All Events Disappeared

I opened iCal this morning to find it (almost) empty. I think Birthdays are still there. I have 20+ different calendars, and even my subscription calendars won't display. The list of calendars is still at the left, but they're all empty. I have 20+ years of events stored including events I brought into iCal from previous calendar software. This would be a major loss. I use iCal as a log as much as I do tracking future appointments.
My first thought was to use Time Machine to bring back my events from a couple days ago, but I have no idea where the iCal/event library is stored or what it's called?
Help! I looked for similar problems before... but those I found were dated 2003 - 2005.

After much trial and error I found that I could sync my events from the MobileMe version back to my desktop iCal. Not sure what people without MobileMe would do, but maybe the problem doesn't affect them.

Tried resetting, tried off and back on, still no events for this month or months past.  Any other ideas out there?

        Hi stoney121974!
I use my calendar all the time, so I know how important this data is! Let's do some troubleshooting. Since you mentioned that it's set up to sync with your Google calendar, I went to my references to research, and found some troubleshooting steps for you. Please review the information below.
      • do you see the name of the calendar in the list on the left-hand side (LHS) of your screen?
      • if so, does it have a coloured square beside it?
      • if it doesn't, try clicking on the name of the calendar. Do your events now show up on your calendar?
      • if you don't see the name of the calendar on the LHS, please click on the 'cog' and go in to Settings | Calendars.
      • do you see the name of the calendar there? If so, please make sure there is a 'check mark / tick' in the 'Show in list' column. When you go back to your calendar, do you now see your calendar in the list, and events in the calendar?
    Please let me know, thanks!

  • All events disappeared and iCal won't quit

    Ok, I'm stumped.
I'm not sure if this started when I did the 10.5.5 upgrade or when I had a power-hit crash in the same time frame, but iCal seems pretty much dead. When I launch it, I see none of my events or groups - just a blank calendar. When I try to quit, the "iCal" menu shows blue but nothing happens. I can force quit but get the same results upon restarting iCal.
So, I have good backups and restored my user Library/Calendar and Library/Application Support/iCal folders. No change. Tried tossing the prefs and the Cache files per some other threads I've seen here - no change. Finally got out Pacifist and reinstalled iCal from my Leopard disk (which caused a number of other problems but sorted them out by reinstalling 10.5.5 update). iCal however, is still doing the same thing.
Anyone have suggestions for what I might try next?

Do the combo update for 10.5.5. For some reason, a number of us had the same problem when 10.5.5 update was first available. Even though I had 10.5.4 on my computer, ical worked (not) just like yours. Redoing the update as the combo one seemed to solve the problem.
Look for the thread ical hosed with 10.5.5.

  • Ical stopped working, all events disappeared

I recently downloaded one of the automatic software updates Apple launches every month or so, and now my ical is completely blank. I tried to add a new event to it and it didn't work. I also tried to restore my backed up ical file and that doesn't work either; instead it says that the restore failed and that "iCal data has not been changed." How can I fix this?

    1. Restore iCal from the last save that it worked properly.
    2. Back up iCal.
    3. Quit iCal.
    4. Go to libray/application/support/iCal
    5. Archive the folder "Sources."
    6. In EVERY folder within "Sources," remove the files that end in ".plist."
    7. Open iCal and, if necessary, restore from the backup you know is working.
    8. That should do it, but if there's still an issue, repeat the above AND
    a. Search for and delete "com.apple.iCal.plist"
    9. For routine maintenance, you might also want to download, install and run weekly APPLEJACK (http://sourceforge.net/projects/applejack/) OR
9a.Open Terminal, and copy and paste the following:
    rm -rfv ~/Library/Caches/*
    sudo rm -rfv /Library/Caches/*
    sudo rm -rfv /System/Library/Caches/*
    sudo rm -rfv /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
    sudo diskutil repairPermissions /
    lookupd -flushcache

  • HT5824 How do retrieve my calendar for my iphone? All the events disappeared on my last sync.

How do retrieve my calendar for my iphone? All the events disappeared on my last sync.

to retrieve from where? If you synced with icloud all you need to do is go to settings- icloud- turn calendars on. After a minute your calendars should show up and if they do not you can try to turn off and then on again. If they still didn't show - they were never synced with icloud and then the first question to retrieve from where? comes back to us.

  • All events in my calendar has disappeared

All events in my calendar have disappeared?

    Hi Chloe Mary,
Your issue with Calendar certainly sounds alarming - all the events disappearing would bother me too! There are a few things you might check to see if they can fix this.
First, are these event only local to the computer? If not, you may only have to reconnect to the server providing the calendar service in order to get them back. For example, if using iCloud for your calendar server you might use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3999
    as well as -
iCloud: Advanced Calendar and iCal troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4337
That last article may also assist you if your calendar is strictly local to your device.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • Relink does not work; all events staying red and files disappear!

    A very bad bad story...
after continuis spinning ball (i hate this thing what so often comes to please me) I used "forced stop" fcpx. (i could not else)
after restart fcpx all the events are in red.
after restart mbp + fcpx: all events are red again... that looks bad to me...
i tried more than ones the relinck function:
no result at all. I saw actions being done, the harddisk drive was working but no relinked files in the events. (i tried one by one, there are 9)
An other attempt with relinck: a small event (about 9 files) and not important for me seems to be going well, the red clips disappear in the event window but .. all clips disappeard to!; a totally empty event window... I looked with finder into the map and believe it or not: all the files were gone! I could not believe this thinking i made a fault.  Thus:
I repeated this action with another map (and copied the files in it first) and the same happens: totally empty.
I tried to re-import from camera/archief: no result.
The last thing to do was:
to open a new event and "imported from file": the clips came into the event window but .... red...
So, in my opnion there is something very very wrong...
What can i do more to restore the connection because the most events have a content according to the finder.
BTW, i know there is a lot of discussion about this matter and may be with the solution but i can 't find it... (even with the searchfunction)
For any help or suggestion: Thanks!
    Bruce.
(I am going to sleep now, it is over midnight here)

That's not stupid, I happened to me too yesterday.
How are you supposed to know that the files fcpx is pointing out are originals or Proxies. You have to go check in the Prefs.
Wishlist: Since choosing to read fullres or proxy media is an application wide feature, it should appear clearly somewhere (in the Timeline bar, the Library, or the Inspector) as a reminder.
A couple of time I have wondered which files fcpx was reading. The only way to know is the cmd-F (Locate in Finder) command. The Inspector doesn't give any answer to that.

  • All iCal Events Disappeared

    Hi
All of my ICal events just disappeared before my eyes! Basically I had a physio appointment this morning, went there and booked for teh same time next week. So I copied my existing event, and pasted it on the next Friday.
At that point, all events just vanished! I clicked undo, shut Ical down, rebooted, but none of those things bought it back.
I have them on my iphone, but I fear syncing will lose them.
    Help!

Yes, my entire calendar from March on back to the beginning of time suddenly disappeared. From May forward it's still OK.

  • All iCal events disappeared beyond 90 days ago

I just noticed that all of my events—except for repeating ones—have disappeared from my iCal calendar, from August 28th backwards. In other words, I have everything still for the past 3 months, just the stuff before that is gone.
Since I've got MobileMe and an iPhone, I checked those, too, and same deal: everything except repeating events (birthdays, weekly and monthly custom stuff) is gone.
I've no idea what happened. I don't have any iCal setting set to delete past events.
Since I have Time Capsule set up, I'm wondering if there's a way to go back and grab the iCal calendar before all events and appointments got deleted. I'm positive it's in TC, just don't know how to get it, and yet not erase the stuff that's been added since.
    Any ideas?

Mike, Thanks for posting. I'd done a search for this issue and nothing came up, so I appreciate you linking back to that thread.
For anyone following this, that other long thread doesn't have any solutions other than Mike's post. So I'll copy his solution here:
"I have got my old calendar data back into MobileMe without downgrading by:
1.Restore ~/Library/Calendars from Time Machine (use "replace" option). This adds all the events Including (all the earlier ones) into "on my mac" calendars. So if you have both the "MobileMe" and the "On my Mac" calendars ticked then the recent events are duplicated. You could stop here and leave the "on my mac" ones unticked unless you wanted to see the history. I went on to......
2.Export each calendar from "on my mac", and import each to the corresponding MobileMe calendar.
3.Manually remove the duplicates for recent events."
I'll add my own two cents: I wasn't sure how far back to go in Time Machine, because I completely forgot which day (or month) I'd upgraded the MobileMe Calendar. In fact, I tried about 4 dates, and then checking to see if the old calendar (on my mac) was back. Each time, it wasn't, so I kept going further back in Time Machine (finally until August 1, 2010). Weirdly, it still wasn't back.
But then I noticed an interesting file inside of (home)/Library/Calendars, called Cache. There were actually a couple of them. I wondered if it acted similar to Safari's cache, in that it kept things just like they were an hour ago. So, I deleted all of the cache files, and boom, all of the events were back.
Strangely, all of the events and to-dos I'd added since August were also still in the calendar. I've no idea how it did that, since I thought I completely replaced the contents of the Library/Calendar folder.
    Some other tips:
    1. before doing anything, backup your Calendar (File: Export: iCal Archive) just in case you need to redo the whole thing.
    2. Back up the current Library/Calendar folder. Probably the same thing as doing the above Archive, but I'm not that smart so I did this as well.
    3. Sign out of Mobile Me (System Prefs: MobileMe: Account: Sign Out), so that MM doesn't try to overwrite your good work.
    4. Quit iCal before working with Time Machine.
    5. Before working with Time Machine, I took screen shots of each month (in Month View) for the last few months. This was in case the backup would delete all of the stuff I'd added since the date I was backing up from. As noted above for reasons I can't figure out, the old Calendar kept all my new stuff from the last few months, so I didn't end up needing the screen shots. Still, I'd suggest doing it!
As Mike noted, there were some duplicates. I couldn't see any pattern to the dupes, but they were mainly birthdays, repeating tasks, and a few multi-day events. Not a big deal.

  • Calendar said if I wanted to save entries for more than a month to click 'all events' in settings.   Now all events except birthdays have disappeared!  Have tried to reverse request with no luck.  HELP!

    Welcome to the discussions,
WHY does it claim to be 8G but my capacity now says its just 6.83
The size of you HD is calculated binary when it comes to use it, instead of decimal when companies want to advertise there products. 1 KB=1024Byte instead of 1000KB as advertised by the manufacturer. In your case this reduces the actual available space by the factor of 0.93 or approx. 7,4GB.
If you have an "other" section in your color bar showing the different types of data on your ipod, which is bigger than 500MB, this could be a sign of corrupt data caused by a sync that did not complete or copied damaged data. A restore will reduce the size to normal again.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you restore your ipod, iTunes will install the newest firmware first and then add back your data and settings from your last backup if you choose to "restore from backup". Every backup is replaced by the following one, so make sure to include this folder in your backup routine in case you'll have to go back.
You can check the location and size of the backup folder for your ipod here:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    copied from: About backups http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Sorry, I can't answer your payment question, I have never used your kind of setup, maybe you can find something useful here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

  • Can someone please help. I noticed that all my calendar events have completely disappeared :( I made sure that under settings "mail/contacts/calendars", that under sync it is "all events". Not working.

Can someone please help. All calendar events have completely disappeared from my iphone. I tried troubleshooting. Made sure that in settings, the "mail/contacts/calendars", that under "sync" it was checked off "all events". But it was like that already. Nothing seems to be working. Are my events lost now? I'm stressing. Lol. Thank you.

Check settings > iCloud > calendars.  Is it on or off?

  • ICal events disappeared (not linked to MobileMe or iCloud)

    Hello,
    I run iCal 4.0.4 with MacOSX 10.6.8.
I recently noted that all events before 6 May 2011 have disappeared and I don't know why.
The preferences are not set with the 'Delete events ?? days after they have passed' (the box is not ticked).
I did a test yesterday looking if the events where disappearing but that is not the case, so this morning events after the 6 May 2011 still there.
My iCal is not linked to ModileMe or iCloud in any way.
Where are the events before 6 May have gone? Can I retrieve them? Would events continue to disappear?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

You need to ensure that each device (including the MBP) is using iCal from iCloud (NOT a local version of iCal).  Using the MBP as an example, click on the Calendars icon in the upper left corner and look for something similar to the following:
If it does not say ICLOUD at the top, there's your problem.  Post back and we'll go from there.

  • How to delete all events from iCal?

Is it possible to select and delete all events from iCal? Or is it simpler to delete the calendar itself? Thanks!

    Sorted now!
To clarify for people like me: type "." in the search bar
Then click on the first item in the results pane
Go to the other end of the list, hold down shift, and click the LAST item
They should all be highlighted now
    Then use Edit/Delete
NB it may take a couple of mins (or ten!) for the items to disappear from your view, particularly if syncing with MobileMe.

  • Some iCal events disappear when in week view

    Hello all,
I recently had a double agenda booking. Today I found out why:
In week view some iCal events disappear... When i switch to month view, they reappear.
So, depending on the view i have open time slots. Not very reliable.
Anyone know what i can do to return to solid bookings again?
    Best regards
    Fred

Same problem here. I just imported everything from my old MacBook to my new one using Time Machine. My events appear in the Month view but not in the Week or Day views. So I went back to my old MacBook, created an iCal backup file, and emailed it to myself. Opened it on the new machine, restored from the backup file, and . . . same thing!
Very strange!! I need my daily events to be visible. Any help out there?

  • Calendar disappeared! Last week I updated to IOS7. Today as the clocks ticked over in Australia to 2014 my contacts and calendar events disappeared. Help!

Please help. With the beginning of 2014, my calendar events disappeared. I turned the iPad off, the. On again and repeat events reappeared, but all once off events/ appointments are gone! Everything was there before midnight, but I discovered around 2am, 1.1.14 that everything was gone. Bug? Help! Please.

Are your contacts stored in an MS Exchange server, in iCloud, or some other source? Setting the Sync to less than All Events should not delete events, but only stop showing them on your device. However, Outlook also has a setting to actually delete events older than a certain date. Have you checked that?
If you log in to iCloud.com (and you are syncing with iCloud) what do you see? Whatever is there is all you can get on the iPhone, unless you can restore from another source.
I also suggest enabling iCloud Backup (settings/icloud - Storage and Backup). This will create a new backup any time your phone is connected to power and WiFi, so you will always have a current backup, painlessly.
