    Hi,
I have a HP HSC 950 All-In-One printer that always returns to the display message "press enter to align print cartridges", even after a complete print alignment is performed and looks fine.   I can't get past this to print anything.   I've wasted a lot of ink and time trying to get past this message.  Can anyone help?
I encouter this error when the printer is plugged into a notebook running Windows XP or when it is connected to a router that accepts print jobs from i-mac computer running OS 10.4.   The link below should get you to the HP page featuring the product I am writing about.

The solution was to replace the color cartridge, as suggested in a previous post by Bob Headrick.  Thanks, Bob!

The message you are seeing is a result of the alignment not completing.  Load fresh plain white paper then press enter to print an alignment page.  THe alignment will not succeed if the color cartrdige is empty.  Steps to troubleshoot alignment failures are available here.

  • Photosmart c4599 is stuck on align cartridge

My Photosmart C4599 is stuck on align cartridges.  I've turned it off and unplugged it from the computer and the outlet several times (as the HP print doctor has recommended this).  I can't get the display window to move from the screen telling me to load plain paper then hit OK.  Nothing on the printer works, including the cancel button and the off button. Is there some way to manually reset the device, other than simply unplugging it?  My scanner doesn't work at this point, but the printer does continue to print.

    Hi DJFH,
I see that the printer is stuck on the screen for aligning cartridges. I can help you.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

  • Can't get past align cartridges

Several times when I try to start a print job, the press enter align cartridges message comes on. I do that but it stays on. I cannot print.

    Hey @sandy91,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand you're getting a recurring prompt to align the cartridges on your HP PSC 2175 All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this.  I have some suggestions that may help you get past this prompt.
The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues and quality issues.
I recommend you perform a 'hard reset':
    1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
    3. Wait 60 seconds.
    4. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
    5. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
Next, if the issue persists, I recommend you remove and re-insert all ink cartridges.  The printer will prompt you to scan the alignment page as before - do so accordingly.  If the issue continues after this I do advise that you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • Printing blank pages and cannot align cartridges

    I have an HP OfficeJet J4680 All-In-One
The printer is not used often and is at a seasonal home
In the winter I thought I needed new ink cartridges so I bought new ones.  The printer did not really produce a readable finished product.
I am now trying to get it to work with 2 new cartridges and getting more and more frustrated.
I was able to run a TEST page; the colors were not as bright or bold  as they should be
I was able to send a page to print but I cannot copy or scan from the glass bed of the printer therefore not able to align cartridges.

    Hi Angie517,
I would like to help you with the poor print quality you are experiencing. Please use the following document to troubleshoot the issue. This will guide you through the necessary steps; Printed Colors Are Not the Colors Expected.
If the issue persists, I recommend calling HP and letting the know the issue as well as the steps you have already completed. It may be helpful to even let them know you completed all of the steps in HP document #c01481811.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Although the printer may be out of warranty, HP can discuss what options are available, they may even be able to offer you a discount on a newer model.
    I hope this helps.

  • Printer won't align cartridges

I just want to align the black cartdrige because I only replace that one. I don't need color. The printer can't scan the alignment sheet without the color portion on it. How do I eliminate the pop up asking for an alignment before every print job?

Did you try only installing the black cartridge?  The printer may have a single cartridge mode

  • Won't align cartridge

replace black ink cartage. have to align cartages. print scan page. don't detect scan page.
every time that I try to align it prints a new page. I have wastes half of a new cartage just trying to align this **bleep**ing thing
I want to disable the pop up on my computer that say printer not  aligned... I don't give a **bleep** about it being aligned.
This will be the last **bleep**ing HP printer I ever buy..

Will be sending Hp all the scan pages that I HAD to print.

    Hi toddh39,
I would first try cleaning the cartridge contacts in case there's some debris there.

  • Aligning Cartridges

Just purchased the HP Photosmart 6510, trying to align the cartridges but it stop prior with this message "You may continue but Cartridges are not calibrated for best print quality.  Touch OK to continue."  All the photos that I print have lines ever few centimeters horizontally.  It provides me no options for troubleshooting, reviewed this website and downloaded the hardward wizard.  Nothing is working, very frustrating.  About ready to return it to Best Buy and purchase something different!

You can run the alignment/calibration from the printer control panel like this:
From the home screen, touch the Setup icon ( ), and then touch Tools .
Touch the Down Arrow ( ), and then touch Align Printer . The alignment page prints.

  • Printer is aligning cartridges every five minutes!!!

Help - I have HP309g printer and it's decided to start aligning the printer cartridges every five minutes!  I let it run through one cycle in the hope that would cure it, but it just indicated 'printer alignment failed' and tried to do it again on the next document.   I'm in the middle of a rush job and haven't the time for this - does anyone know how to cure this at least until I get through the stack of very expensive cartridges I 've just bought for this machine - at which point I'm taking it for a trip to the recycling centre!

I purchased a HP photosmart Premium, C310a in Dec.2010. The Black cartridge went empty and I purchased a HP564XL.  The Alignment check Failed. This test will not pass. I have followed the procedure over and over.  No good.  Help!

  • Hp6110 keeps telling me to align cartridges

My HP 6110 all in one printer keeps telling me to press enter to align cartidges, and when I do this it just repeats the message

    Hi @ruth2,
I understand your 6110 continuously prompts you to align the cartridges, and when you press OK it loops back to the message.
Let's perform a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable for 1 minute. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the printer for 10-15 seconds to release any built up power, then after the minute has passed, plug the printer back in.
Also, do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector

  • Deskjet 710c - Cannot align cartridges

    Hi,
I have replaced the color cartridge on my printer but cannot make a cartrige alignment. When I try to make a alignment Explorer crashes.
Note that: I run Windows 7 (64); the printer can print any document; I can print a Test Page; I use a USB/Parrallel adapter; I installed the 64 bits Windows 7 patch.
What can I do to align the cartridges?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi @YBeaupre,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Deskjet 710c cannot align your cartridges, and I am happy to help!
After some searching, according to this guide, I Cannot Access HP Toolbox After Installing a Windows 7 in-OS Driver, there is no workaround for aligning the cartridges from the computer.
However, I would recommend to try removing both cartridges and re-inserting them. Otherwise if you have an XP computer you could install the drivers on it and align the cartridges that way.
Hope this information is useful, and have a wonderful day!

  • HP6110 Align cartridges problem "paper too narrow" message

I have put in a new colour cartridge and on pressing Enter to align the cartridges it looks like it is going to do it then it just pushes the paper through without doing anything and I get the message "paper too narrow load wider paper"!!  It the same A4 paper I always use.  I have removed all the paper, moved the paper keepers backward and forward and reloaded the paper. I have tried turning off, removing the power at both ends and waiting a few minutes and then switching back on.  Same result. Also the print cartridges wont come back out when I lift the top so I can't take them out and replace them either. Can anyone help?

my hp photosmart c4180 is out of alignment, how do I fix?

  • Aligning cartridge message never stops

I've had this printer for over two years with no problems. I changed the color ink printer cartridge today and the message "Aligning printer cartridge" runs forever and never finishes. If I cancel the alignment, the process starts again. I've replaced the color ink cartridge again. I've turned it on and off. I've taken the cartridges out and turned it on and off. I've restarted my computer. Thanks for any help!

The alignment page has blocks of black and cyan that are used to align the cartridges.  Are both printing properly?  If either the black or cyan are not printing properly the alignment will fail.
The document here may help resolve the alignment failure.
If the above does not resolve the issue and both black and cyan are printing properly the issue may be because the sensor has become clogged.  In this case you may be able to resolve the issue by cleaning the underside of the sensor with a damp Q-tip.  The sensor is located on the carriage that holds the cartridges, it is below and to the right of the black cartridge toward the back of the carriage.  You could access this as follows:  turn on the printer and open the lid as if you were going to change a cartridge.  Next pull the power cord out without closing the lid or turning off the printer.  You can now gently move the cartridge to the left an inch or so, the alignment sensor will not be accessible.  Gently clean the underside with a damp Q-tip.  Avoid getting the Q-tip into the ink in the service station below the sensor.  After cleaning the sensor move the carriage back to its original place, then plug the printer back in, close the lid and turn it on.

  • THERE IS NO SCAN BUTTON ON MY F4210 PRINTER TO ALIGN CARTRIDGES?

all the hp help video's shown have scan & cartrigde lights & buttons?
the resume button does blink after placing the alignement page on the platton once pressed but the pc screen reports a failure to align?

    Hey @tonybones
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to ask that question on the HP Forums today!
I understand you were trying to follow the video showing you how to do the printer alignment and you noticed the printer you have was not the same as the printer hp.com was showing. You say the one online has a scan button, and you do not.
I have looked into this and the model you have told me that you have does in fact have a scan button and many other buttons to go with it. I believe that you have a different model that the F4210 and you simply need to figure out what model that is and let me know.
I look forward to being able to deal with this issue with you. Have a great day!

  • OfficeJet R60 cartridges won't stay aligned

    Hi,
I've had my OfficeJet R60 since 2000 and never had any problems with it, however lately (within the past month or so), the print cartridges keep going out of alignment. I run the Align Cartridges function, and make the best selections I can (sometimes none of the options are aligned well), and sometimes have to 'align' it several times in order for the alignment sheet to look satisfactory. After that, I get maybe one or two good prints and then it's back out of alignment again. I've tried removing and replacing the ink cartridges, cleaning the cartridges, resetting the factory defaults, but nothing seems to solve the problem. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help!
(Don't think it's relevant, but I use Windows XP SP2, the printer is connected via parallel port, and it's on a very sturdy/level surface.)

I have the exact same problem, allmost got used to it but still annoyng. Let me ask you a question...one or all of your cartridge chips are showing that the cartridge is empty(the "?" sign), am I right?. Because from what I gathered with my 8500a plus this seems to be the source of this problem. My printer is quite new so I didnt got to change any cartridge yet and one of my cartridge chips shows "?", and then my printer started to have this problem. First it froze when it jumped out of sleep(could not print anything utill you open/close cartridge/printhead door), then after firmware update they repaired the freeze problem but it still jumps out of sleep mode for no reason.
So am I right that one of your cartridges shows empty-"?" ?
