Aliasing in Final Cut Pro 4.5 and on 20inch wide screen Dell monitors

Hello everyone. I have a question that has been stumping me for a few weeks and then realized that I should ask the best forum in the world. First off, all the standard def. videos that I work with in FCP 4.5 appear to be aliasing and this also has been consistently happening in QuickTime outside of FCP. When I output videos to DVD or tape the tapes look great on my broadcast monitor and TV. I have tried a variety of screen settings in my preferences and still nothing. I have ensured that everything on the timeline has been rendered. As of now, I'm fresh out of ideas. So I was wondering if anyone out there in FCP Universe has experienced something similar to this and may have some suggestions that might prevent me from pulling what little hair I have left out of my head. Thanks a bunch
Erv

If you're only watching on your computer monitor, you will not see full quality - you need to watch on a TV or Broadcast monitor. There's a whole section in your manual on how to hook up a TV to your system.
If you're looking at DV footage in Quicktime, QT Player is only showing half the resolution and doubling it. You need to set the video to High Quality. (somewhere under cmd-j).

  • I have Final cut Pro HD sequence and I need to burn this on a DVD

I have Final cut Pro HD sequence and I need to burn this on a DVD, my sequence lasts 1 hr and 33 minutes. What are my options? Is it better to export as a Quick Time movie or using the compressor? I'm new to the compressor just learning, please help.

Select your sequence in the browser window, go to the File menu and choose Export Using Compressor.
When compressor opens, choose the DVD best quality settings, 120 minutes.
For audio and video both, choose both the m2v video and the AC3 audio. (Dolby Professional)
Choose a destination for your files, and hit submit.
When it's finished, import these files into your DVD SP project, and make your DVD.
Be sure to choose the 16:9 anamorphic settings.

Are you using Mavericks. If so you should update FCPX

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Quicktime 7 compatibility issues. Error 39!

I see some people saying Quicktime 7 is not compatible with Final Cut 4.5 and some saying it is.
I upgraded to 10.3.9 and then Quicktime 7 and I started getting error 39 at this one spot in my timeline and then crashing if I tried to play just a few seconds ahead of that spot. I tried trashing the prefs but that didn't do any good. The individual files play fine outside the timeline so it isn't corrupt media. I tried rerendering the effects that are at that point but that didn't help. I tried copying the entire timeline to a new sequence and that didn't help.
The strange thing was that when I took the part of the movie that was having trouble and deleted it from the timeline it still got error 39 when just playing over the empty timeline where the media used to be! This led me to realize that the problem lay in some Quicktime audio effects I had about a second in front ot the error 39 spot. I took off the effects from that audio but it didn't help. Then I deleted that audio from the timeline and just pasted it back in from the original clip and then it finally got to working.
Now I know nothing about the software, but I thought there might be some connection between the fact that I had effects that FCP labels as "quicktime effects" on there from my days in Quicktime 6.5, then upgraded to Q7, and perhaps those old effects don't work in Q7? I don't know.
So, my immediate problem is solved but I thought this experience may be of use to someone else. And perhaps some compatibility issues can be brought to light.

I would assume the Software Update program has sufficient logic within it to detect that my friend is running Final Cut Pro 4.0 and it would therefore be disastrous to install QuickTime 7.3, thus removing QuickTime 7.3 from her list of suggested updates. Would someone at Apple please fix this?
Sorry, but Quicktime is a component for SO MANY things, not just FCP. Sorry, but the OS doesn't detect that older versions of software are on there and won't be compatible...this is where you need to have a little knowledge. And sorry, but you need to have a little knowledge. If things are working, DO NOT UPGRADE unless it has been tested and cleared. In the case of FCP 4...it has not.
Rule of thumb...if you use older software, you have to stick to older versions of the OS and components that that software relies on.
How many things were broken with Vista? So many that the HUGE community let out a cry and now XP is available again configured on machines or as a stand alone buy. And no, Vista didn't warn that certain applications wouldn't work either.
You gotta research and find out. This place here...this forum...is a FANTASTIC place to find stuff like this out.
BTW...Apple doesn't read these forums, only us users. Gotta submit feedback here:

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1 and a Macbook

I am looking to buy Final Cut Studio. I was hoping to get some feedback on this question: Must you have a MacbookPro to run Final Cut Pro 5.1 (and the rest of Final Cut Studio), or will it run on a Macbbok without any problems? I would really like to hear from People who has actually have run Final Cut Pro 5.1 on a Macbook and what their experiences were. I know the Macbook does not have the ATI Mobilty Radeon X1600 graphics card like the MacBookPro does. So was that an issue for anyone?
      Other OS

    Here's Apple's official position: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303782
However, there are several people running most of the Studio Apps successfully ... except possibly Motion. With FCS2, chances are Color won't run either. You should be able to search here for similar postings; this topic comes up frequently.

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Final Cut Express 3.0 - 5 minute captures then freeze

Something I have found with Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Final Cut Express 3.0.
After Updating to Tiger - 10.4.11 and Quicktime 7.4.1 - Both Pro 4.5 and Express 3.0 will not capture more then 5 minutes and 12 seconds. If you are having this issue the solution I used to fix both Pro and Express issues was an update on the software. Final Cut Pro 5 fixed the problem (or 6 if you can) and with Final Cut Express, version 3.5 fixed the issue but if you can go with FCX 4.
Let me know if this helped or if you have found a different solution. Downgrading the os might help but that is too much of a pain and it's time to upgrade the software anyway.

    #29: Need AGP Graphics card
Shane's Stock Answer #29 – Error: “Need AGP Graphics card”
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302667
The Final Cut software is looking for a graphics card type that is required for that version of the software. FCP 4 and FCP 4.5 were released when AGP cards were the requirement. Attempting to open this on a Mac with a PCIe graphics card, such as an Intel Mac, will cause this error. FCP 4.5 is not supported on the Intel Macs. If you happen to have a PowerPC Quad processor Mac and get this error, you can try this hack:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
You can also press the "esc" key as you launch FCP. This enables FCP to open and run, but know that it might not work optimally.
If that doesn’t work, or if you have an Intel Mac, you are going to have to upgrade to a supported version of FCP…and FCP 6, part of Final Cut Studio 2, is the latest version.

  • I'm running OS X, but I can't run Final Cut Pro 1.0 and appropriate upgrade

I recently purchased a Macbook with OS 10.4.6 on it. I have Final Cut Pro 3, but I can only install it via FCP1 and upgrade to FCP2 and finally to FCP3. However, when I try to install 1.0, it says that this system cannot support it. I can't seem to figure out how to run Classic mode either.
So, my question is, what are my options to run this software? (I really do not want to purchase the newest software.) Also, I know someone who has FCP3 full version (not an upgrade); would it be possible to install this software and use one of the serial numbers from one of my other software disks? Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

FCE is more limited but depending on your needs it might be fine
    check out http://www.apple.com/finalcut
why do you feel you need to download an upgrade
after FCP 4 (3-4 years ago) you no longer needed an older version installed just the serial number as they discovered the problem that you are running into now

  • Final cut pro 5.1 and photoshop cs2  w. macbook

it seems that the reviews have been up and down with the usage of these programs on the macbook--considering the graphics card in this puppy.
i currently have the old school powerbook 15" 867 and i am considering about getting into the macbook 2.0g (with 2gig ram)--my only concern is that i use those two programs an awful lot--pretty much the only thing i use that makes my computer really work. considering that i am a student on a tight budget, and that i do have G5 machines at school to do my heavy duty editing, does anyone know if there has been any more updated reviews about these programs and the macbook? if anything, it should definitely be better than my old school powerbook right? it has been quite awhile since i been in the hunt for a new computer. any help would be greatly appreciated!
    powerbook 867   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This is my simple advice, buy the correct tool for your software. Final Cut Pro is NOT supported by Apple on the MacBook. It supported on the MacBook Pro. You weren't using an iBook before you had a PowerBook, why would you get a MacBook now and not a MacBook Pro? If I were you, I would get a MacBook Pro with the base amount of RAM and upgrade that later.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 crashed and will not open (only gives unusual error)

Final Cut Pro 7 (from Final Cut Studio 2 installation) crashed sometime yesterday at 8 and any time it was opened it oulde give an error saying that this version of Final Cut wasn't supported by G4 and needed to be upgraded to G5. This is far from true though since it's been working properly and without trouble for about 2 months.
Also, and I'm not sure if it's related or not, but installer.app stopped working after this happened. Of course, I want to know what could have caused this to happen. Could it have been from switching any settings or working with certain HD footage?
It's a MacBook with Snow Leapord if that helps.

yeah, you have to be careful with your terminology, otherwise you start a firestorm.
Given the ONLY information we get in solving issues is what people write, accurate terminology is critical to solving the problem. If people need someone to read their mind, then they should to take their problem into a repair facility where the tech people can directly deal with the machine.
    Have fun.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Log and Capture Frame Sizes

When importing from a Roland VR-5 mixer into Final Cut Pro 7, we get black border/bars on the left and right sides of the preview. We didn't think anything of it, that it might have just been the preview window. These bars are recorded though, it's as if we're not recording the full frame size coming out of our mixer. We went into the settings on the VR-5 and everything was configured to be 720x480, and that the settings in FCP matched. The image still gets cut off. Any ideas?

    Some background:
720x480 is a non-square format. It can either be the equal of 640 x 480 (4:3) or 954 x 480 (16:9) depending on what you tell your editing software the incoming stream will be.
If you told FCP the incoming stream is DV/NTSC 4:3 and you are getting a pillarboxed image, FCP is thinking you are sending it a 16:9 version and is filling the the sides to keep the aspect ratio correct.
It would help to know a whole lot more about settings within FCP and what your mixer is putting out.

  • Final cut pro 5.1 and final cut pro X

I've just installed final cut pro X. But I stlll have some projects I am working on in final cut pro 5.1. I don't seem to be able to continue to work on those projects, since they don't open anymore.
Can I not use my old final cut pro 5.1 anymore?
    thanks

No it doesn't. When I want to open the 5.1 projects I put on my external hard disk, I get a message " failed to open" or something like that and the announcement that a rapport was sent to apple.
    thanks

  • Looks like final cut pro does run and "runs well" on macbook

    http://www.creativemac.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43717
"Contrary to the bizarre rumor, the MacBook can indeed run Final Cut Pro, and it can run it quite well, if these tests are any indication. For Final Cut Pro, we ran four individual tests to compare performance on a variety of functions and in both HD and SD. In most cases, the results were fairly close. The 13-inch MacBook beat the dual G5 in two of four tests, tied it in one and lost out by one second in another. All of the tests were rendering tests, which, of course, doesn't tell the whole story. But it does give a good indication of the power of a computer's CPU."

Final Cut Pro while it does run it is not supported to do so.
Please be aware also that the report only tested functionality that is not impacted by the GPU. For instance, the MacBook will more than likely fall flat on its face, comparitively, when faced with real time effects. Using FCP is not only about rendering and encoding speeds. There are other hours, day, weeks etc infornt of FCP that does not involve neither rendering or encoding.
It is a skewed report that does not taking into the account the actual "using" of FCP.
As a cheap alternative to an MBP for portability reasons… the MB will be fantastic.

  • Mavericks and Final Cut Pro 7 - Log and Transfer crashes

Hi all. I (perhaps unintelligently) upgraded to OSX Mavericks on my Mac Pro while working on a project in Final Cut Pro 7. What is good news is that FCP 7 still works for the most part. The bad news is that Log and Transfer crashes.
I have a Panasonic P2 camera and I dump video via FireWire 800. When I first click on the Log and Transfer button, nothing happens. When I click on it again, the Log and Transfer window opens, but then FCP 7 crashes.
Is there any way to get video from my P2 card into the project without Log and Transfer?
Also, would any of these options work?
Trash preferences (working to figure out how to do that on Mavericks)
Worst case, re-format and re-install Lion (Don't have much time to do that)
Please let me know if you have a work around or a fix for this. I need to have this solved TODAY.
I appreciate your help in advance.

I am having the same issue on my iMac that was udated to Mavericks a while back and apparently I haven't tried to log and transfer anything since.
The error comes up everytime I have a my Sandisk High Speed Card in my lexar Fire Wire 800 card reader. The Log and Transfer screen pops up and it starts adding the clips and instead of populating the screen, it crashes. Mine also says FCP quit while using the canonIHL plug in, here's a screen shot of the indication.
I agree, this needs to be resolved ASAP. I'm dead in the water. The only thing I can do is transfer the raw files into a folder somewhere, then import the clips, but then to have them as ProRes files I guess I would have to use compressor before hand. I've done it before, but it never runs as smoothly without it being natively imported.
