All files classified as "OTHER" after sync

I was syncing my iPod tonight and iTunes made me restore it and now the iPod says I have no songs but 9GB of "OTHER"?! When looking in iTunes...it shows mostly blue for audio...but the ipod shows ZERO music. I've had it for less than a year... Anyone know how to fix this? I've restored it 4 or 5 times and it keeps doing the same thing.... I never had any problems syncing before.

I tried this and I also upgraded my iphone. The data summary in itunes is showing up correctly, but it still won't sync. Also, I have 1154 songs in my itunes library and the data summary says there is 1154 songs on my iphone. When I go to the music app on my iphone and scroll to the bottom of the songs list, it says 1149 songs. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Accidently deleted all files on internal storage and synced new files to internal storage

    Hi
I was setting up FolderSync to sync some folders to my phones internal storage. My mistake was to choose the root of the internal storage, which deleted all files files and synced the folders to the internal storage. I've tried to factory reset the phone, to recreate folders and files originally placed on the internal storage, but no luck. I've only used the phone a couple of days, and didn't wanna spend time on trying to recover folders/files, since I guessed that syncinf files to internal storage would damage the "old" files anyway. Is it possible to recreate the internal storage to the state when I first used the phone? For example the demo videos and sample pictures don't reappear when I do a factory reset (also placing the tick for deleting the internal storage).

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After doing full factory reset your phone will be clean and ready to use with root folder recreated. But... demo videos and sample pictures are not part of firmware. It is region dependent content available only until phone is factory cleaned or user deletes them.
So to recover those files you need to find other user with the same phone as yours and kindly ask him to share those files with you (if sharing such files is legal in your country).

  • IPhone 2.0 shows content as "Other" after syncing

Upgraded to 2.0 At first all was well. With nothing else changed, when I now try to sync with Itunes 7.7, all music and video content shows as "Other" on the summary tab. On my iPhone, no music or video shows up existing under Playlists, Artists, etc. I have to completely restore my iPhone each time I sync, which takes over 90 minutes. (Even if I unselect playlists, then sync, the original amount of space used by my content still shows as used "Other" space, so I must restore, then add the playlists back in, sync without ever disconnecting my iPhone, then it will be fine until I want to sync again)
    Tech info:
    * Plugged into USB 2.0 port, directly into computer (have even tried different ports)
*I have uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version of iTunes
    * Windows Vista SP2
    * Not using Exchange - very basic iPhone configuration
    * Have tried resetting iPhone as well

The space used by my music and video content "turns" into the 6+GB of "Other" after I Sync. Again, once I restore, this 6GB of space is correctly my content, until I sync again.
So yes, obviously something isn't right. Any suggestions?

  • Only a few of my music files on my iPhone after syncing

I have my entire iTunes library on an external hard drive. After my PC kicked the bucket last week I purchased a new Mac Book Pro and uploaded my entire music library from the external hard drive. The music made it onto my computer just fine and is sitting in my Library on iTunes but for some reason every time I sync it I only end up with about 5 of my files (16 gba in all) on my iPhone.
I just don't understand what could be causing this. My external hard drive is no longer connected to my Mac and yet I can still see and play all of my music in my Library. I have made sure to click the little button saying that I want to sync my music etc. but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Lost all files and applications installed after changing user profile in the registry of windows 8.1 pc

The original user profile on my windows 8.1 pc is C:\Apple\acer sm. I tried changing it to C:\Apple\Apple. After I rebooted my PC, I found out that all my files and applications are lost. What shall I do to recover them?
Your help would save my life. Thank you!

    Hi AppleMist,
We wonder if you changed the registry entry or path of user profile.
If you did that in registry please try changing it back.
After changing your user profile and reboot, system won’t read the profile you changed but a new user profile (C:\Apple\acer sm or TEMP) should be created by system. Try renaming this new one as acer sm.old and changing the apple back to acer sm.
It should works fine if you didn’t change file in profile, if it doesn’t work perform a system restore.

  • Is it possible to install CAB file on PPC device after sync?

    Hello everyone,
I've been working with Oracle Lite for over a year and a half now developing a PocketPC application. It's working well and expanding fast. As such we have many application updates that happen every few days. Right now we distribute the application by packaging everything (.NET framework, Oracle Lite client and our application) in a desktop installer. This works great except that it doesn't work well with our quick update schedule.
So my question is what is the simplest way (if at all possible) to distribute our application CAB file through the mobile server. Basically all I need is to have the client download the new CAB file, uninstall the old version and then execute the CAB file and install the new application. Nothing fancy I think. I would prefer if it would be as simple as dropping the CAB file in some folder on the mobile server. I've read something about INF files in the documentation but as usual that is way too brief to make it useful.
If anyone can let me know how I can do this I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Hi, I'm also developing for PPC platform on Oracle Lite. Did you consider deploying the application as a plain set of files? When I was making the decision whether to CAB or not to CAB, I decided not to use CAB deployment and deploy our application as a plain set of files with installation steps described in the setup.inf file you mentioned. We also perform updates frequently, but we almost never update all the modules - just one of two files at the moment which makes quite small amount of data in comarison with the huge CAB which would need to be transfered to the device if we use the CAB deployment.
The documentation contains some useful information about the setup.inf format - it's quite easy to understand and use. First of all you have to create a JAR package (which is just renamed zip file) containing your application files plus the setup.inf file and web.xml file. Than you have to publis this application using the mobile server web interface. After this initial step, mobile server creates a directory for your application in {OLITE_HOME}\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver. If you wish to publish a new version of your application than, you just copy the new files (or single CAB) and increment the version number in setup.inf file.
I think you can find setup.inf and web.xml samples in the forum's history. If you won't be able to find them, I can post some examples....

  • All apps have stopped working after syncing with itunes

    Hello everyone,
Extremely frustrated to find that after plugging my iphone into my comp for the first time since i've had it (about 3 months). I knew I had a good reason for avoiding plugging my iphone into the comp, because I have 2 other ipods and hate the way itunes tries to take over and do everything. No, i'm quite happy to manual manage the files on it. Especially when irritating things like this happen.
So I plugged it in for the first time on Saturday, and guess what, now NONE of my apps work anymore. Seems to be a common problem that no one at apple cares to admit. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8294502) this old thread details the problem I am having. Now the apps start to open and close and dont work. Awesome.
I would've been more than happy to eat humble pie if i'd done ANYTHING dodgy to this iphone, but I haven't, and apples OWN device controlling application destroyed the functionality of the device, which I now have to figure out how to fix myself. Of course, apple wouldn't have any documentation on this issue.
Its sad really as up till now Ive had a flawless experience with the device and enjoyed everything about it, mostly how it works so well and everything is easy to do. Extremely irritated about this - will be telling everyone who cares about this experience.
Now, apple, or more like apples forum goers, how do i fix what itunes has done???

Three days and no response, 3 others mentionining same problem.
Apple clearly do not care about customers or have any interests in bug fixing their own software. This is clearly a widespread problem which has nothing to do with user software, the bug is in iTunes and apple dont even care to admit it or fix it. It doesn't even look like they monitor their support forums at all!
I was considering buyign a macbook. Ha ha ha. Good luck. Not anymore.
Have even called support and Apple are USELESS and I will not forget this experience, as will my friends.
My advice? Get an android phone... we all know that it will only take a month or two till google gets a much bigger app library. Hey and guess what - they'll let you maintain your phone manually if you want, and dont force you through some stupid clunky, resource intensive, bug filled program which makes everything stop working. Exactly what it did to me on first connection.

  • All my apps are missing after syncing???

After trying to update all my apps, I had my husband sync my Iphone to my ibook. Everything went fine, when I disconnected my Iphone, I found that all the apps I had purchased (or that were free) were missing from my phone. My husband and I played a bit with it and re-syncing it, we found that my apps are not stored on my laptop either (unless they are hidden somewhere.) However, I found under the App icon a list of all my husband's iphone apps waiting to be installed on my iphone.
My questions: what happened to my apps? Will I have to reinstall all of my apps and then repay for them? How did my Iphone get his apps waiting to be installed on my iphone? (he has his own ibook computer that he syncs his own phone to). Are all my apps somewhere on my computer/iphone, but just hidden? And if so, how do I get to them?
Thanks...I've never used this Apple Support - hope someone can help!
    Elaine

Is it just your apps or is other media missing too? Are the apps still in the ...\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications folder?

  • HT1386 Photo albums replacing each other after syncing

There's something wrong with my photos when ever I sync them into my iPod touch (5th gen). Let's say I upload album A into my iPod, everything is fine and I can see the album in my Photo app. Then I upload album B, the album replaces album A! And vice versa if I want to upload back album A! What's going on? What can I do to save all my albums and not let them replace each other?

You can only Sync one photos folder with the iPod Touch.
However - the solution is simple.
Create a folder named (for example) "Touch Pictures". (Name it whatever you prefer.)
Drag and drop album A (which presumably is a folder of its own) into the "Touch Pictures" folder.
Drag album B into the "Touch Pictures" folder. (You now have two sub-folders inside the Touch pictures folder.)
Sync iPod with your iTunes Library.
On a subsequent occasion, add album C to the "Touch Pictures" folder.
Sync iPod with your iTunes Library.
When you look at Photos on your iPod Touch, you will now see separate "folders":
    Photo Library
    album A
    album B
    album C
The first one - Photo Library will contain every picture as one folder. The other "folders" - album A, album B and album C will each contain only the pictures for that folder.
On my 2nd generation Touch, the list also displays the number of pictures in the folder, but I believe later version of the iOS have dropped this.

  • I have lost all my documents and previous downloads after syncing mac with my ipad4. Is there a way to retrieve the lost data. I have backed up my laptop on the icloud

I have lost all my documents and downloads after syncing my macpro with the Ipad4. I do backup my devices on the icloud can I retrieve the lost documents?

You lost them from the iPad, or from the Mac(Book) Pro?
If you lost them from the iPad, yes, you can restore your last backup from iCloud. Settings - iCloud - Backup - Restore.
Note that you can always re-download apps from the App Store, and music from the iTunes Store, for free, if they are accidentally deleted.

  • Multiple devices on same account - how to transfer ALL files in one place?

    Hi,
I am using my Apple ID on 5 apple devices, incl. 2 laptops and Mac. Need to migrate all files to one computer for syncing with iPhone and cut out some devices, but...
Question 1:  How I can move ALL my music files from old MB Pro (runs Mac OS X 10.5.8) with iTunes 10 to Mac (runs Mac OS X 10.9.2) with iTunes 11.1.5?
Note, this includes songs purchased outside of iTunes and burnt from CDs. Is it possible to somehow easily identify the songs that are missing on Mac and copy just them from the old computer, but without manually comparing? For now for whatever reason Mac only has 401 songs vs my old MB Pro has 1670+ songs. So, please suggest how to make the import on the missing songs to Mac as efficient as possible.
Question 2: How do I deauthorize the device once I copy my old music to Mac? Currently only see the button "Deathorize All" in iTunes on Mac. What if I want to choose which computers I still want to be able to stay on the same Apple ID in iTunes?
    Thanks a lot!!

Decide which Mac is your primary. On the Mac that is not the primary - create a folder on the desktop - drag all the tunes from iTunes into that folder - copy that folder to an ext HD or a memory stick.
Plug into the primary Mac and tell iTunes to import all the tunes from the folder.
iTunes has good sort options so it won't take long to get rid of the duplicates using the Show Duplicates from the View dropdown menu.
An alternative would be to check at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/ and see if there is a script that will take care of what you want.

  • HT1386 I deleted all my photos in the Camera Roll folder,I created separate folders containing all my pisctures. When I sync my iPhone it shows that all the pictures are loaded. But nothing displays on my phone?

    Hey Guys,
I need some advice. I had about 9000 pitures and photos in my camera roll folder.
I wanted to manage all these pictures into separate folders for easier access.
I imported all the pictures onto my pc, and created and managed the pics.
I synced the phone and excluded the photos,as advised on the site.
The I disconnected the phone, connected again and included the pictures.
On the coclour tab it indicates that all the pictures are there, after syncing,
but on my phone, nothing appears.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way of importing my pictures
onto the phone and keeping the separate folders?
    Thanks,

If you don't find an iTunes backup as suggested above, another possibility is that the phone was setup to automatically back up to iCloud. You can go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage to see if your device name is listed there. If it is, the section titled "How do I restore an iCloud Backup if my device is already set up for use?" in the following link gives directions on how to resore it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036
Also, I'm sorry to hear you lost 5 years of pictures. Having them in one place (as you unfortunately found out) is not a good idea as all kinds of things can happen including loss of the phone. If you have a computer it is a good idea to periodically import them to the computer where you can see that they have successfully transferred to a second location. Following is instructions on how to do that if you want to in the future: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

  • Entire library of music erased off ipod after sync

Ipod touch 5th gen 32 gb running IOS 8.2
For the 4th time since updating to IOS 8.2, whenever i try to add new music to my ipod through itunes, when the ipod syncs with itunes, ALL of my music is erased off the ipod.
Manually manage music and videos is selected. I do not have itunes/ipod automatically sync music. I have "prevent devices from syncing automatically" enabled.
So heres the basic rundown of what happens.
    1-upload music to ipod
    2-let music copy over
    3-upload more music to ipod
    4-ipod/itunes begin sync
5-syncing stops without copying music over
6-all music vanishes off ipod after sync "completes"
looking at my ipod music list in itunes, it shows all my music. when you click on them to play them, ! shows up next to ALL songs.
when you look at the music on the ipod itself, nothing is there.
this is what it looks like for the music that has be synced before, that has suddenly disappeared

from my experience, the music is still there. the database is screwed up when itunes recognizes the music, but the ipod doesnt see it.
what ive discovered, after the database crashes and everything is gone, see if you can find this info out. anytime ive had this issue, there are normally a few songs that wont copy over and itunes says "could not convert"(i have itunes setup to convert songs of high bitrate to aac 128kbps). when i go to delete those songs(because they show up on the ipod, but are greyed out), thats when the database crashes, and everything vanishes.
my fix for this issue is this:
unplug ipod from computer and turn off
    close itunes
    restart ipod
    open itunes
    plug in ipod
    sync ipod with itunes
copy over one or two of failed songs
watch itunes start to sync, sit at "waiting for changes to be applied" for a few minutes
watch all my missing music reappear(over the course of about 10 hours, takes a few minutes to recopy 4000 songs)
annoying and frustrating, but until apple can recognize this issue and put a fix in, this is the best solution i can think of besides throwing my ipod at the wall and fix the solution permanently. but that wont get me very far because of my lifeproof case.
