Aliasing problems

Im having a problem with a template I bought and am modifying
to suit my own needs. When Im working in flash, everything looks
sweet. No aliasing on the text or images, BUT when I export the
flash movie my main image is all aliased along with specific text
elements in the movie. I just cannot work out what the problem is.
Can anyone help please?. Im exporting with everything at 100 %
quality too.
thanks
sandy

Don't worry, it's just a screen thingummy and won't print.
If you wan't it to look better (to convince yourself), use a CMYK mixture and not just black in the background and the aliasing will disappear.
on the other hand I don´t recommend doing it for print – you'll have hellish register problems if you do.

  • Photoshop CC Text Anti-aliasing problem.

Hey guys, not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem, but today I turned on my machine and starting layout out some type and noticed that it looked alot chunkier than before. I had my anti-aliasing set to Mac LCD, which is usually spot on, but this particular text field looked terrible. I opened an old document and sure enough, I was right, the same type of anti-aliasing looked vastly different, even when both of the typfaces were exactly the same. I've had others open the file on their machines and have gotten the same problem. Now every time I create a new text field, I get chunky, terrible looking anti-aliasing, no matter what font I'm using. The only way I can get good looking type is by copying and pasting from old files. I've included an example file of what I mean. On the left is Trade Gothic, and on the right is Trajan (just to show it's not any particular font). The top versions of the fonts look beautiful clean, and anti-aliased properly. The bottom versions look chunky and blurry. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Same problem here.
This fixed it for me. Though, only temporarily:
    1. Select all layers of your PSD file.
    2. Select the type drop down > Anti-Aliasing > None
    3. Save your file
    4. Quit Photoshop
    5.  Re-open the file
    6. Select all layers of your PSD again
    7. Select the type drop down > Mac LCD (or desired aliasing)
    8. Save the file
    9. Continue working
This worked the last few times I tried but it is not a permanent solution.
    I feel your pain

  • Ps CS6 Layer Style Stroke aliasing problem

    Ps CS6 (13.0)
    OS X 10.6.8
There seems to be a problem with aliasing of Layer Style Stroke.
The attached images show the result of the three Position options for the stroke. The pixels to which the Layer Style Stroke was applied were created by stroking a path with a white 72 px hard brush onto an empty layer over white Background.
    Layer Style>Stroke>Structure>Position: Outside
Outer edge of the stroke is poorly aliased.
    Layer Style>Stroke>Structure>Position: Inside
Inner edge of the stroke is poorly aliased and has intermittent artefacts.
    Layer Style>Stroke>Structure>Position: Center
    Outer edge is poorly aliased
Inner edge is poorly aliased and has intermittent artefacts.

Just fiddlin' around with Outer Glow because it has much more control, and I found a way to make a smoothly anti-aliased "outer stroke-like" effect...  Compare the quality of the Stroke against Outer Glow here...

  • [need help] anti-aliasing problem

i create new document in AI CS4 and drag my logo.png into the new document, when i resize the logo using selection tool, it will get jagged edge (no anti-aliasing). how to fix this problem?

    asafalyrayyan,
A PNG is a raster image consisting of pixels. If you scale it up, the pixels get larger.
You may try to soften thing a bit, better done in Photoshop.
But if avaiable, you should get the original vector artwork, if any.
Otherwise, the right thing to do, especially in connexion with artwork that may be needed in full quality at any size, is to recreate it with the appropriate tools, such as the Pen Tool and maybe tools for specific shapes such as the Rectangle/Ellipse group in the Toolbox ClickHover for the different tools to fly out.

  • Mailman / Postfix aliases problem?

    Hello, all!
I've got mailman running, finally, after many hours of fighting with it. It is now to the point where it will accept new subscribers through the listinfo page, send them their confirmation, and accept a confirmation action by the user on the html page to do so. The list currently only has 2 members - the moderator and one test email account. The server is hosting many virtual domains. The list in question is in one; it is currently the only virt-domain that is using a mailman list.
    However...
Attempts to send from the moderator to the list result in the following:
    <[email protected]>: host
    /var/imap/socket/lmtp[/var/imap/socket/lmtp] said: 550-Mailbox unknown.
Either there is no mailbox associated with this 550-name or you do not have
authorization to see it. 550 5.1.1 User unknown (in reply to RCPT TO
    command)
OK, so it seems to me that Postfix is not correctly figuring out that the listname is not a hosted mailbox, but is indeed a list name, and thus never bothers to send it off to mailman. I'm guessing this means I'm missing 1 little thing or other in postfix's main.cf but I can't figure out what. Help?

Correct. My domain in question is ryla9810.org which has one alias that forwards to my gmail account (phil@), and I need one mail list with a dozen members (team@). The forward works, but the maillist is causing me grief

  • Overlay button aliasing problem

I created an overlay image in photoshop to use as a button overlay in DVD studio pro. the overlay image is a fish. The image is GREAT quality in photoshop but when I add it to my menu as an overlay in DVD SP, the lines are very jagged. I've tried a few different aspect ratios and keep getting the same results. Anyone have any ideas?
My menu is NTSC DV widescreen square pixel. My photoshop file was the same.
    thanks!

  • CS5 bug rendering anti-aliased text in 'Save for web'

Seems like there's a bit of a bug when using 'Save for web and devices' with thin weights of type in CS5 for Mac. Although thin type looks fine while working in Illustrator, as soon as you enter the 'Save for web' dialogue, it gets badly mangled. Looks like this issue has been present at least since CS4. It does not happen in Photoshop. It looks particularly bad for light text on a dark background.
Some people may say "sure, Illustrator is not really meant for intensive bitmap work". However, with features like 'pixel preview' and 'snap to pixel', Illustrator has (generally) become a very viable tool for web design, and personally I much prefer it to Photoshop. It is also clear that Adobe intends it to be usable in this manner. So the anti-aliasing render bug is definitely a problem. Just surprised they didn't address it when CS5 was born.
I put up some example images on http://www.thesheep.co.uk/2011/06/24/illustrator-save-for-web-anti-aliasing-problems/ to illustrate the problem.
Does anyone have any clever work-arounds for this? It's a bit annoying to have to move stuff over to PS before exporting, but maybe that's what I have to do. Hopefully Adobe will address this soon.

    Hi,
I am experiencing this same problem of pixelated gifs when I use the "save for web" dialog from Illustrator, but this solution has not worked for me. I have tried the trick of using type-optimized anti-aliasing, but it doesn't change the output at all. I've done this from within the "Image size" tab as well as through Effect>Rasterize>Options)Anti-aliasing: Type Optimized. My image is a logo made entirely from text, although for some of it I used "outline path", so I'm not sure if it still qualifies as text...I'm a newbie at this stuff, so the technical details are still quite opaque to me.
Does anyone know of a solution to this that does not require me to add Photoshop to my workflow?
    I'm using Illustrator in CS5, version 15.0.2.
    Thanks in advance
    Jonathan

  • Opening a Photoshop smart object file in Illustrator looks horrible (antialiasing problem)

    Hello all,
This problem is killing me and I really wish I had done this logo in Illustrator, but I didn't now I have to suffer. Help!
I am doing a freeland job for a friend so I am not all that and a bag of chips with Illustrator. I am better at Photoshop but I need the vector, so I did my logo in photoshop and created a smart object out of it. I saved a version as a tiff and one as a jpg. My friend is creating his own leaflet in Word and the logo works beautifully there. I am creating a flyer for him in Illustrator and the logo is aliased in Photoshop but when I put it in Illustrator it looks antialiased and bad. He also has a little cheapy yahoo sitebuilder website until I create a website for him and the same logo(jpg) will not open in the yahoo site for him. I work and go to school so I don't have the time to recreated the logo in illustrator. It looks really good the way it is until I put it in Illustrator. Any ideas? please?
Thanks to anyone that answers this question, and kudos for taking time out of your busy day to calm my angst( or add to it)please don't add to it...

    Hello Noel and c,
I created the logo in photoshop
( to make vector in photoshop, I need the scalability, I made the logo a smart object)
I then saved a copy as a jpg(for web) and a tif for print. I am creating a flyer in Illustrator, so I have to bring the logo into illustrator, when I do it looks like an aliasing problem. I had that aliasing problem in photoshop, but I still had text.... so I could antialias the text. In Illustrator the logo is just a tif, or jpg(I have tried both) It is not a text, but an image and it looks antialiased. In some programs the logo looks good, in some programs the logo looks bad.  The only layer I have in the good photoshop file that I saved  as a jpg, and as a tif is one layer that has text and the logo on it- this is a smart object. I have additional work files that have multiple layers, but I do not want multiple layers on my final print, web file. When I open up my laptop, I will save a screenshot.
    Thanks so much

  • ALIASING effect in final cut on motion project imported in sequence

i built a project in motion, and imported it in final cut pro sequence, and although my output setting in motion was ok (apple pro ress 4444, render best etc, ) i had a aliasing problem on still images, thats did not happen when i rendered before my clip from motion and imported it in FC, what is your experience.

Aliasing when rendering Motion projects in the FCP timeline comes from a mismatch between the Field Dominance of the timeline, the Field Dominance of the Motion project within the timeline, the Field Order setting in the Motion project, and/or the Field order of any media within the Motion project.
IOW, Click on your timeline, type ⌘0, check the Field Dominance. Click on the Motion Project in your timeline, type ⌘9, check the Field Dominance of the clip. Change it via the popup when ctrl/right clicking on the setting. Also, right/ctrl-click on your Motion project, select Open in Editor, check the Field Order within project properties of the Motion project and the Field Order for any media within the Motion project.
The best way to avoid mismatches is by "round tripping" your media you wish to send to Motion from within FCP by right/ctrl-clicking on the clip in your timeline, selecting Send To Motion, then do your work in Motion, Save, Quit, and fall back into FCP. This ensures a match between the Motion project and your timeline.
    Make sense?

  • How to make better DVD's and eliminate aliasing

After trying several different ways on how to get the best from my AVCHD camera to an SD DVD I discovered the following worked best.
    1. Import and edit as per normal
    2. Export to HD 720p (DON"T share to Dvd Studio Pro or iDVD)
    3. Open iDVD and import the HD 720p file directly from the saved folder (iDVD will convert it to mpeg 2)
    4. If using DVD Studio Pro you will need to convert the HD 720p file to Mpeg 2 using Compressor as normal.
    5. Burn dvd.
This way eliminates nearly all of the aliasing problems and overall quality looks much better than just "Sharing" directly to iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.
Give it a try and let me know if your dvd quality improves.
    Hope this helps.

First of all; your way of attacking this is creating a very specific subVI. It is a general rule that subVIs should be as reusable as possible, so they should just perform a task upon some standardized input. That's why i suggested that you use an array input (but forgot to mention why...).
I've attached a small example of how i would handle this sort of problem. See the attached VIs, the subVI only handles the task of setting visibility on or off. The array input is dynamic in size, as opposed to the cluster, so any size 1D array of control refnums can be passed to it, using the boolean input to determine visiblity setting.
Your other question; yes it is possible to reach the control references from inside a subVI by passing the "This VI" reference to the subVI. But again, you'll have to change the subVI or make a different one for each different set of visible/invisible controls for it to work. Which is why i recommended building an array of just the refnums of the controls you want to set visibility for, and pass it to the subVI.

Thanks Paul. I also archive my AVCHD original footage via the archive function in iMovie '09 (a great new feature, which iMovie '08 lacked).
I just purchased a plug-in for Quick Look which allows you to view the first frame of each AVCHD clip in the Finder - very useful for identifying the clips for importing to iMovie. It's called HD Quick Look and is produced by the same Western Australian company that produces VoltaicHD (Shedworx). The cost is about $8 AUD and the product can be found here:
    http://www.shedworx.com/hdquicklook
I'm about to import and edit a wedding video shot in AVCHD format (highest quality setting). I'm still a bit unsure whether to import at the Large or Full setting, given my earlier comments about the "bad" effects. However, as I'll be burning to standard DVDs, it probably won't matter whether I use Large or Full for import - but I'll probably try exporting at 720p, as you've suggested.
I guess my main concern in using your method is that 540 has to be upscaled to 720, hence my reluctance to import at Large. But if I use Full - and any "bad" effects - it will be knocked down to 540 anyway (according to popular wisdom)! Can't win!
It will be interesting to see whether Steve Mullen has any advice on this.

  • Pattern Problems

I am trying to make a diagonal line pattern to fill a shape. Easy, right? Well for some reason I can't get it to line up. I followed Teri Petti's instructional Pattern Helper, which was great. My thanks for those gurus who make themselves and their resources available. It looks perfect when I apply the transform to it, but the paths are cut off at the edges when I make it a swatch. Here's a screenshot that shows more detail than I can easily describe.
    http://www.aerissolutions.com/images/screenshot.jpg
    Thanks!
    C

    Crystal,
In your second two screenshots, it may just be anti-aliasing.
The way to tell the difference between anti-aliasing problems and real tile design problems is that anti-aliasing problems are never more than one pixel wide no matter what the zoom level. They even tend to look worse when zoomed way out like to 25% or less, and may disappear entirely at very high zooms such as 3200% or more. In contrast, a real problem with the tile stitching will get wider and more noticeable as you zoom in.
Once you've verified that it isn't just an anti-aliasing artifact, the best way to trouble-shoot a pattern that isn't working is to drag out a copy of the definition from the Swatches palette. First use the Layers palette to verify that the unpainted rectangle you meant to be the boundary tile is at the very back of the definition. (If it isn't, then either your unpainted rectangle was not at the back, or it was not selected, or it was not a true rectangle.)
Then, assuming the tile rectangle is in the correct place, select the tile rectangle with the white-arrow-plus tool (so that you get the entire thing), copy it, then select the whole definition group and Paste in Front. Select the definition together with your extra copy of the tile rectangle, and do a Make Clipping Mask. (This simulates what happens with pattern fills: they implicitly get clipped to the tile boundary.)
Now select the whole clipping group by mousing down on the top left corner of the tile rectangle, and alt-drag a copy, snapping to the top right corner of the tile rectangle, so that you have two copies side by side. Then do the same thing moving down, so that you have two copies top to bottom. Flip back and forth between outline view and preview view, looking for places where the objects don't match up at the edges.
With diagonal lines it can be tricky getting the width and height both to be correct, although 45° isn't hard. Also, whenever you have slanted lines with strokes on them, you don't want the endpoints of the lines to be exactly on the tile boundary, or you get the business I referred to earlier, where there is a gap when the stroke doesn't extend all the way to the edge.
I'll try to put together some screen shots showing the above phenomenon.

  • GTX 670 fps drops problem

    Hi,
I have problem with my new graphic card and don't know if it is driver issue or if it is defective graphic card or some other component is bottleneck ? Can you please help me?
    My PC
CPU: AMD Phenom II 1090T 3,2 GHz (is bottleneck?)
MB: ASUS M4N68T updated BIOS few days
GPU: MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC installed 301.42 WHQL drivers and also tried older drivers from CD
PSU: Corsair TX650-V2 (is it enough? )
    Case: Coolermaster CM690 Dominator II
    RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 2x2GB +2x4GB
Monitor: LG W2242SM connected by VGA adapter (playing on 1680x1050)
    My problem is:
In games like battlefield 2, Crysis 2, ArmaII, Alice Madness Returns, Dragon age, Skyrim my fps drops very often.
For example in Battlefield 3 (Gulf of Oman) I start game with 80fps (setting: ULTRA 1680x1050) and after 2 minutes fps drop to about 30-20 or even 17 fps. I first thought it was only big scene with many details but when i stayed in same place about 1 minute it returned to 75fps but scene was still same.
    I tried:
    - Change details to High - even worse , Medium and Low - still remain,
    - Turn off- blur, v-sync - problem still remains
    - turn off anti aliasing - Problem remains
    - in nvidia control panel turn v-sync off and power management set to maximum performence, in windows too
    - re install drivers - clean installation ( i try all drivers available from MSI site and Nvidia too
    - Re install windows (windows 7 professional 64-bit)
    - uninstall MSI afterburner, than install newer one.
I took screenshot from MSI afterburner where you can see huge GPU usage drop in game.
    Thank you for any help

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone had a solution for this? I am having the exact same problem.

Is it a driver fault? should I wait for updates, or has anyone a solution? Help would be much appreciated!

  • Preview file rendering halfs the resolution

    Hi,
I have a problem with Premiere Pro preview files: their horizontal resolution is only half of the set resolution. This is seen in the Program window both when playing back and stopped (playback resolution and paused resolution are both Full). If the clip hasn't been rendered for preview, the resolution is full. Just when rendering the preview, the horizontal resolution gets half. I'm using Apple ProRes as te preview codec (I do not want to use MPEG for its bad quality). Why is this happening? I need to have the full resolution for playback with ProRes codec, but how can I get the full resolution? Please, help!
My Sequence Settings are (for instance):
    Settings
    Editing Mode: Custom
    Timebase: 25.00 frames/second
    Video
    Frame Size: 1920 x 1080 16:9
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
    Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)
    Display Format: 25fps Timecode
    Audio
    Sample Rate 48000 Hz
    Display Format: Audio Samples
    Video Previews
Preview File Format: QuickTime (Desktop) / (GammaCorrection: Automatic)
    Codec: Apple ProRes 422
    Width: 1920
    Height: 1080
Maximum Bit Depth (not checked)  Maximum Render Quality (not checked)

It looks to me like an "aliasing" problem.  I am suggesting you search ( google, speak to other users using the same workflow you are, etc. ) about " aliasing " problems with your display of rendered pro res 422 files.  If you focus on 'aliasing' issue, instead of calling it half resolution and so on, it probably will address your problem faster because people with that problem will know what you mean.
I posted this earlier and gives a hint what I am referring to.
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/1007725
I am wondering if in the render of the source ( pro res 422 render ) you are losing that color information indicated by the " 2 ".  As you dont experience problem using animation and pro res 444, that is my guess.. that you are losing the color info...hence the problem of aliasing.
What blows my mind though , is that you don't see the aliasing when you go to AE with the same rendered file.  That is just downright weird.
I don't know if you want to actually solve the problem ( find out why this is happening really )... or if you are just fixated on blaming the software for something you want to work differently.  I think solving the problem may involve doing some more steps on your part.  For example, have you taken the rendered file ( or ftp to someone etc ) to another computer like yours... to see if they also see the same thing ?
If they don't see the same thing, if it is OK on their computer, then maybe it's your graphic card or graphic card 'settings' causing the problem.
Have you spoken to anyone at an apple store about this ? They may have heard of this problem from other users... and if you have a store nearby, you can take the rendered file there and see if it looks OK on their computer.
I do wish you luck finding out whats going on, and am personally interested in what you find out ( which is why I keep looking at this thread ). I know lots of people who use pro res and also use it on motion picture 'sets' while shooting... at the DIT station or at video playback, to look at basic playbacks ( usually with some basic color correction etc , like rec709 or whatever )...So what you want to do is actually being done, but I just moved to MN from nyc and dont work in movie biz anymore and dont want to get involved with hooking you up via ftp to some local 600 people.
First step I think is for you to keep an open mind and start dealing with the aliasing issue and try to see if others see the same thing on similar machine as yours.
Or else think of some other way to solve the problem... cause nobody else I know has ever seen this or I would have heard of it I think.
Also, this is a users forum, not adobe technical support... have you called them ?  So please be patient with users here trying to help you, as we are just people who try to help when we can and don't work for adobe.
Thanks and good luck, and please let us know what you find out cause this problem is very weird.

  • Xorg.conf jagged fonts

I am running an nvidia graphics card with twinview to support dual monitors.  I used "nvidia --config" to get my xorg.conf file and then manually created 10-monitor.  If fonts in the xorg sever are rendered jaggedly, is that likely to be a xorg.conf problem, or a fonts.conf problem?
    Thanks in advance!

On close inspection, it looks like all of the above.
