Alien Skin Plug in acting funny

I've been using CS4, and have happily used Alien Skin plugins with out any hiccups.  But recently the Alien Skin actions have been causing me grief.  When I open a photo, edit how I want, use the Alien Skin action, save, no problem.  But when I try to use Alien Skin a second time, on the same photo or a new photo, CS4 shuts down.  I then have to boot up CS4 all over again every time I want to use Alien Skin more than once.  Anyone know why this is the case?  Please help.

As far as I know Alien Skin makes a whole BUNCH of plug-ins.  And plug-ins are not the same as actions.
Perhaps you might want to be just a little more specific; maybe someone with the same plug-in you have will be better able to answer then.

  • CS4 shutdown after Alien Skin use

I've been using CS4 on my macbook pro, I have Alien Skin plug ins that I use quite a bit.  Recently, after using the Alien Skin actions, CS4 shuts down if I try to use them a second time.  So, I open a photo, use the Alien Skin, continue to edit, but if I decide to use Alien Skin again, it shuts down CS4.  Anyone know why this is the case?  It didn't do this previously, just started in the last couple of days.

Have you tried recreating the Photoshop preferences? (Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift on Win or Command+Option+Shift on Mac during startup of Photoshop).
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Alien Skin.

  • Alien Skin Splat LE and Eyecandy 4000 LE

    Hi
I am looking to buy Fireworks and need to know if Fireworks
includes these filters. They are not in Fireworks 4 (which I have)
and I am not going to spend 2,000 dollars on something that doesn't
    have what I want.
    Thanks

As Linda pointed out, these plug-ins are made by Alien Skin
    Software
    <
    http://www.alienskin.com>.
Splat has been discontinued and Eye Candy
4000 has been replaced by the updated Eye Candy: Textures,
    Eye Candy:
Nature and Eye Candy: Impact. So it comes down to the
    plug-ins you
    wanting included being obsolete.
Alien Skin plug-ins are, IMHO, the best third party plug-ins
    you can get
though so you'd serve yourself well by investing in them if
    you're a
fan. The Eye Candy Effects Collection
    <
    http://www.alienskin.com/ec-effects-collection.aspx>
    is a great way to
get the three Eye Candy packs as well as Xenofex 2 and Snap
    Art for a
significantly reduced price. Highly recommended, especially
    when you
consider that they'll work in a number of graphics apps. Hope
    that helps...

  • Alien Skin Live Effects

    Hi,
In my business I make heavy use of Alien Skin plug-ins.
Problem is, live effects don't work anymore. The filters from the
top pull-down menu works, but that's not a live effect.
Suddenly, making revisions to customer demands will be very
hard. Alien Skin claims this is a bug in CS3, and they can't fix
it. Is anyone aware of this, and is it being worked on?
This is really important to me, and I just have to imagine
it's important to a whole host of other people too.
    Any information is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dugan M.

Do you have the full version, or the stripped down version
    which used
to install in FW 8 and earlier?

  • How to organize 6 Alien Skin plugin menu to 1 menu Alien Skin?

How to organize 6 Alien Skin plugin menu to 1 menu Alien Skin?

Users can not change the location of the filters in the Photoshop Filter menu. This is something only our programmers can do when we make new versions of the plug-in. We are steadily moving all of our new plug-ins into the Filter -> Alien Skin submenu. Currently Snap Art 3 and Exposure 4 are in this submenu and Eye Candy 7 will be in there soon.

  • What happened to Alien Skin Splat in CS3?

Hi all. I searched the forum and could not find a similar
topic... so I apologize if this has already been answered
    elsewhere.
In previous versions of Fireworks I enjoyed the ease of
adding edge effects (such as pixilated or torn edges), but the new
CS3 does not seem to have the Alien Skin Splat filter built into
    it.
Can anyone tell me how I can get that (or another similar
filter) for CS3? Or if not, can anyone direct me as to how to
implement a torn edge effect without the ease of the filter?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You're right, I don't know why? But if you still have any of
    the previous
versions... In FWs 8 I found it in the Plug-Ins folder you
    can copy Splat
LE-eng.8bf and Splat LE Core.dll into your Plug-Ins folder in
    FWs CS3 and it
    should work.

  • Alien Skin Eye Candy 7 incompatible with Fireworks - when will this be fixed?

Alien Skin Eye Candy 6 worked fine with my Fireworks CS4. Then Alien Skin updated me to Eye Candy 7. While Eye Candy pops up and looks beautiful, even showcasing the effects within the screen, once I hit "OK", it crashes. I already complained to Alien Skin but they  say it is an Adobe issues. I uninstalled Eye Candy and reinstalled it as 32-bit only in the 32-bit version of Photoshop CS4, and again it works fine in Photoshop and looks great in Fireworks, once I hit "OK" it crashes again. My boss is now pissed because basically the effects are not usable except in Photoshop, and we use primarily Fireworks. What will be done about this? The Alien Skin site says this: "I completely understand your disappointment with the lack of Fireworks support. Due to the multiple changes made by Adobe, it has become prohibitively difficult to maintain Fireworks compatibility. For this reason we had to drop support for this program." There are many people complaining about this but what is the solution? I cannot randomly start using Photoshop esp when most of my files are in PNG format, and right now it is just wasted money and extremely frustrating.

When I responded to your initial forum post on the Adobe forums, I was not 100% accurate. Eye Candy 7 does support the 32-bit Carbon API. Fireworks and Elements are both Carbon apps. However plug-in support for Fireworks is not near as good as the plug-in support for Elements. The plug-in API in Fireworks needs to be updated and improved before Fireworks will work with Eye Candy 7.
I completely understand your frustration, and if you would like a refund, I would be more than happy to process it for you. Just email me at [email protected] There, I can process your request. Again, I apologize for the trouble, and wish there was more we could do to resolve this issue for you.
In regards to Eye Candy 6, If you submit a support ticket as mentioned above,  and I will do everything I can to get you up and running in Fireworks with Eye Candy 6.

  • Why does a Flash movie whose frames were just cut & pasted on a new frame act funny when tested?

Why is that whenever I cut a frame, clear the frames in a timeline, paste it in new frame then test the clip, the whole thing starts to act funny?
I just don't understand why that happens - it's supposed to run smoothly though it's on a new frame, right? Is there a way to maintain the movie clip when tested though some frames were cut then pasted on a new frame?

I should've posted up screenshots of my project in the message but I thought the site wouldn't allow to post external links.
Anyway, when the frames are "as is", the file runs normally when tested...

But when I cut the frames in question, clear the frames, then paste them onto a new frame...
    http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq19/tsujzpie/cutremovepaste.jpg
...the movie now acts weird. I just don't understand why - it shouldn't do that, right?

By the way, I used Flash Macromedia 8 for this - is that an issue related to this problem?

  • GNOME 3 acting funny when using RAM heavily

    Hi,
I've been noticing that when I open many tabs in Chromium (and thus, being a very memory intensive app, it puts a lot of load into the RAM) GNOME 3 starts acting funny. Letters from labels disappear, such as the top bar menues are gone. The overall UI seems to work fine, except rounded corners and basically any letter in the Shell interface (Metacity labels and inner window content work fine).
This is a freshly installed system. 16 GB of swap and around 8 GB of RAM, so plenty of room for Chromium to have hundreds of tabs anyways. My graphics card is a 8800 GTS, with less than 256 MB (which could also be the issue).
But seriously, this is why I hate GNOME Shell so much. It looks alpha state! These kinds of bugs should not happen in a production environment
What can I do to help me troubleshoot the source? Any quick and dirty hacks?
I'll probably end up switching GNOME with Xfce if this keeps up like this

Pse wrote:How much free RAM is available when this starts happening? 8GB is a lot of RAM to fill with tabs. And even then, you have swap, so you shouldn't miss anything. This looks like some sort of bug. Are you sure this is Gnome's fault? It may be triggering a bug somewhere else.
I'm pretty sure it's Gnome's fault, however, I'm unable to replicate this.
I know it's Gnome's fault because, although not corrupting the labels again, the system feels somehow slower from time to time, in a direct relationship to how many Chromium tabs there are open (which was what caused the bug in the beginning) or otherwise, how many different app windows (so it's not just Chromium, but the whole system).
Could my system become slower when the RAM is 85% full than when it is only 25% full? Does that even make sense? Assuming swap is not being used (I have set it up so that it's only being used when RAM is 90% full or more).

  • "signatures" in Mail acting funny...

In Mail... since my last update, the "signatures" have been acting funny... The default comes up, but when I change the signature, the default stays there too!

    Hello abachelorgirl,
It sounds like you would like to set a default signature for one of your email accounts.  You will want to verify a few things in the Signatures Preferences.
In the left colum, you will want to make sure the email address in question is highlighted.  The middle column should then list the name or label for that signature, and the right column is where you can edit the signature.  I also recommend making sure the signature label is selected in the Choose Signature field when you have your email address highlighted in the left column.
You can also drag the signatures in the middle column to the email address in the left column if you need to move the signature to a different account.
You can find more information here:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Strokes are acting funny. Way too thin for the point size.

I'm on 5.5 and all of a sudden, when I apply a stroke to a photo frame, I'm not getting the width that the settings say.
For example, I place a picture on the page, I scale it, say 50%, then put a stroke on it. I barely can see it. I can put a 44 pt. stroke on it, and it looks like it's about 7 pts wide. I tried assigning it to the inside, outside, middle, same thing.
It's also doing that with the rounded corner trick. Click the yellow box, and start sliding a corner piont, and it's barely visible. I can assign a .5" rounded corner to the frame, and I can barely see the roundness.
It's crazy, and completely grinding my work to a halt.
    Any ideas?

just normal, has no bearing on document size.
If I just draw a box with the box tool, strokes are normal.
It's only when I place a photo and reduce it in size do the strokes act funny.
It clearly has something to do with reducing the images.
I see there is a preference for  scaling objects, and I tried both settings.
But the strokes act funny either way.

  • Screen Sharing started acting funny with both iChat and Back-to-my-Mac

For some reason my Screen Sharing, whether via iChat or BTMM, started acting funny: I still connect, but now my cursor shows up about 1" to the right of where it's actually pointing (i.e., if I position the cursor on one icon on the large size Dock, and click, it will start the icon to its left); and when I move the cursor, sometimes it appears followed by a trailing stream of cursors; finally, if I can manage to move a window on the screen, it looks like only half or so of the window moves, and the rest of the window stays put.
Anybody else experiencing this problem? Thanks in advance.

Ralph, you are awesome! Someone on the Remote Mac had done a <ctr>l plus <alt> plus "+" and zoomed up the screen once or twice. When I turned Zoom off in System Preferences Universal Access, things went back to being ok.
Thanks so much for the advice. I live in Texas and the remote iMac (with my octogenarian parents) is in Iowam so you saved me!

  • LightRoom 2 and Edit In Alien Skin Edited Image???

I have lightroon2 and I have added some edit progrms from Alien Skin ie Bohek2 The edit goes well and it gets saved but I have now idea wher it (finished edit) goes too. After the edit is saved the old image that I started with is all that comes up- I even tried the edit copy- still couldn't find the image. The Alien Skin CS rep did a hands on remote control and he couldn't find where the edited image went- any ideas?
    Patbaswb

I haven't used Alien Skin, but standard Edit-In behavior would be for the edited photo to be added to the same folder as the original.
