All Applications Crash Constantly

I have had my MacBook Pro for about probably close to a year now. Most often, whenever I open an application such as Safari, iTunes or Word the application will crash once I try to click on a link, play a song or write a paper. Sometimes once an application crashes once, It will crash instantly if I try to reopen it. I always get those "Application quit unexpectedly" reports where I have the option of ignoring the problem, sending a bug report to Apple or relaunching the program, most of the time I will try to relaunch it, but within seconds it will crash again.
This week is finals week for the quarter, I am working overtime at my job, I need some help. I cannot study, research or write anything for school with my Mac acting this way. It is extremely frustrating to have to rewrite paragraphs in a paper because word keeps crashing.
Please, any help would be most appreciated.

I think you have a serious problem, I hope you have backed up your hard disk. If not, do so immediately!!!! If you do not have an external HD, buy one and back up using carbon copy cloner or superduper. This will take some time. If the backup fails, then you really only have one choice if the HD contains critical material: send it to a service like disksavers, which, while very expensive, is also very good.
If the backup succeeds, then wIth you HD backed up, boot from your system dvd while holding down the "d" key. That will put you in hardware test mode. Run the hardware test and see if you get any error messages.
Error messages = take to Apple store or call Applecare. Do you have Applecare? If not, and you have had the MBP for less than one year, BUY IT NOW!!!
If no error message, then go with diskwarrior or techtool. Techtool pro comes for free with AppleCare, so don't buy it twice.
Good luck!

  • All applications crash when printing

The problem mysteriously began to appear about a week after installing 10.4.11 with a couple of printers. Cannot resolve after performing "Reset Printing System", repairing permissions, running 10.4.11 Combo Update. Now crashes every time I print to any printer.
The problem occurs when Print is selected from File menu - the Mac quits the application. This occurs in all applications with all printers.
    Any ideas?

    Hello doctor:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I think I would reinstall OS X 10.4.11 using the combo updater. Something apparently went amiss the first time around.

  • All applications crashing, even Finder. EXEC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) / KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000000

So recently I installed Flavours, its an application that changes the appearance of Finders windows, all that jazz. I uninstalled it and reverted back to regular looking Finder. Signed out and logged back in, now nothing opens. Spotify, Chrome, Steam, all my games, even Finder. My most used apps just won't open. Whenever I click on the Finder icon. The toolbar at the top disappears and then reappears. I'm currently writing this from another computer, cause of course I cant open Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
I cannot post the crash report but here's a small section I saw floating around on some forums.
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
Its the same for every app, I would love a solution to this. So please help.
    Thanks

IInstalling system haxies is usually never a good idea. Try restarting while Holding Command-R and reinstall OS X.

  • All applications crash on launch

Since the update to 2.0.1, all of my apps crash within a few seconds of launching them. I have tried, deleting them and reinstalling with no luck. A restore also didn't do the trick. A fresh app that I bought a few minutes ago, which is completely new to the iPhone since the update, also crashes. Any guidance to getting this problem solved. (It seems as if the update is causing several problems with users, so I appologize if I sound like a broken record. I was unable to find any other threads with this problem.)
    -Wess

I'm having the same problem, with an interesting twist. I'd been using my iPhone 3G at my office (with Wi-Fi) all day with no problems. I went out to a restaurant where only Edge was available. None of my seven or eight third-party applications would work. They'd launch, then immediately crash and dump me back at the home screen. Every single one. ALL the built-in applications worked fine, however.
When I returned to my office I tried again with the same results. The AppStore notified me that there was an update available for one of my third-party apps (Stanza). I downloaded it and after installation all of the other third party apps miraculously began to work perfectly once again.
There's something really screwed up here and I hope Apple can find a fix.

  • All applications crashing!

on my brother's powerbook G4, i was updating the new Mac OS X Combined update and it took too long. so i decided to stop it and only update iWeb and Quicktime just 5 minutes ago. after the restart, my brother decided to go surf the web, but it just crashed. when the report window popped up, he clicked report but that crashed too. after a while i tried software update, disk utility, and dashboard; but they all reacted the same way. my brother is in college is has school tomorrow so can anyone help me out here???

A typical consultant runs anywhere from $75 to $150/hr. You are paying them to resolve your issues for you, and have the resources at hand to achieve that. Such preparation takes a lot of time, continuing education, and financial resources to stock and maintain their toolset. Yes, I am one, so I am biased.
If you don't feel there is any data worth salvaging, then clearly things are simple. A competent consultant or repair shop should be able to determine what OS you have on the machine, and restore a clean copy for you to restart your Mac experience. Or you may change your mind, and they would help you restore your applications and data if it becomes important.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro, all application crash.

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, which the original version was 10.6, now upgraded to maverick. I had no problems with it until 2 days ago it started.
EVERYTHING crashed. Safari. Firefox. Skype. iTunes. EVEN finder. It only crash if i type something in the search bar. Like in safari, the website bar, if i type there something, it will freeze for 1 sec and crash. Same with firefox. Finder, if i type something in file searcher bar, it crash, causing the icons to disappear, and be back in 2 seconds. Even my games crash often. Like 30s - 2 hours each crash. I am now desperate because I can't use my Mac without typing anything. Also, top-right corner, where the wifi and things there has moved to the right, and cannot be seen expect for my hamachi icon there. What the fck is going on.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • All Applications crash when I try to print (2)

I have and epson EPL-6200L b/w laser printer and an epson 1270. the 1270 s fine. the 6200 crashes EVERY application, from text edit to adobe inDesign. In text edit, I can open the 'page setup' dialog box and edit, but clicking the 'print' button causes a crash (if I change the default printer to the 1270, it will open the dialogue box, but crash when I select the 6200L). The message I get is "the problem may have been caused by the EPSONPagePDE plug-in" (verbatim). In console, it shows a bus error.
    18/11/2008 17:19:47 com.apple.launchd122 (0x0-0x39039.com.apple.TextEdit402) Exited abnormally: Bus error
    I have deleted the epson folder; reinstalled the driver from a fresh download;
reset the printing system in the print & fax preferences.
I have also typed the following in the terminal window (based on another post):
    rm -rf ~/.lpoptions ~/.cups
    …and this:
    1. Go to Terminal
    2. Test the permissions on your temp folder by typing:
    touch $TMPDIR/foo
    3. It will say 'permission denied'. (it didn't say this for me)
    4. Change the permissions on your temp folder by typing:
    sudo chmod 775 $TMPDIR
You will need to enter your password.
None of this has made a difference. Anyone have a suggestion?

You could try removing the EpsonPagePDE plugin from /Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/GD2/PDE/ or renaming it. You may lose some functionality, but it shouldn't crash.
This crash could be because of missing string or something similar, so reinstalling the driver wouldn't help unless there is an update that contains a fix.
If after trying this you are still crashing, please post the entire crash log.

  • All Applications Crash

Hi, maybe someone here can help me out. Let me first explain the situation.
A couple weeks ago, my hard drive failed. Thankfully, I had everything still intact via Carbon Copy Cloner with a bootable backup on my external hard drive. CCC created this backup through a file-level transfer (as opposed to a block-level transfer), and now that the time has finally come to use this backup for survival, I have an issue.
While yes, the hard drive is working and the OS is booting perfectly, any application I open will crash. This is everything from the Applications folder to Utilities... it doesn't matter where it's located it won't open. I tried installing a couple applications from their disk images to see if I could get around it, and while they would go through Installer, I couldn't open after they'd be put on the hard drive.
Whenever I attempt to open a program, it briefly opens, and then crashes, leaving the usual crash report dialog. The more detailed analysis states the following (as in the case of Safari):
    Process: Safari (613)
    Path: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
    Identifier: com.apple.Safari
    Version: 3.1 (5525.13)
    Build Info: WebBrowser-55251300~1
    Code Type: X86 (Native)
    Parent Process: launchd (137)
    Date/Time: 2008-06-13 05:08:42.673 -0500
    OS Version: Mac OS X 10.5.2 (9C7010)
    Report Version: 6
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x000000003a223610
    Crashed Thread: 6
The report then goes into a long series of Threads...
So does anyone have any suggestions for me to make this bootable copy actually useable?
    Thanks.

How much space disk space do you have?
How much stuff do you need to move over? (Obviously, minimise this since the less you move over, the less likely you are to move the problem over, too.)
    One way:
    1) create new account in Accounts pane of System Preferences (do not log in as root!)
    2) drop whatever you need to move into the Drop Box of the new account
    3) log in to the new account and move things to the places you need them to be
    4) see how things go
    5) everything looks OK? delete your old account from the Accounts pane.
You'll change UID number and you'll need to choose a different short user name if you use this method. The advantage of this is that you can keep trying out applications in the new account as you move things into position. It is, on the other hand, a method that requires enough free space on disk and involves a good deal of mucking around. Also some things cannot be copied over in this way - mail springs to mind, and maybe things like music. It would work well if most of your stuff is in Documents, for example.
    Another way:
    1) backup the contents of your home directory e.g. to an external drive
    2) double-check the integrity of that backup
    3) move the contents of the top level folders in your home directory elsewhere
    4) restart (force the system to recreate crucial user files)
    5) move back what you need.
You should back everything up first whatever you do. Moving these things around can cause issues in itself. The trouble is, you don't want to copy everything because you'll (presumably) copy the problem. But you don't know what not to copy (if you did, you'd just delete that). So creating as clean an account as possible and moving stuff over gradually is likely the best bet. I think the first method is better and safer - it ensures a completely clean account. Any method which recreates an account with the same short name and user id risks carrying over problems from that account.
At least, that's what I'd think. Get some ideas from other people. I don't have much experience dealing with this sort of issue - you shouldn't start moving things like this just because I suggest it, for sure...

  • All APPLICATIONS CRASH WHEN AN ALERT BOX POPS UP! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP!

When any alert box pops up (e.g. Reseting Safari, Changing an extention in Finder) The application that sent the alert crashes within a few seconds. I do not know how this happened, but it is very annoying and harmful to what i am working on. I think this started a few days ago, and the only thing that i think might of caused it is Google earth, which i just installed. I tried disk utility (on and off the CD), to no avail. This is not restricted to any particular program, and crashes everthing. Please, For the Love Of God Help!!!!!!
I have Safari 1.3.2 (if it helps)

    Hi--
Try this: go to the System Preferences and look at the "Speech" preference pane. Make sure everything is turned off in the "Spoken User Interface" tab. Especially the "Speak the Alert Text".
If that's not it, open up your Console application from the Utilities folder. Click on the "Logs" icon at the top left until you see a listing of folders on the left side. Click the triangle next to ~/Library/Logs to reveal some sub-folders. One should be called "CrashReporter". Open it and click on one of the crash logs. Each one should have a section like this:
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 <<00000000>> 0xfffeff10 objcmsgSendrtp + 16
    1 com.apple.Foundation 0x928aa9d0 -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:] + 164
    2 MyController.ob 0x0003fba0 +[MyController initialize] + 240 (MyController.m:16)
3 libobjc.A.dylib 0x909c0670 class_initialize + 300Copy and paste the crashed thread here and maybe we can figure out what common thing is crashing.

  • All apps crashing constantly and very slow performance

Ever since the last major upgrade on my iphone (3G), I have been having progressively worse issues of crashing of all apps, including Mail, Maps, Safari and iTunes, as well as third party apps, as well extremely slow performance. Yesterday I tried for 5 minutes to load Maps and it kept crashing or freezing up.

Thanks yes, I did restore and things did improve, but it's still slower than it was before and I've put far less on it than was before.

  • Mac OSX Leopard  -  Applications Crash constantly - Relaunch ****

Question - why do so many of my applications "quit" on me after launching? Mostly Mail, or iChat, and Safari... What the HECK is going on? I have plenty of memory - I think...

have you done a disk repair and a permissions repair?

  • All application crashes on my i touch ios 6.1.2

what should i do? anyone who experience this problem? please help! thanks!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Every application crashes when i try to print from it!

Hello everyone, i have an HP 1012 laserjet and it was working perfectly fine until i installed all the updates for the ILife and everything else that came out earlier this week. Anyone know what is going on??

I had the same problem as well. All applications crashed when I tried to print.
I found the solution at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=199701&highlight=printing+crash.
What I ended up doing was to delete the system's printer drivers (located in Macintosh HD > Library > Printers), then re-installing them from install disk one (optional install). This was suggested by "mad jew" on macrumors, and worked for "EricNau" (using 10.4.6 on iMac G5 17") as well as myself (using 10.4.6 on MBP 17"). Hope it works for you as well.

  • Applications crash when attempting to use network printer

I just upgraded to Tiger. Now, all applications crash when I attempt to select my network printer (HP laserjet 4600) from the 'File' ->'Print' menu. If the network printer is selected as my default printer, the program closes before the print menu even comes up. However, I can print to this printer if it is my default printer and I use the print icon instead of 'File'->'Print'. I also have a USB printer (Lexmark) which I can print to no problem. I can print to all printers with no problems from Classic applications, and I had no problems printing from either Classic or OS X before upgrading to Tiger. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you run Disk Utility> Repair Permissions after installing the HP driver software? While Repair Permissions may no longer be a useful as it was as a generic troubleshooting step under OS X 10.2.x, it's still essential if you have any third-party software that requires an administrative password to install, especially HP or Adobe software, which are known to trample around placing files with mis-set permissions all over the place.
