All hard drives move after start up

I have a 17" MacBook Pro and I place my hard drives in the upper right hand corner, but when I restart they always show up somewhere else? Is there a solution for this?

  • External hard drive movies won't play on apple tv

I recently purchased an Apple TV unit.  Plugged it into the sony TV HDMI input.  It sensed the existing wifi I wanted to use.  Set up home sharing.  Etc.
I recently started copying some old digital video tapes via my iMac to an external hard drive.  After reading a few blogs, I imported into iTunes what I thought were the digital home movies from my external hard drive.  I then went back to my living room and chose "computers" and then "movies" and low and behold they were there with the correct running times etc.  When I chose the home movie I wanted to watch it won't play.  Is there some setting that I am over looking?
Sort of weird that I can see the movie selection with a picture (basically the first frame of the video) but can't play it.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.  I've tried to figure it out myself, but not knowledgeable about how this mac works I suppose.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • HP Envy 7 interment hard drive failure on start up

    Hello,
I have a HP Envy 7 with Windows 7. On start up, I get the "Interment Hard drive failure", I ran the hard drive test and the results were good. I didn't get an error message but the message comes up everytime I restart. Is there a way to turn the smart disk message off or should I get ready to purchase a new hard drive?

    Hi
Can you help me with Product number & the complete model number off you unit. Please find the Link given Here how to find the details.
Most HP Notebook PCs have SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology System) capable hard drives. SMART is firmware that resides on the hard drive and continuously monitors drive parameters such as performance and error rates. SMART uses a technology known as predictive failure analysis to tell you when a hard drive failure is imminent.
Common SMART errors are:Hard disk failure is imminent.
A hard drive in the system reports that it may fail.
Smart failure imminent, back up your data
Error 1720 Imminent Hard Drive Failure
HP Hardware Diagnostic errors that start with HD521
The use of SMART does not prevent all hard drive failures, but it can give you the opportunity to back up your personal files and replace the hard drive before it fails.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Attempting to install Maverick, error message says I cannot use my hard drive as a start up disk.

The IT department where I work erased the hard drive and rebooted it to 10.7.5. In attempting to upgrade it to Maverick I encountered the error message saying that I cannot use this hard drive as the start up disk (or something to that effect). I read a couple of posts saying either to partition the hard drive or erase it entirely and boot from the recovery hard drive. Before doing any of that I booted using the option key, but did not find a recovery drive to boot to… only the disk0s2.
    Some stats on my computer:
    15-inch, late 2011
    2.4 ghz intel core i7
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB
    C02H825CDV7P

The partition table is corrupt. Boot into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime) and partition the drive with the default options (GUID format, one data partition.) The operation will destroy all data on the drive, so you'll have to restore from a backup.

  • New Macbook Pro hard drive crash after 9 months?  How to avoid it again...?

Hi - I've just had my hard drive replaced after it crashed - only after 9 months!!!!  How can this be?  I thought Macs were supposed to be more resilient and reliable?   I always kept the software up to date.
Is there anything I should be doing to avoid this happening again?
    - let the battery run down completely / always keep it charged and power source plugged in?
    - don't run too many programmes at once?
    - shut down completely rather than sleep mode?
If anyone has any tips / advice...otherwise I'm considering selling it.
    Thanks

You can't just take that drive from the older system and install it in the new system. Even though both run Lion the Lion install on the older system does not have the correct driver set for the new hardware. In fact Apple came out with a newer version of Lion Just For these Newer System.
It may now be on the Apple servers bot it wasn't a few days, 5-12, ago..

  • Two drives : same buffer on all hard drives ?

I just ordered a SATA Maxtor drive 300G 7200, Buffer 16Mo (model 6B300S0) to add onto the second bay of my G5 DP 1.8 Ghz.
The original drive (that will be kept in place) is also from Maxtor, 80G 7200, Buffer 8Mo.
I just went by this article from apple support "http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300355".
    It says
    "Storage :
Two Serial ATA controllers supporting up to 150-MBps data throughput per hard drive
Two 3.5-inch hard drive expansion bays with drive guides for a second drive
One 80GB or 160GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA drive installed in standard configurations(5)
Support for up to two internal Serial ATA drives; 500GB maximum system capacity(5)
8MB memory buffers on all hard drives"
Is this "8MB memory buffers on all drives" restrictive, meaning there might problematic to have two hard drives running with different buffers ?
Thank you for any suggestion, I still have time to cancel my order and order another drive with 8 MB buffer before tomorrow..
    Luc

    Thank you for your reply,
As a matter of fact, the Apple report is from october 2004, and my machine from April 2005, not much further away. I have found an happy report in XRL8yourmac from sept 2004 describing no problem with the same drive in a Dual 2.5 GHz Power Mac G5 .
The writer says it ran faster than the original 250GB Maxtor 7Y250M0 (8Mo buffer), but did not say if the two drives are running allong well or if he did replace the 250 by the 300. I understood that we cannot instal more than 500 Gig total in a G5 this generation ??
    My specific question is :
Is it any reason to think that running two SATA drives with different size buffers would be problematic ?
    Many thanks
    Luc

  • HT1436 I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

depending on which model of G5 and  OS installed will depend on whether a key command will work
    alt   at start up may  work, if it does not, use the start up disc setting in;
apple menu > system preferences > system  > start up disc
of course, the second drive must have a compatible OS installed for it to be able to boot.

  • Creative Licensing Services waking up all hard drives, even offline drives.

I wasn't sure where to post this or report a bug, but these two services seem to have incorrect behavior. They will scan every hard drive in the system, which will wake up every drive in the computer, even if the drives are set to "Offline" in Disk Management.
Creative Audio Engine Licensing Service (CTAELicensing.exe)
Creative ALchemy AL6 Licensing Service (AL6Licensing.exe)
For what purpose do these services need low level drive access to every drive in the system? I have 3 disk drives and an SSD, I like to keep my disk drives turned off for silence, but whenever these two services run, respective programs lag as the computer spins up every hard drive one at a time. I suspect this would happen to external USB drives too.
Here's a performance monitor screenshot of CTAELicensing.exe waking up all hard drives when you click the "encoder" tab of "Creative Audio Control Panel". (for Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect)
And here's another performance monitor screenshot of AL6Licensing.exe waking up all drives when I launch an ALchemy enabled game.

Forgot to mention, I've seen this happen on Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 CP x64 on both an X-Fi Titanium HD and a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro.

  • HT1364 when I moved the iTunes media folder from my PC to my external hard drive, upon iTunes start up with the harddrive connected beforehand, my music and all the files transferred to my harddrive but now all my playlists music& ratings are gone. what d

I transferred my itunes library using all the guided steps promepted on this topic,  when I restarted iTunes in its new location on my xternal hard drive, iTunes did not have any of my ratings or playlists. I did have the hard drive running before i started up itunes as well. what can I do?

    I got it to work!!!!!!!
what I did was after doing this( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my library and iTunes folders using that link, I held shift while double cicking and opening iTunes, It promted me to select a library, I went to my external hard drive and opened iTunes library.itl folder and selected the iTunes library.itl file.  In the picture below I just selected the highlighted file and it opened itunes, THIS time with all my music and with all my music ratings and playlists, all still intact thank you so much!!!!

  • How can I move my iTunes movies from my computer to an external hard drive? After I copy them to the drive, do I just delete them from my computer? How will I be able to watch them again?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Air (July 2013) with the latest Mavericks OS X. I also have the lastest version of iTunes.
My computer has very little memory left, so I wanted to free some up. When I looked, movies were taking up a considerable amount of space. I want to move them from my computer, but still be able to watch them if I want to later. I haven't purchased an external drive yet, because I didn't know what size to get. I also have a lot of Photoshop files that are taking up a lot of memory, so I might put some of those on too. Would you recommend a 1 TB one or bigger?
Can you take me through the exact process of moving my iTunes movies to the external drive? I understand where to find the files (My Name<Music<iTunes Media<Movies), but am stuck from there. Do I simply drag them to the external drive and then delete them? Will this delete them from my iTunes library? How will I go about watching them again? I assumed that I would just plug the external hard drive in, click in the movie and watch. Is it this simple? I only want to move my movies, otherwise I would follow tutorials for backing up the library. Once you back up the movies, can you delete them from your computer?
    Thanks,
    Molly

iTunes does not have provision for automatically storing one kind of media on a separate drive, so you have some basic decisions to make first.  Do you want these movies to still appear in your iTunes library, or are you content with browsing filenames on a drive in Finder when you want to look for one?  The second's the easiest thing because then you don't have to have an external drive permanently turned on and attached to your computer (wired or wireless).  To do that you literelly only need to drag your movies folder to an archive drive and delete movies from iTunes.  To watch them again you can add it back to iTunes while holding down the option key so the movie is used from its location on the external drive.
There's ways to move the movies to an external drive while keeping them in iTunes but the external drive iwll always have to be turned on and connected to the computer or you will see a bunch of broken link exclamation marks.
Realize what you are talking about is not "backup".  Backup (which you should do) is putting a second or more copy of items on external drives for the day when your internal drive fails and everything on it is lost, inclduing all your home photos and perhaps things that have been pulled from the iTunes Store and can no longer be re-downloaded.
