All About iWeb in .mac

After reading so many complains on version 1.1. And some users are not affected and some were.
Just one of my tots, is that a server end problem or client side problem? Is all our iWeb pages with special functions like the counters, comments that publishes to .mac uses webservices? Or it is directly from iWeb (client side)????

Well Eric, I think that's an excellent question (is it a server side or client side issue) and my suspicion is that it's a server side problem. My only problem is with comments appearing offline in iWeb but not on my published site. Mind you they did appear on the site for a while and I have been able to compare the code for my pages with and without comment working and they are identical. Has to be server side I reckon, which might just mean the problem silently goes away when Apple get to the bottom of it. I assume they're working on it because I noticed them poking around my site a bit earlier today.

It says I have over 150 gigs of video on my hard drive. But I have gone through and deleted almost all of what shows up, still it says there is roughly the same amount on the hard drive. Where are these files? I want to delete them so I can have my hard drive clear.
    Thanks for your help guys!

    Quote from the article.
Time Machine in OS X Lion includes a new feature called "local snapshots" that keeps copies of files you create, modify or delete on your internal disk. Local snapshots compliment regular Time Machine backups (that are stored on your external disk or Time Capsule) giving you a "safety net" for times when you might be away from your external backup disk or Time Capsule and accidentally delete a file.
So what makes a notebook any different then a desktop, other then with a desktop you might have your tm backup drive connected all the time.
The object here is to not indiscriminately delete files you need or want to keep. I personally have never deleted a file I wanted to keep.
In essence a backup is for catastrophic failure of your system. So it can be restored once that failure has been fixed. Not because you go in willy nilly and start deleting files.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • So what now? Will Apple ditch iWeb? They could at least tell us what's going to happen. If they ditch the app I'll ditch Apple. After all I bought the Macs for my wife so she could make her own websites.

iWeb will still function, even after being ditched by Apple, so your wife can continue creating beautiful webpages.

  • With iLife/iWeb '06/.Mac :    can I put photos in a Photo Gallery?

If a person has iLife '06 and the iWeb that came with it (and the update)
    and belongs to .Mac:
    1) can s/he put photos up in the Photo Gallery?
    2) Or must one have iWeb '08 to put photos onto the Photo Gallery?
I plan to get the Intel iMac when it arrives and I hear that iLife '08 will come installed.
    Thank you,

Dear Quictime Kirk — You are thinking as I do about those purchases, except that I also want to buy iWork so that I can have Pages. (Keynote will be a nice extra.)
My website is large and I do want to shift it all into iWeb '08 because I believe (tell me if I'm wrong) that it will have a nicer look. I am not necessarily meaning those widgets.
I intend to delete some of the pages which time has shown I have less interest in, but there are additions that I want to make....... and I want to do it all with the new iWeb in iLife '08.
I still remember that awesome page of yours, the fires of Malibu, and the music.

  • IWeb versus .Mac

I am looking into purchasing .mac and iLife. On perusing, it seems iLife has iWeb and .Mac is all about interacting with the web. Why purchase both? What are the distinct differences? Anyone?
Thanks. Novice to the web using realm,
    KO

iWeb is an application for constructing websites on your computer.
.Mac is the Apple server where you can publish your site to view it in a web browser.
You do not have to have a .Mac account to publish your site. You can use the services of a web hosting company - most of which will give you a better deal and better performance than .Mac.

  • IWeb and .mac confusion

I was hoping someone could enlighten me on the difference between these two URL's:
    http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/Site/NYC.html and
    http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/Videos/Our%20Day%20at%20Boomers.html
and how they relate to my .mac homepage. I created and published these two files in iWeb but on two different Macs.
When I sign in to my .mac homepage under "My Pages" I have two links.
The URL's for those links are
    http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/Site/Disneyland%202006.html and
    http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/Site/UK%20Soccer%20Camp.html
obviously neither of these URL's match the two URL's I first spoke about.
However, from within iWeb I can see and visit many of the other pages/sites that I've built. If I type the URL http://web.mac.com/twood20 then it takes me to yet another page/site that I built(which incidentally, when I type in the URL and hit enter the URL changes to http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/Site/NYC.html
I guess to make a long deal short, I don't understand how iWeb and .mac work together in order for me to publish any or all of the pages/sites I want to make sure get published. If anyone has some useful information for me so that I can get all of my pages/sites published that would be great. Thanks in advance.

First take note of iWeb's Help viewer advice about naming your web pages:
Browsers convert spaces in site names to "%20." To avoid these symbols, use an underscore, hyphen, or some other character instead of a space. Also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
Other characters aren't recommended for use in website names, including: forward and backward slashes (/ \), brackets ([ ]), tilde (~), exclamation point , question mark (?), "at" sign (@), number sign (#), dollar sign ($), ampersand (&), asterisk (*), colon (:), equal sign (=), comma (,), and double quotation marks ("). Using these characters may result in names with strange numbers in them.
Also take a look at this Apple document:
Publish to your .Mac account from more than one computer...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303045
In general the format of your URLs is this...
    http://web.mac.com/twood20/iWeb/OneOfMySites/APageWithinThatSite.html
I'm not sure what the significance is of the pages listed in "My Pages" on .Mac, when or why that list is updated and, anyway, only you will see that list. What really matters is when someone types in your site name, does it go to your site? I suggest you clean up your page names to avoid the %20's, read that Apple document, then if you still have a specific question post back here.

  • Safari doesn't read pages generated by iWeb on .Mac, but Firefox does

I had a really bad experience with Safari 2.0.4, and I still don't know why that program is becoming such a problem. I am using Quicktime 7.1.6
I have been making podcasts using GarageBand, iWeb, and .Mac since February 2006, and things have been working okay. But today, when I checked my page on Safari after I published it using iWeb 1.1.2 to publish on .Mac, the podcast pages didn't work. Checking pages that used to work, they don't work any longer with Safari. At first, I thought it might be a problem with my storage allocation on .Mac, but that is not the case (I have using less than half my allotment). I thought the podcast file might be broken, but it works fine in iTunes. I tried it on my laptop, but Safari didn't work either.
All my podcast pages that previously worked, now show a question mark in the Quicktime box. Needless to say, I was concerned, so I tried much older files on .Mac that have already worked before, but no dice.
    One such page is:
    http://web.mac.com/eschaal/iWeb/Docketer%20Project/Podcast/C7F36E57-1AB2-4D12-A8 87-1F199E86AE2D.html
Then I tried Firefox, and it works fine.
What gives? Why is Firefox more compatible with iWeb and .Mac, than Apple's own Safari? Why is Safari suddenly not working on two different machines, while Firefox works perfectly?
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I found some further information, re my problem.
Factoid one, I went to the Apple Store in Nagoya and they had exactly the same problem on their machines that I had had, so it is NOT anything to with my machine, my upgrades, etc.
Factoid two, I ran the iWeb-generated coding through http://validator.w3.org/ and it found "page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!"
Factoid three, Firefox runs the page just fine.
Based upon this, I am posting a comment in the blog for my podcast identifying the problem and recommending that people wanting to see the page in Firefox. In the meantime, I will migrate that podcast off of .Mac, remove iWeb from my machine, and migrate all my web browsing to Firefox. I had contemplated dumping Safari before, because it has turned flaky (failing to quit sometimes and sometimes hanging up), but this was the final straw.

    Hello Halfback71,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5622
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.
    Best of luck,

  • IWeb or .Mac Homepage

I'm new to website publishing, and am wondering what the pros/cons are to iWeb and .mac homepage? How are they different? Which one is better and why?

From the Apple .Mac website.... quite a while ago:
First: reassurance. The pages you've created and are publishing with HomePage are still available at homepage.mac.com/yourmembername and you can continue to use HomePage to create and publish new pages. But what iWeb makes possible is so good; multiple websites and multiple kinds of web publishing, all made extremely easy; you'll most likely want to take advantage of it.
Not a problem. You can use iWeb as your new .Mac web publishing center and keep your existing HomePage content alive in two different ways. The simplest (and we do mean simple) is to navigate to your HomePage pages in Safari and drag the urls into pages you're creating within iWeb. The link will appear with the name you've given the page in HomePage. When you publish, any links you've dragged in will take visitors to those pages.
The other way is also simple. Just republish the pages with iWeb. The same photo album you used the iPhoto HomePage button to publish can either be republished directly out of iPhoto again or dragged straight from iWeb's integrated iLife media browser. The photos will appear instantly. Just click Publish when you're done and announce the event to your audience.
Added benefit: The new slideshow that accompanies iWeb-published photo pages is an extra pleasure to view and use.

  • About max local MAC filtering can be register in WLC 2504 and 5508

    Hi all
My customer is considering to use WLC with MAC filtering feature (use local database not external Radius). So they are concerning about maximum local MAC filtering entries that can be register on WLC2504 and WLC5508 to buy (the number of APs is about 20, but the MAC is more than 200)
I tried to search, but I could not find any specs mention it. If anyone knows, please help to answer
    Rgds

I looked at this before. I want to say its maxed at 2048 regardless of the model ..

  • "iTunes Library file cannot be saved". What is this all about?

At regular intervals, when using iTunes, I will click on something, for example the search box and a box will appear saying "the iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough privileges for this operation". Can anyone tell me what this is all about? It doesn't seem to have any adverse effect, but it is very annoying.

Well, I"m on a Mac and have the same issue and have not updated to the latest iTunes. I'm still on 8.2.0. The "cannot save iTunes library file" message just started out of the blue more or less when I was trying to figure out why downloads to my iPhone took so long to finish all of a sudden. I moved the preferences file to the desktop so it would create a new one and it was after that that I started getting the message. Now it occurs every time I remove a podcast or make any changes to the library list. Between that annoyance and having to reboot my computer every time I want to update my iPhone because that's the only way to get it to make the sync without it crawling like a snail, I find I"m getting really fed up with the whole thing. There are so many of us with the same problem that you'd think Apple would address it and fix it.

  • What is terminal all about?

I have a q ,what is terminal all about? I think that for every possiible job, there are gui-applications,I mean really for everything.. can you tell me one usefull thing that requires the use of terminal? I mean what work can be done with it? I'm not talking about issuing several commands and see the network or processor workings, that's ok , but for what else can be used terminal? obviously it is not suitable for programming or text-editing.. what can be done better with terminal and terminal like programs, that can't be done with gui-applications? why on movies and such, computer gurus are always working in black screen and letters only environment?? what are they doing?

Really? That is the absolute best use for the Terminal. I always start programming from a Terminal window.

That's just movies and, personally, I prefer a black-on-white traditional page background that is more common on Macs. Even if I'm working on Linux, another savvy programmer could probably tell I am a Mac person at heart just by looking at my terminal windows.
The easiest answer is that the Terminal, or, rather, command-line applications narrow your input to one path, the standard input, and your output to two paths, standard output and standard error. That is extraordinarily helpful because it reduces the problem space and allows you to focus. In fact, just having two output paths (one for regular output and one for errors, is actually quite a hassle).
Using these standard pipes, I can sting multiple programs together and have them work together to do very complicated things. In a GUI environment, you would need one GUI program that can do everything, which really doesn't exist. Plus, in the command line world, one data stream is the same as the next, no matter where it comes from. I can write a command line program that reads data from standard input and you can just type input into it. You could also send a file into it. You could also hook it up to a stream of network data. If you really want, you can even write a fancy GUI that sends data to it. The user on the other end will never know the difference.

  • Where is iWeb in Mac Os Lion?

Do you know how can I install iWeb in Mac Os Lion 10.7.3? I have iLife'11 but it doen't come with iWeb? Thank you

Where did you get iWeb before you upgraded to Lion? If if was preinstalled on your iMac then you will have a disk similar to #4 in this screenshot:
If you purchased the iLife 11 disk then iWeb will be on it.  All you need to do is a custom install and select only iWeb.
If your iMac came with Lion preinstalled then you'll have to follow Ethmoid's directions for obtaining iLife 11 and iWeb.
