All I see is bounding boxes in the Canvas window

I finally decided it was time I learned to use Motion.
I opened up a tutorial, but all I can see in the canvas window is bounding boxes, similar to wireframe mode in FCP and other programs.
If I make a RAM Preview, I can see the actual project - but the second I make an adjustment, I'm back to the wireframe.
Not useful.
I've done all the normal things - like trash the motion preferences.
What am I missing?

I fixed the problem. An earlier post with a similar problem fixed it by making their secondary video/graphic card the output for their main monitor.
I tried this and now everything works fine.

the problem started when my computer screen broke from something falling on it, the screen was replaced but the people that fixed it for me told me there may be some hard disk issues when a problem like this happens, they ran their own checks and found nothing and i was given my laptop back, then when i tried to use it, i found this problem. everything else works fine.
i have shutdown and re-started my computer multiple times and i have also re-started finder multiple times, both having no effect
i have also done a few other things to find that my apple.com.finder.plist and apple.com.sidebar.plist are both missing, and are not re-creating themselves, i have found no way to bring them back either.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

How do I write a title in X? (I don't see a text box in the Inspector)

I'm having trouble writing titles in X. I dont' see a text box where the online advice says I should. All I see is how to change the font, size etc

First select the title you have connected to the clip:
Before selecting the clip, there is 'nothing to inspect' shown in the inspector window. But after selecting the title:
you will find the data on the inspector window.
Next place your cursor on the empty box that shows up in the viewer and double click. As I had already entered my text, I placed my cursor on the green colored text 'exercise' and double clicked on it:
When you double click, the box gets highlighted and at the same time you will also have the dialog box opened up in the inspector window. You can add text either in the viewer or in the inspector window.

I'm having trouble viewing pictures on any profiles including my own. All I see are empty boxes and have to click on each one seperatly to see what it is. There are no thumbnails.

When trying to view pictures, as on profiles for example, all I see are empty boxes without any thumbnail picture inside. I have to click on each one blindly and wait for it to load to see what it is. I think it is some kind of setting i did myself and cannot find how to undo.

With the site on display, click on the site identity button (for details on what that is see [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Site+Identity+Button]) and then on More Information. This will open up the page info dialog.
First select the Permissions panel, make sure that "Load Images" is set to allow (selecting Use Default should also work)
Next select the Media panel, then click on the first item in the list. Use the down arrow key to scroll through the list. If any item has the option "Block images from (domain name)" selected, de-select the option.
This should hopefully resolve your issue, but also see [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Images+or+animations+do+not+show].
Some add-ons can also block images, for example if you have AdBlock Plus installed, make sure that you have not accidentally created a filter to block the images.

Here's another thought.
Navigate to HD > Users > Library > Safari: Make a duplicate of History.plist.
To duplicate the file, click once to highlight it. Press the Command + D keys.
Drag the History,plist copy file to the Desktop.
Highlight it. Press the Command + I keys, to get info.
Change Open With to TextEdit.
When you open the file in TextEdit, it will be difficult to read, but you will be able to pick out some sites.

Since upgrading to windows 8.1 I can not see any local files in the files window.

I have recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and can no longer see my local files in the files window. All remote files for all remote sites are visable.
If I change sites under local view get error thet dreamweaver can not update cache

I have deactivated and am trying to reload software inside of windows 8.1.

I honestly don't know if DW CS5 is compatible with Win 8.1. The OS compatibility FAQ only mentions DW CS6 & CC.

After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window. When I select Media ->Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Assuming Apple doesn't eviscerate the files of the secondary graphics with another upgrade, there could be a plug in that reads the graphic and runs along side iTunes..we should get someone or Apple to program an alternative If we have to accept this downgrade in iTunes proper.
I've developed a quick workaround, and am still hoping Apple will fix this!
Go To Get Info on the tune you want to see secondary artwork for.
Go To the Artwork tab
Drag the back cover to the desktop, and it will create a new jpg you can open with quick viw or prieview where you can see it large!
you end up with a lot of jpgs on the desktop to discard!

Anybody having trouble pasting texture into the opacity masks box in the transparency window?

Very frustrating, works sometimes, sometimes doesn't. When I cut and paste the texture into the "black box" in the transparency window it doesn't copy and appears white on my document.

this is what I should get in the newest illustrator, but this was done in CS5 - I'm familiar with this process... just don't know why it works sometimes in the newest illustrator and sometimes it doesn't, it's frustrating.

Can't see video in the Canvas window

Something's just gotten turned off and I can no longer see an image in the Canvas window.
I can hear the audio as the sequence plays, but there's no video.
What's happened?

Just figured it out: "Wireframe" had gotten selected instead of "Image + Wireframe" (in the Canvas drop-down menu).

Opening the Canvas window and the Timeline from the browser

I am on an Intel 2x2.66 Dual Core using OS 10.4.11 and working in FCP 6.04.
I know this is a stupid question but having been a composer all my life, I am not up to speed on FCP and I seem to be unable to find the answer in my manual.
I dragged a QuickTime movie to the browser window. It is 500x375 in dimension and uses a H.264, AAC codecs. (info I got from the Get Info window).
The video shows up and plays in the Viewer window but I cannot get the Canvas window nor the Timeline to open.
I have tried selecting the sequence from the list in the browser and then control clicking it and looking at the shortcut menu there. The manual says I should choose Open Timeline from this shortcut menu but that is not even a choice I have. I don't mean it is grayed out, I mean there is no Open Timeline choice on the menu.
As an alternate, the manual suggests selecting the sequence and then choosing View > Sequence in Editor. I tried this also. There is no Sequence in Editor choice under the View menu. There is a Clip in Editor choice but when I select that it simply opens the movie in Quicktime.
I am aware that I am probably forgetting something simple or doing something stupid but I cannot figure it out. Help would be much appreciated.

the simple fact that is being eluded to here is that without an active sequence in the project (shown in the browser) there is no canvas or timeline. If you delete your sequence from the browser, the timeline and canvas will disappear, and you will have to create a new sequence, then open that sequence by double clicking it, to get those windows back. Canvas and Timeline display sequence content. No sequence, no c/t.

Why the checkmark in the Canvas window

This will be, by far,the dumbest question you have ever seen but how do I get rid of the Green checkmark in the canvass window. Also, what does it mean? I'm at the bottom of the learning curve here. Please bear with me here and humour me.

The green checkmark indicates that the video levels are OK. To turn off the overlay, go to the third button in the group of buttons at the center of the top of the Canvas window and uncheck Excess Luma. Or turn off overlays altogether by going to View->Range Check and select OFF.

Once you have your extenal display connected, you need to go into System Preferences > Displays and turn off mirror displays mode. This puts your external display in extended desktop mode. Then you can drag the canvas window from your primary display to your external display.
Note: in my experience if you normally have the Dock on the right side of the screen it will disappear when you do this. Just do  > Dock and select one of the other Dock positions.
