Aliasing on XDCAM HD footage

After update, no more flickering but aliasing issues. Sotware also very slow to load and run project. Scrubing impossible.
Any ideas ? TX !!!!

  • Xdcam hd footage in premiere cc not good

    Hello All,
Tested CC today after many years with fcp7. My XDCAM HD footage finally can be played and edited natively without to many artefacts but we are still not there yet. Not to mention how slow the software runs. Scrubling is almost impossible. Hope this will be fixed ASAP.

This footage is not very difficult to play and works just fine in Premiere Pro CC.  More likely the problem is your system just can't handle it.

  • Handing off XDCAM EX footage for an Avid based client

Just wanted to check the workflow for handing off my XDCAM EX footage to one of my Avid based clients,
My original thoughts were to dump the footage using the XDCAM transfer software, then just transfer the files to their drives or burn to a DL DVD.
will they be able to use the mp4 files as they were captured using my mac?

i'd suggest you give them the files as MXF wrapped clips ... you can do this from FCP using Sony's XDCAM Transfer or from the original camera files using Sony's Clip Browser app
alternatively have your AVID counterpart install Calibrated Q's XD Decode codec bundle so that they can read the same quicktime mov's that you're using in FCP

  • Premier Pro CC can't edit XDCAM EX footage

Adobe: Please fix the bug that prevents Premiere Pro CC from playing XDCAM EX footage properly.  It plays with glitches, pixelated, horrible, unusable.

I'm working with XDCAM HD (MXF from PDW700) and XDCAM (MP4 from EX3) in Premiere CC....
Everything works fine...maybe something wrong with your system?

  • Specific set of XDCam EX720p50 footage won't play in Premiere (or After Effects)

    Hi There
I've been given a media drive full of past projects and media by a client, which contains (among other things) .mov files which Quicktime Player Movie Inspector tells me are XDCam EX720p50 35Mb/s VBR 1280x720, 16 bit integer (little-endian), Stereo 48Khz.  The sound plays fine, but the video shows only a red screen with occasional digital-dropout-like square flicking across the screen.
This PC system is newly installed and running OK, and footage of the same type (given the same credentials by Quicktime Player) from a different client plays fine in Premiere
(Quicktime player will open both sets of files and give you the info, but sends you to the extra-codec page)
So my conclusion is there's a problem with the set of files that won't play (rather than the system)
    And my question is....
WHAT CAN I DO?  Can anyone give me some advice on how I might get these files working?  They have been edited before in a previous version of Premiere by another editor, without issue so they should work...
    All help appreciated
    Thanks

    (Premiere CS5.5, Win 7 64bit, core i7 2600K at 4.8Ghz, 16Gb RAM, GeFore GTX 570)

I have a similar problem. A friend sent me the .mov files he recordedin the XDCAM 16x9 1920x1080 . I can't import them into my Win7 Premiere Pro. Codec Missing or unavailable. Lots of people seem to have the same proble id using a PC - particularly when they have been sent the .mov files on a hard drive. The folder
I can play the videos using VLC but not on WindowsMedia or DivX (sound only) or with QuickTime ( won't load - needs new software from Adobe plugins)
If this is a codec problem why can VLC play it?
I have checked out the files with MediaInfo and they are slightly different to the above. Are there ary rules to determing the value of the parameter for the bat file for my mov file. I think this looks like stereo but you will recognise the information you would need. I tried the current bat but that has another audio file map.

  • Remove pulldown XDCAM 60i footage???

Source XDCAM EX 60i footage was brought into FCP via Sony's Transfer tool.
We want to remove pulldown and have the footage be 23.98 (24p). We have tried various renders, etc. and to no avail, it removes the wrong frames, looks fractured and overall looks horrible on playback.
Can anyone suggest how to get this 60i footage to true 24p???
It was so much easier in the past working with 29.97 (24p) and easily removing frames to get the source clips to 23.98 - it would always grab the right frames and look as good as SD can afterwards.
    Thanks.

Did you shoot it 24p? Because if you didn't have the camera set to record the footage as 24p, meaning recording the footage with pulldown, there will be no pulldown to remove...so yeah, it will look like crud.
You can try the Nattress Film Effects plugin. That will make the 60i (29.97) footage look 24p...without actually being 23.98. The only way to really get 23.98 footage from footage shot 60i is via a really good capture card (Kona 3) or a Terranex transfer.

  • Can I edit on a ProRes timeline containing XDCAM EX footage and DVCPRO?

I have a documentary project of which the majority was shot with the EX-1 at 1080 24p and I have been editing that footage contained in a 1080 24p ProRes (standard quality) timeline. We have some extra interviews that were shot with a Panasonic Varicam at same frame rate and resolution. Will I be able to drag the DVCPRO HD files directly into the ProRes timeline and edit with it and the EX-1 footage?
I assume that whatever footage I insert into the ProRes timeline is being converted to ProRes on the fly. This has worked well with the EX-1 footage. Not sure how it will be with the DVCPRO HD footage...will it be too taxing on the CPU? If it was, I think my fallback option would be to transcode all the DVCPRO HD footage to ProRes using Compressor...and then pull it into the timeline.
If anyone has had experience with this, I would very much like to hear your comments.
    Thanks, John

HI Tom, thanks for the reply, I was afraid of that, I did not know you could do limited trimming in the QT PLayer, this might just help me out

  • AME won't load up Sony XDCAM-EX footage.

I did a multicam shoot on many cameras including the Sony F3 which uses the XDCAM-EX codec. I need to re-export in a low res H.264 to do some offline editing since i have so many cameras to work with. I tried to drop it in from the windows explorer and it said it's not a supported format. I then tried to que them from Premiere (which loads up fine inside Premiere) and all I get is the red offline image. I didn't record in 4:4:4 since I didn't have a Gemini on set. Do I need to download a codec for AME to be able to read it or am I missing something?

    Adobe CC

    Hi Dan,
Could you send us your source via a private message? I can provide an ftp site if it's too large for something like dropbox.
Disabling Native Sequence import in AME will probably solve this problem for you:
       - AME -> Preferences -> General -> Uncheck "Import Sequences Natively" checkbox.

  • Jerky XDCam 1080 footage on Quicktime

    Hi everyone,
I recently updated my QT from 7.4.5 to 7.5.5, and now when I export XDCam sequences (under current settings) as QT movies, and try to play them full screen, they have a very subtle jerkiness. It never happened before this update. Any ideas on how to solve that problem? Could there be anything that the update doesn't take care of in QT regarding XDCam codecs? I have tried compressing them with ProRes and other settings, but if the movie is 1080 it keeps happening. I tried the same movie on different system running QT 7.4.5 and it worked fine...
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Hernan

    Thanks Andy,
that was a good idea. I just tried it though, with several clips that were created months ago and the problem persists....
I even tried some raw clips that I converted to .mov with the XDCAM converter software a while back... That's how I used to check all my recorded material after dumping it to a hard drive, and it always looked nice and smooth. The video is jumpy now, especially with pans and tilts - I can see a subtle stutter in subject movement during steady shots as well though.
I reinstalled Quicktime one more time, ran Software Update... nothing.

  • XDCAM footage EXPORT CRASHES

Im using XDCAM HD footage in the project. Everything renders as it should, but FCP will not let me export the sequence. Halfway through the export, it crashes and quits the application.
There is 1 clip that is slowed to a speed of 50% , but that should not make any difference.
All of my software+hardware is up to date.
Thank you for your answers- C

How are you exporting? Via Sony XDCAM or via Quicktime?

  • FCP6 Dark XDCAM footage

This may have been answered elsewhere, here goes:
I'm bringing in XDCAM EX footage into FCP 6.0.6 through the Sony XDCAM transfer utility. The colour bars look great on the waveform and the vector scope, however the footage is dark and a little noisey. I've read all the discussions about not believing what I see as far as accurate colour on FCP, but I work on a lot of projects - just today I've had Panasonic, Cannon EOS and GoPro footage to work on. They all are fine. But without changing anything other that the sequence settings to work natively in XDCAM, the XDCAM footage is dark. I even have another show on the go with XDCAM and Nikon footage cut together and it looks fine. Before I call the cameraman and ask for more exposure on the next round of shooting, is there anything I should do when importing and processing the footage?
Sequence settings: (I let the first clip set the sequnce for me) XDCAM EX 1080i60, Unlimited RT
17" MacBookPro Quad, FCP 6.0.6, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, QT 10 and QT 7.6.6

Thanks BenB, I understand that. But the issue is what I see on the waveform monitor and vector scope. The waveform monitor tells me I have crushed blacks and peaks at 60 units and the green screen background is at 30 to 35 units. I don't have any problem with other XDCAM clips that I have. I was asking of there was anything I did when I imported, or if there was any setting I might not have right, that would cause XDCAM imports to be processed in this way. In the end they may have been underexposed, but I have to check out what I did before I talk to the cameraman.

  • XDCAM footage read as MP3 audio

Hi I tried to replace footage and relink footage with EX1 XDCAM MP4 footage. Premiere has a bug where it thinks the footage is audio. This happens when the you relink footage with the same name as the original clip. So if for example i have offline clips which Premiere can't find, I try to replace them with the correct files in a directory (the file that Premiere is looking for in the first place), and Premiere replaces the missing file with what it thinks is audio even though it's MP4 video. If I just drag the same file into a new project, there is no problem however. This is a bug.....

  • Premiere Pro CC has a BUG (glitches) when playing XDCAM EX and XDCAM footage

I work with XDCAM EX footage and since I upgraded to CC all the footage now plays with glitches.  Sometimes it just shows green.  In addition to it the audio goes out of sync if you continue playing.
I did some research and other people are reporting the same issue but with XDCAM footage.
Adobe, please fix this bug.  I can't edit anything like this.  Also in the mean while let us, creative cloud members reinstall CS6.  I can't just sit for days waiting for a fix.
I'll try a doing a clean reinstall of everytjing in the computer but if issue this persists, by tomorrow I'll have to switch back to Final Cut X.

Maybe Adobe needs to expand it's beta program before release.
    Adobe Premiere
Multicam edits switch angles when relaunching a project in Premiere CC (probably best to do multicam edits in CS6 for now)
    More multicam quirks
Update 7-1-13: Adobe has posted a candid response to the multicam bugs.
Match frame may not match to the correct clip
    Keyboard Shortcut panel is blank
Audio dropouts, possibly due to image sequences
Pressing M twice in the source panel adds a second marker instead of editing the first
Visual corruption when playing XDCAM media
Several reports of Effects Panel lag
Premiere CC still losing render files
Timecode is not preserved when sending to SpeedGrade
    Labels can disappear in CS6
Importing media files first and then importing an XML can prevent freezes for large XML files

  • Really noisy, compressed looking XDCAM footage ... help!

I posted this at Creative Cow, but didn't get any satisfactory responses yet.  Any people here work with XDCAM EX footage?
I've posted an example on Vimeo (please watch in full res or download original QTs)
    Native XDCAM: http://www.vimeo.com/8372158
    ProRes Converted: http://www.vimeo.com/8372033
Converting to ProRes seems to alter the gamma, which makes the noise even more noticeable.
Is this amount of noise considered normal for EX1 and/or XDCAM EX? Or are my early models noisier? Maybe I'm more sensitive to artifacts, but I think the amount of noise and compression artifacts is redonkulous.
    I'm using these settings:
    Here are my PP settings:
    CineGamma 1
    Black -4
    Detail -8
    Crispening +20
    Frequency +30
    Cinema Matrix at +35
These settings are meant to reduce noise according to this post here: http://www.xdcam-user.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=338&sid=523f2986b8956...

    Ok,
I promised I would post again if i figured this out - I wish I had given that more thought, as the issue, turned out to be me, being completely silly.
BUT, in the hopes that I am not the only crazy beginner out there, here is what I found ( I hope someone else can benefit from this hard lesson)
    CHECK YOUR MONITORS RESOLUTION SETTINGS!
Yes, that was my issue. when I first purchased the HD LED TV, I used an old interim HDMI cable that was far from ideal. It caused many issues with my display setup, and I had to eventually put it on a very low resolution to get it to work. As a result, when I got the proper HDMI cable, and have been using that one ever since, for some reason , and I wont even attempt to make excuses, it completely slipped my mind to reconfigure the resolution of the T=HD LED TV back to 1080p.
Sigh, anyway, the quality coming form the AF101 and the Atomos Samurai through to AE now, is perfect!
Next challange - figuring out the AF101 shallow depth of field - I need to find out what settings onthe camera will allow me to get more of the scene into focus.
Thanks for the help guys, I hope that by reading about this silly mistake, others will be able to avoid it! :-)
    Pierre
