You can boot into your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting), use Disk Utility to erase the boot drive and then elect to reinstall OS X. This will get the 'factory' setup back into place.
I'm hoping that you had backups?

  • All music wiped out during sync

I'm a brand new iPhone user and synched for the first time not knowing what I was doing. I share a computer with my daughter and when I synched it completely wiped out ALL her music. We have synched again over and over, and cannot get her music back on her iPhone. Can anyone give me guidance?

Eyedoc, I feel your pain. The iPhone does not backup your Bento Data. From your first sentence, I take it that you used Bento for iPhone and then used the Mac Desktop ver. to sync. If thats the case, then your blank database will sync to your iphone. If your data was already on your desktop Bento then Bento would have reminded you to Backup your data. If you indeed did a backup, then that file will be where ever you chose to save it where you can then reimport. I hope this helps. Please check Bento discussions

  • All documents wiped out, left only applications installed earlier

My problem earlier was that when i power on my macbook pro at night on 29 mar 2010, i realise that all my documents on my desktop, documents folder, pictures folder, as well as music folders were GONE!! The only thing left was those applications i installed e.g adium, iworks, microsoft office 2008 etc..
I checked my hard disk space. There is 130 gb free space. Initially, I only had about 40 gb of free space left. I downloaded 3rd party software- StellarPheonix to recovery my data, but unfortunately, they are no where to be found.
It's kind of a rare problem. Helpdesk personnel told me i might have deleted ALL my documents. How would it be possible to click on 1 button and all my documents on my desktop, files, videos, musics and pictures all gone.(They are located at different folders)
The only thing they told me is that only time machine can help to retrieve make all my data.
I was rather disappointed with my macbook pro

I recommend you follow their suggestion. Restore from your Time Machine backup.
    1. Boot with the installation disk
    2. Accept the language window
    3. Click on Utilities/Restore from backup
    4. Select a backup from the list
This will restore everything on your computer at the time of the backup.
    Have a nice day.

  • All events wiped out!

All the events and to-do's on my iCal have been deleted! There is a file in user/library/logs called iCalErrorDump-url-092008T135007 -- but I'm not able to import it into iCal. Please help! How do I restore all the events and to-do's?

Okay! I figured this one out. In case the solution will help someone else:
I opened the error dump file in Text Editor, eliminated the last (and incomplete) calendar entry, added the end tag for the calendar file (which I copied after exporting the calendar data for a new calendar I constructed and opening that in Text Editor), saved it as a file with the .ics extention. And iCal accepted this new file as an import, restoring all the data!

  • Help! I reinstalled iTunes following apple instruction because my pc was not recognising my new iPad. I have lost all iTunes contents. If I sync my iPhone with my pc now will it all be wiped out?

Help! My new iPad would not sync with my pc. I followed apple instructions and reinstalled iTunes, but was gutted to find it wiped all my tunes, pictures and audiobooks. My iPhone still has everything stored- what do I do now? J

If you have non-itunes music on your computer still, you should have no problem relocating them and reuploading to itunes.

  • All Addresses Wiped Out - Where Are They?

My wife is a new Mac user, with a nice, new Core Duo iMac. She's been busy populating all her applications with data.
She has not been busy backing up.
Last night, she was adding addresses to Address Book 4.0.3 (Build 477.6). She got tired of using the "add to address book" command, so she created an empty group in Address Book and dragged a number of highlighted addresses from a Mail message to the empty folder.
Dragging one address at a time worked.
Dragging sixty together crashed Address Book and all other open applications. After force-quitting Address Book, all the new addresses were gone (of course)- but so were all the old ones.
There was also an interesting, new (to me) Finder crash - the Dock animation was frozen, while the cursor was working fine.
All of her Address Book data, Groups and Names, is gone. Is there a place to look for this data?

Actually, after I posted to your question I found several more strings with the same general discussion. No answers, however. Look under the addressbook category

  • HELP!! all songs wiped out but still on HD

just synced photos for the first time, got em loaded in and everything seemed fine...then i tried hooking the ipod back to the computer and said it was unable to read the ipod and it needed to be reset to factory options...
i tried a few other things, including reset....i then updated itunes...now it recognizes the ipod but all my music is GONE!!!! the photos are still there but nothing in the music folder...HOWEVER, itunes says the ipod is half full (30GB ipod) and when i browse thru the windows folders, all of the music files are there, but they just don't show up in itunes or on the ipod menu.....PLEASE HELP as we're leaving on vacation tomorrow morning and this was going to be our saving grace to entertain the kids while in the plane!!!!!
    PC   Windows XP Pro

It would appear that the iPod hard drive or iPod software has become corrupt. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod reports used space and iTunes may show them.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.

  • IOS 6 update, and data being wiped out on apps...

I just updated my phone last night and all the photos that were in a private photo album app all got wiped out. I have been doing regular backups to iCloud, and all app data is supposed to be stored there, but I don't know how to get the data back? Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

This isn't an itunes app. I thought this was the icloud discussion group.

  • 2.0.1 Wiped out Applications

    Hello, all!
I recently upgraded to 2.0.1 because of all the crashes I got in Apps in 2.0.0. However, this wiped out a good number of my apps, and left another unable to startup. I lost about 10 apps (one of which was a pay app, the game Vay) on the update, and the one that crashes is a pay app (BeatMaker, which I started to get really into before it killed itself). These apps show up in my iTunes under Applications, and are authorized for my iPod Touch. All except BeatMaker were bought via the App Store on the iPod. "Re-buying" the free apps reinstalls them, but I don't want to have to spend the money on pay apps again.

I've had the same exact problems. I had bought over $100 of apps, and it seems as though those of us with a lot of apps are having major issues. I'm currently working on my 5th restore in 1.5 days, and if this restore doesn't work, I'm going to play street hockey with it.
As for "re-buying", go ahead and choose to buy the "already purchased" apps, it will eventually give you a dialog box that says "you've already purchased this app, press ok to download it again free".

  • Mac OS and Application Settings Wiped Out

    Hi folks,
I shut down my MBP earlier today and started it up this evening to find that all of my desktop settings, system settings, application settings, and desktop/dock icons are all gone and set to default. It's like I'm using an entirely new profile. I have checked to see if my home directory is renamed and it isn't. All of my normal icons are within <user>/Desktop. I have one application in particular called SofToken which is critical to me being able to VPN into work, and the settings for it are wiped out...the only way for me to fix that is to be physically connected to the corporate network which isn't an option right now. So for work purposes (which is what this laptop is for), I'm hosed.
I have tried a simple reboot. Tried repairing permissions (with a reboot). I don't have a time machine backup (yes, shame on me).
I've googled this extensively and have found a number of similar questions with no definitive answers. Surely someone knows what the deal is and how to fix it. I'm not a Mac OS wizard, as I'm a recent convert from a life long addiction to Windows.
I have not installed a program or an update for DAYS, so it should not be that.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

I figured this out. Somehow the home directory for my account got changed to /. Not really sure how that happened, but once I changed it back to /Users/<username> all my settings came back. A note for anyone trying to figure out if this happened to you...right click on your blank desktop and click "Get Info". The location under "Where" will tell you where the Desktop folder is located on your hard drive. If it isn't /Users/<your_username> there is a good chance your account's home directory got changed. To fix, go into System Preferences>Accounts>Right Click your Account and go under Advanced Options to change the home directory. If the blank desktop is under /Users/<your_username> then your original home directory likely got renamed.
Once my settings came back, however, the Desktop was still blank. I had an empty Desktop folder in / from my messed up home directory, and I couldn't delete it through Finder. So a quick trip to terminal and a
    sudo su root
    cd /
    rm -r Desktop
then a logout and login and my Desktop was back to it's normal self.

  • How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

  • All data in iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, iCal, iMovie, etc has been wiped out.

All of the pictures, music, emails, etc has been wiped out in all of our applications. The only thing that wasn't wiped out was our documents. When you click on the applications it goes to what it looks like when you are first setting up your computer. After that, everything is gone. The only thing different we have done with our computer was update Safari. Any idea what happened?

Bee may be onto something. Losing the home folder has been known to happen spontaneously. These are directions if this has been done deliberately, but which you might want to use to troubleshoot your situation. It may be worth a try.

Though i am still gona try using the same Itunes. Will same Itunes support two apple ids.
That depends on what you mean. If you mean two iTunes Store accounts, no. Only one Apple ID can be logged into the iTunes Store at a time and if automatic download, iTunes Match or re-downloading of content is used the ID can not be changed for 90 days.

So i guess if i solve my goof up on creating different apple IDs and setting her phone as a new one .. according to you that shall do the trick.
But i have a question here in that case what happens to all the applications that have been purchased on my Id ? Wont i be needing them to be purchased/downloaded again in the new id?
If you previously had been using the same Apple ID for iTunes Store purchases for both of you there is no reason to change what you've been doing. If this is your wife's first iPhone, and you want to share the iTunes Store account just don't use the new Apple ID you created. As long as there are no purchases on it there's nothing to worry about.

My iPod Touch is running on ios 7. In the last two and a half all the apps of my iPod have been suddenly wiped out twice. I had to download all the apps all over again. Why has it happened?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
