All-in-One printer spasmotic failure

I run 2 computers, using XP, and an Officejet 6310 All-in-One printer.  Recently I have been having trouble getting the printer to print.  Usually this happens when I start up my computer and printer, and the 1st print job results in the printer to hang-up, and the small camera-type sign on the bottom left front panel flashes.  I unplug the machine, wait 30 seconds, and re-try.  Sometimes this works, and sometimes not.  What's going on, and what can I do?
I have tried re-installing the printer and drivers, but no change.  I checked all the connectors, and they all seem to be OK.
Should I start my computers befor turning on the printer?  or the other way around?
I have been using this printer for several years without any trouble, then this started.  Maybe I had an update in XP, or by HP, that it didn't like?  I automatically update software for these products.
Help.
Thanks
RLBobH

It may be a firewall problem with your Vista machine.  Try disabling the firewalls and see if the problem goes away.

  • Cant WiFi connect HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer to internet

I cant WiFi connect HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer to internet... at least I think that is the problem. I have followed all the instructions on HP Print and Scan Doctor as well as Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure. My router is running fine for everything else and I have entered the static address for the printer into the router.  It appears that my printer believes it is connected to my WiFi (Ihave WPS it multiple times), but when I type it's IP address into my IE nothing shows up. My router doesn't appear to see the printer either. I have the latest driver installed on my computer. I suspect this may be a router issue: new router Asus Double 450 Mbps  N Router (Dual band - but it appears my router is using the 2.4Hz band to communicate with WPS). Windows 7 64.

    Hello NRHII,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to connect the Officejet 8600 over a wireless connection. I will do my best to assist you! I would recommend power cycling the router, printer and computer:
    1) Turn off your printer
    2) Disconnect the power cord from the back of the router
    3) Restart your computer
    4) Wait less than 60 seconds, plug the power cord back into the router
    5) Turn your printer back on, wait for the computer to turn on
Is the wireless light blinking on your printer? If so, please reconnect the wireless on your printer by using the wireless setup wizard: (This information is stated here.)
On the printer touch screen, touch the Right Arrow ( ) to display the second navigation screen.
Touch the Setup icon ( ).
Touch Network , touch Wireless Setup Wizard , and then touch Continue . The printer searches for available networks.
Touch the name of your network, and then touch OK .
If prompted, enter the network password, and then touch OK . The printer connects to the network.
Also, as I was typing this post TreeFrog posted some great information to follow.
Have you followed this entire HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection? If not, follow this document. Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
    Have a great day!

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - A909g printhead

The printer has not been 100% for a few weeks. It would align the printhead fine. When printing, it didn't always print everything - one time blues would be missing, another black would be missing. Received a message saying the ink was out of date. Picked up new ink yesterday, installed it and the printer went thru it's normal routine - cleaning and aligning. It would print the page which was not good and then realign again.
I read up on how to change the printheads. Problem is the printheads are stuck over to the right. I have pressed the * button and done anything else I could find. What do I do now?
    Carol Belles

    Hey @carolinva,
I understand that you're having print quality printhead related issues on your HP Officejet 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today in resolving the issue of not being able to remove your Printheads. Now I understand that you have already tried new cartridges and run the cleaning and aligning on the product to no avail. At this point you have determined that the printheads are defective.
Just so you are aware there are two printheads in your product. There is a Black and Yellow Printhead and a Cyan and Magenta Printhead. Because your quality issue is affecting blues and blacks than both printheads may be defective. The printheads run for about $64.99 a piece plus tax in the United States. Also, there is a chance that you could replace both printheads and the issue not be resolved because it's a hardware failure of your ink system. Therefore, the next step would be to replace the printer. New printers do not use the same ink systems as your Officejet 8500 printer so the Printheads would do you no good if you have to replace your product.
Part Number for HP 940 Black and Yellow Printhead: C4900a
Part Number for HP 940 Magenta and Cyan Printhead: C4901a
I'm going to provide you steps on how to properly remove the printheads in your product. Because your printheads failed to initially move to the left I'm going to have you start by running a power reset.
    Step 1: Power Reset:
With your printer powered on, disconnect your power cable.
After 30 seconds, plug your power cable back in to the printer.
Your printer should turn on automatically.
Once the printer returns to the ready state, follow the steps below.
Replacing the Printhead for HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer Series (A909)
Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your issue. Should you have further issues be sure to let me know. Good luck!

  • HP PSC 2210 all in one printer - slow printing

I have had this all in one printer for several years.  Just recently I attempted to print two pages from a PDF file and it took over 1 hour to print.  At first I thought it was the PDF but now I realize it is with anything I try to print.  I went through all the troubleshooting steps and none of them have fixed the problem.
I have a Dell Dimension 8400 Intel Pentium Computer,  Windows XP 4 cpu 3.20 GHz, 3.19 GHz, 1.00 GB of Ram.
It will begin to print but then it will take at least an hour to print 1 page.  I have already uninstalled, re-installed, etc...
    This question was solved.

This is likely caused by the failure of one of your cartridges.  Remove the black cartridge and print a test page.  Does the printer print at normal speed?  Is so the black cartridge was the issue and should be replaced.  If not then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge and print test page.  If the printer now prints normal speed the color cartridge was at fault and needs to be replaced.

I just purchased a Brother MFC-9340CDW all in one printer.  It shows up on a list of compatable airprint devices but I can't seem to get it to work.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    It won't work with airplay, here is how I got it to work with OSX 10.9.4 fully patched;
you will need to use the serial cable to start the process:
    In-brief Version:
    0) Go grab the firmware update tool, the driver, and the scanner software
    1) Turn off the firewall and antivirus (if you use it ??)
    2) Update the firmware using the serial line
    3) Reserve a static IP outside the DHCP range (using the MAC address of the printer) on your WAP server
    4) Configure the printer to use a static IP through the front panel
    5) Configure the printer WIFI with your SSID and net key through the front panel
    6) Install the CUPS driver on your computer through the printer settings by specifying the static IP
    7) Install the Scanner driver then go into the Control Center and add you computer and printer configuration
I generally use this kind of set up so that the printer comes back at the same place after a power failure in
the event that it has a crappy driver.
For those of you who need a little more help:
    0) Turn off anti-virus and firewall software (it did seem to matter)
    1) Go to the Brother Center and download 1) The firmware update tool, 2) the driver, 3) the scanner software
    2) Go to the front panel on the printer: tools -> all settings -> network -> tcp/ip -> WLAN ; find the MAC address and write it down
    3) Plug the printer in using the serial cable, it will auto detect and you will be able to talk to it.
    4) Install the firmware update tool by double clicking on the dmg you downloaded
    5) Update the firmware and the subfirmware (NOTE: this is a bit finicky -- you may have to unplug and replug it in a couple of times before it starts to talk with the device, after it starts the update process it frequently gives up in the middle, DO NOT unplug the device at this point, just select "retry" from the dialog and it will continue -- it will take about 15 mins or so.
    6) Once the firmware is installed, go to your WAP server and look at the DHCP IP range; typically something like 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200
    7) If there is a capability to reserve an IP on your WAP server pick an IP outside the range in 6 (e.g. 10.0.1.201) and use the MAC address (from step 2) for the reservation... its fine if you don't reserve it -- this is an extra precaution -- just make sure you pick an IP outside the DHCP range
    8) Go to the front panel on the printer: tools -> all settings -> network -> tcp/ip -> WLAN ; then set the IP address:
         boot method: static
IP address: the address you chose in 7)
         mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: the IP of your router -- typically 10.0.1.1
    8) Go to the front panel on the printer: tools -> wireless -> setup wizard -> let it find your network, select it, and enter your key.
    9) Reboot the printer and check it connects to your wireless network
    10) Go to the front panel on the printer, tools -> all settings -> print reports -> network configuration ; print the report and check the IP and MAC
are what you think they should be.
    11) Go to your computer, bring up a terminal (applications->utilities->terminal)
    12) Ping your printer to make sure its up and accessible -- type: "ping 10.0.1.201" (or whatever IP you used in step 7) and check you get a response -- not a timeout -- if it works disconnect the serial line and delete the (serial line) printer from the list of printers  -- you won't need it anymore -- if not you screwed up somewhere along the line
    13) Now the printer is on the wireless network, install the driver by double clicking the dmg. Then go to system preferences->printers & scanners
         click +
in the add menu click IP
enter your IP (from step 7)
make sure the Protocol is IPP
Name the printer and set its location
Go to Use field, in the pull down menu select "Select Software"
Go through the list and find the Brother MFC-9340CDW CUPS driver -- if its not there you screwed up installing it so go do it again.
    14) Go back to the printer page -- select the printer, select Open Print Queue, then select Settings -- check the Driver Version is 4.1.0 -- if
it says 2 you are using the airplay version which seems to be buggered -- so you need to try again.
    15) Go open a word document and print it -- smile you are nearly there
    16) Install the scanner software by double clicking the dmg
    17) Open the Control Center, under the Model: select Other
         Click +
         Select your printer
Enter your computer name in the display name and click ok
    18) Go into adobe Acrobat File->Create->PDF from Scanner (or whatever software you are scanning with)
    19) Select "Brother TWAIN" from the scanner list -- if its not there you screwed up the scanner software installation -- go do it again
    20) Put a document in the top of the printer and press scan -- wammo !
    21) Turn back on your firewall (and antivirus if you have it -- why I can't imagine but what the ****)
    22) Go ping the printer and make sure its still reachable (see step 12) -- if not you need to figure out what your antivirus is screwing up because the firewall is no problem
    23) try printing and scanning again...
    24) rejoice... your done.

  • HP PhotoStupid C7180 All-In-One printer

I've had this printer since 10/07/2007 and have had to uninstall and reinstall the software close to 24 times. When it works it works but when it doesn't it is a pain. I sure as hell have not overused it. It's been a really light duty family printer of which I am the only one wirelessly connected to it. When I want a fax/copy/scan/photo I expect it to work but have been so disappointed. The scan module sometimes lurches back and stalls the machine so it has to be powered off/on. The fax buttons will not work due to the scanner issue. I f I go into the IP web screen for the printer it will scan . All settings always appear to be okay, the three utilities HP offers on the website usually find "everything is a-okay". I've downloaded the current full printer software but it doesn't fully work. I've even tried the reset with pressing * # at the same time. No Luck. Is there a total factory reset command? I haven't found it. This is my 2nd HP PhotoStupid All-In-One printer . The 1st was a 2510 which had an internal wireless adapter failure. I probably will not buy a 3rd.

There is a document for a partial reset here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00720603&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1153754&tmp...

  • All in One Printer no longer scanning (C5280)

I have an oldish printer/scanner that was working fine until I downloaded the update that came from HP on Aug. 13th. Since then, I cannot scan. I got an error message that the machine was disconnected from the computer which made no sense since I can print from the computer just fine. I did all the things the error message suggested: rebooting, disconnecting the cable, redownloading the driver. The machine worked for about 5 pages of the scan after the redownload, then conked out again.
I saw some directions about going into the registry editor window but they were for Windows 7 and below. I have Windows 8. I did not see a folder for Digital Imaging in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/H-P
If there are updated directions for Windows 8, pleae let me know.
I have an All in One Printer (C5280)

Hello @Toonces , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scan issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Photosmart C5200 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 premier all-in-one printer

The above printer is 1 1/2 years old and it has stopped printing.  When the printing became light, I installed new print cartridges less than a week ago.  Now, after five days, the printer is consistently cleaning the print heads and aligning the print heads and my documents are not being printed.  And, what is most frustrating, during all the cleaning and aligning, all of my new ink is gone and I'm receiving a message replace ink cartridges.
Re: Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on
    Options
    08-24-2011 06:34 PM
    Well,
to this is say, "get used to it", or throw it away.  Many, Many, Many people have had trouble with this printer.
The following are common and frustrating issues that this printer exhibits on a regular basis:
    1.  Constant Self-Checking (usually every 20-30 pages of print)
    2. Very persistant Printhead Cleaning/Checking, (Every startup and after about 20-30 pages printed).
    3. Worn-out printheads (usually within 1,100 to 1,500 pages printed).
    4. Paper mis-feeds.
    5. Paper jams.
    6. Nearly impossible to use once the printer reports ink-depletion.
    7. Nearly impossible to use CIS Ink for larger print jobs.
    8. Ink and printheads "expire" regardless of when they are placed into service. (get a deal on ink or printheads last year?  Too bad, the warranty is already expired, most likely).
In short, this printer is the most EXPENSIVE printer I've ever owned, and the most frustrating to use.
I have just over 2,000 pages of regular text printed matter with very little color, and have already gone through 4 sets of ink, and 2 sets of PrintHeads.
Although it's true that you can leave the unit on, and let it go into standby, you should NOT be punished with constant and time-consuming "self-checking" everytime it's turned on, or prints a handful of pages, BUT, it does NOT appear that HP will be standing behind this printer disaster.  AND, to make things worse, they've gone on to redesign it, giving it a different look, and so there are about 6 different models/versions of the OfficeJet Pro 8500.
Anyone needing a reliable print/fax/scan/copy solution should look beyond this printer, because it will leave you wanting more, and spending more than you ever imagined you would have to on a late model printer.ro
What is going on?  Why does it just automatically clean and align?  I also get alignment failed messages.  Any suggestiions?

    rammerjammer,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, your feedback is very important and I want to do my best to help.  To answer what is going on, since the printing became light, started cleaning itself constantly, and fails the alignment, the printhead was damaged.  Click here to see and use the Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges, Printheads, and Related Supplies.  There are many ways to contact HP.  The number to call is 1-800-474-6836 for HP and Compaq products for Home & Home Office use.  If you no longer have a warranty with the printer you can still use the warranty that comes with the printhead or ink cartridges.
If you have a carepack with the printer that extended the one year warranty then the troubleshooting will be covered along with the printer if the printer needs replacing.  Check product warranty here, see HP Out of Warranty Support Options for Select HP Consumer Printers here.
To order a new printhead you can go to HP Sure Supply and enter your printer or go to the HP Parts Store and order the printhead by part number C4900A for the Black and yellow and part number C4901A for the Cyan Magenta.  These printheads go by region also so be sure you are using the right region, these were found using the United States region.
The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One printer has separated the ink cartridges from the printheads.  The ink cartridges are on the lower left and the removable print heads are on the carriage inside the printer.  The printer goes through a calibration process when turned on that will use ink.  Leave the printer on and let it go into stand by mode.  This type of printer is energy star efficient and made to calibrate on start up and be left on.  Allow the printer to clean or calibrate only if the printer must.  If it starts cleaning a lot it may be time to do a little maintenance to the printer (recommend once a month for maintenance).  Please see the following links for further details.

Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One
Paper Path Issues in the Automatic Document Feeder
    Officejet Pro 8500 User Guide
The printer has a duty cycle of 7.5k page/month.  The XL cartridges have a composite page yield of 1.4k pages with about a third of the black ink left over.  To me it would seem that the printhead should last somewhere in between.  This printer was designed to save money on ink compared to the rest of the officejets.  I hate that it has been causing so much trouble, hopefully the information I provided will help.

  • Driver question - my all in one printer will print but not scan

    Hi
I have an HP c4280 (you know, the all in one printer you could get for free with the mail in rebate in 2007). I just plug it in and my mac recognizes it as a printer, and it prints fine, but image capture does not recognize it as a scanner. Before I upgraded to leopard I had all of HP's stupid software installed but after upgrading to leopard it didn't work (surprise). A lot of other things didn't work either so I did an erase and install and now everything works beautifully (I feel like I have old Tiger back, but better). However, I do not want to install HP's stupid overbloated and highly unnecessary mountain of software on my nice new clean system (I have turned into kind of an apple-only purist I guess ^_^). I checked HP's website and all they have is the same ginormous software bundle for download, and the installation wizard does not allow the option to install only components of the software (its all 28 programs or nothing). So, my question is, does anybody know where I can find only the driver I need (or WHAT driver I need) to make this printer compatible with image capture so I can scan?

You need to download the full featured driver from the HP site, and it also seems HP has an update for the Leopard installation as well.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&produc t=3192753&lang=en
I too have a C4280 and wasn't able to use my scanner until I had fully installed the HP software.

this eventually asks me to create a Microsoft account. I don't care to have Big Brother Bill Gates be involved in my HP printer driver.
But finding no way around this, I finally try to make one.  It asks for an email address, but the domain is restricted to either Hotmail or Outlook! HELLO? Are there only 2 email providers on the planet?  I am stunned. Did a single human test this software?
I finally did the traditional search for a driver, not an app, and find one on the HP site.
Lesson... if you're on a laptop, and see the word "app," run as fast as you can.

    Hello Seahorse1305,
    Welcome to the forums!
I am here to assist you with the printing issue you are having with your Photosmart B210. The first thing I do recommend, is running the HP Print and Scan Doctor to find and fix printing and scanning problems. If there is more of an issue that the tool cannot fix, it will let you know what the problem is.
Please let me know how this turns out for you!

Can you help and give detailed instruction how to set up?

In order to set the wireless connection, you should use the Software from your PC.
You will be prompted to temporary connect a USB in order to configure the printer.
If the sofware is not yet installed on your PC, follow the instructions below:

If you already completed the software installation, you may find the wireless configuration as following:
    1. From the computer’s start menu select All Programs or Programs, and then select HP. 2. Select HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series 3. Select Printer Setup and Software Selection 4. Select eighter Convert a USB connected printer to wireless or Connect a new printer and Follow the onscreen instructions.

And my all in one printer is a HP C4180 .
I hooked everything up,  all lights are sollid as they are supposed to be, so no issues there.  If i press the testpage button
It prints a nice page on the printer,  so all works from printserver to printer.
BUT,  when i try to print anything from my PC it doenst work.
I tried running the CD and it cant find the printer in the network.
    I DOUBLE CHECKED ALL WIRES
What can i do to make everything work??
The purpose is to be able to use the abbilities  (sorry for the crappy english, im belgian)
of the all in one printer in the entire house,  which are about 4-5 PC's.
So they all have to be able to print and scan.
    HELP PLEASE

    Hello,
Generally Print Servers are designed to be used for printing purpose. However in certain cases, we can use the EWS to complete the scan process.
Here is a link to the old forum which discusses the procedure to scan from the EWS.

My suggestion is to get to get a network AIO to get complete functionality.
