All calendar data disappeared and no TC backup calendar folder.
All calendar data disappeared from two iphone5's, ipad 2, iMac and a PC simultaneously. Apple folks are stumped. Went to Time Capsule to look for calendar backups. All iMac backups are there, but no calendar folder. And suggestions or thoughts?
Turned out that Apple tech support folks were the only solution possible. Tried to restore calendar via TC, but calendar folder not visible and not instruction how to make it so. New OS has made that folder not readily visible to the average, but tech support came up with a work around that is far too complicated to explain here. Just give them a call. Marvelous folks, and they live and work in the US of A!

ICal calendar data disappeared taking with it Entourage calendar and Mobile
I installed Snow Leopard on Friday on two Macs which are both registered on Mobile Me. My iPhone is also synched via Mobile Me. Just looking at my calendar in Entourage today(Monday) the events started disappearing. I opened iCal and the calendars were blank. I then went to Mobile Me and the calendar was there for about thirty seconds before it disappeared. Lastly, I booted my MacBook and the iCal calendars were empty as well as my iPhone. I tried to drag Calendar cache to the desktop and restarted iCal, but still empty. I have no archive calendar. The address book is fine and intact. First question - what happened? and Secondly, is there an archive available on Mobile Me that I can retrieve? Is this Snow Leopard related? I live by that calendar, so I need to get it back. Any suggestions?

I'm presuming you don't have Time Machine turned on, so you can't go back to find your previous calendar. If you don't, sadly I can't think of a way of retrieving it.
If you still have your address book my advice is to back that up straight away. (File, Export, Address Book Archive).
This is something that's happened to me before (prior to Snow Leopard). Mine began when I started getting double events in Entourage, when I decided in desperation after playing around with various options to delete the Entourage calendar in iCal, I did something to completely confuse the two systems and I could not get Entourage to re-recognise iCal. I read somewhere other threads that what I had to do was to turn off the synchronisation between Exchange and iCal for several cycles (several days) then reset it to sync again and be patient. I eventually got it back but remain paranoid and regularly take a back up of iCal (File, Export, iCal Archive). I haven't found a way to completely avoid the synching problems that happen from time to time like double events and not always synching. So I just back up regularly, take screenshots of calendars as well, and regularly check, turn synchronisation on and off while making decisions to override either Entourage or iCal when I turn it back on, and occasionally manually correct info. For me the problem is definitely tied up with the link to Entourage - if I turn of that synchronisation with iCal, then MobileMe works flawlessly. But i need the Entourage exchange calendar to be synchronised for work, so have to live with the flaws. -
Calendar data disappeared, not resynching with Gmail calendar - help!
All my calendar data just disappeared. I tried resynching with Google Calendar but the only entry to reappear was one I made a few minutes ago. Resynching does not work. The data is still visible in my Google Calendar on my desktop PC. How can I restore it to my iPhone?

Open "Settings" on the iPhone>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks>Accounts>your MobileMe account and turn off the Calendar, when prompted delete data, wait two minutes turn Calendar back on, and when asked merge the data. Wait patiently, and hopefully you will be able to regain sync functions. If you are able, I recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to make the change
AFAIK, the merge function will incorporate calendars on your iPhone and MobileMe.
If you are not confident with that answer, be sure to try MobileMe Support and select the appropriate country/language, choose "Syncing with MobileMe," select "Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues," and then select "Chat Now."

i have an iphone 4 and i have upgraded to ios 5. but after upgrading all my apps disappeared and in the summary tab in itunes it jus shows as other data..! please help
When I went to reload my phone it gave the option of restoring with icloud or itunes so i chose itunes (assuming icloud would have many more bugs). Afterwards, I had no music and 6.6g of other.
What I did was go into itunes, clicked my iphone 4, and clicked on each of the top tabs (summery, info, apps, ringtones, music, etc.) and ensured I had them all clicked onto sync/selected playlist etc.As my phone restored, the 6.6g of other dropped to .99g of other.
Unfortunately, all my songs are gone but everything else seems to be in tact. I don't think there is any way around this issue for now with the new ios 5 update when syncing either an ipad or iphone. I have an ipad 2 but am going to hold off on updating it until apple gets the bugs sorted out because, I'm sure you will agree, getting the music back to where you want it to be is a total nightmare and takes ages to not only pick the right songs and artists to put on it, but also the ones that will fit correctly with the space, depending on the size you have.

You synced your iPhone with iTunes for the first time after how long?
And this didn't happen by syncing only. This means you transferred the backup for another iPhone or you restored the iPhone with iTunes. It is not possible for everything to be lost by syncing alone. All iTunes content on your iPhone can be lost but not any photos in the Camera Roll and the same for contacts unless you synced contacts with an empty address book application on your computer. -
My iPhone 4 crashes very often (3-4 times per day) and sometimes (2-3 times per month) all my apps disappear and I have to restore them with iTunes. I downloaded all the system updatings and I also tried to restore my device, but I still have this issue
If you haven't already, try restoring your iPhone as a new device, not from a backup, and with only the apps Apple includes. Then see if the problems persist. It's possible that a corrupted file on the iPhone is causing the problems, and that could perhaps be coming back onto the iPhone if you're restoring using a backup. Problems with an app could also be causing problems. If the problems persist after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you almost certainly have a defective iPhone and will need to contact Apple for servicing.
If the problems go away after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you can start putting your other apps back on and see if the problems reappear; if they do, you probably have a badly-coded app.

I want to transfer my entire iTunes "folder" from a newer iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 machine running iTunes 10.7 to an older iMac running OSx 10.5.8. How best to do this and keep all my data, tags and covers in tact?
Firstly, time to get rid of the 2 x 512MB FBDIMMs in there, they add more heat and use more watts then they add to the system. If you need more, and 4 or 8 DIMMs is ideal, Amazon has 2x2GB sets $22 - about 1/50th what I paid for 1GB new.

7-8 years overdue for new system drive! amazed it lasted this long. An SSD plus some WD Black 2TB drives or larger should do the trick.
you can also put the SSD in the lower optical drive bay and use one of the two ODD "spare" SATA ports for the SSD - an SSD is the best way to improve the performance of our old Mac Pro 2006-7 models.
When you downloaded the Lion installer that was when to create a flash type installer with Lion DiskMaker.
If you have put in a new-ish graphic card then OS X 10.6.0 may not support it. -

This is sometimes caused by Bad Blocks on the Hard Drive.
If 10.7, hold down Command-R at startup, and choose Disk Utility.
If 10.6 or earlier, boot to the Installer/Utilities DVD, answer only the "what language" question and wait for the MenuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu.
Select your Hard drive by Make & Model and check the SMART Status (lower right of the right window). Choose "Repair Disk" . This ONLY examines and repairs the Directory area of the drive, but may improve things a bit. If errors cannot be repaired, you may need a stronger tool, or a new drive. -
After recently updating to 7.1.2, all of my past calendar entries for 22014 disappeared and I cannot add new entries??
What account were you using to sync your Calendar? Make sure that account is added to the device, and make sure that Calendars is turned on for that account.
Then, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and make sure that under the Calendar section that 'Sync' is set to 'All Events'.
Then go to the Calendar app, go to Calendars, and make sure that you have that account enabled.
Then, close out all the running apps on your device, and restart it.
Open up your Calendar app. Are your entries back? -
Contacts and calendar events disappearing and reappearing
I have three issues, two of which I think are related.
1.
My contacts disappear on my iPhone 3G. I am set up with MobileMe to auto sync and I don't know if that is getting screwed up somehow? The contact are on my Mac lap top when I go look (thank goodness), and I force a sync and they transfer to my phone fine. This has happened twice now. I have copied my contacts as vCards and saved that file in the downloads folder just in case they get lost on both my laptop and my iPhone - I also do a regular full laptop backup to my Time Machine - is there anything else I should be doing to back up my contact and calendar data?
2. (possibly related to 1.)
When I am looking at my iCal in the weekly view on my laptop, sometimes several of my appointments are not visible. It is only when I try to put an appointment in that is at the same time as the invisible ones that they suddenly reappear.
3. One of my contacts will not sync from my iPhone to my lap top? It used to be in both places but for some reason it is now only on my iPhone and even when I sync, it doesn't come into my laptop Address Book.
Help please!!!i am having what i think is a very similar problem in that my Exchange (you seem to use only mobileme) contacts partially disappear. i discover this when i check my sms message list and find that many messages show only the phone number when earlier the name was there. a check of the contacts list shows that some have disappeared.
i restarted the phone and checked immediately but it was still gone but after a few minutes they came back.
my theory is that something is going on with messy exchange server syncs with my iphone that could be causing the process to break midway but after a while the phone automatically syncs again.
this issue appears quite rarely for me but enough to be noticed and to be annoying. -
All iCal data disappears after 10.4.3 update
After updating to 10.4.3 all my iCal data was gone. I restored it using Backup and when I launched iCal it all appeared as normal—and then a few seconds later, poof, it all disappeared again right before my eyes. I tried making a new entry and at first it didn't seem to work, then all my iCal data reappeared for a few seconds, only to disappear again a few seconds later, leaving iCal "virgin" as if no entry had ever been made.
The current iCal version is 2.0.3. I have tried erasing preferences and starting over again to no avail. I have also repaired the disk and the permissions with no improvement.
Any suggestions anyone? This is one of the strangest OS X problems I have ever encountered.Yes,,, how did you solve the problem specifically from all the suggestions you got?
I got a whole new powermac and used the migration assistant, but that didnt bring the information over for some reason (regarding iCal atleast, and some small unimportant pref files).
I tried faking a 'subscribe' situation, a drag and drop, emailing the ics file, manually inputting them into the new machine's folder and so on but no go. And I dont have a .mac account to try pushing them over... -

ThanksI lost all my apps and all my data, including email messages. I do backup my apps but since the iOS updates said it was restoring my iPad I thought it restored my apps and data as well.
Wrong. It only restores standard iPad apps and their data, it doesn't even restore iBooks. What a stupid software update! I don't know why it doesn't automatically restore the other apps and data but it should at least throw up a dialog box to ask you if you want to restore your purchased apps and their data.
The other ridiculous thing about it is that you never have to restore apps when you update MacOS so why does iOS need to wipe the whole system and files to update? Seems to me iOS developers are not trying hard enough.
This whole experience is really putting me off. -
Well I am heading in to the
apple services store to collect my computer which went dead in my power cut 10 days ago (discussed in my last post), and has since been fixed with new power supply. My question is - what's the cheapest and easiest way for me to back-up all my data (several thousand photos, and similar number of songs on iTunes, and a few quicktime video files) Is there a product I can buy to save it on - I have no idea how many gigs etc, that will be? and what I need to buy to do so, and finally, how easy/fast will it be to save everything.... this is indeed a very simple thing, I am sure, but I have never done it before, just saved odd bits on pen drives, etc..... The repair is costing over $400 - and as it's an old imac, aside from the fact it has all of Final Cut Pro Studio on it - it's hardly worth the repair price.... what I want though is to save everything as cheaply and simply as possible - what do I need to buy and how (in simple language please) do I save it... But I'll also add a vote for Apple's own TimeMachine. It is an automatic backup system that runs every hour; the first backup takes a while and the rest not very long because they are backing up only the chances made in the last hour. Due to its schema, TimeMachine is most effective with a backup drive that is 2-3 times larger than your backup set. If you are using 200GB of your 500GB drive, then your TimeMachine backup drive should be at least 400GB and preferably closer to 600GB.
The two backup schemes are different and having two different backups is a very good idea - backup drives have been known to die . The clone's advantage is that it is a bootable system disk - if your computer's drive dies you can boot with it and keep working until you get the computer repaired. If your computer's drive gets messed up you can boot with the clone and try to repair it or at least recover some of the most recent files that aren't on the clone. (Which happens to be one of the disadvantages of a clone - people tend to reclone somewhat infrequently.) Having TimeMachine means you have very recent backups.
So if you intend to keep using this computer - TimeMachine might be the better choice - or at least another consideration. If you are just grabbing data - CCC will do the trick best. -
I have an iPhone 5c I was messing with my calendar and pushed the little lines at the the top to create a list format. My events all disappeared and now I can not get anything back or add anything back. June reappeared and I can renter anything in July or August. I would like to undo this list format and return to my previous calendar view? Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I just plugged in my Iphone after 4 weeks of downloading music and adding contacts around 400 to be excact. When I plugged it in my computer it started to sync with iTunes and it whipped all my data out. I have no photos contacts nothing, so I then in a rage reset to factory defult and I cannot even listen to music I purchased because it skips. I just want my phone back
Was this the very first time you ever plugged the phone into that computer?
Did you pay attention to the prompts you were given when you plugged it in?
Did you have iCloud backups turned on before you did this? I hope so... If you did, restore the phone from the last iCloud backup from before you wiped it. If not, then the photos, etc. are gone. Apps and music can be re-downloaded.
