All buddy's OFFLINE in IChat

For some reason, and it just started happening, all my buddies are always offline. This only started happening today (SAT). It worked fine the night before, then I hopped on a plane, flew to Utah, now it doesn't work! How do I fix this? (Detailed Directions Please)

Quit iChat.
Open the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities and use the Red button to Quit and Confirm Force Quit the iChatAgent that will be still running (it does not quit when iChat does)
Repeat 7)
This group of problem that are related are caused by sudden drops by AIM of your Connection and the re-login being incorrectly recorded in the various .plists
Which .plist depends on which part or version of the problem you see.
It may also pay to check the Permissions with DIsk Utility and Possibly run something like OnyX to force the Cron Scripts

How do i transfer or export buddy list names on iChat or Aim on mac?

Hi,
If you have the AIM for Mac then you cand sign in as one Screen Name and use the Export feature to create a file of the Screen Names of that Buddy list.
(you can then sign in under a different name and import the names)
In iChat it helps if all the Buddies have Real Names or Nicknames so that they have entries in the Address Book.
You can then create Groups in the Address Book and move all the Cards into one Group.
All the names in that Group can then be selected and dragged to another AIM valid Buddy list.
I once transferred 292 names this way.
You can also login to multiple Accounts in some version of ichat and just Drag names form one list to another.
You may find with any of these methods that some Buddies appear only as Off line.
This will due to their Security Setting where they are only allowing your Original Screen Name.

When I open Mail, all accounts are offline. It takes time to get them back online. This is an on-going problem that has been chronic and it has finally gotten me "inspired" to ask the Community

When I open Mail, all accounts appear offline. I have to get back "online" before mail is delivered or sent. Hassle. Any Ideas??

I was having this same issue all week. I'm also using 10.8.5 It was driving me crazy. I think I found a solution. I downloaded and installed the latest security update from Apple in the App Store. I have not had a reoccurance since (?). Maybe that will help you as well.

That depends on where you are... In the state of New Jersey, where I live, I believe that it is legal to record a conversation if at least one party to that conversation knows that it is being recorded, and there is no legal duty to inform the other party that the conversation is being recorded.
This means that I could legally record all conversations I have with other people within the state of NJ, and likewise anybody whom I call or who calls me can record out conversations. However, it would be illegal for a third party to record out conversation without our knowledge and consent.
Now the situation becomes more complex if I call somebody, or somebody calls me, across state lines... I've not made a study of the laws in every state, but I would not be surprised if there are states where both parties must give consent for the conversation to be recorded. This is probably the reason for the announcement "your call may be monitored and recorded for quality purposes" at the beginning of every call to customer support...

All Mail Accounts Offline

All my IMAP accounts have gone offline and hence I can not recieve any messages on my MAC. However, I am able to send mail and the connection doctor shows SMTP as online ( Green Dot), whereas all IMAPs as offline ( Red Dot). Accounts include Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Mail.com and iCloud. I have been facing this problem for 4 to 5 days.

Hi - I have the same problem but it re-occurs every day. It seems to happen after the mac goes to sleep. It's really annoying as I have to restart mail 3-4 times a day and each time I restart it it works fine. I have several email accounts - mostly gmail accounts - looks very similar to the screenshot above in that the IMAP's have red dots, the others green. There are also accounts in there that I don't have anymore which is strange!
Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me nuts!

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Buddy shown as Offline in iChat

I've never really used ichat before. My mom (she is over 80) just got a new iMac. Her first Apple product ever.
I have mobile me family pack so I signed my mom up for a me.com name and I have one too. I am signed into ichat and i am listed as "available" My mom is on my offline buddies list. However on her computer on ichat she is listed as online and "available" and I'm in her offline buddy list. Yet I'm listed as online on my computer.
Is there something else I have to do to make this work?

Hi,
At your end go to iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts and check the Security settings for Your Buddy List.
Do you have Allow Certain People and not have her in that list ?
Also do you have Block Certain People and is she in that list ?
Get her to check these two lists at her end.
Double check the spelling of the Screen Name you have of each other in the Buddy list.
It should list the full [email protected]
In previous version (ichat 4 and earlier) you had to select either AIM, @Mac.com or MobileMe to add a Buddy.
In iChat 5 adding a Buddy now requires you type the (Screen) name in full.
Examples

Would be three different Buddies. If entered incorrectly then they will appear Off line. (At the other end if Allow Buddy List Only is used in Security they appear off line as well).
A simple spelling mistake will also do the same.
The AIM Server (and @me.com names sign in to the AIM servers) only tell you the name is in a valid form and not whether it exists (if it does not exist then it is Off Line)
Security Blocking or Not allowing does the same thing.
Also double check that the Buddy list is not set to Invisible (however this tends to be a one way thing as (if you set it) you can see all your Buddies but they see you as Off Line.

All Buddies appear offline all the time

Whenever I log in to iChat all my buddies appear to be offline. I'm sure this isn't the case as I've called friends and they are in fact online. I've tried logging out and back in, updating, restarting. Can't figure it out.

Hi, same problem here (France) and some of my friends/colleagues have experienced the same. The only solution I've found so far (but not that convenient) is to create an aim account and to use it instead of your mac.com account. The aim doesn't bug but you have to re-enter all your contact list. I really hope guys at apple at working on this stuff. What if this was the first virus on a mac ?

Possible to streamline all buddy lists (jabber+aim+bonjour) to single?

Is it possible within leopard iChat to streamline all of my account buddy lists to a single list rather than having multiple windows - similar to the way Adium allows?

Not the Buddy Lists in iChat 4.
The Chats (text) yes.
However you can use the Jabber side and arrange for a AIM transport and put all your contacts in the Jabber Buddy list.

Buddy is offline but I can see status

A user who also has a mac and uses ichat is shown as offline on my buddy list, but I can see the status they had earlier. This does not happen for any other buddies of mine. The only thing I can think of is that they are invisible but it still shows status?

Thanks but I actually just want to know why this happens. Are they invisible? It doesn't happen with any other user, a majority of which use ichat.

Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2) - all client computers offline

The server is Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2). I have had this problem ever since I first installed the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server in the summer of 2013 (before R2 was released). The Windows Server 2012 Essentials server shows offline
for all Devices under Dashboard. (Allow me to add that I just installed another site with Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2, and it was a breeze - all of the computers at the second install site are online.) I have one Windows 8.1 Pro client and the rest
are Windows 7 Pro clients. The problem occurs on ALL client computers.
I have removed computers from Devices in Dashboard on the server, rebooted the server, changed the client computer to a workgroup, rebooted the client computer, and reinstalled the connector software on the client computer. Same result. I
have tried this on a Windows 7 Pro client and a Windows 8.1 Pro client with the same results.
After running the connector on a client computer and waiting for the server to update its Devices status, if I look under Devices on the server Dashboard, the Windows 8.1 client computer will say online but within 24 hours it goes offline again. The
Windows 7 client computers never show online. Both computers stay offline - they NEVER show an online status (referring to the status under Devices in Dashboard).
I should make it clear that the clients can access the server shares with no problem. File synchronization works great. The clients can ping the server and the server can ping the clients. But client backups on the server fail.
One of the most troublesome things about this problem is that it prevents the client computers from being accessed remotely using the website setup by Anywhere Access. I can login to get remote access to the shared files on the server, but
the only computer that says "online" is the server. All of the other computers are "offline".
The server and clients are only using Windows firewall. The clients all use Microsoft Security Essentials for their anti-virus.
I used a troubleshooting tool that tells me that there are problems with port 6602 on the server, but the clients are all fine with port 6602. I know port 6602 is important for using Anywhere Access but I am still trying to find out more details on that.
I have checked all of the firewall settings related to port 6602 on the server, and the firewall settings look like the standard Windows settings for this port. I used netstat to find the PID associated with the port, and I looked up the PID to find the service.
That all looked standard, too.
I have been working on this problem since the summer of 2013!! Does anyone have ANY suggestions?!!

“Offline” client computer.
When connect client computers to the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server by using the Connector software, there
will be LAUNCHPAD on the client computer. Was this LAUNCHPAD grayed out? Please check if can access Shared Folders via this LAUNCHPAD. Meanwhile, please ping the Windows Server 2012 Essentials via IP address and server name when client computers show as
Offline. Any find?

How do I add a googlemail user onto my buddy list on my ichat?

I bought my macbook a few weeks ago and, while I adore it to bits so far, I seem to have a bit of a problem with ichat (version 4.0.6). I tried to add my friend who uses a googlemail account (with jabber) onto my buddy list in ichat but, according to ichat, it seems that it only accepts mac.com, aim and mobile me account holders. So that was no good so I tried it on adium and I got it ok but for some reason, I cant see him online nor can he see me online. I logged out of adium and logged back into ichat and there it was his username there with googlemail.com but still cant reach him even though I said a couple of lines to check. Im stuck! Any idea how to add googlemail users onto buddy list on ichat?

Mail takes all mail account offline. I have duplicated this twice now. Let see if we can solve this.

I see others have had this problem but I do not see a solution. Simply put mail takes all accounts offline. The user is unable to return them to online status. Logging out or restarting will not allow the reenabling of the accounts. It takes deleting some of the files associated with mail and re entering the accounts info. I have seen this happen only when I have high date rate incoming internet traffic and mail attempts to retrieve the mail and it may take a few times. I download quite a few linux dvd isis so at time my bandwidth is full. This is when it has happened every time.
Even after the traffic has ceased mail is unable to connect. I ran disk util to see if there was a permission problem. I disabled the firewall to see if something changed there. Now note only mail seems affected i.e. internet usage is not. I tried pinging the smtp server no returns.

What files contain the config data for mail? The plist file?
Before I forget this is a macbook pro running 10.9.3 OS X Mail is Version 7.3 (1878.2)
connection doctor says mail was able to connect to the internet( notice trace route appears okay) but then complains the servers are unreachable.
Any thoughts, things to try etc.?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
