All files lost

2 days ago while working in lightroom i got an error that my photo was no longer available. Upon searching in my photos folder I found that ALL my photos were missing. I pulled them back in off of my backup drive and was working on them yesterday when the same error message came up and again my photos were gone, as well as all other documents on my hard drive as well as all of my itunes music. This is alot of files. I have everything backed up but I'm am trying to figure out how I can suddenly lose EVERYTHING! ***!
Any help or suggestions?

Something you either did ON the Mac, or a problem WITH the Mac caused you to lose the data a second time.
1. Safeguard the data on the external backup,....do you know how to find the data on the TM backup?  If so do you have a second HD to copy photos and files to before going further?
2. As to the Mac further information is needed for someone here to diagnose your Mac as to what you did, OR what is going on with same.
After 1 and 2, in the future always always have 2 copies of your data, not just a time machine backup, which is an emergency backup, NOT an archive of data you DONT DARE LOSE.

  • Removed apple ID from computer.  Are all files lost?

When my iMac was initially setup, I used an apple ID that is no longer in use (It was current at the time, but I created a new joint account recently).  The apple ID was just unlinked from the computer, which prompted a new setup for the computer with me logging in with the new apple ID.
I did not have a time machine backup setup, but I noticed when I was setting up with the new ID, that there was a "locked" hard drive section that I could not access that might have my old files.
Is there a way to see if that locked part of the hard drive is still available?  Or are all of my files lost?  Is there a way to log in with the old apple ID which could get that system back to the way it was?  I have backups for word documents and files, but I would like to avoid having to re-install all of my programs and re-downloading music and videos.
    Thank you

You need to use the same Apple ID and password for both devices.

  • Big problem - all files lost due to login error!

    Hi,
I recently installed Leopard, and I enabled the Guest account in System Preferences. Yesterday, I booted up my Macbook, and accidently logged in as Guest (instead of as myself). Instead of displaying the Guest's desktop, OS X seemed to crash, and, after a while, the Login-window reappeared.
I then just logged in as myself, and everything seemed all right.
I worked for a couple of hours, and I wanted to log out, but I got the warning that I was logged in as a Guest and that all files in my home directory would be deleted. I was, however, not logged in as guest. I stupidly clicked ok, and logged out.
An hour or so later, I logged in again, only to discover that all my files were gone! That is: not only the guest account, but also the administrator account was completely wiped out!
Luckily I could use Time Machine to restore a backup quite easily, but I was quite scared!
I think this is a serious bug, and just wanted to let you know to take care when enabling the Guest account.

You is using a DBLINK and that username/password is incorrect.
if you don't know what DBLINK is using, you can query the DBA_DB_LINKS:
    SQL> desc dba_db_links;
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    OWNER                                     NOT NULL VARCHAR2(30)
    DB_LINK                                   NOT NULL VARCHAR2(128)
    USERNAME                                           VARCHAR2(30)
    HOST                                               VARCHAR2(2000)
    CREATED                                   NOT NULL DATE
after that you need recreate it:
    conn / as sysdba
    create public database link <TARGET_DB_NAME> using '<TARGET_DB_NAME>';
    conn strmadmin/strmadmin@<SOURCE_DB_NAME>
    create database link <TARGET_DB_NAME> connect to strmadmin identified by strmadmin;

  • Safari blocks, shutdown the computer, all files lost.

I'm new to Mac's and I was simply ecstatic till yesterday.
Safari went down during normal internet activity. Since I didn't now what to do and Safari wasn't responding to anything, I just closed all others applications and shut down the Mac (it is a knock-out, but it usually works with Windows).
After restarting, all my files that were created or modificated till the previous day were gone. Also, some things like dock preferences were changed to default.
I can only be happy to the fact I had the Mac for just one week, so i didn't lost too many things. But it's a problem that makes me really uncomfortable in doing anything with my MacBook.
    So, what happened?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

To properly close an app that is not responding use:
    Command-OPtion-Escape keys
A window will open showing all running apps (and those not responding). Highlight the offender and "Force Quit".

  • Palm 111c battery died all files lost

this has been a horrible time for me. my desktop died and i didnt install palm 111c software to my laptop  i didnt want to fill up my laptop. my battery died on the palm pilot and when i recharged it my address book was empty. i have lost ALL my passwords 10 years worth how can i get them back?
    Post relates to: Palm IIIc

Sorry floydgene, if you lost the Hotsync files on the desktop computer, there is nothing left.
I hardly think Palm Desktop would be close to filling up a laptop.
The Volatile RAM on older Palm devices has to have battery charge to remember any data.  No charge, and the data turns to zeros...
This is why Palm Inc. stresses the importance of regular Hotsyncs to save your valuable data.

  • Updated software - All files lost

I updated my ipod touch to the latest software. Before updating I right-clicked on the ipod icon and clicked "back up." After the software was installed I right-clicked the ipod icon and clicked "restore from backup." My music and media were never restored, although my notes and other files seem to be intact. How can I restore my media? If it's lost for good, what did I do wrong?

    @ilovesymbian
Whenever Ovi Maps updated from v3.04 to 3.06 old mapping data has to be deleted, if Ovi Suite > Maps won't deliver latest map data for any reason it could always be installed manually by direct download!

  • I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes deletes all data

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

  • Recovery with RMAN in case of complete lost of all files

    Hi,
I am using RMAN in nocatalog mode to backup my databases to tape using the RMAN-Module for Legato.
I4ve read that in case of loosing all my controlfiles i cannot easily restore the controlfiles.
    Lets assume the following scenario:
I am performing a daily full backup with RMAN in nocatalog mode. Approx. 2 hours after the completed backup my machine crashes and all files (i.e. OS-Files, Database, Controlfiles) are lost.
Now I have to reinstall the OS, reinstall Oracle and restore the backup.
Due to backups made with RMAN in nocatalog mode i have the restore the controlfies prior to restore the database. Metalink says restoring the controlfile from RMAN in nocatalog mode is not that easy.
Is there any way to restore the controlfile from RMAN in nocatalog mode in case of complete crash ??
    Thanks.
    Ronny.

RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM 'filename...' doesn't appear to be supported in 8i.
What are the options for 8i?.
I have the backup sets with me from my previous installation before crash which also contains Control files.
However I am unclear as to how to proceed wit RMAN recovery with those files. There seems to be no way to point RMAN to those backupsets since RMAN apparently reads its information from catalog or the control file in case of nocatalog.
I think if there is a way to atleast restore the control file from the backup set, RMAN can proceed since it will find all the other backup details there.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

lost all files in crash while install of at&t internet gateway

Thanks. I will try this. My previous machine was running Vista and I
rarely compacted folders. NEVER had a problem. Apparently
Win 8.1 is more sensitive to this.

  • Idisk empty, lost all files

Can someone urgently help me out here.
I am a frequent and enthusiastic user of multiple Apple devices (iMac, Macbook, iPad, iPhone, iPod) but when I gave my old Macbook to my nephew I decided to delete all files, even on the local Macbook iDisk file. I forgot to logout first so I am afraid I synced from the MacBook to all other devices hence I am lost now. No more files in iDisk, zero, empty!!!!!
How to retreive? Is there some sort of old iDisk backup file?
    Regards,
    PJ

No.  But you can get the files back on your current mac (assuming they were there before) by restoring from your Time Machine backup.
