All Browsers Crashing in 10.4.11 ?!?!
is there any quick fix - I have a G5 Dual 2.7 Power PC running 10.4.11 & all of the sudden certain pages are crashing - I've downloaded newest flash & repaired permissions in my disk utility -
Ive heard of doing this repair permissions after booting to a certain disc? any help appreciated , I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5 perfectly !! frustrating , thx
OK, I was reading another crashing report about 10.4.11 and found this comment:
... I asked for the crash log, ... and the very first thing I observed is that he's using several "haxies" - Mighty Mouse, LCC Scroll Enhancer, and the Application Enhancer framework. (These are visible in /Library/Application Enhancers.) So my initial recommendation was, let's at least try uninstalling these and then try again. Again, it might be a red herring, but with these things present, rational testing is made much more difficult, and it can't hurt to eliminate them temporarily as part of the investigation procedure.
I went to /library/application enhancers and found a file called LCC Scroll Enhancer.ape. I have no clue what it is or how it got there, but when I pulled it out on the desktop and deleted it from the library folder, Excel worked. At least right now.
In answer to the previous question about what version of Excel I have, that is a long story by itself. I had the version, Office 2004, rev...11.3. I kept getting notices to update it, but they were all about security, not functionality, so I ignored them. When this mess happened with Excel, I decided to update to the latest rev. ...11.9. It turns out I had to apply almost every update from ..11.3 forward, I could not just apply ..11.9. It took all afternoon, and of course, it didn't fix anything.
If this haxie fix holds, I am happy.

Satellite P200 - all Browsers Crashes after 5 to 20 mins
I am now losing the will to live with this laptop.
Satellite P200-13z with Vista 32bit
The issue is this... no matter what browser I use it will freeze and hang. Opera, IE and Firefox. Sometimes it will be good and work for 20 mins, sometimes it will crash in 5 mins.
I have updated my drivers, done clean re-installs of the OS, tested my RAM, shut down all but MS services, increased virtual memory, prayed to various germanic gods.
I have Avast and Zone Alarm running alone from Non MS services. I may shut them down and see what happens but not sure it will be the cause.
I am of the opinion it may be memory related and the way it is handled, possible aligned with Adobe Flash (spit). Maybe a Vista issue.
Uninstalling that curse (Flash) does not seem to fix the issue either.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? 18 months I have been trying to fix this... and now I need the laptop fulltime it needs to be fixed.
It isn't an isolated problem either, google search 'all browser crash vista' to see what is happening out there, and a comple lack of knowledge or solution for this issue.
Many thanks in advance for some support. Thanks Andrej
By crash, the browser locks up and freezes. I can close firefox for example, but am unable to restart it or kill the process.
I have seen it happen on Mozilla Filezilla and browsers only.
I should have done it while under warranty, but unable to do that now. I just assumed it was a flash issue and would have been fixed under a future update. Also due to the number of people getting the same issue problem, assumed it wasn't the laptop.
Would you know what kinda reports I would need to post so folk can see what is happening under the hood so to speak? -
All browsers crashing in Snow Leopard!
I've been trying for a while now to send an e-mail through my Google Apps account and every time it will crash on me at some point. After many attempts I have the draft written, the recipient e-mail address saved, the subject saved and now I'm trying to attach a PDF.
I thought it might be the new Safari in Snow Leopard so I switched to Firefox. Same issues. I thought it might have something to do with running the 1Password 3 beta so I grabbed Chromium. Same issues. I even tried Opera to no joy. I'm a web designer, I have lots of browsers. I'm also running the latest versions of each so there shouldn't be any glaring Snow Leopard incompatibilities.
The only plugin I was running with in Safari was 1Password and given that neither Chromium nor Opera supports it I don't believe it's that.
I also shut down every single program except Text Edit to see if something was interfering. Didn't help.
I repaired disk permissions. A bunch of Flash Player issues popped up but the problem persisted even after they were repaired.
Any program that in any way effects anything on my system has been turned off yet they all keep crashing! I don't know why. There's nothing I can think of that all four browsers have in common! Help! And I chose to address the Safari part of the thread as it works fine on my system.
I don't use Opera or Firefox and Google Chrome was in Beta stage for Mac the last time I looked (so can't really be considered bug free).
Firefox has a similar underlying code to Safari (which is why some sites state you are running Mozilla / Netscape / Firefox when in fact you are running Safari). Opera (at least on the Windows side) identifies or emulates Internet Explorer / Safari / Netscape / Mozilla /Firefox for compatibility reasons with certain sites and plug ins.
If these browsers are all identifying themselves as basically the same thing, there may be a common shared library of plug ins. If it is a Safari plug in the other browsers are using, the same issue may be replicated on all browsers, hence I suggested clearing cache and resetting Safari.
The other possibility is Opera and Firefox are not Snow Leopard compatible.
I did understand the original post jmd1033, but I'll make sure I check with you before making any further suggestions. -
All browsers crash when uploading photos!
Hi,
I've had a problem for a while now which is getting really annoying: both Firefox (latest version) and Internet Explorer "unexpectedly quit" instantly as soon as I try to upload photo files. This happens as soon as I click any 'browse' button (to upload files) on any webpage.
I used to be able to get my files online by using Safari instead, but today it began to crash too, in exactly the same way! I tried clearing Safari preferences, etc. as an experiment, but it didn't help.
A possibly unrelated but equally mysterious problem has also cropped up recently involving my passwords - first my banking website, and now Shutterfly, have started rejecting my (correct) password several times before they will accept it and let me in! And yes, I'm sure I'm typing it correctly.
Both these problems seem to be getting worse, and I now have no way of uploading anything to the web. Could this be some sort of virus? (I thought such things didn't exist in Macland...
I'm reluctant to just upgrade to the latest Mac OS in case it has other problems... and I certainly don't want to do it unless it will solve my browser issues!
If anyone has any advice, I would be most grateful.
cheers from Down Under,
ashlingirlHi there, and thanks so much for tackling my strange problems! I'll try to answer your questions point by point - I am more or less computer literate, but once we hit the technical stuff I usually leave it to my programmer husband. Unfortunately, he's overseas on business right now, so I'll have to hack this one myself. So here we go:
Hi,
To understand what's going on here, we'll probably
have to know a bit about your network. (Passwords can
be cached; the browsers could be timing out; there
could be many reasons why you're seeing what you're
seeing.)
First, however, there are no viruses for Mac OS X.
What you are seeing therefore cannot be a virus.
Second, let's take a look at your network. How do you
connect? Are you on a LAN? Wifi? Are other people on
your network with you?
We have a wireless LAN in our house, with broadband DSL Net access (using a Netgear router). My Mac, however, is hooked directly into the router - my husband just uses the wireless functionality for his laptop. No one outside our family uses the network, and as I said my husband is away at the moment, so my computer is the only one online.
Third, could you describe what happens when your
password is rejected? There's a difference between a
quick rejection and one that takes a long time,
because the latter could be a time-out.
The password thing is weird, because it's not consistent. Yesterday, for instance, I logged onto Firefly about 10 times in a row, because the browser kept crashing and I was trying different things to fix it. At first, it would just spit me back to the login page once (immediately, with no delay, and no error message), but then when I typed in the same password the second time, it would let me in. Which is strange enough - but by the end of my session, I couldn't get it to let me in at all, no matter how many times I tried. It would just immediately send me back to the login page, over and over again.
Fourth, have you tried an FTP client to upload
photos? (This may not be possible with the services
that you use, but I don't use them, so I don't know.)
Here's where I admit my ignorance: I don't know what an FTP client is. The main thing I'm trying to do is to upload photos to either Shutterfly.com (so my relatives in the US can view/print them easily) or eBay. Don't know whether a separate upload program would be usable in these circumstances.
I actually suspect the problem I have is with the little Java plugin that Shutterfly uses as a picture-download interface. Maybe lots of websites use similar bits of code, and that's why I'm having trouble on all of them.
But all I really know is that every time I hit a "Browse" button on any website (which normally brings up a menu showing the contents of my desktop and lets me choose files to upload), my browser dies. And this happens on Mozilla Firefox, IE, and now Safari too.
Fifth, take a look at the Console logs. The Console
app is in Applications > Utilities. It will show you
what the applications say right before they crash and
die. Also, in the Console app, you can look at the
crash log for Firefox and Safari.
I got in there, and there is certainly heaps of info: the problem is, I don't know what most of it means. Would you mind terribly if I just paste all of yesterday's activity here and see if anything jumps out at you? Here goes:

All Browsers Crash Except Safari
Hello,
Anyone have problems running other web browsers other than Safari on the MacBook Pro? I can't get any of them to work without locking up.
Once a website is clicked, a partial AFP Connection Status dialog box appears that doesn't display the name of the server it's trying to connect to. The options at that point are to click cancel and force quit the browser or wait on the next dialog box to appear (and the next and the next) until finally a dialog box appears that says the server is not valid or cannot be found and at that point the browser loads and appears to work, until you try to visit another site. Then it all starts over again.
This is frustrating the heck out of me. I've tried every other browser available and they all do the same thing...except for Safari, which works fine.
I'm stumped and haven't found anything on the web about this issue.
One possible point is that I did migrate everything (except applications) from an Aluminum Powerbook. Don't know if the problem is due to the migration or not.
Also, this happens on my login and the root login.
Any help is appreciated.
MacBook Pro 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 2GB RAM, 7200 RPM/100GB HD
MacBook Pro 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 2GB RAM, 7200 RPM/100GB HDI tried deleting those file (completely -- trash, then empty trash) and still no luck. It seems a lot more subtle than an application configuration. Especially considering that the same exact problem happens on 2 different browsers.
I did google search for the "AFP Connection Status" (the title of the dialog box that hangs the apps), and it's seems to happen with other apps as well. People are reporting it happening with MS Office, Apple's Logic pro application, and even Appleworks. All of the posts are pretty old and none mention the MacBook Pro specifically.
One poster was able to fix his problem (with Logic) by running a utility called Cocktail that cleans up all the cache files in the entire system. That solution didn't work for me.
This is very frustrating. I'm a web developer and it's essential that I test my web pages on mozilla-based browsers. Switching to Opera or another browser isn't an acceptable solution for me.
Apple Support, please help! -
All browsers crashes all the time randomly
Hello,
I encounter an issue with my all internet browsers. I recently restored my computer to the factory settings (by installing windows from the DVDs) and I have issues with the all the internet browsers. I installed all the updates and the latest browsers.
I tried to disable all add-ons with no effect. I ran the sfc, dxdiag with no results. Below you can find all the Error Events from the Windows logs of the last 5 days.
Thank you in advance,
Nicos

All browsers crashing on iMac running OSX 10.8.
I'm running OSX 10.8.3 on an iMac late 2012 and every time I open a browser, Safari, Chrome or Firefox it immediately crashes. I happened to have chromium installed which is working but that is it. I'm going to track down some error logs, but any ideas about why this is happening?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Flash 10, Windows 7 and all browsers = crash of the browser HELP
I have Win 7 Ultimate edition, did a clean install last night. I have tried Flash with IE8 32 & 64 versions, Fire Fox and Safari all with similar results.
I am trying to complete Flash Based learning lessons for work to give you an idea of what I am trying to accomplish.
the problems are as follows:
IE8- Both Versions- I can run through the entire presentation but once I click finish to close out the browser crahes and the flags are Browser and Flash
stopped working I tried the remedies windows produced for me with no results.
FireFox- Problem- The window opens and I can see the presentation but the navigation buttons have no button just the words INVALID
Safari- Problem- The presentation shows up with all navigation buttons but I am not able to click any of them, the only option that works is the windows close button
I have tried reinstalling by downloading from each different browser, I have tried a system restore to last night right after my windos install, I have tried stopping the processes in msconfig (which was a soltuion in another thread) and a few other things (nothing too technical). I asked one of the IT guys in the office about it and of course didn't have time to toubleshoot it for me before he went to lunch, his responce was dam thats wierd.
Any help from the forum would be greatly appreciated. We've been fighting this problem FOREVER!!
Why doesn't Adobe simply come out with a "Troubleshooter/Personal Settings" Inspector Program?
That way, I would start that program & it would analyze my op system, browser & version, current flashplayer being used
, and tell me the changes needed. If Adobe REALLY wanted to do it right, that program would make necessary changes "FOR US"! But, *WILL* THEY? Knowing Adobe, I DOUBT it.
If changes need to be made, it simply tells me what they are & give me links to accomplish all of it?
IS THAT SO DIFFICULT? -
Uploading pdf, jpg or png crashes ALL browsers, HELP!
Trying to upload pdfs to my work website has proved impossible without crashing the browser. This is killing me, my company is desperate for this to be resolved.
So far I have used Safari, Firefox, Camino and Opera to try to isolate the problem. ALL browsers crash when trying to upload.
It works flawlessly on my G5 Quad running 10.5.8... but my MacBook Pro — used all the time off-site — is currently a $3,000 doorstop right now.
My job is working online. Without this basic functionality I am totally screwed.
How can I downgrade to 10.5 anyone?I am having the same problem on my iMac running OS 10.6.1: browsers (particularly, Safari) crash when trying to upload photos...several apps (Adobe CS3 apps, MS Office apps, and many more) crashing when trying to save a document or image.
VERY ANNOYING.
I did some troubleshooting / tests with the help of an apple care specialist:
1)booting in safe mode and trying to upload a photo: Safari crashed.
2)same but with a different user account: problem did not occur.
3)verifying permissions resulted in a thread of some 20-30 adobe flash warnings, but repairing them did not solve the problem.
4)genius at the store looked at the crashes and suggested deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist and if that does not work do a clean install of the OS.
Below is the crash report. I'm getting this several times a day....
Has anybody found a solution to this problem? I will greatly appreciate any help.

Flash Crashes across all browsers and recent fatal errors
This problem has basicly been going on for years and my operating system has been resintalled a couple of times before but basicly the problem is that adobe flash player (and Microsoft Silverlight) would crash a browser (IE, Chrome, and Firefox) often. I have tried the fixes ive read about but they didnt seem to work so I just decided to put up with it until I began getting fatal errors. I had my hardware checked out and there are no problems with and all my drivers are up to date.
Flash: 11.5.502.135
Windows 7 (64-bit)
HD 5570 and HD 6870 (upgraded from one to the other but problem still occurs)
Like I said I usually try to put up with flash (and silverlight) crashing my browser but now they crash the browse so badly it forces a bugcheck (or blue screen of death). I have tried to reload my operating system, then updated my drivers, and then in clean boot mode I still get pretty nasty crashes. I think the problem is within one of my drivers but I cant pinpoint which driver is the culprit.

* Bugcheck Analysis *
DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (c4)
A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000091, A driver switched stacks using a method that is not supported by
the operating system. The only supported way to extend a kernel
mode stack is by using KeExpandKernelStackAndCallout.

Subject: Flash Player Flash Plug-in Crashes across all browsers despite
re-install
I support a bunch of Mac users and one of them (10.5.7 MBP) ran into this same
problem last week with both Safari and Firefox crashing with the flash player
plugin. If I removed the Flash Player plugin and the .xpt file there was no
crashing but no flash either. I used a combination of different suggestions and
here's what finally worked (so far anyway):
Show package contents for Firefox/Contents/MacOS/components and Get Info
changing perms for read/write for everyone.
Re-installed shockwave plugin using the customized full install (this made no
sense to me since I had made no change to shockwave but as I was testing the
browsers I was prompted to install it, so I did)
Repaired permissions
The version of the Flash Player plugin that ended up installed on this Mac is
10.0.12.36. I started off installing the newer and recommended 10.0.22.87
version but it didn't fix anything. I inadvertently went backwards as I moved
plugins in and out of the Library. I didn't want to change anything once it was
working so I left it at the older version. I hope this helps someone else. -
Flash Player crashes in all browsers
I have IE 8, Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 6.0 on my laptop. I have the latest version of Flash on all three. All of of a sudden, the Flash Player plugin will crash and the browser will lock up any time I open a page that uses Flash. What could be doing this?
Here are the files in the Flash folder:
Flash Player Trust
Flash10k.ocx
FlashInstall
flashplayer.xpt
FlashUtil10k_ActiveX.dll
FlashUtil10k_ActiveX
NPSWF32.dll
Version is 10.1.85.3

Subject: Flash Player Flash Player crashes in all browsers
Hi, thanks. I think we need to take a look at the Flash files.
Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash Open Flash and post back all files listed. You will need to right click on the NPSWF files and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.
Thanks,

All browsers (except Safari) crash on launch
The weirdest thing keeps happening while I'm running 10.4 on my trusty old G4 733 Tower
Firefox, IE 5.3, Omniweb -- each crashes the minute they launch. I've run Disk Permissions, updated Java, and am absolutely confused.
Even though the other browsers crash repeatedly, Safari 3-something keeps chugging along with no problem. What would cause this issue and can I fix it somehow?
Thanks. If you have not done so already, except for the keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from your computer when troubleshooting.
Update to OS 10.4.11 either from Software Update and/or from Apple's Download site. Also, from SU, download all the other software listed that pertains to the various OS updates.
Repair permissions & restart your computer.
Make sure Firefox, IE, & Omniweb are updated to their latest versions. At the moment FF seems to be updating every week or so. Afterwards again repair permissions & restart your computer prior to using the browsers.

Adobe Flash Player Plugin crashes in ALL browsers while accessing webcam
Hi,
I am struggling to get my adobe flash player plug-in working while accessing webcam.
It simply crashes in all browsers. I googled this issue and realized many users are facing this issue.
However I did not get any solution to fix this. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling plug-in multiple times but of no use.
Following are specifications:
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32 Bit) SP3
Browsers: Internet Explorer (8.0), Chrome (8.0), Mozilla Firefix (3.0)
Webcam: Dell monitor inbuilt webcam
Flash Player version: 10,1,102,64
Please note, the webcam is accessible through other applications (e.g. Yahoo! Messenger, Skype, Windows Explorer)
Also, Adobe Flash player doesn’t give any trouble while playing streaming videos on YouTube etc.
Trouble is only when flash player tries to access webcam through any browser (eg. while "Record from Webcam" on YouTube)
An interesting observation I like to note here, the device list that appears in the plug-in window is blank for both video/audio devices (See the area encircled RED in the image below)
Not sure, but just suspecting could this be potential reason for crash?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
StrugglerHello all,
My doubt was correct. It was all due to the blank device list. After lot of struggle I found this solution worked for me:
1. As soon as the plug-in tries to access webcam, it will show you "Adobe Flash Player Settings" box
2. Click Deny then Close to close it
3. Now press tab key on keyboard. It will highlight (in yellow) and show list of devices in video device dropdown control (This could be little bit tricky and you need to put little bit more efforts to see the list). You can now select your webcam as device here.
4. Press Tab key again to go audio dropdown and select audio device.
5. Then right click and bring up "Adobe Flash Player Settings" again.
6. Under Microphone and Camera tabs, make sure we select same devices we selected in 3 & 4 above
7. Come back to privacy tab and this time chose "Allow" and then close "Adobe Flash Player Settings" box
8. You should now see the camera images in the plug-in
Conclusion: This is a workaround worked for me. Plug-in is quite unstable and there is definitely something here Adobe Flash Player plug-in developers need to do about.
Hope this workaround helps many other users.
Thanks,

Flash Plug-in Crashes across all browsers despite re-install
About a week ago, my MacBook's Firefox browser started crashing whenever I checked my hotmail or Youtube, failing to load the flash content in either a banner add or the Youtube video, I uninstalled flash, and the problem went away, only now I am unable to visit youtube or access any flash content on the internet. The problem extends across browsers to Safari and despite reinstalling, trying to revert to an old flash player, even downloading the full trial version of Flash from this website on the suggestion of a tech support person from this site, I have been unsuccessful. The browser crashes whenever it comes across any flash content.
Can you help me?I left it at 10.0.12.36

Flash Player 11.6.r602 crashes in all browsers
Running on windows vista box. In all browsers I repeatedly get Flash Player crash messages, appently caused by the Data Protection Execution Protection service closing it.
I've tried turning off DEP for flash and Windows won't let me.Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.....
When dealing with such a large problem with frequent FF lockups the temptation is to lump all information in an attempt to solve. LOL
Chasing multiple threads to help solve the problem may be helpful to the developers but it takes far too much time following and posting in each thread. As you can see it's taken a couple of days to get back to this post.
First thing we did is dump cache and cookies both through the interface and then manually in the profile. We changed the version of Flash installed manually and even changed the version of FF. There are many "flash" enabled pages we encountered which caused the lockup.....so MSN is not specifically the issue.
But when Flash is removed or disabled the browser no longer locks up.....suffice to say we get an error when visiting a website with flash content on it.
That is why I chose to post here as the problem is directly attributable to Flash in FF on all of our machines.
