All contacts varnished
Hi, i have a problem with iPhone 5. Suddenly, all my contacts dissapeared, i do not have even single number in my phonebook. And i didnt even touch the phone or play with settings. Is it possible it has something to do with updating my iPad's software to iOs 8.1.3? Please HELP!!
I'm now able to answer my own question. It turns out that Snow Leopard apparently reset my sorting method for the contacts in my Address Book. Before I installed SL I sorted my contacts by last name, then first name. Today (Saturday, 2009.09.12) I re-inspected Address Book's Preferences > General. There I observed that a conflicting, mixed sorting method had been set: "Show first name before last name" BUT ALSO "Sort by Last Name" had been set -- and Address Book couldn't resolve that incompatibility, naturally.
Solution in my case: Re-enable "Show first name following last name" AND "Sort by Last Name" in the General tab of Address Book's Preferences. Conversely, had I wanted to sort by first name, I would have chosen "Show first name before last name" AND "Sort by first name." I confirmed that sorts correctly that way too.
On that score, all's well that ends well for this problem introduced by SL when I installed it a few days ago.
There are, however, many more buggy problems with SL. I'll use a different post to flag those.

Hi Cynthia! If you are syncing from something like Gmail you can go into the iPhones Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>(account you are syncing)> and turn off contacts. It will ask you if you want to delete them from your phone - just click delete. Exit Settings and turn phone off by power button (not all the way OFF). Then re-open Settings>mail, Contacts, Calendars>(account you are syncing)> and turn Contacts back on - This is where you need to be careful - When you turn contacts back on you will be prompted to delete or save the contacts already on your phone. CLICK DELETE. You should now have only your synced contacts on your phone! Hope it helps!

ISync not syncing all contacts to Moto Razr V3i
Hi,
I have a Motorola Razr V3i that I'd like to sync with my Mac address book. I'm running Leopard 10.5.1. I keep the Address Book as the reference for all my contacts. When I connect my Razr to the Mac, I want to replace all the contacts on the phone with the entries in the Address Book. I have set options in iSync to sync all contacts with phone numbers. I am facing two problems with this:
1) During the sync, the application tries to replace data on my Mac with data from the phone. Is there an option that I can set by which the information on the Mac is never overwritten by the information from the phone? I want information to go one way all time - from my Mac to the phone.
2) After the sync, I discovered that not all the contacts had been imported. A few random contacts are not transferred from the Mac to the phone. I thought that this might have something to do with the fact that the phone used to be synced to my earlier install of Tiger. So I did a "master clear" and a "master reset" on the phone. But even after doing that, some of the contacts (different ones this time) were not synced. And due to the problem described in #1, iSync tried to replace all my existing contacts on the Mac with blank information on the phone.
What's the point of iSync if I have to check whether all contacts have been imported, and manually enter the ones left out. I checked for a software update on the phone, but there was none available.
I'd be happy to provide additional information to get this problem fixed.

SaurabhI am having the same problem with Leopard 10.5.1 Isync and my razor V3 from Cingular. In addition the contacts in my address book are duplicated after syncing with my phone. Basically after using Isync my address book gets doubled and cluttered with names and no phone numbers, the data gets completly screwed up. Whats going on?

Put a new OS on my computer - downloaded the new iTunes and loaded on all apps and music .WHile syncing the iPhone all contacts
got erased.However I have them on my iPad which I have not synced. How do I transfer my contacts on iPad to the iPhone ?for purchases from the iTunes store do this:
connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.

I added a contact to my iphone 4s and when I did a sync manually it is not showing up on my MAC in address book - please help....I checked off sync all contacts in iTunes - does it only work one way from computer to phone?
Is it because the new itunes looks different.
View > Show Sidebar
Then it should work just the same as on your old computer. -
IPhone 4 - iOS 5 upgrade - LOST ALL CONTACT DETAILS
I upgraded to iOS 5 and now I can't get to any of my contact details.
What I have -
The list of my contacts is displayed under the contacts option, but when I touch any contact name it takes me back to the home screen. Can't make any phone calls. But I can receive phone calls and the caller-id displays the correct name too. So my guess is the information is there somewhere, I just can't seem to find it or use it.
What I have tried so far -
1) Resynced contacts from the Info tab in iTunes. I get the following error msg - "iTunes couldnot sync contacts to the "iPhone" because contacts are being synced over-the-air
2) turned off sync over wi-fi from iTUnes. Tried syncing again. Same error message as above.
3) Tried going to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" under settings, it takes me back to home screen. It displays the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" details screen for about half a second and takes me back to home screen.
4) Went to iCloud under settings and tried to turn off teh "Contacts" from there. It simplays doesn't turn off. I can turn off everything else listed under there, but contacts. No matter what I do, it stays on.
5) Signed into iCloud.com with my account. The contacts info there has only one contact listed (mine).
6) Tried to edit contact details from one of my recent text messages. Doesn't work. Takes me backto home screen.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this. At this point I can't even use the main function a phone should be performing, i.e. make calls from my stored contacts.I had the same problem. Time Machine proved invaluable here. I opened up Address Book, selected "All Contacts", started up TIme Machine via Spotlight, and scrolled back to the day before I ran the 4.2.1 updater. Bada bing, all contacts restored to the address book! Simply did an iPhone sync after that and all was well again.
Still, nasty bug Apple. :-| -
All Contacts won't open a new contact page
I am a first time owner of a new iphone4 which was professionall set up and synced (Macbook Pro, ipod) for me. I was successfully enterering contacts when the ALL CONTACTS + function unexpectedly froze.
Not sure if I hit something in error and have no idea where to investigate this problem.Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons -

Is there a particular reason why you want to delete the contacts all at once? The only way you can delete all the contacts all one time would be to wipe the device. This will complete erase all data on the phone including the contacts.
You want to make sure you backup your device uisng the desktop manager. Once you perform the wipe you can then backup your contacts using the desktop manager and just make sure to uncheck the Contacts when backing up so they are not added back to your phone.

How can I create a list of all contacts in my 'sent folder'

One of my email accounts has been hacked. So I need to contact everybody I ever sent an email again to warn them about fake emails sent from potential impersonators. First, I want to gather all their email addresses, maybe creating a distribution list and send a generic email. But they are a lot, so copying and pasting is not an option. On the other hand, the 'previous recipients' list contain all contacts from all email accounts I have.
Second, I do not want anybody to see the email address from others as they belong to different organizations. Can anybody help me out?Apparently not. So I installed MIcrosoft Outlook for Mac and imported all the stuff. It was worth the hour or so I spent on it and I have a distribution list.

After restore with backup on icloud , A moment seen iphone 4 contacts and contacts 5S immediately replaced!

TanksYou have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup.. Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

i have update and restore my wife iphone to 7.0.4 and i lost all the data what to do now? all contacts and kids photos goooone , we have the same apple ID and when i tried to restore from i cloude , i restored my contacts not her???!!!!!
Looks like you restored your backup file to her phone. If you didn't back up your wife's phone first, then the data is gone, sorry.

How can I replace ALL Contacts on the iPhone with my MobileMe Contacts?
I have removed all duplicates in AddressBook on my various Macs and have uploaded the master copy to MobileMe. I would now like to replace all Contacts on my iPhone with that MobileMe master.
I have followed the steps in the KB article for syncing the iPhone but when I get to the step of turning on the iPhone Settings for the Contacts it looks like the sync wants to merge the contacts. Of course, I do not want to "merge" since that will reintroduce all those duplicates.
I suppose I could manually delete each of the the hundreds of contacts that are on my phone until it is empty ... and then turn on the iPhone setting for Contacts. That way it will have no option other than "add." But surely there is a more efficient way.
(FWIW, when I turned OFF the setting for the Calendar it did empty the iPhone's calendar, which is what I wanted. But it didn't do that for the Contacts -- I turned that setting off but I was not asked if I wanted to keep or toss the Contacts. They are all still on the phone.)

Brilliant! That worked like a charm.
I created a new User Account on one of my Macs and logged into it. I connected my iPhone to its iTunes and checked my iPhone's Sync Contacts option in iTunes. Since that account's address book was basically empty (two dummy contacts, one for Apple and one for this new user), I ended up with only those two Contacts on the phone. Then, going back to my real User account (which does not have syncing turned on in iTunes) the phone synced nicely with the MobileMe account and populated the phone with all the MobileMe contacts and groups. -
