Aligning Video with Audio

I am attempting to align video with audio of a clip from another camera. Is there an incremental way of aligning. At the moment when I move the video clip on the timeline it is not fine enough to to align.

select the clip in the timeline then nudge it left and right using the trim keys, the comma and period keys, to nudge left and right by one frame at a time (the square brackets also do the same). if you hold down the shift key at the same time you'll get a multi-frame nudge ... the number of frames depends on your "multi-frame trim size" setting in your Final Cut Pro > User Preferences --> Editing tab
of course, you can only nudge the clip if there is no other clip in the way, otherwise you will just get a "clip collision" ... if that is the case then you'll need to "slip" or "slide" the clip in place. exactly the same procedure/keystrokes as before, but you just need to select the slip or slide tool before you start pressing those trim keys.

Can I suggest using something that will allow audio capture from the external mic. to start with. Then you will have a video with audio in sync, in a format that you can re encode into whatever format you wish.
But, if you must do that. Dump the video from the handycam file, then put the mics audio file with it. ffmpeg -i video ffmpeg -i audio into whatever container and codecs that you want. You may have to adjust audio-video sync
ffmpeg -i audio -itsoffset 0.1 -i video

ffmpeg will do just about anything, but is a little daunting. Ask specific questions and you'll get specific answers. Or find a front end for it. I never use them.

Import video with audio question

When I start a new project and import a video with audio, then drag to the timeline , it puts the latter on audio 4 track instead of track 1. Why is it skipping 3 tracks?

. Thanks Bill. It was a mono track and the 3 above were stereo. I deleted the 3 empty tracks and now it is below the video directly. What I am also wondering about is why the video track can be widened vertically,by dragging the bottom border and the previous audio 1 track could be also, but this one can not. Is it not possible to see the waveform as I can when I imported an audio file in a different project? That one was expandable veritically.There was no video in that one.

Make sure when you export you select the option to include audio. It seems some of the default settings do not include the audio.

Can you link Audio to any video in time line so it functions as if you imported a video with audio?

I have video and I also have externally recorded audio to sync with it. Now I understand that you can drag the video in (delete its audio if it has any) and then drag a audio clip into the timeline and place it under neath it. I can get it synced and all that fine.
The problem I have is that it is cumbersome to edit like this. When you import a video with embedded audio if you make a cut it cuts the video AND the audio attached to it in one go. If you do it the way I am doing now you need to add extra cuts on the audio file as well. So you effectively doubling the clicks needed to edit. Also when you are deleting clips and sliding stuff about you need to be extra careful to make sure that the audio and video stays in sync.
What I am hoping for is a way to "attach" the audio to the video with out adding a long and time consuming process of rendering out a video file with it embedded.
Solutions I have tried and failed.
GROUP : This seams like the obvious thing to do.. If I group them I can select them as one, move them as one.. but if I select the cut tool it still only cuts either the video or audio.. not both.
SEQUENCE : The other option I tried is once it is synced I make a new sequence and add the sequence with the synced audo and video to it and then edit on that. I am not editing a sequence not the raw audio and video. The problem here is that while now the cut tool cuts both the video AND audio at once and I can also move and edit easily.. the problem is that now the wave form dose not show up in the audio track when you expand it. It is just a big blank green box (even though there is audio in the original sequence)

I'm still using Cs6.... I found that if you hold shift+click with the cut tool it cuts it.. I'll try link as shifting is a pain...
Maybe there is a way to set teh shift+click as the default action for the cut tool?

Converting Music Videos - With Audio

How come when i convert a music video into a mpeg-4 format, it does not have audio along with video?

I guess because it's the file format that you have to change. I went on my Limewire and downloaded mp4 video files. You don't need to convert those because they are already in the correct format. Those play with both video and audio on the iPod with no problem.

AE CS3: Crashes on export to Adobe Flash Video (with audio)

I have a 10 second comp I'm rendering to Adobe Flash Video. The comp has a wav file on it.
I have ram previewed the comp and it plays back just fine.
When I render it to Adobe Flash Video via the render queue my comp crashes at 30 frames in everytime.
However if I remove the wave file from my comp, AE will fully render the comp to an FLV file.
I have also tried replacing the wav file with another random wav file - I get the same crash everytime at 30 frames in.
I also made a comp from scratch and tried to render it to Adobe Flash Video with a wav clip and it crashes 30 frames in every time.
Please note when it hits frame 30 on the render, a window pops up ( a dos type window ) and then the window closes along with AE right away leaving me with no error messages or even an error log. I was able to get a screen cap of the error and it's attached.
I am running Windows Vista 64-bit and this is the first problem I've had with AE CS3.
Is this a known issue and is there a workaround for this?

Simple question on aligning video and audio

I am new to this and am using the Cs4 trial. I have placed a video in video 1 timeline and it has audio that appears in the audio one line. Now I have also inserted a plain audio file from the sound board of the same event into audio track two. I would like to align them so I magnified them and can see the exact start time of the audio in the waveform. The problem is I can not align the two. If I slide either one back and forth they just jump to a frame marker. Like I said I am new at this. I can understand that the video can only move on frame or one key frame at a time? But shouldn't the audio just slide with out jumping? I hit a button that said snapping but that didn't change anything.
Also how do you align two videos? If I have two videos of the same performance It would seem that I have to align them together to then use the multicamera mode? I tried the razor tool but that only seems to cut on a frame. Doug

You can set the timecode display to "Audio Time Units" which gives you much more finite control when positioning or trimming audio tracks. Click the fly-out menu in the Timeline panel or Program Monitor to find it:
Note that video can only be positioned or trimmed to whole frames; how precise you get is dicatated by the timebase of your sequence. For example, in a 24p sequence, you only have 24 subdivisions of a second; in a 60p sequence, you have 60 subdivisions. Likewise, the razor tool/command is bound to frames, at least when slicing video.

Video with audio, narration and soundtrack has no narration after rendering

Hi,
I edited a video and then I added a narration and a soundtrack.
In the editor I see and hear exactly what I want.
When I'm publishing the video though the narration is lost.
I've tried with both Premiere Elements 11 and 12 with the same results.
I've tried different output fortmats, but still no narration.
I've attached a picture of the editor. Note that I rendered only the workarea.
I can hear the soundtrack and the audio 1 at the beginning and the audio 1 at the end.
But I cannot hear the narration in any output format.
Can you help me??

I noticed a peculier thing after I updated After Effects. I tried to render it again but using a different file type: AVI. It rendered, just fine, sound and all... but it was 4 GB. Then I tried rendering at as a Quicktime: Photo - JPEG, with the same result as the very first time I tried it: no sound. But then I played it in Quicktime, instead of WMP 11, and it plays just find, sound and all. So I'm wondering why it would not play sound on my computer or Youtube, if its just a problem with the player. Any ideas?

Ipod Movie/Video with Audio problems

I have some music videos, it would only sync as imovie...but even so their shouldnt be a problem with the audio function of the ipod should their? i just received the ipod for christmas but the videos i have uploaded have no sound....reguler songs work fine...could someone help me with the problem so i could enjoy the music of my videos?

Sounds like the video files might not be in the correct format for use with the iPod. I would recommend that you download an iPod Video Converter and run the files through it, and then try syncing the newly created files on to the iPod.
I've used Videora, and have had some good results with it. The only problem that I've really run into is that sometimes the audio is a few seconds out of sync with the video. It's not soo bad that watching the video files is unbearable, but that's all up to you.
You can try a Google search for iPod Video Converter, or you can check on VersionTracker.com

IPhone video with audio, but after import to iMac; no audio

I have an iPhone video I recored on my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.1. It plays just fine on the iPhone WITH sound just fine.
When I used Image Capture to bring it into my iMac OSX 10.9.2 the audio is silent. Quicktime Player shows an audio track, but when I play the video it is silent. Other movies play fine in Quicktime Player
Any ideas?

Any way to place an educational map over existing video with audio

Ideally, I'd like to place an educational map (from Maps, Backgrounds and Animatics) over existing audio on a clip just as you can insert a cutaway photo. Is there any way to do that? Whenever I try, I can only get the map to insert before or after the clip without audiio. If that is not possible, is there some way to slide the audio track so that it is under the inserted map?

You can drag a map over an existing clip in the timeline and it will act as a cutaway with the audio continuing - I have just tried it.
You could also detach the audio from the clip, trim part of the video away and replace it with the map but the above is the simplest.

Importing Video with audio- Converting MPEG comes out pixelated

I've got two problems.
I know I need to convert my MPEG movie to another format, and I cannot remember which, in order for FCE to capture the audio that comes with it. Right?
Do you know which format and specifications I need?
Also-
I've been using an MPEG Streamclip program to convert, but whatever I try (I havent gotten to importing it to FCE, so I dont even know if the audio will come in there or not) the video comes out extremely pixelated. I know it can be remedied, because the original is in much better quality. Ive tried MPG4 an Quicktime movies, but nothing is working. Is it the frame rate? Anything else? I am drawing a blank.

Black Video, with Audio (Windows XP PRO)

I am running Windows XP Pro with Quicktime 7.1.3. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 connected via DVI to an LCD panel. I have a known to work Quicktime .mov file (mpeg4 compressor) that I am trying to play. I have played this file numerous times without any problems.
Recently, I can not play any Quicktime files. I can hear the audio, but all I get throughout the video is a black screen. This is true with my test files, and every other file including the trailers from the apple web site.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled (using the itunes bundle) and I get the exact same results.
I have tried the "Safe Mode" settings just to see if it does anything and it does not.
The only hardware that has changed since it was working was the LCD panel. I also have a 64 bit version of windows on this server and I am able to play the test file without any problems, so unless there is something strange in xp pro I am ruling out that the LCD is the problem.
I wish I could pin point when this stopped working so I might guess what might be causing the problem, but unfortunately I do not know. It might be after doing an upgrade to Quicktime 7.1.3, but I am not sure.
All other media players can playback .avi and MPEG2 video files, so I do not think it is a problem with the graphic adapter. I tried to update the NVIDIA drivers just in case, but again no luck.
Is there a manual "un-installation" documentation that is available that might help me clean out some nasty settings that are causing the problem?
Another strange side effect is that the Quicklaunch icon for Quicktime Player is never correct until it has been clicked. The same is true for the icons in the start menu (Picture Viewer, About Quicktime, etc).
If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. I am running xp pro under bootcamp. My quicktime video will pplay fine in osx, but all i get is audio in windows. I would also appreciate any help
