Align/Distribute masks?

Brain isn't functioning this morning. Is it possible to use the align palette with multiple masks on the same layer?
Trying to center a couple circle masks...

No. Try copying the path, pasting in Illustrator, then align, then past back into AE.
The other option is to use shape layers. You can numerically align them or make each shape a separate layer and align them with the alignment tools.
You could also put each mask on a separate layer, align the layers, then copy and paste the masks back to a single layer.

  • Batch Action to Distribute Layers Evenly (without align/distribute tool)

Hi everyone, I'm having trouble distributing layers in photoshop. I have try many way to batch the process via action script but failed doing it the way I needed it. Please let me know if you have any idea. Here's what I need to do.
I have 360 PNGs (like the one on the left below) and trying to put them into one PSD files with transparency. The problem is I need to have the layers spaced evenly with precise pixel in between AND all images layout in the correct sequence (so each will be 1 rotation degree off).
So I went into Bridge, select all 360 PNG and combined them into one photoshop file. But then all images landed on top of each other, then I tried the align/distribute tool but they messed up the sequence and I have no way to control pixel spacing. I have many sets of these needed to be done and I'm in pain trying to get this working. Please help and thanks in advance!

Sorry for double post, I was seriously under pressure. Let's take it over there - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798314?tstart=0

  • Auto align & distribute objects in a grid?

i love the align & distribute 'tools' i use them all the time.
but it has always appeared thay they are only good for a single row of objects.
is this correct or is it possible to select a 'grid' of objects and have them evenly aligned & distributed?

    Yup it's here Christoph..

  • Better alignment tool or a new live effect align/distribute

Alignment is unchanged since the old days of AI. We need a smarter way to align objects or distribute objects.
    IDEA
SMART ALIGN=auto align feature in AI
    Old way:
if you want to center an object (text box) to a previously selected area (between two objects) we make a RECTANLGLE as a reference and we align horizontal centers.
    This is tedious.
If the text box gets bigger or smaller you need to correct the size of the rectangle.
    And again and again…
THE TEXT BOX NEEDS TO REALIGNS TO THE PREVIOUSLY SELECTED OBJECT. a checkbox should be given as an option for auto alignment.

I repaired permissions using my computer disk utility AND from my install DVD. Still not working! I also did a PRAM, that I read about on the internet...

  • (CS5) Aligning, distributing envelope mesh points

Is it possible to align and distribute envelope mesh points? The alignment panel doesn't seem to react when selecting anchor points in an envelope mesh. Hypothetically, this could be solved by manually entering coordinates for mesh points - however, any coordinate value changes affect the entire object rather than the individual points. So... how do you edit an envelope mesh with precision?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

True in CS4 as well. I have resorted to guides and smart guides for precision placement but like you, would much prefer that mesh points were responsive to the align panel as path points are. Not sure why they're not. But then again, I'm not an engineer.

  • How can I align mask with object in Y axis?

    Hi
Can anybody help me? I want to put small band on the upper arm of man in the scene, he is walking from right to left, I put my image in upper layer and made rectangle band and animated it with his arm but the problem is that I cant align the band with arm in Y axis, because of that there are some small tremors in the band, how can I define exact point on the arm and align my mask with it?
    Appreciate any help in advance

^ Yep, Mylenium is right. There are two ways to do things - the easy way and the hard way. The easy way always involves thinking things through and establishing what you want before you shoot. Can you shoot with the band in place? If not, can you add tracking markers to the arm to facilitate adding the band later?
The hard way occurs when you have no choice and the work has to be done after the shoot. And Mylenium is dead right - before computers, EVERYTHING was done by hand, manually checking frame by frame until animations were correct. If your footage does not have the adequate preparation or detail for a computer to track, and you're unable to reshoot, the only option is to animate manually, check, fix, re-check, fix etc.
The Motion Tracking Workflow section of the manual is an excellent introduction:

  • Align and Distribute Objects Evenly around a Circular Path

How do I align objects and distribute evenly on a circular path? Especially if the objects are straight lines and I want them to be placed vertically and evenly around a circle. For example, the hash marks on a speedometer are vertical lines, but distributed evenly in a circular shape. I've gone throught the align/distribute video, but doesn't explain circular paths. I have Adobe CS3 for Windows XP.

I've done this many times and there's a simple trick to it as long as you want an even number of tick marks. Make the line, duplicate it, move one of the lines below the other, and align them horizontally. Group the lines and bring up the Transform dialog. Click on Preview so you can see what you're doing. Enter the number of copies you want and then the angle to rotate the copies. You should see a perfectly arranged circle of lines. Expand Appearance to work with the lines further.
Example: to make the tick marks for a clock face, make the first pair of lines, group them, make 5 copies, and rotate 30 degrees.

  • Distributing keyframes in frame by frame animation

I am doing a frame by frame animation of something I brought
in from Illustrator. I have 20 keyframes, each with one (slightly
different) symbol. I need this to move accross the screen.
How does one do it, I must be missing something, this must
come up all the time in frame by frame animation? I need the
symbols to be distribited exactly same distance apart.
I tried using the "align/distribute" feature the same way I
know it from illustrator, and it is just kind of working. I check
"edit all frames" make sure all the keyframes are selected and then
go to the align panel and distribute the centers of all symbols.
What goes wrong is this: it distributes them, but out of
order. Instead of putting frame 2 couple pixels to the right from
frame 1, it puts it right at the end where I would like the frame
#20. the middle then seems in the right order but beginning and end
    are always mixed up.
Is the distribute feature the best way of doing this , and
why am I having this problem?

I think you need to go into a bit more detail here. Try to describe exactly what you want to do, and what kind of footage we are talking about here. I really have no clue what you are trying to do with the current description.
Are you trying to do stop motion animation? Make a cup move across a table or something like that? Then get iStopMotion.

  • Alignment issues... CS4

Sorry if this has been answered but haven't been able to find it...
    How do i align:
    1. The left edge of one object with the right edge of another
    2. How do i align the top edge of one object with the bottom edge of another
    3. How do i align the centre of one object with the edge of another... horizontal and vertical
Yes, one way is to draw guides and align to the guides. Is there any way to do it directly with the objects without drawing guides?
    Cheers,
    shunithd
PS: I think this can be done in CorelDraw and / or Freehand... not sure though...

    Shunith,
    1 & 2: Align>Distribute Spacing (Show Options), setting the distance, Auto = 0.
3: I believe you will still have to Align centre/centre or edge/edge and move either by half the width/height.

  • IMAQ setoffset not updating actual position of masked areas

I noticed that IMAQ SetOffset works well for the masking operation (e.g. translationally aligning a mask to an image where the areas to be masked may be some pixels out of place due to incomplete positioning during image aquisition), however the position of the areas that are not masked (pixels >0) are not moved at all, as can be observed in the attached example.
The bounding rectangles of the non-masked areas have to be transformed in addition to performing IMAQ SetOffset otherwise using the particle information of the image mask might not yield the expected results as they d not seem to be altered according to the offset.
Is this behaviour by design or is it unintended?

    Hi jSturm,
to clarify the reason for my initial post here:
It's not so much not being able to cope with the function. I just noticed the fact, that the mask doesn't seem to be actually offsetted but that there is rather additional information stored with the image that says, when using the image, to offset the pixel information according to the given offset (incidently with respect to a coordinate system, not in relation to another image - as there is no other image information that can be passed into the IMAQ SetOffset function). That might be a reasonable explanation for the offset working perfectly as expected while using the image as a mask but the particle information of the offsetted image only yielding the original position values, as if the image had never been offsetted.
To me, this seems a bit of a twofold behaviour which is not directly comprehensible. Therefore I wanted to ask whether there is a particular reason for having the function behave as it does. Of course there may be well-reasoned wisdom behind it. So I thought someone could enlighten me.

  • Illustrator CS4 selecting masked content

Congratulations to the Abobe Illustrator team for reinventing the wheel and breaking it.  I'm a 12 year veteran of Adobe Illustrator and a professional vector illustrator. Is it me or is it now more difficult if not impossible to select an deselect objects. Certaily not if they are masked.  Here we have th most findamental task being attempted by the most advanced user and I'm completely helpless.
WHY WHY WHY!  It wasn't broken. You just pulled the rug out from under your professional users to accomodate complaints by newbs.  A total regression.  I'm furious beyond words.

I would argue that these were not issues for power users, and the changes is workflow this introduced create a whole new set of problems.
alignment options now work correctly with clipping masks...
Was this that big of an issue? I just didn't use alignment with masked objects.  It was intuitive enough that it would not work since masked object when selected highlighted the elements outside of the mask.  I'd simply turn on snap to point and leverage guides.  Easy.
    you can no
longer mistakenly select a masked object by inadvertently clicking
    outside the mask itself...
I'd simply press Command 2 to lock an object or a group of objects if they were in the way.  It's a skill new users will still need if they intent to  drill through to object obscured behind others.
preview mode selections are much cleaner and
    easier to see.
I don't know what "preview mode" is.  If you mean the Command Y keyline view I still see the masked vectors.   If you mean the standard view with edges highlighted then I would agree that there are fewer edges to obscrure the design.  But who really critiques their designs with edges on? Command H's and they're gone.
Plus these changes just introduce a whole new set of issues.
For example, my file has a bitmap masked inside a shape that is masksed inside another shape.  What a headache it is to select the bitmap now.  I have to 1.) leave the design environment to drill into "isolation" to make a positioning change. 2.) Come back into the design environment to see how it looks. 3.) return to isolation to tweak it and so on.  Before I could select the elements, hide edges and edit in the design environment.  Much easier, much more intuitive.
I would also argue the program is far less intuitive because it's less of a WYIWYG interface with hidden edges.  You will have to make a concerted effort when looking over someone else files to drill down and understand whats a masked object and what an embedded graphic becuase they will look teh same.  It actually remind me of the way Flash used to allow code burried on objects rather than easily findable on the timeline.  Adobe eventually eliminated this feature because it was a workflow disaster when user picked up other people's files.
So we will have to agree to disagree, but it seems to me these fundamental changes are a nusance to veterans and will ultimately prove unintuitive and confusing to new users as well.  I will simply have to deal with it since I needed a new licence for the studio and thought it would be more economical to buy the latest instead of staying cs3.  But in a way I regret the upgrade and would discourage any other advanced user from upgrading unless they can affort hours of frustration.
    Thanks for listening.

  • Distribute spacing of text objects that are in a group doesn't work

    Here's the scenario:
create a set of discreet text objects, say for a nav bar on a web site
    put these in a group
    open the align objects panel
set the "Align to" to "Selection"
attempt that the distribute spacing (or, in fact, any of the align panel options) doesn't seem to work. I have to ungroup the objects first.
If i choose Align to Artboard some of the options work.
Is this a ttwii (that's the way it is) or am i doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve

    Yes ttwi.
Align & Distribute, aligns and distributes groups, not the elements within a group.
If this was the other way around trying to align logos/UPCs/illustrations would create a mess as these are usually groups of multiple elements.

  • How do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?

how do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?
Without free hand creating the sizing?

Assuming by "interactive text boxes" you mean form fields; in Acrobat, make a form field, then copy it and paste. (GIve the pasted copy a different name so they don't genetate the same field feedback.) Now you have two fields of the exact same size. Shift-click or marquee-drag to select both, then right-click and choose a command from the Align, Distribute or Center menu.

  • Align panel is blank

I'm using InDesign 5.0.2 in CS3 on a MAC running OSX 10.5.4 and my align/distribute panel has suddenly gone blank even when objects are selected.
There may be a stupidly simple answer to this but I can't think of it.
    Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem using IDCS3 with Mac OSX 10.5.5, tried all suggestions above and it still doesn't work. Only when I add a graphic frame, then the align buttons show up.
    Any other suggestions?
