All downloads freeze at "processing file"

After a download from the iTunes store appears to complete, iTunes shows "processing file" and then it just sits there forever. I can move about within iTunes, but I cannot cancel/pause the download, and I cannot quit iTunes without force-quitting. This happens regardless of whether I am trying to download a new purchase or updating an existing app. AND it is happening on *both* Mac computers that are linked to my iTunes account, so it is not specific to the computer connected to the store. I tried quitting iTunes, deleting all the files from Music->iTunes->Mobile Applications->Downloads and Music->iTunes->iTunes Music->Downloads, and restarting iTunes. I also tried logging out and back in to iTunes. Those didn't help. I am able to successfully download apps directly to my iPhone through the iTunes mobile app. But I am completely locked out of new purchases or updating apps on both of my computers because of this issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

**Short Term Solution**
I am having the same problem and it seemed that certain Apps were causing "processing file" freeze.  I have my iTunes set to download apps simultaneously.  Some of the Apps would process but after three Apps "froze", I would close down my iTunes
for Windows users:
-right-click on Task bar
-click on "Start Task Manager"
-highlight iTunes
-click "End Process"
I would start iTunes up again and click update apps again and start the process all over again until three Apps were "frozen."
I finally just did one at a time until I got three Apps "frozen" and then would restart iTunes (see above).  Eventually, I was able to download all the apps.
For some reason, one particular App - Duolingo - kept "freezing" every time.  It wasn't until it was the last one that I was able to finally download.
Either way, it is a solution - albeit a very cumbersome one.

  • Music downloads but says processing file

We have down loaded hundreds of songs from i-tunes with no issues on the same PC. For the past 2 months only about 20% of the music will complete the download?? The song downloads just fine but then it stats processing file and it stays there indefinitly??? We get charged for the song but we do not get the song. I have done the report a problem many, many time and all the i-tunes rep e-mail us is we do not give refunds but we will give you a free credit. I have asked them over and over for some help on fixing this issue but I get nothing but a free credit that will not work. I have never asked for a refund all I would like is to be able to download music from i-tunes...Any ideas??

    Welcome to AD!
Have you tried temporarily disabling any security software you're running, to see if it still happens?
Also, do you use V CAST from Verizon? It has caused conflicts with itunes processing files.

  • Downloads stop at processing file with no error

Have latest update of system and itunes, and i'm trying to download some new songs and they all stop at processing file. i can't seem to buy or download more than one at a time, and i'm not getting an error sign or anything. if i quit itunes and reboot it, the song will have downloaded completely, but as soon as i try to buy and download another song, the same thing happens. Suggestions?

    YEP.
If you google this issue, you'll see people have been struggling with this for years.
I just bought an album from iTunes today and have the same problem.
    Screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51836583/Screenshots/l4.png
Notice how it keeps redownloading the tracks every time I reboot iTunes.
And as I was typing this, one of the files actually completed processing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51836583/Screenshots/l5.png
I guess the joke is on us for buying music from iTunes.

Lion hides the Library directory, but there are instructions on this page that describe how to make it visible.

In Snow Leopard, the Firefox profile is in User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<randomname>.default. I am assuming that the path has not changed in Lion.
Finding something in the Library used to be easy before Apple decided that Spotlight should no longer access it, so I have taken to using Easyfind instead. If the path to the profile has changed in Lion, you could still find it by searching for cookies.sqlite, but you cannot use Spotlight for that. Easyfind is much more versatile anyway.

  • Which 'download and instal process' files to trash?

I am not clear about what these files actually are and whether I can dump them - after installing the apps associated with them -
    .bin
    .smi
    .dmg.gz
    .smi
    .smi.hqx - with printer download
    .sit
Also - I dumped the msn messenger .dmg (thinking I could dump all .dmg files) and of course I couldn't open messenger. Why was this?
Any pointers please will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gordon

    Hi gordon,
all these files are compressed archives for applications and/or files. StuffIt Expander by default deletes them after it expanded them.
dmg-files are a disk images. It is also used as a "transport-container" for applications but can also be used as backup. In order to use a disk image simply double-click it and a hard disk icon will appear on your desktop. Copy it's contents to your hard disk and after that you can delete the disk image.

  • After song downoads, itunes freezes when preocessing file

I upgraded to itunes 8, but I have gotten a lot of errors. The main problem is that after the song downloads it says processing file but nothing ever happens past that point. I have noticed that this only happens on the songs with the "plus" sign on them. Does anyone know how I can get it to stop freezing?

Other folks have posted that a Verizon VCAST software was blocking itunes. It is a process called memonitor.exe in your task manager.
You might not be getting an error 8248, but check that out, see margs188 post here

  • Can we process files with attachments using File Adapter

    Hi All,
I want to process files which have attachments using File Adapter.
Is it possible to process such files?
    May be using standard modules?

Assuming you are talking about sender FILE channel....you can make use of PayloadSwapbean provided by SAP (standard module)...to read data from attachment.

  • My downloads freeze on the processing file message.

Might need to "recreate" your iTunes library, read here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
And launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • 'processing file' for downloaded items.

I have been trying to download a TV show for a couple of days now and all it keeps saying is 'processing file'. Why isn't it downloading completely?

I'm having similar issues, but I noticed that only certain artists seem to cause the problems. My wife recently bought me an iPod so I went and bought a series of albums by 4 main artists - Pink Floyd, Rush, Jethro Tull and Metallica. All songs by Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull are experiencing long (~5 mins per song) "processing file" delays, none of the Rush and Metallica songs are. This leads me to believe it may not my PC, as I would think all files would have the issue rather than just some. The download speeds are normal, i.e. 15 seconds or so, depending on file size. Also noticed my CPU utilization was pegged at 100% while processing these 2 problematic bands, fluctuated at 30-60% for the others.
Edit: I upgraded to iTunes 8 tonight after I'd already downloaded some songs using 7, only had the problem after the upgrade to 8.

  • My iPhone with iTunes match is extremely slow downloading songs, stuck on processing file

I have a 64GB iPhone 5, with iTunes Match enabled. Whenever I try to download songs to the phone, the songs will download very quickly, usually with 15 seconds, but then it will be stuck on Processing File for 15-20 minutes. This makes it very difficult to download large numbers of songs. I have been trying to download ~3000 songs since Friday and there are still 492 left after 4 days. Any ideas why the processing file action takes so long?
Internet speed: 15ms ping, 35mbps download, 11mbps upload
    iOS version: 7.1.2
    Capacity: 57.1GB
    Available: 30.7GB
    Thanks,
    Randy

I'm trying to load ~20k songs onto my new iPhone 6 via iTunes Match, and I'm only about 1/20 along after two days
I can't even track the progress using the iTunes Store app since the app either crashes immediately upon launch or doesn't show the "Downloads" tab (if I reboot the phone, I'll see the "Downloads" tab once with a badge indicating the number of songs remaining, but after locking up the app for a few minutes, the "Downloads" tab disappears until I reboot again).
Instead, I get alerts every so often reporting "Unable to Purchase" as sync downloads occasionally fail. The only way I'm able to see that anything is still progressing at all is by going to Settings -> General -> About and observing the "Songs" number very slowly incrementing.
Meanwhile, I cannot update any apps since app update downloads appear to queue up behind iTunes Match syncs instead of being entirely independent.
I have been terribly disappointed with Apple's handling of iTunes Match.

I am using itunes 10.5. Update didnt work on last software but restore did work. Help

After two days of attempts, Google & Apple searches, one Apple post stated to turn off all firewalls and virus software and keep trying since there were 6 gazillion people trying to update.  I have Windows 7 & Kaspersky and had to diable every single safety feature in Kaspersky as well as Firewalls and it finally allowed the download and update attempt.
Glancing at the forum, there appears to be numerous other problems with missing pictures, text problems etc after the IOS5 download but fortuneately, everything seems ok so far.  Good luck, it is frustrating!  Hattie47
