All attachments download as "attachment.ashx".

I use Outlook Web App through the sweerver of my home university, and I am running Mac with System 10.6.8 and Firefox 9.0. Since installing Firefox 8.0 I receive e-mails fine but if I try to download any attachments, either by clicking on the link of the attachment or by right-clicking and selecting "save link as", Fireforx will always download a generic file "attachment.ashx", and I have to rename it on the desktop. Other browsers wirf fine, so the problem is obviously with Firefox.

"I solved the problem--I downloaded Google Chrome to use instead of Firefox. "
This is rather knee jerk but after reading through all the posts on bug forums and such, the following is clear to me:
* Microsoft is not following RFC standards
* Mozilla Firefox developers are too busy trying to conforms to standards that nobody is following and are forgetting that without users they have no jobs
I honestly didn't want it to come to this but I really don't need to be fucking with the registry, the browser, or (worse) waiting for a rollback on conformance due to this meth-induced death-march of FF browser versioning. That's for open sores users, not the rest of the population.
Goodbye Firefox, it's been a great 9 years but I don't have time for this anymore. Chrome is my new home.

  • Suddently yesterday all file types are downloaded as "attachment.ashx" instead of pdf or doc or whatever.

I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

Firefox 9.0 will revert the 8.0 changes, waiting for a definitive fix from Microsoft: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703015

  • Files always download as "attachment.ashx" instead of the file name and file type that they actually are.

Since I have installed the new version of Firefox (version 8.0), every single file I download is downloaded as "attachment.ashx" and won't open. I have to change the name as well as the file type in order to open the document.
This happens regardless of if I'm downloading from email, from a website, etc.. All of the files I have downloaded also have already been named and had file types appended, but Firefox is changing them every single time. I have never had this problem before using the same sites and downloads.

Please hurry up with a solution! This is causing havoc, as I cannot open any attachments at all! It defaults to Adobe Photoshop, and then I get an error message that it is the wrong type of file. These are all Word docs! I can't get my work done! Is there some kind of work around that I can use in the meantime to open these things?

  • Name/type of downloaded email attachments is changed to attachment.ashx or something similar

I access an email account at the site below which provides Microsoft Outlook Web access. Since the last Firefox update to version 8.0, the true name/type of email attachments that I download is changed to attachment.ashx (or attachment1.ashx etc if there are several downloaded files. This is very inconvenient. Note that the problem does not exist when downloading attachments from aol.com. There is also no problem when I use IE as browser. Version/system details below are correct.

Outlook Web Access sends an illegal Content-Dispositon header to Firefox. This is no longer allowed in Firefox 8. Firefox 9 will have a workaround for this so that Microsoft has time to fix their software.<br>

  • Email attachments download as ashx for Microsoft Outlook, instead of jpg, pdf, doc, etc. Tried to fix in Preferences Applications but still doesn't work.

Using MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Downloaded Firefox 8 on 11/9/11 and now Microsoft Outlook Web App 2010 downloads all email attachments as "attachment.ashx" instead of jpg, pdf, etc. This was not a problem with previous Firefox releases which I've been using for the past couple of years. Can open files if I edit the extension to the proper variety (ashx to jpg for example), but no longer initially automatically opens. Instead I first get a "can't open this file" message.  Attempted to fix in Firefox > Preferences > Applications by indicating the proper "Actions" for various "Content Types" but this had no effect. Chrome and Safari browsers still work properly. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I'm sorry you are having this problem, here is another post about the same problem, where the cause of the problem is described:

  • All excel attachment files in Outlook web app (email) are renamed "attachment.ashx", losing their original file names. Why? And how do I fix this?

While the email displays the attachment with the "original file name.xls", when I click and download, it is called "attachment.ashx", and I lose all the original downloaded file names. This started happening about 3 weeks ago after a Firefox update. Suggestions for a fix?

Outlook Web Access sends illegal Content-Disposition headers and this is no longer allowed in Firefox 8. The server needs to be fixed.

  • Download All attachments feature for OWA is unavavilable.

    Hi,
Is it me or is the feature "download all attachments" removed from exchange 2013 CU6 Outlook web app.  It was available on the exchange 2010 OWA.  I realize this when many users complained that they have to download each attachment.
    Thanks

Yeah it looks like it was quietly removed, I am running on CU7 and its not available. But it looks like its back on O365 so maybe CU8 or higher will add it back to on premise.

  • Download all attachments

It appears that the "download all attachments" button from owa 2010 has been removed in 2013... Is this on purpose? Or will it be coming back in a patch? I have very frustrated users that are annoyed by the functionality in 2013 vs. 2010. Anyone
in the know have any idea on this? Thanks!

    Yep you are right.
Its not there anymore. This feature became available with Exchange 2010 SP1.
However, its removed from Exchange 2013. Maybe someone forgot it :) . Hopefully it will become available again with future updates.

  • Apple mail in mountain lion cannot download many attachment (corrupt)

I have the same problem on all my macs, and also my friends. That includes:
    - MacBook Pro 17"
    - MacBook Pro 13"
    - MacBook 13"
The problem is that almost every email attachment is corrupt. It means it can in most cases not be opened, except for photos and then they just show some grey area where it's not loaded.
    - that all attachment can perfectly be opened on all my iOS devices. 2x iPhone 4, 1x iPad1, 1x iPad2, ipad4, 2x iPhone5
    - the problem accures with many files types, but PDF, excel, png, jpg, doc, igs are some I have tried.
I think the problem comes from slow or irregular internet speed. Obviously that should not be an issue and isnt with any other mail program.
This problem is so bad that I'm thinking of switching the mail app as its basically useless. I tried thunderbird and all attachments were loading properly. But it had other issues.
I found a solution that works around this to at least work. Its still not solving it, but at LEAST i can get the mails attachments and work with them, rather than having to forward the mail from my iphone.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/answers/how_to_fix_corrupted_imap_attachments_in_ apple_mail/
Basically 2 solutions: I prefer option 2, as it can be done fast and each time the issue happens.
    1) click the mailbox that has the issues
go to Mailbox in the status and click "Rebuild"
This will re-download all mails. its a bit overkill, but it works.
I've tried this and it also does not download the mails correct. In the end it just shuffles which mails are loaded this time.
    2) create a new mailbox inside the main IMAP mailbox account
move or copy the message with the broken attachment there
now do option 1) only for this mailbox
then move the repaired message back.
Same this still not guarantee the attachment.
    Such a stupid issue!!!!!

    Dear All,
its driving me mental!!! Its now almost every mail attachment that does not load correct! there must be something that can be done.
I also am not the only one.
    Please help.

  • Downloading a attached file

    Hi,
I am implmenting a jsp screen that search for instances.
When the user finds the searched instance, he can see all the instance variables. In order to do that I have implemented another JSP that shows the variables.
But, the instances have attachment. So, I need to show all attachments to the user and the user should be able to download these attachments.
So, are there some way that allow me to put in JSP a link to a instances´ attchments ?
    Thanks a lot
    Marcos

    Hi Ruben,
I have tried to implement the global activity with instance access. But, when I make in this way, the access to the global activity in the workspace is changed. I mean that the link that was shown in the left side of the screen goes to the line of the instance.
    Is there another way?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Why do I have to download an attachment (lets say a picture) in my email each time I read the email?

Why do I have to download an attachment (lets say a picture) in my email each time I read the email? When I have an internet connection, then it is not a problem with the exception of using the data plan and if the file is larger then it takes more time but when I don't have internet and I need to see the attachment...
    Thank You

On the menubar, select Mail > Preferences > Accounts tab > select the mail account on the left > Advanced tab > Keep copies of messages for offline viewing: > set to All messages and their attachments.
You need to do this for each of your mail accounts.

  • How do I create a pdf portfolio from multiple .msg email files including all attachments in a single step process?

I have tried creating the portfolio from Outlook directly, but only the first email is viewable in the portfolio including a hyperlink to the attachment (but the attachment is missing otherwise). This seems to be a setting issue, but I have had no luck with finding any setting options to change this.
I have also tried to create a portfolio from my desktop but when opening the portfolio, nothing shows up as if it didn't take the .msg files.
The obvious option of creating a pdf from each individual email and combining it with the pdf attachment would take forever and is unrealistic as the emails are in thousands.
Thanks for your time and help on this issue!

    Hey Bob%20Sacks,
Could you please specify what version of Acrobat are you using.
You can go to Preferences under Adobe PDF option in the menu bar and choose 'Include all attachments' option under Attachments label.
Then, select the desired messages in Outlook and create a PDF portfolio by right-clicking and choosing Convert to Adobe PDF option from the context menu.
Now, open the portfolio and it will appear as shown in the screenshot below:
You can view all your files by clicking on the navigation arrows on the left-hand side.

  • All attachments opening as plain text

Apparently without any changing of settings the mail program is opening all attachments as plain text. This occurs although the program is available to open the attachment. I know the attachments can be saved to the desktop and then opened, but this causes clutter and many attachments are not worthy of saving. Any suggestions on restoring the mail program to seeking the proper application to match the attachment. I have tried searching all the menus and cannot get View>message>best alternative to be highlighted and selectable. Thank you for any suggestions.

''re: not displaying any incoming messages with html.''
Do you have this setting ?

  • Attachments download in OAF

    Hi,
I have a table in one of the OAF page in the application. For each row in the table there can be multiple attachments stored in the FND_LOBS table. I wanted to show all the attachments for a row in a column. Is it possible? Can someone please give some input on how to achieve this?
    regards,
    Ram

               Hi Ram ,
It is possible , you have to change the query associated to the table region , you have to create pl/sql function and call
that function in your query ( VO) attached to the table region . Follow the steps
1 )  To Create function : Identify the primary key column , on passing this primary key value your function should return all attachments as a variable ,
you may use any separator depending on how to wish to display all the attachments as a single value .
2 )  Use this function in your VO query :  your query should look something like below
               Select primary_col , col2 , col3 , xx_function(primary_col) as all_attachment from xx_table ;
Now your new column all_attachment will return all the attachments as a variable which you can show up on the OAF screen .
Let me know if you have any questions / if you need further input .
              Regards ,
              Keerthi
