable text field for an interactive PDF that could be scrolled through using a mouse or keyboard?
    Thanks in advance!

    No. It's DPS only.

  • Hyperlinks, scrollable text frames, and Multistate objects

    I have a DPS layout with a scrollable text frame on one side, and a multistate object (MSO) on the other. I want to be able to hyperlink parts of the text in the text frame to specific states in the MSO. How do I do this?

    Ask here and make sure it's a detailed feature request along with WHY
    this would benefit all users.

    And note that this is strictly an InDesign limitation so make the

    Your voice can't hurt and with Creative Cloud, new features can be added

  • Scrollable Text Frame bug?

    Hello fellow DPS users,
    I seem to have activated a weird bug with the Scrollable Text Frame but I hope I can solve it with your help.
    I've tried everything I can think of already but without good success.
    Here is the problem. I have a page that looks like this:
    So this is how it should look like and how it does look like. The red square in the left upper corner with the white text is actually a scrollable text frame which  you can pull down to get more text within a white square. The problem is, the text is above the red square and I want it to come down when you pull. So I can't set the "Initial Content Position" to "Upper Left". That's why I'm using "Use Document Position". But for it to show like I want (like in the image above) my InDesign document looks like this:
    No problem, you think, I solved it. Well, not exactly. Since when I go to the real thing and test it, it initially looks good, but when I go into story view I get this:
    So in story view it still shows the exact position like in the InDesign document... But in the page itself it does show well. The real problem though, is that it doesn't use the exact document position but apparantly 10 to 20 pixels below it. So it actually shows incorrectly in the page, and in story view it shows the real thing.
    Can anyone help me? Is this a known issue or am I forgetting something?
    Thanks, Julien.

    Well here is an update: In stead of pulling the red square down and using the "Use Document Position" as a starting position, I tried pulling it up so I CAN use the "Upper Left" for starting position.
    It works like a charm, but still I rather want to pull down. But now I at least know it's the "Use Document Position" that's not working correctly.
    Anyone know a workaround? Or else Adobe can put it on their todo list
    Another thing for Adobe Developers to put on their todo list if they happen to read this:
    If you upload your own table of contents preview you cannot undo this.
    And you cannot upload your own storyview previews.
    Maybe for in the future

  • Need Dynamic boxes position to move with scrollable text postion

    I am having a problem that I can't figure out.  The textbox is scrollable and I need the boxes that are created to move according to the position of the word it is supposed to be hovering over.  I would think I could create an ENTER_FRAME listener for each siteButton and change the y position with the getCharBoundaries() of the word but I keep getting errors.  Here is the codee below:
    webSite = infoBox.taNotes.text.match(regex);
        if (webSite.length > 0){
            for (var i in webSite) {
                var index1 = infoBox.taNotes.text.search(webSite[i]);
                var index2 = index1 + webSite[i].length - 1;
                var x1 = infoBox.taNotes.getCharBoundaries(index1).x;
                var x2 = infoBox.taNotes.getCharBoundaries(index2).x;
                var y1 = infoBox.taNotes.getCharBoundaries(index1).y;
                var h1 = infoBox.taNotes.getCharBoundaries(index1).height;
                var siteButton:linkButton = new linkButton();
                infoBox.buttons.addChild(siteButton);
                siteButton.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, siteButtonMove);
                siteButton.x = infoBox.taNotes.x + x1;
                siteButton.y = infoBox.taNotes.y + y1;
                siteButton.width = x2 - x1 + 9;
                siteButton.height = h1;
                siteButton.blendMode = "multiply";
                siteButton.name = "siteButton"+[i];
                siteButton.siteLink = "http://" + webSite[i];
                siteButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoNotesWebsite);
    function siteButtonMove(event:Event):void {
        if (webSite.length > 0){
            for (var i in webSite) {
                var index1 = infoBox.taNotes.text.search(webSite[i]);
                var y1 = infoBox.taNotes.getCharBoundaries(index1).y;
                trace(y1);
                trace(event.currentTarget.name);

    Dear havoc:
    You leave out some details so it's not exactly clear what you want. (InDesign does have modal dialog boxes, though I don't know why you would want more of them -- generally a user interface designer tries hard to reduce the number of modal dialog boxes...)
    What does it mean for text to "start on the previous line where the previous text ended"? What does it mean for "text to end"?
    Are you dealing with multiple text frames?
    How is your data getting from your database to InDesign?
    If you are using data merge, you can just put 3 fields on the same line.
    You can also do something similar with XML, though I would warn you away from that.
    But probably I would just instruct the database to combine the 3 fields together on export.
    So, please give us a concrete example of the trouble you're having. A screenshot would be excellent, too.
    I don't think thre is any reason you would nee to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 (or CS5.5) for this.

  • To group images with created text frame and apply label for it...

Also suggest me how to place these images in center of the page as well as in top or bottom of the page margin.

    The shadow effect has to have something to be applied on, but by default text frames borders and fills are invisible.
    If you set the border of your frame to a color & thickness, you'll see it gets a shadow of its own, independent of the text. (Try it with dotted and dashed lines!)
    Additionally, if you set the fill of your text frame to a solid color, you'll see the single solid shadow you were expecting.

  • I need help with a 1 Page Form with scrollable text field (5000 limit characters) and printing

    Hello, I have no training in using Adobe Acrobat Pro or Livecycle Designer so I need major help with a 1 page form that I am attempting to create. Basically the form will be used to nominate employees for a Job Well Done Award.
    The form contains the following:
    1.) The name(s) of the employees being nominated and the date of the accomplishment.
    2.) In the middle of the page I have a section for a write up, limited to 5000 characters, this is were I am needing the most help. A couple of things, about this section: The font is set at 11 and I don't want it to change. The text field has multiple-line, scroll long text enabled. The text field is a certain size and can only hold so much text, then it starts to scroll, which I am ok with, I like that feature. The issue I am having is during printing. I would like to keep the text field scrollable but when I print I would like to be able to print everything in that field. Executing this is the problem, I have no clue how to do it. I was hoping for some setting within Acrobat Pro or LiveCycle to be available, but the more I read and research this, it appears that it may require java, xml, basically some coding. I don't know for sure.
    3.) Below the text field I have another field for the person nominating to type their name and right next to that another field for a digital signature.
    4.) And finally below those two fields I have a Submit button that is setup to start email application so the form can be emailed to the proper inbox.
    Thank you in advance.

    With an Acrobat form the only thing you can do is export the text to
    another location (like a blank field on another page) or to another file
    format. With an LCD form you can expand the text box itself, but you'll
    need to ask about that over at the LCD Scripting forum.

  • Help with scrollable gallery frames!!!!

    hi everyone
    i'm a pathetic amateur in web designing but i'm kinda slowly
    getting into it.... currently working on my website, obviously...
    well, going straight to the point i'd like to add a
    scrollable (horizontally) picture gallery just like the one
    you can find in this website:
    http://www.killyridolsclub.co.uk/main_photonov24.html
    can someone come up with the code for this thingy and
    possibly tell me where to paste it into that crazy nonsense of
    codes of the page where i want the gallery to be displayed?
    oh please dont forget to mention how to place pictures and
    stuff inside this scrollable frame!
    thanx for your time and patience
    much appreciated

    Put this between <head>...</head>
    <style>
    .gallerycontainer{
    width: 500px; /** Your Gallery Width **/
    padding: 10px;
    overflow: scroll;
    }.gallerycontainer img{
    margin-right: 20px; /** Picture margins with each other **/
    </style>
    Insert this code where every you want to display your gallery
    container:
    <div class="gallerycontainer">
    <img src="picture1.jpg">
    <img src="picture2.jpg">
    <img src="picture3.jpg">

  • Problems with scrollable frames

    I have an old DPS file that has videos inside a scrollable frame and they work fine. However, i am updating my files and in the new CS6/cc when i create the content, I group all the items, cut and paste into the smaller textframe and when i go to the Folio Overlays panel with the text frame highlighted, the option for scrollable frames is greyed out.  Video is highlighted but it will not allow me to create a scrollable frame.  Does anyone have a recommendation for what i am doing wrong.

    You are correct, I missed your point.
    I got it this time though and it worked!
    Wow, nifty work around.  Thanks.
    Now that I have successfully embedded video within the scrollable frame, I am concerned about the 2 GB max from apple.
    I researched streaming video and successfully tested this, however it seems the frame for the video needs to be scaled to the preferred viewable size because there is not an option for “play full screen”.  As you can see in the screenshot below, I am trying to place the video under the play button using streaming content.
    Do you know if this is possible?

  • Help with adjusting layout, re-sizing text frames and images to fit new margin?

    i'm using InDesign CS5.5. I have a layout with several text frame boxes as well as some jpg and pdf images. I'm expanding the margin on one side and want to expand the text frames to utilize the extra space rather than just shift everything over. I've used the adjust layout script (which still requires some manual adjustment after) and obviously everything can be done manually but I'm looking for a more efficient solution. One challenge is that my pdf image needs to be re-sized separately to maintain scale of the image, the text frames just expand horizontally. What I would like is to have is a script that can do all of this at once, or is there a way to save the layout settings and apply them to my other documents? I have almost 300 documents to adjust... Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks.

    It could probably be modified to run on all open docs or a folder. You should ask over in scripting. InDesign Scripting
