"All Image Folder" in Finder

Hi, I'm a newbie to Mac. I would like to know how to filter or designate the "All Image Folder" in Finder to just show "images" in my Picture folder only. When I click on the All Image Folder now, it shows EVERY SINGLE IMAGE that I ever opened, including pictures that I may have received through junk mails and any image within Mac itself. I seem to remember once that it only showed images in my Picture Folder and I'm not sure what I did to make it show the way it is now. When I open that folder, it showls over 10000+ imgages. Real annoying, can someone help me? Thanks.

You just need to create a new smart search folder. Open your folder with images, enter command+F, choose your folder in the search bar at the top (it searches the whole computer by default) and choose the search by kind for all images. then click on the save button on the right and save your search. it will show up in the sidebar at the bottom.
BTW, that default "All Images" smart search folder in the sidebar is really quite useless as you have found out yourself so I would recommend you remove it from the sidebar completely. That's done from the finder preferences.
As Kappy suggests, if your folder has images only you don't need to do this and can simply drag the folder to the sidebar.

  • My iPHOTO is empty but the photos appear in the Finder "all images" folder

Yesterday my iPhoto '08 was fine, then today, when it came out of sleep mode, there was a Finder window showing two folders: one named 445555 and the other named iPhoto Library. I clicked on the 445555 and the iPhoto opened empty, with no photos, like new. I closed it and tried to reopen from the Dock but it was still empty. Also tried to open from the iPhoto Library folder with the same result. After some despair i found the photos in the "all images" folder in the Finder main window, so i suppose they are OK and in my computer.
How can i restore my iPhoto or at least make a back up of the most recent photos that i don't still have a back up?
    Thanks for the help.

    Jeff
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the iPhoto Library Folder - which is in your Pictures Folder. If iPhoto sees a valid library there it will open it.
If, however, it does not see a valid library there then your database file is corrupted:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Duplicates appear in my All Images Folder

I just imported all my photos from my vdr d230 into my pictures folder. As I was browsing around through the finder I noticed that in the All Images folder there was all the images I imported plus all those images in a different size. The original size seems to be 640 x 360 and Im guessing that the 640 x 202 is the size implemented when importing to my macbook pro.

All Images is a Smart Search that finds all image format files on your Mac.
When you import pics to iPhoto it automatically generates a thumbnail for viewing in the iPhoto Window. It does this to speed up viewing. It's perfectly normal and expected behaviour. Also, if you edit pics via iPhoto it will perform the edits on a copy - your original file is always preserved.

  • Should I delete redundant images in the "All Images" folder?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...
The "All Images" folder contains so many redundant images, should I clean up those redundant files?
If I do, will it delete them from the individual docs and other files where the images are associated?

be careful deleting anything from there. this smart search shows among other things all the pics in your iphoto library including thumbnails and such. so what may seem like redundant things are actually not. and remember, this is not a real folder. this is a smart search. deleting anything from there will delete the originals.

  • Various images get loaded into my All Images folder involuntarily

My macbook air downloads various images into my All Images folder.  I have to manually go through the folder and put them in the trash.  For instance it copies the Facebook logo over and over or images from websites I visit.  How can I avoid this as it eats up my storage?  Thanks.

    How large are the images?
Not sure I understand the rest of your question - your card show show as an icon on the desktop and you can just drag the pics to a new folder, import them into iPhoto or a number of other apps.

  • How do i delte more than one image at a time from all images folder on iMac

i have 7000 images in the my images folder, how can I delte them all at once?

Click on one folder (if they are nested together in parent folder) and use Select All from Edit menu; then use Move To Trash from File menu. Then use Empty Trash from Finder menu. Same with single images if all of them are in one folder.
Sometimes a folder may be where an application expects to put them, so if that's the case, be sure to leave an empty folder if its part of a system or application. There are times when ownership privilege or user permissions may be lacking, so you may not be able to move or trash them.
Hopefully its not more complicated than this.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Question about 'all images' in finder

i was wondering why when i was looking in 'all images' in the finder, there were doubles of allllll of my images?

    Hi GM1941,
When using Finder>All Images, the ones that you have more than one copy of are images that you do in fact have more than one of. An image stored under the same name and possibly placed in another location from its original.
A good example would be if you downloaded all your images to a pictures folder on your desktop. From there you might copy a picture of a family member in a genealogical program and not rename it. There you have two copies.
If you opened the picture in Photoshop or some other image manipulation software and saved it in a different file format (ex: Tiff, PNG, PICT, GIF) you are again able to save it again- even to the same file- with out renaming it.
When you use the Finder to search for all images, remember that you are looking for ALL images on your computer, not just the ones in iPhoto.
The files listed under today, yesterday and last week are a "search" list of documents/files you have opened during those times, not another copy. But, they are connected to the item they represent and, if you drag them to the trash they will indeed be in the trash and can be deleted from there.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • All images in finder not working right

all of the images in my "all images" folder in the finder are being triplicated and it is making "face" versions of it where it is zoomed in on faces is the pictures, i dont want these "face" versions nor do i want 3 of the same picture, what is wrong and if nothing is wrong how do i make this stop?

These images are on your Mac, and therefore they turn up in the All Images search.
Remember, All Images is not a "place", it's a list. It's the answer to the following instruction: "List All the Images on my Mac".
The specific images you refer to are part of the internal workings of your iPhoto Library. A *very strong warning* : Accessing images in your iPhoto Library via the All Images search can very easily corrupt your iPhoto Library and cause you to lose Photographs.

  • Finder "All Images", "All Pictures" available to all users! How to prevent?

Whatever the User (even Users non Administrator and with Parental Control) can see ALL pictures in Computer by accessing the "All Images" icon in Finder. How to prevent this? What have I done wrong as I believe in the past this did not happen?

Did you alter the permissions on your home folder?
Where are the pictures located? Your home folder is visible to all users because they need to see into your Public folder. The other folders inside your home folder are protected (Documents, Pictures, etc.)
However, if you make a folder directly inside the home folder, it is visible to everyone since it has same permissions as the home folder itself.

  • All Images in Finder

I am a new Mac user and total confused..
Just what is the purposed of All Images in the Finder...
When i open, stuff appears that i have never seen before..
Photos deleted from Iphoto are there....is this not using unnecessary hard drive space?
    Some very weird stuff there??
    TIA!!

Thx for your reply, but i hv to asked " Just where is it useful "?
Well, I sort of answered that... it's my opinion that it isn't. But I'm sure someone out there is using it somehow.
By turning off, do you mean just unclicking the check mark in preferences?
Yup... in the Finder, choose Finder -> Preferences, click the Sidebar icon and uncheck All Images.
By doing this are you not still using hard drive space?
No... Those files are all already on your machine, and just because you've never seen them before doesn't mean they're wasting space or that you should get rid of them. Click on one of the images and look at the path shown at the bottom of the window... it will tell you where that image is found. You'll start to get an idea of where these things are all coming from.
My concern is, something going on with my computer ( when online) that I dont know about??
    No.

  • How to Erase Internet Image Clutter in Finder?

I recently went into the All Images folder in iMac Finder and, to my dismay, saw what seemed like every picture from every single website I had every visited. I would just wipe out all the images, but there are iPhoto pics and other things in the folder I want to keep. Does anyone know how I can erase all the internet image clutter from the All Images folder without having to painstakingly go through everything lest i erase any images I want? Thanks in advance.

All Images is a smart folder, not a regular folder. this means that it is simply a saved search and the actual images reside in their original locations. all those internet images just sit in your browser cache. there is really no need to delete them by hand. the browser periodically does it itself. those images are stored for a time to speed up your browsing. if you really want to do you can delete them from your browser preferences. in safari go to safari menu->reset safari and delete what you want.

  • Stopping All Images Saves

New to Macs. Noticed that the All Images file on the hard drive save a copy of every image, including those opened in email attachments.
    1) Is there a way I can stop it from doing that? I occasionally get emails with images that I would rather not have on my hard drive !
    2) Is there a way to mass delete all of the images in the all images file without affecting (deleting) those saved in my iphotos file?

That "All Images" folder in the Finder sidebar is just an alias canned search,  pointing to the original location.
You do not want to delete the images in that folder.

  • In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

In my Macbook Pro, the Finder folder has duplicate images in the 'all images' file. One image is small and the other is full size. First question is why do I have two of every image? Why is one small and the other large. Do I need two of everything? If not, which do I delete?
    thanks, Jean

    Hello fane,
    Re: duplicate images in finder.
Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot  for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks for your help,

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
