Aligning HP D4160 Printer

I recently had to replace a cartridge in my HP Deskjet D4160 printer. Whenever I do this, I realign the carts using the HP printer maintenance utility. However, I've discovered that the align function no longer works. I assume this is related to the HP driver update that occurred a few months ago. Other than this alignment problem, my printer works fine.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.5 on an iMac, The printer drivers are identified as 2.3.3. I ran the system console when I clicked on the "align" button and got the following message:
Oct 16 11:30:27 Cesium HP Printer Utility[364]: * -[HSDDeviceIdStateChecker isPenSetIncorrect]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x4d17f0
As a check, I hooked up my printer to an old PPC iBook running 10.4.11 with printer drivers version 4.0.1. The align function worked just fine.
Any suggestions about what to do to get "align" back?

Is there any error message on your computer?
An error message clarifying the problem should appear on your PC screen or within the HP Solution Center Software.
The specific error should be identified using your PC, as the blinking like may indicate either a paper jam, missing paper, a problem with one of the cartridges..
Make sure to follow the steps relevant for the problem you are seeing both by your printer and PC:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00635074&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=501857&tmp_...
As well, make sure the printer is properly connected in order the software will indicate the software.
If you cannot see any indication on your PC, please verify if the Full HP Software is installed (will be listed under Control Panel > Uninstall a Program)
As well, enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers:
Place your mouse cursor above the printer icon, a note indicating the printer status should appear above - what is the printer state and how many documents are placed within the print queue?

  • HP PSC 1510XI ALL IN ONE. ALIGNMENT PAPER KEEPS PRINTING AFTER I SCAN IT FOR A NEW CARTRIDGE

ALIGNMENT PAPER KEEPS PRINTING WHEN I INSTALL A NEW CARTRIDGE..I SCAN THE PAPER AND EVERYTIME I TURN ON THE PRINTER, IT PRINTS AGAIN. I'M WASTING INK. HELP.

I have the same printer with the same problem since I hooked it up to my HP G62 Laptop and installed the HP Scan Center (which replaced the old program console (name escapes me at the moment)).
Every time I turn on the Laptop or switch users that irritating message to align the print cartridges comes up.
I've tried immediately scanning the alignment page once it was printed and the program STILL wants me to align the cartridges.
What really gets me is that on the very same page that tells me to align the cartridges it says that the printer automatically aligns the cartridges when it's turned on - so why should it need to do so again when switching users?
I never had this problem with the old console/software that the Scan Center replaced.
    Frustrating!

  • My Lexmark X2670 printer doesn't work right since I reinstalled the Firefox 3,6 version. I keep getting the alignment page to print over and over. Is there a problem between the two? Do I need a new printer driver? What?Daisynew66

I had to change my hrowser to Firefox because Internet Explorer 9 doesn't work with my ancestry.com program. I can't uninstall Internet Explorer 9. I got Firefox 4 and it didn't work either. I started having problems with my printer working at all then. l was told to go to Firefox 3.x. I looked and there is no 3.x it is 3.5 or 3.6. I downloaded 3.6. Now I keep getting a alignment page and end up having to shut off my printer. I'm using way too much ink. I'm almost out with no hope of getting more ink until I get paid. I can't find anyplace that says to update a driver or that I need a plug-in or what might be I've done everything I know to do.wrong. It has new port cables. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Do I need to uninstall the printer and reinstall it again? daisy

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Avery Barcode labels does not align properly when printed from Adobe Reader 11.0.0

    Hi,
I have barcode labels in a PDF (Version 1.4, Acrobat 5.x). PDF producer is PPAlambic(Distiller). When I try to print the PDF on to Avery 5160 sheet containing 30 labels (10 rows; 3 labels in a row), always the barcodes on the first column goes beyond the left margins and hence does not print the full barcode. PDF size is 8.5" * 11" .I have tried following options in Print dialog box:
    1. Actual Size + Portrait + Letter size
    2. Shrink oversized pages + Portrait + Letter size
    3. Fit + Portrait + Letter size
None of the above options resolved my issue.
When I open the same PDF in Adobe Reader 11.0.07, it prints perfectly. Does someone help me understand if this is a known defect in Adobe 11.0.0 and is there any workaround in 11.0.0 itself to adjust the alignment?
Note: PDF is not editable as it comes from a third party vendor. Please help.

  • How do I eliminate the pop up asking for an alignment before every print job?

I use a ton of ink at my job and I don't want to align the printer everytime I install a new cartridge but I am also sick to death of having a pop-up window for "Alignment Recommended" before every print job.  How do I turn off these pop-ups

You can not.  You must align the cartridges for best performance every time.  Sorry.

  • How do you stop the "alignment" after every print job?

We got this printer because at first received great reviews, it had a fax, copier and printer.  However, as discussed in another forum, we are wasting color ink when we print in black/white.  I just installed a magenta and already it has lost 1/4 of the ink for "aligning".   Is it set up in the programming to align after print job?  I"m so over this!  I have to hit cancel then wait 4 min for it to cancel.  I have algined and everything is ok, not sure why after each print job.  I followed "HPs guidelines" on the program but there is nothing there to address this issue.  Any help or thought would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Labels are not aligned properly when printed using HP5610

    Hi ,
I am trying to print Avery J8160 labels using my HP 5610 Officejet. I am using official Avery templates and have checked all printer settings, there are no issues.
Everything is fine if I use plain paper but if I use Avery label A4 sheet, the alignment goes out. It's as if the label paper is not being drawn into the printer properly. All print settings are fine. I have contacted Avery and they have no explanation. Avery infact said that there is issue of alignment with printer and contact HP for finding solution. And they said most probably its something to do with printer treating both papers differently and some kind of skidding on rollers or something else resulting into this issue.
I have just done a quick test, I removed top row of labels and then feed the sheet and everything is fine. To me somehow seems that its thickness of label sheet and somehow printer start printing before actual print area on sheet starts. While in case if paper is thin (normal paper or top row of labels removed) , everything is fine.
Any help would be great, I have already wasted many sheets of labels.
    regards
    Maninder

  • When I print on letterhead that is thicker, the alignment of the print is wrong.

When printing on 20# white paper, the printer prints the file correctly.  When switching to a 24# letterhead, the printer prints lower on the paper, not in the proper area.

I am having the same issue.  My printer is an HP officejet pro 8600 plus.  When printing on letterhead paper the alignment is wrong.
My letterhead has a 1 1/2 inch header (the top 1 inch is blue).  The color goes to the edge of the paper.  The letterhead is the equivalent of #28 paper (heavier than copy paper).
When printing a letter I set it up to print 2 inches from the top of the paper.  (I normally do this by having the one inch preset margin in Word, and entering a few times until I am at the 2 inch mark on the side ruler.
When I print a single copy of a document onto letterhead the printing starts at the 3 inches down on the sheet of paper.  (It is as if the printer cannot see the top 1 inch of blue  on the letterhead!!!)
If I print that same document on white paper the printing starts 2 inches down.
When I print multiple copies of the same document, all onto letterhead, the first one prints 3 inches down and the rest print 2 inches down.
    I have tried:
Choosing a different paper type:  This did not work.  I tried thicker paper and custom paper but there was no change
Changing print source from auto to tray 1:  This made no change on a single document and caused EVERY document to print at three inches on multiple copies.
Changing to borderless printing:  No change
I tried a few other things - but nothing seems to work...

  • Problem with Script Alignment for new printer

    Hi All,
I'm printing SAP checks to LOCAL printer. Currently we are using Dell W5300n to print checks and the printer has a lot of maintenance problems.  Therefore we purchase a new printer Dell 3110cn  and would like to have it set up to print checks.  We would still keep old printer ( Dell W5300n ) for back up.We changed the printer to new as there is some problem with old printer.
Problem is , if we print a check from using old printer, the check alignment is good.  But if we print a check from  new printer, the check alignment is off.
    I'm using DINA4 Page format.
Can you please tell me what is the problem here?
    Thanks,
    Subha

    Hi Subhashini Kuntala,
For your issue there are few things to check ...
    1. We need to find exact Printer (new) drivers which matches exactly the (old)  Printer.
    2. Is your cheque is in A4 size or Customised size.
    3. If it is A4 try to print in Other Printer.
If these senerio's does't work, as a ABAPer You can't do anything else .. So, best to pass this issue to BASIS.
    That could resolve your Problem.
    Regards,
    sg

  • Alignment error with printer HP4500

I have a new HP4500 wirelessly connected to my desktop using windows 7. Although it works perfectly it tends to print too high up on each sheet of paper and with some printing adds a line at the top and the bottom of the page showing about one third of each character. The cartridges are HP and the display on the Word screen is spaced correctly.

Hello @sideslip and welcome to the HP Forums
Which HP 4500 do you have?
Are you able to make a Copy on that 4500 without the same issue occurring?
Is the printer connected via USB or wireless?
Does it have that issue regardless of what program you print from?
Once I have this information I should be able to help you narrow down what's causing the issue!
