All I want to do is sync one video file from my computer to the iPad

Hi all-
I ripped a "test" mpeg4 video on my home computer that I want to transfer to my iPad. That's all I want to do. I "assume" that this test video has to be placed in a folder somewhere on my main computer's hard drive so that iTunes "sees it" and puts it under one of those little tabs in iTunes like "movies" or "tv shows." Where do I put my test video so that it will sync with my iPad? I see the folders that have my music library for my iPod (Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/My Music/iTues) so I assume there must be some place I need to place this video in order to get it to transfer from my PC to the iPad.
Thanks,
Steve

You need to import it into the iTunes library from within iTunes. Content moved to the iTunes library folder manually won't be recognized by iTunes.

  • Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW photo files from my camera, through the IPad and back to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras does not use an SD card.  How can I do this?

Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW files from my camera through the IPad and out to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras has an SD card but the other one doesn't have a card that would fit in any of the camera devices I've seen on line.  Realted to this, I bought the IPad camera accessory.  Can I put the SD card in the device and also hook the external hard drive to the USB port of the accessory and download from the camera to the hard drive?  Can I put Lightroom or the Nikon photo editing software on the IPad?  Right now I carry a PC laptop and external hard drives with me on wildernes trips.  Internet and WiFi are not available.  Because I shoot so many photos and they're in RAW I need to download from the camera to the external drive because I run out of memory on the PC (and it has much more memory than the IPad).  I have Nikon NX software and lightroom on my PC.  I'd love to be able to reduce the weight I carry by using the IPad to edit my photos each night while on trips.  Is this possible and how would I do it?  I'd appreciate any guidance.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • When I sync with my iPad2, not all playlists come from my computer to the ipad - why?

When I sync with my iPad2, not all playlists come from my computer to the ipad - why?

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over correctly - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • I can only download 1 photo album from my computer to the ipad, if I download a second one, it deletes and replaces the first one. How can I fix this?

I can only download one photo album from my PC to the Ipad, if I try  to download a second album, it deletes the first. Why???

Put all of your albums into one main photos album that you can sync from. You can only select one main folder of photos to sync to the iPad. If you direct iTunes to sync from a different folder the next time that you sync, the first album/folder will be deleted. You have to include all photos with each sync every time that you sync.
So create one main folder for photos and place all of your sub folders into that main photos folder, then when yo sync with iTunes, you can select that main photos folder as the "Sync Photos From" folder in the iTunes photos tab and you can select each of the subfolders within that main folder to sync as well.
But you can only select one level of subfolders to sync. You cannot sync a folder within a folder within the main folder - one level of sub folders only.
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Select the main photos folder in the Sync Photos From drop down menu
Click on/select all of the albums or sub folders within that main folder that you want to sync.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

  • I want to save large pdf files from my computer to my iPad so I can view them in Adobe Reader.

I want to save large pdf files from my computer to my iPad so I can view them in Adobe Reader. I do not want to view them in iBooks or Quickoffice. Since I cannot email these large files, how can I get them on my iPad? Thanks for your help.

I think that Adobe reader supports file sharing.
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side under "devices". Click on the Apps Tab in the window on the right. Scroll down to the File Sharing Apps list under the main apps list. Click on Adobe Reader. Drag the documents into the file sharing window on the right or select them using the "add" button.
Launch the Adobe reader app and the files should be in there.

  • I have the newest IPad and want to download photos from my computer to the IPad.  The instructions say to put photos under My Pictures, but I have thousands of photos in that category.  I don't want to download all my photos, just the newest ones.  Help!

I have the newest IPad and want to download photos from my computer.  However, I have thousands of photos stored under My Pictures on my desktop.  How can I transfer just the newest album to my IPad?  I'm afraid that all the photos will be downloaded.  Please advise.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • My iPod says I have music "already on this device" even though I deleted it all, and now I can't sync anything onto it from my computer

So my 5th generation iPod is almost maxed out with storage, and so to save space, I deleted all the music I had downloaded in the Music app and I use Spotify to listen to all my music now. Not all music is on Spotify though, so there is one song that I want to add onto my iPod. The problem is that when I link my iPod to my computer it says that there are 154 songs already on the device, when there is no music on the device. I deleted it all, and when I go onto the Music app, it even says that there is no content. Whenever I am on the iPod menu on my computer, and I go on the Music tab, I have it selected to only sync selected playlists, artists, and etc.The only music that I have selected is the one song I want to sync, and it says that it will only sync one song. I keep trying to sync the one song, but for some reason it includes the other 154 songs, which I don't have the space for. It won't let me sync anything because of that. I just don't get why it says I have 154 songs on my iPod when I don't, and I don't know how to get rid of them. I thought that when you clicked an option and hit apply, that it would just replace everything on your iPod, but that isn't happening here. I'm just confused as to why it isn't letting me simply sync one song!
    Thanks!

You had a glitch and the music files got corrupted. I know of no way to uncorrupt them.
You can try using a computer app like iFunbox
    http://dl.i-funbox.com/
to see if yo can get them from the iPod in a usable file.
Otherwise you will have to re import them to your computer and sync
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How to transfer one photo album from my computer to my ipad

A while ago, I tried to sync my computer and iPad, and all the 1200 photos on my computer got synced over to my iPad as teeny weeny photos with blurred images, and the photos on my computer which were fine before, also changed to teeny weeny images.  I was not happy.  After weeks of recreating the photos on my computer, I decided to try again, and the same thing happened, but this time I stopped the sync before it could change too many photos on my computer.  So how can I move photos one album at a time, and how do I stop this process changing all the photos to being unviewable?  Thanks

No, Target Mode will not work for you. At least, it will not work well.
I had misunderstood your problem. You had your laptop on vacation and you used it to temporarily store your vacation pictures as you were taking them. Correct?
Since everything is all in one album, the solution is actually quite simple. From inside iPhoto, open the album on the laptop and do a CMD-A to "Select All." Drag them to your Sandisk.
Go to the desktop computer and do a "File > Import to Library" to import the photos into the library. They'll all be in "Last Roll." Manually create the album and drag them all into the library.
WARNING - If you've modified the photos on the laptop, you might wish to "Revert to Original" before you do all of the above. Otherwise, the modified versions will be considered as "originals" on the desktop computer.

  • How do I transfer files from old computer to the new one

I have bought the desktop and used migration asiitant to transfer files but nothing came through, how do i transfer files

Your best option of migrating was when your turned on the new computer for the first time using Setup Assistant. Part of SA is it asks if you are migrating from another Mac, you apparently passed that and missed that opportunity. You then must have used Migration Assistant which is similar to SA but with one critical difference. Migration Assistant migrates everything to a new user account whereas SA would not. Log out of your existing account and into the new account and you will find your stuff. If you want to start over (highly recommended) you can. You will need to carefully read Lion Setup Assistant tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.... This will take some time but in the long run make your migration more seamless.

  • Why can I not sync my videos on my Mac computer to my iPad

I'm trying to put videos on my iPad from my computer and it says that my iPad will not sync because my iPad does not accept the software, but my boyfriend has the iPad 2 and he was able to put the videos from the Mac computer on to his ipad2

I've just been given the best advice - transfer the clip to i Movie and then export to i Tunes.
I think being this simple, it should be explained by Mac support.

  • I bought a book on itunes on my pc. I want the book on my ipad.  When I plugged in my ipad to sync it moved all my apps to my pc - useless. how do i get my apps back on my ipad and get the book from my computer to my ipad?

I bought a book on itunes on my pc. I want the book on my ipad.  When I plugged in my ipad to sync it moved all my apps to my pc - useless. how do i get my apps back on my ipad and get the book from my computer to my ipad?

Instructions on syncing your iPad can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12311
and in the accompanying documents linked from that page. Syncing your iPad with iTunes copies items, it doesn't move them. The only way apps would be actually removed from your iPad during syncing is if you had iTunes set to remove them on syncing, so check the appropriate settings in iTunes, set the book to sync as well, and then sync the iPad again.

Click here and download the software. Unless otherwise noted, a device running iOS 6 requires at least Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.6.3 to be synced from a Mac.

I haven't researched it and I don't claim to know everything about iTunes, but it has always been my understanding that you can only use one computer per iPod, but you can have multiple iPods per computer. From what I understand, this is to prevent illegal sharing and whatnot.
