All Faces tagging lost

After spending lots of hours tagging photos using Faces, it looks like I have lost it all. Opened Aperture today and clicked on Faces and only one person is showing up. I had about 50 different people tagged--some of them with up to 100 photos.
I think that the tagging is not completely lost. When I open a photo (in a project) of someone who I know was tagged, their name is there. But, when I click on the little arrow that should jump me to that person's page in Faces, it just takes me back to the general Faces page with the one person whose face remains there.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check the upper right hand conner of the faces viewer. There is a search box there make sure it is empty. If an x is displayed click it to clear out the box.
As Kirby said most of the time this kind of problem is caused by a filter being applied unknowingly.

  • All faces tagged?

I used keywords for 'faces & places' in the past. But now that faces & places are supported in iPhoto I'll of course want to switch to using the built in features. So I've got an entire library to 'tag'. Which is fine. My problem is .... how do I know what photos have unrecognized or unconfirmed faces? I can't create a smart album it seems. Anybody have a solution for this?

There is no way currently to do that - you can create a smart album that will have all photos where no faces have been confirmed - but as soon as one is confirmed they go away
I suggest a smart album for each person tagged and the go through the photos and name the people in them - by the time you finish you will have most if not all of your faces identified and confirmed - and a very large sample for iPhoto to work with for finding the rest
And I still like taggng photos - I use faces to collect the photos and then tag them with the person's name so smart albums will work with them

  • Does Aperture support deletion of multiple "unnamed" face tags?

Faces is a great feature.  I love it.
I have 40,000 pictures in iPhoto.  iPhoto currently does not have a way to select all "unnamed" face tags in a photo and remove them.  I have to click each separate "unnamed" face tag to delete it.  Because of the volume I am working with, without a global delete feature, I am looking at a 100-hour project (approximately 60,000 mouse clicks) to accomplish the deletion of all these "unnamed" face tags.
I was hoping that Aperture would offer this feature, since it is a Pro app.  I called Apple today and they told me that "No, Aperture does not have this feature, either."
Does anyone know if Aperture does have a way of doing this?  I tried to get an Apple Aperture support rep on the phone to think "outside the box" today on this, but he couldn't think of anything.
It just kills me that because I can't select multiple face tags in a photo and mass delete them with a single keystroke or click that I'm facing 100-200 hours worth of work, literally about 60,000 mouse clicks, in order to get rid of all my "unnamed" face tags.
Thanks for any ideas anyone might have.

Why is it worth 100 hours of your time to remove them?
(While I think_if_ there is a way to do what you want.)

  • Greyed out Face tagging- Still!?!

I have a library of 15,000 photos.  I would say only 1/16th of them have face tags.  I have done library rebuilding.  I have been on the phone with support to try their "Solutions".  I see no spinning wheel next to faces like it's actually working to find more.  However, iPhoto continues to write 387mb to my drive every minute while open.  I am assuming it is finding photos to face tag, but I look through and there isn't that many new face tags.  Terrible that it takes that much space to tag a face.  I have left my library open for about 6 months now and it's still writing and writing to my drive and tagging photos is still greyed out on a majority of my photos.
I want a real answer from someone who is intimate about the program.  If this program was made for a library of 500 photos then just friggin tell me and I will move on!
Does anyone know a proceedure that will fix this issue and force the faces to work properly?  Quickly identifying missing faces and allowing tagging of all photos in libraries this large.

So, what solutions have you tried? It saves time for everyone if you tell us all the things you know already won't work.
There's a question that might yield useful answers. You have provided no details at all, not even the most basic information such as the version of iPhoto, where your Library is stored and so on.
And yes, I would happily say everything I have already written to your face. Frankly, your frustrations with Apple Support are of no interest, nor is your unhappiness. I don't work for Apple, no one here does. But I know something of iPhoto and am often happy to help other users. That said, users who simply whine and are argumentative soon prove tiresome and I quickly lose interest.

  • PSE 11 People & Face tags & Metadata

    Hi All,
I'm using PSE 11 and have imported some photos that were being used in Photo Gallery.  My problem is the People/Face tags done in Photo Gallery are not recognised by PSE at all.  It detected all other tags OK and imported them but not the People ones.  It seems (logically) that 'real' People tags are in a different metadata field than normal tags.  However the People tags in PSE are just stored in the 'normal' metadata tags field.
So.. I guess I am asking if anyone knows of a way to get the people tags from metadata into the tags field which PSE will recognise in the same was as its face recon?  NB: I am aware of ways I can filter and retag but we are talking about 15,000 family history photos
I'm a little baffled that PSE is not making use of the metadata People field at all - might help get rid of all those nasty breezedata files.  But I guess they need a few ways to try to lock people into PSE once they go there.  BTW I've been using since the old V1 photoshop album.  Never found enough of anything 'great' enough to move but always 'baffled' by things PSE does, doesn't do, takes away or breaks each release never with a patch or update.
So any way to move data from People tag to Tags tag that still takes the face location?
    Thanks,
    Flano

There is no conversion process because the people module is new to PSE11.
Importing from earlier versions simply brings in key words.
You need to decide if you want to stick with your key words and get this:
Or fully use the new feature and get suggested people stacks:

  • Removed face tags in iPhoto remain on Facebook

    Hello,
I have published pictures with face tags to Facebook. Adding new faces to the picture in iPhoto works just fine, the changes appear on Facebook. However, when I delete faces from pictures in iPhoto, the tags don't get removed from the Facebook page.
I did click on the sync-symbol next to the published albums name.
Has anyone similar problems with Facebook synchronization?
    Thanks for any help.

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

  • Face Tagging in Elements 13

    Hi Forum
Can anyone help to explain why the Auto Face Tagging process (Add People) in Elements 13 would not find what are obvious faces in images containing very clear faces? The faces are 'face on' and large in size and yet Elements reports- No new People found in your selection.
Any help welcome as not keen to have to manually tag a few thousand images.
    Regards
    David

    Hi David,
Thank you for the very detailed reply. I appreciate you taking the time to list it all out.
I followed each of these steps exactly as listed. After I copied the images back, PSE13 saw them and then I tried to add a face. It analyzed the photo and it still says "No New People Found In Your Selection". I removed the tags, renames the Breeze file, deleted from the catalog, everything.
I was so hoping that this would have corrected it.
And now PSE13 is starting it's memory leak (that I reported in a different post).
Whenever it analyzes a photo and doesn't find anything, it goes into a loop, leaking memory until the app eventually crashes because of no memory left. Other running apps die as well. And I have 16GB of RAM.
Thanks again for your help. I will keep researching.

  • ADF Faces: is mixing JSF RI and ADF Faces tags supported?

    Hi,
I'm looking at ADF Faces as a future possibility for our application that is currently based on JSF RI.
When looking at the ADF Faces demo it strikes me that all pages are almost completely built up from ADF Faces tags.
    For instance
    af:form
    af:commandButton
    af:inputText
are used instead of the equivalent core jsf tags f:form, f:commandButton and f:inputText
I'm wondering if this is mandatory if we would like to use some ADF Faces components mixed within our existing application.
In other words: are ADF Faces tags supported in the environment of conventional JSF tags? And mixing ADF Faces JSF components with JSF components by other vendors?
Another thing that strikes me is that pages are constructed using ADF Faces tags for any and all markup content.
I guess this is meant to support several different clients (normal browser applications, mobile clients, voice activation over telephone) using different renderers.
In my experience abstracting markup this way inherently means loss of control over the exact markup that is sent to the client. This is not acceptable for all projects and customers.
Is embedding ADF Faces tags within template HTML, within f:verbatim tags or not, supported?
    Regards,
    Joost de Vries

You absolutely can mix JSF RI and ADF Faces tags. This is very much supported! You can swap in <h:form> and <h:commandButton> and <h:inputText>. Our versions support some features that the JSF tags do not, as described in our release notes.
Your point about using tags to produce all markup is a very cogent one. For some projects, absolute control over HTML will be a necessary requirement, so we do support that style of development. But we believe strongly that the future does not lie in constant handcoding of HTML, but instead in building more powerful, flexible, and reusable components and assembling those into pages. This was one of the themes of a talk I gave with two coworkers at this past JavaOne.

  • ITunes has face tags that it doesn't exist in iPhoto

I was trying to sync photos to my iPhone 5s via iTunes. But I found out there is a face tag that it doesn't exist in iPhoto. Is there a way to delete the face in the iTunes?

This happened to me also, a few days ago... I went to look at pics that were sent from just one person, all the other photos that people texted are there during same time period.  It is only this one contacts several photos that disappeared...   There is an arrow when I click on it it goes to a blank page?!?   Have you received any feedback or answers??  Did your photos  that are missing come from only one person or multiple?  If you have any information that might help let me know!!!  I really want them back!!  Thanks much!

  • IPhoto Faces Preview Lost after Recovery...??!

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
After an iPhoto Database Issue, I restored a Time Machine backup and everything is again up and running on my iPhoto 9.5.1 without any errors.
However, when checking Faces I had the bad surprise to notice that the 95% of them is black. It looks like all the references are there since I have the list of all faces and if I click each of them I have a correct number of related photos. However they are all black if I keep the selector "Faces-Photos" on the top right selected to faces. On the contrary, if I switch it to Photos I have the correct photos shown. If I go to Info of each photo I can see the correct tag to the correct face. However, if I go back to "Face", almost all the preview goes back black...
This is very strange to me... anything you suggest to do? I have not tried yet to avoid doing something wrong but I was thinking to cmd-option open iPhoto and select the rebuild of photo icons...

    That's what I would do.

  • Faces Tags Gone - After New iMac Purchase

    Hello. First time posting here.
This week, I purchased a new iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and used the Setup Assistant to transfer data from my old iMac (G5 non-Intel).
All my iPhoto images transferred fine to the new machine. However, none of the Faces tags seemed to have made the transfer. When I click on the Faces view, I see an empty cork board with the "To get started with Faces..." instructions.
Any ideas on how to retrieve the Faces tags from my old machine? (I have the old machine backed up through Time Capsule as well.)
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your help.
After going back to my old machine, I saw that actually my Faces tags were missing there too. I must have somehow deleted them while trying solve another iPhoto issue I'm having. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2253634)
So there were no Faces tags to transfer to the new machine.
Restoring from an older backup of my iPhoto Library did the trick. I now have all my old Faces tags back.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • No faces tag support for Flickr (aka faces don't = keyword)

Though iPhoto keywords have been always passed along fine to Flickr (using FlickrExport plugin in the past) the Faces info is not passed along as Flickr tags (keywords, however, are passed along as tags). What good does this do me once I've gone through all the facial recognition steps and want to share this insight with my Flickr following? Am I missing something?

    Terence Devlin wrote:
I wouldn’t think either of these things.
Why wouldn't you think that? I have to agree w/ Reuben, especially since this is the default behavior for iPhoto 09's built in export to Facebook! It mimics the native FB photo/face tagging verbatim. . .
Screenshot of a photo I exported (after being facially recognized) from iPhoto '09 after being imported into FB:
    http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll78/elvisinvegas/Picture1-1.jpg
So yes, I think it's bordering on absurd that iPhoto faces don't produce Flickr tags from faces(or at least give us that option) or do the mouse-over-note capability that Reuben was referring to. . .especially since it can and does for Facebook.

  • PSE7 Faces tagging doesn't work (No items are selected)

    Hi,
I try to use the Faces tagging feature in PSE 7 (with windows vista 32bit sp1) but it doesn't work.
For some reasons, the faces tagging interface never display the photos I've selected. In the lower left corner, it says "No items are selected".
I tried selecting zero, one or more photos in the photo browser. When I select zero photos, it asks me if I want to find faces on all the displayed picture (I have about 5 000 pictures) but none appears in the faces tagging interface.
The menu item Find->Find Faces for tagging and the button Face Faces for Tagging give the same result (doesn't work).
    Can anyone help me?
    Cheers,
    Alexandre

    Hi,
Thanks for the help, but it did not work :(
    I tried two times:
    1) The repair command said it did not find any error and I said No to "Repair anyway", then optimized.
    2) Same thing, but I said yes to Repair anyway with the Visually similar content checkbox checked.
    Cheers,

  • Face-tagging

    Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to zoom in on a photo while face tagging. I have some photos with large groups of people but their faces are quite small and close together compared to the image. I know I can tag with just the name but I really want to use face-tagging. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I don't think zooming is allowed while applying face tags. Suggestions will be useful but i don't think you'll be shown suggestions for all faces if they are too small. You will have to apply face rectagles and name the people.
    Thanks

All of the data should be on your computer, simply sync it back.
If the update was done via iTunes on the computer, the first step in the process is a backup of the device.
