All internet activity is VERY slow after updates.

Hi. I'm on a flat-panel iMac running 10.3.9. I've got 1GB ram and 17GB left on an 80GB HD. I've got Qwest DSL with an Actiontec modem. I'm going straight from the wall to the Mac. No wireless or network.
My browsers are running incredibly slow after I added a few recent updates to iSync, iTunes, Security Update, iPod and maybe one or two others. It's the same on Safari, Explorer and Firefox.
I checked my connection speeds on several different sites. I'm getting good times on those (4.5 down and 720 up.) Downloading files is no problem. It's just getting to the actual pages that is a pain in the butt. It's weird.
I called Qwest. All the lines looked great, which doesn't surprise me since the connecion speeds were good.
I've emptied the cache on Safari. I've repaired permissions several times. I've restarted everything. Unplugged, then re-plugged every connection.
Everything was cruising along fine until I installed those updates. I'm not saying they're definitely the culprits, but I do wonder if other people have had this problem.
The machine is basically acting like it has spyware, but I know none really exists for Mac.
Any other ideas about what I could try to do?

Not sure if this will help but it fixed a lot of issues on my families iphones. Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. It will wipe any wifi details so you need to have those to hand to set them uback p again.
This fixed various problems with no sound when dialling, no ringer etc. May be a providor issue rather than iphone issue though but it is a good tip to refresh all your settings, without affecting anything else on your devices.
Keep it fresh

My mac mini 2010 (2.4 Ghz, 8GB ram) is running really very slow after updating to Mavericks.
Clearly OneDrive is a pain... but had it running on ML as well, and though it is a memory and CPU hog, it never really slowed down the system.

  • Iphone 5 VERY SLOW after updating to IOS 6.1.3.  What is wrong? Restoring it does nothing.

My Iphone 5 is miserably slow after updating to IOS 6.1.3.   I've tried restoring it and nothing works.  What happened? It's even restarting over and over on its own

I guess it of no use...It is with subscription....batteries issues will not be entertain....Lots of reasons. Company will not entertain batteries issues unless is really serious.
Anyway, I will continue to use it with bare Apps...I will not buy any apps, no movies, musics...cause it would last me a day.  I will definitely not buy any Apps.
the last verison 6.02 was definitely better at battery management...this version is really bad.  Do not know why some users said 6.10 improved the battery....but mind did not.
Forget about buying Apple products again...this is mind first time using a smartphone (as a gift too)...and how disappointed I am.  Truely, if company wants users to use their products, they should give decent batteries...the IP5 has the same battery as the 4S and 4S last at least 2 days.
With all the hype and marketing that Apple is making...a decent battery should be provided.... I am not asking for anything more....what is the point of having the most advance IOS or hardware..when batteries cannot give users a decent life (2 - 3 days are good enough) not 1 or less day....By the Way, IP5 isn't cheap.  It is were, I would not waste my time posting here....
This is really hopeless and pointless
Disappointed, really disappointed and displease.  anyway to get back version 6.02..cos 6.10 really hopeless for me.

  • Printing to Airport Express connected Laserjet 1012 very slow after update to 10.6.8

After updating a pair of computers that we have here to 10.6.8, printing to our Airport Express connected HP LaserJet 1012 has become incredibly slow. I timed it and it is taking 2:30 to print a blank page, whereas printing the same blank page under 10.6.7 (on an external drive connected to the same MacBook Pro) happens within 2 seconds. One thing that I have noticed is that when I bring up the HP Printer Queue the computer says 'connecting to printer' for 20 - 30 seconds, then sits at 50% complete on the printing for some time - anyone else running into similar problems?

Because I am not experiencing the same issue I have not needed to apply the CNET article. But just to be clear, did you follow the instructions to the letter?
If you did and it's still not working then you can begin narrowing down where the problem is by following some basic trouble shooting steps. First thing I'd try is creating a new user account (call it TEST ACCOUNT) and leave it alone, then try printing from that account. If it works then you know it's a software issue in your normal user account. If it still doesn't work then what I'd do is:
    1. Download 10.6.8 Combo Update at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    2. Disconnect all peripherals (including the printer)
    3. Backup using both Time Machine and/or a Bootable Clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner
    4. Restart from the Bootable Clone or the Snow Leopard install discs.
         a) choose language
         b) Click Utililities Menu
         c) Disk Utility
         d) highlight the internal HD and the First Aid tab
         e) Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk & Repair Disk.
         f) exit Disk Utility and restart in Safe Mode
    5. Install the Combo Update
    6. Restart normally and test the system
    7. Begin connecting peripherals one by one and testing each.

  • Shuting down is very slow after update to 10.5

    Hello everybody,
after update to 10.5.3 the shut down process (Mac Book black) takes several minutes. During the process I just see the the background. As I can't see what happens during the shut down prozess, I can't provide more information. So there are two questions:
    1. Where or how I can see what happens during the shut down process. to analyze which process takes so much time?
    2. May be this is a known issue and there is already a solution for it. If it's true, where I can get some more information regarding the issue.
    Many thanks.
    Andrej

anli, it wouldn't hurt to try running a cache cleaner and trash your system cache files - something could be corrupted which would slow shutdown as it attempts to write to it. There are several out there, but if you want something free (and who doesn't) try ONYX: http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html

  • IPad 3 very slow after updating to iOS 8

I Updated my iPad 3 to iOS 8 the day it was released and almost immediately after it finished updating I started having problems.
    1) The Wifi connection is incredibly slow on every device I update.
    2) The entire iPad 3 itself runs very slowly whether I am running apps or switching between (yes I have been shutting down programs when not using them as to conserve RAM but it still runs poorly)
I also did download 8.0.1 with no new issues but did also download and install 8.0.2
I just would like to know if there is anything I can do to get better performance back to my iPad.

No, this is definitely an iOS 8.3 bug, Allen. I have an iPad mini (original, 24/12 old) and an iPhone 5 (not S, 18/12 old). Updated both from 8.2 to 8.3. I keep them and the apps up to date and run a tight ship.
Since the update, the iPhone has been behaving normally.
However, starting immediately after the update, the iPad has been rebooting: when you plug it into the power and it goes to sleep, it reboots itself. This NEVER ONCE happened before the 8.3 update -- and I think I started with this iPad on iOS5 or at least 6, with all the updates inbetween. If you want to use it again shortly after plugging it in, you have to wait about five-ten minutes (as other have reported).  So far, it has always rebooted successfully. But you do have to put in your passcode in response to "you have to enter your passcode upon rebooting" message; and tell it to trust your current computer connect once again.
It just now rebooted itself once again when plugged into the computer USB port, while in the middle of a sync (the screen went to sleep). Not happy about that; potential to damage data.
I confirm: this NEVER happened before 8.3, and it now reliably happens EVERY TIME I plug the iPad into power and it goes to sleep. I have three power sources (computer USB, individual Apple charger, aftermarket reserve battery charter) and it happens with all of them.
As far as I can tell, it only reboots itself once per charger-plugin, and doesn't do so again until you unplug it and plug it back in again (somewhat confident, but not 100% sure, of that).
Hope that helps. The bug needs squashing, and soon.

  • Very slow after update

I recently auto updated my macbook Pro as per below, and all of the sudden my computer became extremely slow, to the point where it is impossible to work with it. I am using the MAC OS X version 10.6.8. After checking the Apple support, I realised that MBP81.0047.B1E is only compatible with OS 10.7. Could this be the reason causing this slow down? I had this problem immediately after I did the update. Please Help!!!!!!

  • Mac OSX very Slow after update iLife

    Dear all;
I just faced problem with my Mac OSX 10.8.4 after upgrade the iLife, the OS freeze then logout from the system
any ideas how to solve this problem?
    Regards;

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • HT4623 my keypad on the ipad working very slow after update

After  the ios update when i try to type the keys take a long time to work and then sometimes wrong letter.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

  • My mind 2014 macbook pro keeps freezing and is very slow after the yosemite update

HI my macbook 2014 model keeps freezing and it is very slow after i had updated it to yosemite

Why don't you try these: ( might or might not help, but it's worth a try )
See what you have loading on your login items.
Open up activity momitor, under All Procesess, see what's using most of your CPU resources (%).
Hightlight the one using the highest % on the CPU then click on quit process and see if that works.
Once you're done with that, go to Disk Utility and do a verify disk.  After that, do a verify disk permission and repair if needed.
    See if that helps you.
