Align MathType equations in InDesign

Hello
Anyone know how to align mathtype equations in InDesign CS 4 automatic? I read many discussions topics here about scripts that apply equations and align, but I want to know if there are one way to use any script just to align the equations automatic in InDesign for MAC OS, there are any script that can do just that for Mac?
Thanks
Jonas!

Hello,
If you work on PC, I think I can help you by my system of scripts (MT-Script).
You can read more about it on my site (http://mtscript.ru) or in Scribd publication (http://www.scribd.com/doc/73272275/MT-Script-or-How-to-Work-With-MathType-Equations-in-InD esign).
So, what you can do with my scripts? I think... all you need to prepare your publication very and very quickly.
For example,
you can paste equations from Word into InDesign (you can work traditionally via exporting equations to Eqn00010.eps... and placing these equations into InDesign publication instead of texts with tags like this <<Eqn00010.eps>> ... but I'm just ready to suppose you new and very simple technick ... simply paste all doc-file WITH equations (like MathType objects) into InDesign and process it by MT-UnembedEqn script ... and that's all);
you can edit equations directly in InDesign as native objects;
you can create new equation in InDesign without Word;
you can format all or some equations at a moment directly in InDesign;
you can find and change in equations;
you can export InDesign publication to RTF with editable MathType equations. Yes! You can do it... It's very simple... one click procedure. The forward and backward conversion Word-InDesign have been perfectly created in MT-Script;
you can test it as full functional system from the second part of Friday till the end of Monday every week;
you can ask me about MT-Script (MathType+InDesign problems as well) just now --> [email protected]
I'm very pleased to help you with MathType equations in InDesign.
BUT if it's usefull for you I can create a limited version for Mac which can paste, adjust equations and exporting InDesign publication to RTF with editable equations.
The functionality to create new equations and edit them in InDesign will be restricted because of I don't work with Mac and can't create a "bridge" program to start MathType directly from my scripts on Mac. Sorry.
Thank you.

  • Mathtype Equation Align

    Hi All,
I need advice from all of them reg. the alignment of MathType Equations.
We have developed a javascript which will place all the equation in appropriate places.
The script will search <<Eqn001.eps>> etc... and replace with appropriate image over there. Its working fine.
Still there is manual intervention of aligning the equation. We are unable to Align the equation in place, we need to align it manually. Is there is any way to align it properly.
I have downloaded the Demo version of "MT2InD_CS3_demo" from Adobe site. This Demo version is aligining the equation automatically and its perfect.
We need advice how to align the equation.
We are using Indesign CS2 in MAC OS.
    kavya

MathMagic reads MathType equations including MathType EPS files.
And MathMagic Pro comes with InDesign CSx plug-ins. MathMagic plug-ins have the ability to align the baseline of EPS equations automatically when inserted as inline graphics in a text box.
There is also a dialog UI to adjust the baseline manually (up to in 1/1000 pt unit) if the automatic setting should be changed for some reasons.
MathMagic Pro also offers other benefits such as duble-clicking to reedit the equation, and other productivity options.

  • Equations in InDesign

I have a document which needs to have (non-simple) engineering equations inserted. This is the third booklet in a series, the first 2 docs were created in InDesign but did not have much technical jargon.  I would rather not put this document into Word, so I have downloaded the equation editor "MathType" in the hope that the equations could be done from within InDesign.  The MathType 'creaters' say it is compatible with InDesign. However, as far as I can tell, the only way I can get an equation into InDesign, is by copy & paste which means it goes in as a figure/object. Well, this is fine, except uniform re-sizing through the document might be a problem, as well as the fact that the equation does not seem to be editable, and it seems that the equation would need to be re-created, if there are any changes to it.
My question is, is it possible to put editable (complex) equations directly into InDesign Documents? - perhaps even by some other equation plug-in?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For one-off equations most people use MathType (and live with external editing), but yes: there are a couple of commercial plugins that add editable equations to InDesign. InMath (http://www.itip-gmbh.eu/en/products/inmath/) and MathMagic (http://www.mathmagic.com/product/pro.html) are probably the best known.
A thorough discussion on MathType and a few plugins can be found at http://objectmix.com/adobe-indesign/225551-indesign-equations.html

  • Fonts issue with MathType EPS in InDesign

We have been using MathType 6.7e version for creating equations as eps format on Mac OS 10.6. We will import the same into InDesign CS6 for doing pagination. On a particular title, we have used the OTF font name "KozGoPro-Regular.otf" (Chinese/Japanese font) in the MathType to create the equation.
When we place this eps file (MathType) in InDesign CS6, a pop-up error message appears on the InDesign (screen shot appended below) and the eps file has turned to grey box without appearing actual content. The problem is with the font using in MathType equation  and import into InDesign whereas no issue if we could apply the same font for a text in InDesign. The appearance of the text shows right font without issue.
Much appreciated if you could help me on this issue.

Can you try to convert the EPS in the Distiller to a PDF file, but make sure that
you have not used any false style on the first place in the file,
that all used fonts and styles are installed on the computer,
that the file and the licence is allowing you to embed the font into a PDF and
that you make a Distiller Joboption which will embed completely all used fonts, or at least all used glyphs.

  • [IDCS3] Mathtype equations eps problem

    Hi all,
I'm using IDCS3 & Mathtype 6.0, we placed the eps file from mathtype to InDesign and did ps to PDF. I noticed that some of the characters in pdf are applied artificial bold in some equations.
When we check closely, I think it is not concerned with InDesign, if we place the eps file directly into PDF it shows artificial bold in some places. I placed the screenshot below.
In the 1st image in 2nd line, 35-9/60, 0 is duplictaed twice so it appears as artificial bold in in 2nd image in the pdf.
But it is actually a single character when opening the same eps file in Math type.
Why this occouring? Anyone came across this kind of prob..
    Any suggestions would be helpful..

    Hello,
Your problem maybe concerned with MathType's bug.
You must have problems with generated PS from publication with MathType equations placed as EPS (lost or jumping characters).
There is a way to correct it. But in this case you must do some changes in MathType EXE-file.
    1. Do a copy of MathType.exe.
    2. Use HEX editor.
    3. Open MathType.exe by HEX editor and find ASCII code
    /ns {cf sf} bdef
    4. Change "b" to white space (" ") carefully.
    5. Save MathType.exe.
    6. Recreate equations. EPS-files must be created by edited MathType.exe once more before problems will disappear.
    7. Now all your PS and PDF will be Ok.
Please, do copies of all your files before all changes... to revert in problems case...
And this is not well method because of changing of MathType code. Sorry.
The original idea was published for the first time here http://forum.rudtp.ru/showthread.php?t=32658

  • Pages 5.1:   Insert MathType equation into text box?

How do I insert a MathType equation into a text box in Pages 5.1?  This was no problem at all in '09!

    To DandelionJoy and Mr.MathType
As said by Mr.Mathtype we can enter and editable MathType equation with text into a Pages 5.1 text box. My procedure tried a few minutes ago is :
Inserting a MathType equation in a text box of Pages 5.1
      1) Don’t forget to open MathType before pages 5.1.
      2) In Pages : Menu Insert > Text box > select it > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on Page > do other settings in the Inspector.
      3) Menu Insert > Equation MathType…
      4) In MathType : type your equation > click the red round button of the window to close it > the equation is now in the Pages window.
      5) In Pages : select the equation > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on page > do other settings in the Inspector ; you may change size and move the equation without using the Inspector.
      6) Type your text in the text box and move the equation as desired.
      7) Select equation and text box > Menu Arrange > Group : now equation and text box are joined together, the whole thing can be moved and use the Inspector settings.
The equation can be edited using the same way as for an equation in the text.
    So long,

  • Why does "Insert MathType Equation" not work in new Pages for Mac?

Command opens MathType (6.7e).  After typing an equation, pressing Command-W closes the MathType window and returns to Pages.  (Instructions given here: http://help.apple.com/pages/mac/5.0/#/tan0e6bf8310  indicate that I should have to answer "Yes" to some question at this point, but no question appears.  The return to Pages is automatic.)  But no equation appears in the placeholder in the Pages 5.0 document (as it does in Pages 4.3).  Subsequently double-clicking the placeholder in the Pages 5.0 document opens a new (blank) MathType window.  Where is my equation?

Right -- you shouldn't have to start MathType separately. If it's running, fine, but if it's not, it will start when you first use the Insert MathType Equation command.
All the posts and replies have been helpful, but I'm still getting mixed results. The first document I opened in Pages 5.0 was one that I created in Pages 4.3, and it had several MathType equations in it. I could not edit the old equations, but I could insert new ones and edit them once they were inserted. I later rebooted and opened the same document (which was now saved in Pages 5.0 format), and I got a message saying some of the images had been deleted. All of the original equations had been replaced with empty placeholders (gray boxes with a large X), but the new ones were still there.
I haven't been able to duplicate that behavior with additional "old" documents. I can open Pages 4.3 documents in Pages 5.0, and all the old equations are visible and editable. Someone mentioned re-installing MathType, and I must say that I did that (for a different reason), so I must consider the possibility that this had some bearing on the outcome, but I can't be sure.
It does appear, as has been reported many times, and as Peter alluded to above, that you can't add equations or other objects to text boxes or tables. I believe this was intentional on Apple's part, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea.
That said, and this is a Pages thread so I won't say much about it, I haven't seen any problems at all with Keynote 6.0 and Numbers 3.0, when it comes to how they deal with MathType.

  • Mathtype Equations Do Not Render Nicely in iBooks Author

When you export iBooks docs to PDF, equations inserted with MathType (version 6c) appear pixelated or fuzzy (not sure of the proper term) in Preview.  Any fix for that?  Otherwise, I have to switch back to Pages to create course materials, and I'd rather not because iBooks author is pretty cool.
    Gregory

Interesting. Especially puzzling too, since Pages '09 and iBooks Author (iBA) share what I assumed was the same composition engine. However, my MathType equations in a Pages '09 document that I export to PDF are crisp and clear, but my equations from iBA are fuzzy like yours. PLEASE report this to Apple (don't assume they'll read it here). Here's a link for that: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks-author.html
I've tried several methods of producing the PDF from iBA:
Export > PDF > Best Quality
    Print > PDF
Print > Save As Adobe PDF > High Quality Print (got an error on this one, saying Distiller wasn't properly installed)
    Print > Save As Postscript
All of these methods (except the one that gave the error) produced fuzzy equations. I did find one method to produce crisp equations from iBA when exportint to PDF, and that is to not use the Insert MathType Equation command, and don't copy & paste from MathType into iBA -- use drag & drop. Problem with that method is that D&D produces an equation that in iBA is a floating equation that you'll have to place manually where you want it -- a huge pain.
I've attached a screen shot of my sample PDF. You can see which equations were drag & drop and which were inserted via the menu, or pasted.

  • Do MathType equations in Word import effectively into iBooks Author?

I am looking for the best way to build MathType equations in Word to successfully import into iBooks Author.

That seems like an extra step. Since iBooks Author (iBA) already has a "MathType Equation" command on its Insert menu, why not do it directly from iBA?
If, however, you want to do it as you describe (or perhaps you have an existing Word document and you want to use its equations in iBA -- that makes sense), you'll need to build the equations in Word, then select the one you want (i.e., click on it once), copy it, then use the Insert > MathType Equation command in iBA. When MathType opens, paste the equation into the window. Close MathType and the equation will insert into iBA.
Incidentally, WRT TX Aggie SE's suggestion to use the MS Word Equation Editor, I think you'll find that'll produce less than satisfactory results in iBA, no matter if you use the "old" equation editor, or the "new" one that was introduced in Word 2011.

  • How do I imbed a MathType Equation in a sentence within a textbox?

When I try to "insert MathType Equation" in a textbox it just randomly inserts it anywhere on the page instead of at the insertion point where I have the cursor setting when I click on "insert MathType Equation".  It works fine in Pages, but just does a random insert in Numbers.
I am using Numbers '09 ver. 2.1  and MathType 6.7b

    Thanks a lot.
I was a bit annoyed because, as I have no personal need for MathType, I just downloaded the demo some times ago to help an user which was annoyed because font size changes in MathType weren't reflected in his Pages documents. I built an AppleScript which did the trick.
Alas, now my copy is running in demo mode so I wasn't fully sure that what I got was the behavior of the full version.
Now I know that it is.
As you saw in my messages, my responce was that I was accustomed to this kind of inconsistencies.
Pages and Numbers are supposed to use the same tool for tables but in fact some features available in Numbers are missing in Pages tables.
So it was difficult to guess if there is an oddity specific to Numbers or if we get the normal behavior (I failed to try to insert a formula in a box).
It was also difficult to guess if the apps was unaware of its User Guide (which is sometimes the case) or if the User Guide was unaware of the true app design (which strike more often).
May you have a quick look in the forums searching with the keyword MathType restricting the range to iWork during the two last months ?
If I remember well some users encountered problem when they switched to Lion.
I wrote "if I remember well" because I'm switching many timrs a day between 10.7 and 10.6.8 so that sometimes I'm not fully sure of what came to mind. I'm sure that some users got problems with EndNote and I have the impression that some of them had problems with MathType.

I bought pages on the app store and have math type installed. However I am do not have the option to "Insert > Mathtype Equations" either with right click or the drop down menus at the top of the screen. I also have OS Lion installed if this makes any difference. Please help!

I assume but I can't check that MathType rely on the standard iWork applications location which isn't the one used by the mac App Store.
Create a subfolder named iWork '09 in the Applications folder.
Select the iwork applications which you own then drag them into the iWork '09 folder.
You will be asked to type your password. Don't worry, it's normal.
It's required because the System must store the infos describing the new location so that, if a new revision is delivered, mac App Store will be able to find the apps where they are.
When this will be done, try to re-install MathType.
I guess that this time it will behave flawlessly.

  • Batch import of eps equations into indesign

Hi, I am Thangaraj Mohan, working as an layout artist. Now I am working on a Math book which has tones of equations in it. The whole text keyed in MS word, and the equations are typed inside using mathtype. I exported all equations using mathtype, mathtype exports all equations and replaces with its file name (ie. <<equ001>>) in MS word.
Now my problem is to how place these equations inside the InDesign document. Please help me with your ideas to import all eps files into InDesign as Batch import.
    Thanks a lot.

    hi
you don't need to export Equations as EPS file s- you can jest Copy and Paste or Place your document - all Equations will be imported as embeded graphics - with bad preview - but with Vector contents so they will print fine
if you really need to reimport EPS files - then you need macro to surround Equations with tags which then can be used by script to place EPS files
    from:
    9.1 a) ###  b) ###  c) ###  d) ###
    to:
    9.1 a) <EQ1<###>EQ1>  b) <EQ2<###>EQ2>  c) <EQ3<###>EQ3>  d)  <EQ4<###>EQ4>
but this will require that you will have only equations - no other images - or you will need to renumber-rename files

  • How to handle TeX/LaTeX equations in InDesign?

    Hi All,
I've recd. a request to handle one of the title already done in LaTeX software in InDesign, for this I need to do the below tasks:
    (1) Need to convert the LaTeX data to load in InDesign
    (2) Need to convert the equations done with LaTeX coding as equation objects in InDesign
    (3) Need to retain the LaTeX links to work in InDesign, so that while generating the PDF, these links should be worked
So pl. give me your suggestions to handle the above mentioned tasks. I know I can use the third-party tool called 'MathMagic' to handle point 2 (but this tool seems expensive), but I need to know whether any other easy methods to handle. I'm using InDesign - CS3 (Windows)
    Thanks,
    Praveen

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the response.
For points 1 and 3, I decided to convert the LaTeX contents to XML to fix the linking using automation thro' JS. For point 2, I'm still studying to find a solution and since this is the first time we've recd. this request, we're not ready to invest for one title.
    Thanks again,

  • Epubs and equations in InDesign

In ID CS6, is there a way type/insert/import equations so that they will be maintained upon epub conversion?
I have some experience with InDesign, but minimal with equations so as much detail as possible would be great!

I think you have have to rasterize them using Object > Object Export Options. Choose a resolution compatible with the  device you expect them to be viewed on. I'd probably choose 300 ppi to be safe.
