All clips missing after import from camcorder!

All clips are missing after import from camcorder - Canon ZR20. For some tapes all clips are there, for others there are none. All the files are there in the finder, but I don't know how to have them show up in Final Cut Pro X.
Any suggestions?

Ok - this is frustrating. I have been importing my old miniDV tapes again into FCPX as I wasn't able to transfer all of these projects from iMovie - don't get me started... After importing about 7 of the tapes the first 3 came in fine, but the last 4 didn't have any clips as I said in my original posting. Now after restarting FCPX a couple of times all of a sudden the clips are all coming in! Strange! Guess I'm OK now.

2 sec. of video missing on import from camcorder

Hello, I'm hoping someone has an idea what I can do to fix this problem. I went to the apple store for help and they have never seen this happen. I have a JVC HD camcorder (GZ HD7U). I am importing dance recital footage into imovie. When I import it into imovie it is divided into two clips. There are a couple of seconds missing between the two clips but when I watch the dance on my camera the footage is continuous-the missing two seconds are there. Any idea how to get the continuous footage into imovie?? Or if anyone has a suggestion of a work around I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

If your iSight camera was on while you were trying to import video from your camera into iMovie, something was set wrong.

Video clips missing after import Please advise

I am new to this whole video editing and just learning. Before taking it to an editor I tried to import a DVD I had transferred from a VHS tape. All the video os on the DVD that was made but when i convert took the DVD and imported it I am missing about 5 minutes of footage that I needed.
I read by using the disk utility and selecting the disk and then select new image it was able to transfer into readable files for Imovie. But in the import window there is a time stamp that says 9:58 seconds but I am still missing several minutes of video. What am I doing wrong.

I just converted one of the H.264 QT movies to 'Apple Intermediate' and now the both video and audio assets import just fine.
So, I must assume that the problem has something to do with H.264, but any light that can be shed on this would be appreciated.

Audio wont play after importing from camcorder

I import video fine via the camcorder, the audio plays fine while importing but when I went to edit it, the audio track stops playing after about a mintue or two.
It shows up in the timeline, I have it checked to play, but for some reason it does not play, any ideas why this happens? I extracted a small clip of audio, and it still wont play. Any help is appreciated!

I'll double check at home the cam is there, I was messing with the settings at one point, new cam but don't think I changed any audio settings, just put it to stereo....

Poor Video after importing from Camcorder

I am inputing from a Canon Elura 100 which uses MiniDV. Used many times with PC with excellent quality. When I input to IMovie the picture appears very sharp as it is downloading. It appears to have loaded a high resolution since 20 minutes occupies about 6GB of storage. However, all of the clips, any movies I render all are very fuzzy. When I got to Share and Media Browser it only lets me render in Mobile. I tried exporting at high definition with no better results. Using my PC on this material, the DVDs are of high quality. What is wrong?

Try sending it to iDVD and burning it before you judge. First, your display is a progressive device, and may not display interlaced video properly even though it will look fine on a TV. Second, iMovie adjusts playback quality so that it doesn't drop frames. The quality of your actual video is unchanged.

Merge JPEG and RAW after import from iPhoto

Hi,
camera is set to shoot JPEG + RAW, iPhoto manages after import from camera as two separate files.
I want to transition from iPhoto to Aperture.
After importing from iPhoto into Aperture, is there any chance to merge the files in a way similar to how Aperture merges jpeg + raw when importing directly from camera?

How did you imort from iPhoto? If you import using the Aperture Apllication menu
File -> Import -> iPh.oto Library
then all your Faces should be transferred from iPhoto.
Which of the two buttons in Aperture do you use to show your "Faces"? There is the "Faces" button in the Library panel and the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar. Both behave differently. The "Faces" button in the Library panel will reveal all faces, whereas the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar will only show the faces detected in the in the currently selected item (folder, project). So it may appear that faces are missing, even if they are included in the Aperture Library.

A small update to this issue....
I have been trawling the forums to find an answer but to no avail...
And... I've tried exporting and bouncing individual stems and the full session, either by muting all bar the stem or soloing the stem.....and still nothing.
Same problems.....everything is audible in audition but nothing plays on playback.
Since the 'prelisten' channel strip is Solo safe this would indicate that you have a track or channel strip soloed somewhere else, out of sight. Are the Mute buttons on your channel strips blinking?
To view all objects in your mixer, click the button. You may have to scroll sideways to check the whole mixer.

My movie is in the Event Libary > 2008 however I can't figure out how to export it now.

export back to tape? not supported any more with vers7/iMovie08 anymore..
you can only export Projects.. drag your clips into a Project..

IMovies Changing Order after importing from DVD to iMovie

I take a burned DVD from our camera and then import it to iMovie. When I do this, after I get through importing it into iMovie, it changes the order of the film. Why is it doing this and is there a way to keep the order in place??

I'm not familiar with those 'DVDcorders', but what I've read here so far, the problem is: iM isn't able to read out the meta-data on some of those disks which create the time-stamp. instead, it catalogs by date-of-import
two things .. :
• check, time/date is set in your recording-device ..
• iM09 has a feature, to set the recording date (and time) of a clip manually after import; read iM's Help how to accomplish that ..

The usual procedure with video is you backup the card contents onto an archive drive. You import from the archive drive making a copy (professionals on set make two copies), and once the backups and import are verified, the card is reformatted in the camera.

Sound missing on some files after import from DV camcorder

As a new user to Macs grateful if you can help.
When importing to imovie 08 from a DV tape, some clips go fine, others are then missing the audio. Also some clips have audio and playback OK initially, then have audio missing after closing and re-opening imovie. Is this a bug? What should I do? Many thanks

I had a simular problem. To solve it I went about 5 seconds into the footage and started importing from that point, not the start of the tape.
What caused the prob? My only guess is the tape I was using was fairly used and right at the start of my tape I had some old footage for less than a second. When the new footage kicked in the sound went.

PE 9 lockup after HD import from camcorder

Hi folks, I've been using PE for many years. Currently have PE9 installed, all the updates, drivers, QuickTime, etc. up to date. No problems at all, I've produced many videos. But all of a sudden on the last few times I imported from the camcorder (Canon HV20), it imports fine but when it's done, PE9 locks up. It has the video on the timeline, but doesn't show it in the video display window. I have to Ctrl/Alt/Del, which then brings up the "PE9 stopped unexpectedly" Windows error.
When I start it back up, the video is there and saved and everything works fine. So I can work around this, but not sure why all of a sudden it's hanging after I import video, the same way I've been doing it for years? And like I said, no problems doing this with PE9 until recently. No other changes to the computer, so I'm not sure what's up, any suggestions? (I searched around in the forum but didn't find anything).

There are quite a few things to check, and many are included in this ARTICLE and in its links. For driver updates, do not trust Windows, or any update utility. Go to the mfgr's. Web site, plug in your audio, or video card make/model, plus your OS, then download and install the latest driver.
Next, if the situation does not improve, please post the full details of your system. See this ARTICLE. Pay special attention to the I/O sub-system. This ARTICLE will give you background and tips.

Import from camcorder stops after few seconds. Never used to! Ideas?

Hi you wonderful experts and enthusiast out there.
Been using iMovie HD 5 successfully for a couple of years, but all of a sudden I can't import from my camcorder. I have a long, unbroken, recorded sequence on the camcorder, but when I go to import iMovie imports just a few seconds before stopping. And if I hit import again it does the same, but the "bits" don't match exactly so I cant even splice them together. Which leaves my with no idea how to proceed.
I did wonder if the movie was already too full (unlikely, but the same happened on a brand new movie) and also whether the DV tape was just too old (but the same is happening with a brand new tape).
It's a Canon MV960, if that helps.
ANd if I can't use iMovie to import it - is there another way? (Like I can use image capture in place of iPhoto if I so desire.)

My list of what to try:
Test another FW-Cable.
The GarasgeBand trick. Start GB save a fake project close it. Now try iMovie again.
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
Using WHAT ? :
• Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
• QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
• iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
• iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? (Others don't count)
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
this and have a re-try.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Save me! Missing pics after import from CD? what the..?

Hello Mac superstars,
I'm on a macbook pro from late 2011, on lion so I think that I would then have iphoto 11?
Here's my story:
- Imported some photos from disc & first event created. But after ejecting disc, couldn't view pictures in iphoto (thumbnail fine, shows up in event but can't open to view full picture).
- Re-inserted disc, uploaded same pics to desktop then imported same pics from desktop into iphoto, to a new event.
- Think I opened the wrong event (direct from CD) and created an album & began editing. But disc was still in there so must have been working from disc?
- All was working fine for a while there...couldn't view photos at all.
- Then, I thought I deleted the original event with the pics uploaded from CD but may have deleted the event with the import from desktop??
- Can't restore from iphoto trash, original files nowhere to be found on my mac.
- Can't find photos from when they were saved to desktop using remorecovery software
All other photos fine, just this one group of photos missing .. Please provide troubleshooting tips!!

Thre's nothing odd here, it's exactly by design and as you have chosen.
You imported from a CD in a Referenced Library. If you run a Referenced Library then you decide where the files are stored. You decided they are stored on the CD. Now there is no CD there are no files.
When you import any files in any iPhoto set up, the app creates a thumbnail for fast viewing in the iPhoto Window. That thumbnail is stored in the Library package. That's why you can see it.
So, these files were never on your HD - or if they were they were deleted - so unless you're willing to run expensive File Recovery software there is no way to get them back.
If you wish to try something like File Salvage you may be lucky, if the files were on the HD at some point and if they haven't been overwritten since.

Mailboxes messed up after importing from Entourage: missing header problem

After switching from Entourage to Mail I found that many of my mailboxes are messed up. In Entourage these mailboxes work correctly. I already located the problem, but I cannot think of a solution.
The problem is that Mail uses the info from the mail header (date received and date sent) to determine the order of the messages. Comparing the long headers helped me find out that some messages do not have these headers. Still, Entourage shows correctly when I sent the message.
When Mail imports these messages, the headers are missing, and the message is given the date of import.
Is there a way that Mail can use other info than the headers so that the messages are imported correctly?
Or is there a way to let Entourage copy the sent info into the mail header?
Or should I think in a totally different way?

No, Mail in 10.4 is not crap; it's actually better and more reliable than Mail in 10.5. So here's what I would do, though this will not preserve any folder hierarchy--you'd have to manually do that:
1. In your Panther Mail program, choose an account, a mailbox (Inbox for this example), and Select All messages in that mailbox.
2. Choose Save As… and choose Raw Message Source from the dialog window, then choose a destination (your Desktop) and save the file as Inbox.mbox.
3. After that file is saved, go to your Desktop and create two new folders: one named Inbox and the other named Mailbox.
4. Put the Inbox.mbox file inside the Mailbox folder, and the Mailbox folder inside the Inbox folder. Copy the nested folder/file to the Tiger machine if necessary so you can access it from Tiger Mail.
5. Open Tiger Mail, choose File >Import Mailboxes…, select Other from the list of import options, then navigate to the Inbox folder and select Choose. The file Inbox.mbox should appear in the window; click Continue and wait for the import to finish. You can then move the Inbox messages out of the Import folder to wherever you like in Tiger Mail.
6. Rinse and repeat for your other mailboxes, changing the names of nested folders/files as necessary.
