All fonts missing in Linotype Fontexplorer X

Hi,
Can anyone help? I use Linotype FontExplorer X for font management (I have 1900+ fonts installed but have less than 100 active at any one time). I have been using it successfully for years, mainly, with Indesign (also Photoshop & Illustrator - CS4). I last used InDesign 12 days ago with no problems but when I opened a regularly used file today, my fonts were missing. I opened Linotype and every font except the system fonts is missing. I use Time Machine so have restored the User/FontExplorer X/Font Library folder but is there any way to tell Linotype where the fonts folder is without having to reinstall each font individually, I tried restarting Linotype but it didn't locate the folder.
Thanks in advance
CB

That 'gulp' worries me!
I've just 'Time Machined' back to Sept 2009 and those 3 files are the only ones that ever show up in that location.
The .db file is 1.9mb and last modified/accessed last night when I restored the Font Library folder and reinstalled a few fonts to make sure it worked.
Are the other files you listed important?  Is it a problem that I don't have and seem never to have had them?
I thought once I had restored the Font Library all would be ok, I'm just looking for a way to tell Linotype where the Font Library folder is so I don't need to install all the fonts and delete the ones it's not recognising (I'm thinking of something like the 're-link' for an image in InDesign when you move something to a different location)

  • See a list of all the missing fonts in document?

Ive been sent a Photoshop document by someone but some of the fonts are missing.
If I double click on a layer that is missing a font Im told what the font is. This can be time consuming so is there a way of seeing a list of all the missing fonts in a document?
    thanks

    Ann,
In Acrobat Pro 9, go to: File --> Properties... --> Fonts
I recommend that you ask further Acrobat questions in the Acrobat forum where those pros hang out. Thanks.

  • Illustrator CS2 Crashes - Have removed all fonts - still crashing on open

    Greetings,
I use Illustrator occasionally and cannot afford to buy al new right now. Plus I am afraid it might not solve the problem if old stuff is still on my computer.
I guess I could reinstall everything but please see below to see what I have done, perhaps I am missing something.
I am on an iMac with OS X 10.6.6
Illustrator stalls when reading fonts on open.
I downloaded mutliple fonts recently  (no not the Zebra one) not realizing it could crash my Illustrator. I also downloaded a few brushes for photoshop and patterns. I work on a Mac and even used my timeline to restore to before the date in question.
Have read as many forums posts as I can, tried multiple ideas:
Removed all fonts in user/library/fonts and macintosh/library/fonts
Have disabled half the fonts, all the fonts, have deleted the ones I know I downloaded the other day when this happened.
Deleted original Illustrstor and reinstalled it. (have not tried deleting all of CS 2 yet)
    Removed adobe plist files.
    Removed Work Flow file
used my back up files to exaclty match font lists before the crash.
Photoshop is working fine. Thank you for any and all help.

    Sheree,
    You may try either/both:
    1) Uninstall, use the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall;
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
    2) Move the folder (which removes the preferences), and/or Other options, see especially items 5 - 11.

  • Script to collect all fonts throw an assert in CS5 Debug. Have someone an idea to find the solution?

    Hello forum members,
Sorry for my english, this is not my native language.
I use a Script from http://www.typomedia.org/adobe/indesign/fontcatalog/ to get all fonts from %Systemroot%/Fonts and the font folder of InDesign and write a simple text with these fonts. To test the script I run it under CS5 and CS5 Debug. It found only 6 of over 900 fonts. In CS5 Debug any time I run the Script, I collect two times the assert:
JavaScriptDataConverter::ScriptDataToVariant - Untranslated key string: System Font
Eng: Script providers must return untranslated strings to INX and translated strings to scripting clients.
QE: Please report this assert as a 2/2 bug
    ..\..\..\source\components\script\javascript\JavaScriptDataConverter.cpp (101)
In my first step I consult the developer of the script, but he has no idea why I get the assert. He also test his script under InDesign CC but he has no problems.
My InDesign CS5 and CS5 Debug versions are installed on the same system Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP 1.
I think the assert is the reason I get only 6 fonts in the normal CS5 Version.
Maybe the problem occur, because its a Server System or there are interdependency with other components because its an developer machine.
Have someone an idea or a similar issue, how I can clear my problem?
    Thanks for your attention
    m.gmaz

The debug version is for developing plugins, so a script programmer need not know such details.
The assert is just a warning, you will still receive the string.
As you have the debug build, you should know that, and how to file a bug report / support case, but I doubt that bug fixes for CS5 will be handled with high priority - after all it is just an assert. OTOH if you can demonstrate that this also leads to broken INX files, that might ring a bell.
Iterating fonts by means of the file system is a less than stellar idea, for that purpose we have the app.fonts collection which also considers the other applicable locations - application specific fonts, document fonts, fonts provided by font activation programs, even fonts in some spurious location of the scripts folder and missing fonts. The font object also has a property for its file system path, if you really need that (writing your own package command?).

  • Symbol font missing problem

I have a Visio design containing symbols from Symbols font (in Windows) converted to PDF and then imported in the Illustrator CS 6. It says the symbol font missing and substitued with 'Myriad Pro', and those symbols are shown as crossed ('X'). As suggested in some posts, I tried to replace this font with <Symbol> font  (tried others as well) using 'Find Font', but it didn't replace. Can some one tell me a working solution, preferably the solution to the missing symbol font problem itself, if not a way to replace.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Raj

Placing seems to work even without flattening, but as you said cannot edit text anymore.
Regarding the other solution, that is where my problem was. I tried to assign the correct font  (and with some other fonts too just to check) to the text objects, but Illustrator doesn't seem to accept as the font remains the same 'Myriad Pro' all the time! It is infact what 'Find Font' does for font replacemet, if I understood correctly, but alas this too doesn't work.
Until there is no better solution, I can at least use the edit restricted place method for now! Thanks Monika for that.

  • User fonts vs all fonts

Hi- I am trying to fix an issue I have with creating a new user account and thought that it might be font related. So I opened up Font Book and Validated all the fonts and all was fine. I noticed though that some fonts under All are not under User. Would that make any difference? I am 'grasping at straws' here trying to troubleshoot the problem with not being able to create a new user account and thought maybe there was a font missing.......... Thanks for any help, Judy

Well, before I go into the description of what happens when I try to create a new user account, I will copy here what the Console log just reported when I last tried to create a new user account:

I know nothing about what it says unfortunately or if there might be a clue as to what is causing this problem. Anyway, I go into System Prefs to Accounts, click on the '+' sign, add a name, a short name and NO password (same thing happens when I add a password). Log out. Click on the newly created user and asks for my password, which I didn't use to create the account so I then click on just click on Login and the window shakes. Can't get past that window. So then I click on Back to get to my Admin account which works perfectly every time. Any ideas? I am using 10.4.9 on a G4. Repaired permissions. Run Disk Warrior. I will be grateful if you have any ideas. In the distant past I did create a new user account just to see how it worked and had no problem. Judy

  • Opera fonts missing/garbled? [solved]

I just did an Arch installation on my desktop out of curiosity, and it is FAST AS A MOTHER(rhymes with)TRUCKER ... now I can see what the whole rage was about!  I've been running it on my 233Mhz Dechutes laptop w/212MB ram and THAT runs well, man!!  2.35 Ghz really shows.
Anyway ... I have installed (via pacman) xorg, xfce4, opera, and some other misc stuff, and when using opera, I can't help but notice that there are fonts missing.  I have opera set to pop-up a progress bar at the bottom of the page as things load, and I see a lot of boxes, empty spaces, and sometimes kanji characters.  Also, in the transfers window, there is no text at all.  Like where the filename, size, etc. should be, there is just blank space.  Very weird.
Is anyone having a similar problem?  Is there a font pack that I should install or something?  Everything runs spankin ... except for opera.  And that still runs very spankin, just the fonts ... they don't.
    Thanks all!

    I had the same problem...
In opera no text in transfer window, in console - corrupted MC...
Fixed it by changing my locale=en_US.utf8 to en_US.85... can't remember exact numbers... You just edit /etc/locales.gen file - uncomment that en_US.85...... and then save and run locales-gen...
It workeg for me now i have a beautifull MC in console and everything else
    I'm using fluxbox...

  • Loaded font missing in Photoshop CS6

Loaded font active by opening file but while editing suddenly not active anymore. Photoshop therefore gives an error and refuses to save the file.
Fonts are not used in smart layers.
Working with Mac OS 10.6.8 and for fontmanagement Linotype FontExplorer X pro 3.5.4.
    Please, any suggestions?

Right, i'll do that. Problem is with multiple fonts, so... I thought maybe using windows truetype and other fonts? It looks to me there is a font id conflict. Also by researching the adobe forums I see the same problem mostly by windows users.
Problem is that the fontmanagement program after checking nothing says about fontconflicts.

  • Fonts missing in X11

I have been using X11 for some time now, mostly for GIMP. I have noticed before that not all my fonts were available in X11/GIMP, but didn't really care. I tought it had to do something with GIMP. Today I installed another X11 application (Inkscape) and I noticed the same lack of fonts.
I don't know much about X11 and I thought TrueType fonts were not compatible, but I checked some of the available fonts, and among them there are also TTF's.
Now I guess that only fonts I installed recently are missing.
To make a long story short, I don't get it. Has anyone encountered this problem and - better - has a solution? (Maybe copying fonts to another directory?)
    Thanks in advance.

In MacOS X, fonts can be found in three different places: /System/Library/Fonts (default system fonts, best left unmolested to avoid system instability), /Library/Fonts (general purpose fonts available to all) and /Users/<user>/Library/Fonts (personal fonts only available to that particular user). Issues can arise like for example installing fonts with one account and having them be placed in that account's Fonts folder, then not finding them when using another account. Or having fonts with the same name (maybe different versions) duplicated in the previously mentioned directories.
First step would be to run Font Book, located in Applications, and do a Resolve Duplicates on its Edit menu. Then click on All Fonts in the Collection column, click on any font in the Font column, do a Select All from the Edit menu so all fonts are highlighted, then do a Validate Fonts from the File menu. Review any serious problem, if found, disabling or removing the appropiate font file. Like I mentioned before, font files found inside /System/Library/Fonts should best be left alone, disable or delete fonts from the other directories; these fonts were placed by Apple in the base O.S. installation and are generally trouble-free.

  • Fonts missing in HyperStudio

We use a program called HyperStudio in our lab. It is a multimedia program for students. It uses text in 'Text Objects'. We have been experiencing missing text from the object on the launch of the program. A restart of the computer fixes the issue. The developers cannot replicate the issue so they think it may be something on our computers. We have replaced all fonts, run font validation, font finagler, rebuilt permissions, run disk warrior and still the problem persists. Does anyone have any idea what would cause a font issue.
On another note we had some issues with students not being able to use the log out in the apple menu, the replacing of the fonts seems to have fixed that. Could be related.
Thanks for your expert advice in advance.

    Perhaps some caches, I'd Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Then do step 3 for every user.

  • Top of Verdana font missing in Safari 6

Ever since upgrading to ML and Safari 6, everytime Verdana is featured on a webpage the top mm or so is missing.
The same pages look fine in Firefox and show Verdana correctly.
I've checked my fonts and I'm on using the default system Verdana font.
The problem seems especially bad in many internet forums.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • Adobe TrueType fonts missing from created PDF

When I create a PDF file everything comes through perfectly except the Adobe TrueType font text is missing (Adobe Garamond Pro). This used to work. File looks good on screen and prints fine.
If I switch to Garamond the PDF is created perfectly, now including all missing text.

Note that Adobe's Garamond Pro fonts are not TrueType fonts. They are OpenType CFF fonts.
In fact, that may be the key to why they are not embedded in your PDF files.
First, contrary to the response of Bill@VT, although the Standard joboptions for Adobe's PDF creation tools do not embed all fonts, the fonts that are not embedded are in an exception list. Using those joboptions, members of the Adobe Garamond Pro font family should properly embed in PDF files created either by (a) printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance under Windows, (b) using the native PDF export from Adobe graphic arts applications (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) as long as you don't use the Smallest Size joboptions, or (c) when using Microsoft Office applications, you use the Adobe PDFMaker option for PDF creation, Save as Adobe PDF again as long as you don't use the Smallest Size joboptions.
That having been said, the fact that the Garamond fonts (I assume that you are referring to the TrueType Garamond font family that Microsoft bundles with Windows and Office) embeds and Adobe Garamond Pro font don't embed leads me to believe that your real problem is that you are creating PDF by using the fairly defective save as PDF which is native to Microsoft Office on Windows. One of a number of bugs or limitations in Microsoft's PDF creation is that although it embeds TrueType fonts and OpenType TrueType fonts, it fails to embed OpenType CFF fonts. Not only doesn't Microsoft embed those fonts in the PDF file, but it improperly references the fonts in the generated PDF file such that when you display and/or print such PDF files, even if you have Adobe Garamond Pro installed on your system, those fonts are not used for display or print. (We have informed Microsoft of this bug, but they are apparently not interested in fixing their bug!)
If you already have Acrobat installed on your system, use the Save as Adobe PDF (from the file screen) or Create Adobe PDF from the Acrobat tab on the Office ribbon. Set the preferences to at least Standard, but preferably Hiqh Quality Print joboptions and you will end up with a proper PDF with the Adobe Garamond Pro (or any OpenType fonts) properly embedded)!

  • All fonts in all internet browsers are showing bold.

All fonts in all internet browsers are showing bold. Anyone has a clue as to what I might have done wrong?

Upon carefully looking at the fonts in my fontbook, I noticed that the font which is commonly used on the websites was missing all other kinds except its bold version. How did they get deleted beats me. Anyhow, I have now installed the regular, italic, and bold-italic versions of the font and it is all back to normal. ccccc

  • Fonts missing – though I'm 100% sure I'm not using them

    Hi,
I've got a Keynote file, which I'm sure is only using one font ("Lato" from google fonts). Every time I open it, it says it's missing 2 more fonts (Cantarell and SourceSansPro).
I'm 100% sure the fonts are absolutely nowhere in the template. Not on any slide, and not in any Styles Preset:
I checked all presets and they only use Lato.
I duplicated the Keynote file and deleted all slides and all master slides apart from one. All I have left is an empty, white slide with absolutely no elements on it. Save -> reopen -> still says it's fonts missing!!
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I created the file, but during the creation of the file, the Lato font was not installed – I'm 100% sure.
The square shape was copied over from another presentation I created. And THAT presentation was using the Lato font (though NOT in the shape I copied over). For the new presentation, I don't use Lato and I also don't want to have to install it. I don't want to run around in circles, particularly not with installing fonts on iOS.
Anyway – the square only serves as a simple example, in order to illustrate the problem in a concise way. There's a lot more shapes that I want to copy from the old "Lato" presentation to this new one. NONE of those shapes have any fonts or text inside them, yet they still come up with the "font missing" problem.
I'm hoping that someone from the Apple Support team is reading this.
