All internet related software keeps crashing!

Hello, I recently installed intego's "content barrier" software on my imac. I restricted use on my kids account, but not on mine. It worked fine for a couple of days, then everything started crashing: safari, netupdate, sofware update, mac help. Everything internet related except for firefox. I uninstalled the sofware (made sure all files were removed from the library), Booted up with the OS CD and did disk repair and repaired disk permissions. None of this worked. If I create a new account, all of the software mentioned above works fine, just not in the administative account. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks

  • Internet related software not launching

I've recently reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4 on my PowerBook G4 and updated the software to 10.4.11 via Software Update. However, having done so, all the System's internet related software (i.e. Mail, Safari, Software Update, iChat, .Mac System Prefs) will no longer launch.
The applications will bounce momentarily in the dock, then disappear without an error message. In System Preferences, the Software Update and .Mac preferences panes refuse to open, simply stating, for example "Preferences Error / Could not load Software Update"
Using Firefox and Thunderbird is possible but I'm unable to update the system software and unable to sync with my mobileMe account which is a major problem.

Hi carlnp, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • After software update, all of my programs keep crashing

I updated everything on my computer last night and since then, all of my programs are crashing as soon as I open them. Safari, iTunes, even the Sims 3 and my dashboard. I ran a virus scan and it says there isn't a virus on my computer. And I tried restarting the computer. Has anyone had a similar problem after the update or know what I can do?

Paste this into your Terminal program and press enter, paste the results here
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 } '
Read this support document, report your results
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3802
Turn off IPv6 in your System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP
Reboot and see which of/if those steps help any.

  • All internet related apps quit "unexpectedly"

I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 with 3 users.  2 users are not affected.  My granddaughter's account however cannot open any internet related accounts.  Not FaceTime, not Safari, not Messages, not iCloud preferences.  I cannot figure out what the issue is.
    Any help or ideas appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Helga

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • What software keeps crashing Chrome?

    Hi,
For the past couple of weeks chrome keeps crashing when I type anything into a webpage. I'm also having an issue with a few other programs not opening properly - iMessage, Facetime, Skype etc. This seems to have been happening since I downloaded OS X Mavericks. I've tried repairing the disk and the disk permissions as well as reinstalling OS X, all of which someone from Apple advised. However this doesn't seem to have made any difference. I'm pretty sure there is some software on my laptop which is causing this to happen but I don't know what. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lara.

Thanks Luis, i deleted by profile and added a new one.  Tried it and no error.  YEA!
But, how do i trash the preferences and revert to the original layout?  I would like to try that too before having to rebuild by profile etc....
    Thanks

  • Desktop software keeps crashing when it tries to sync organizer info

Normally, I use Outlook for all of my emails/calender/whatever it is that I happen to be doing, and aside the occasional duplicates of contacts or appointments (if you happen to know how to avoid this as well, I swear, I will build a temple in your honor!), I haven't had any real trouble. Since Outlook has randomly decided to stop working with my live email account, and since that's pretty much the only reason I actually really use outlook, I decided to give windows calender a try and see if it would sync all right with my phone. I exported a calender and did a one-way sync to my blackberry without any problems...but now, any time I connect my phone to the computer, it automatically tries to sync the phone to the calender and crashes.
I realize it's probably a simple fix and I'm probably missing something completely obvious....but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to FIX it?

    Hi kkthekitty,
    Welcome to the Support Community!
Can you please provide more information on the synchronization issue you are having?
What version of BlackBerry® Desktop Software do you have installed?
What is the full error message you receive when synchronizing your calendar?
Is your calendar stored locally in a .pst file on your computer or are Microsoft® Outlook® and Windows® Calendar connecting with your calendar in Windows Live™ webmail to synchronize?
    Thanks,

  • Update all flash-related software modules?

I cannot figure out how to update all .dll and .ocx flash-related files on my system.  I have already gone through the usual update routine by visiting http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, which tells me I have version 10.0.32.18 of Flash player installed.
However, there are other flash-related modules installed which Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 flags as security risks.  Going through Creative Suite 3 update does not yield any available updates at this time.  Here is what KAV 2009 finds as security threats:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS3\browser\plugins\NPSWF32.dll - version 9.0.45.0
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS3\Configuration\Plugins\NPSWF32.dll - version 9.0.45.0
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\configuration\Plugins\NPSWF32.dll - version 9.0.45.0
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\AIK\runtimes\air\win\Adobe AIR\Versions\1.0\NPSWF32.dll - version 9.0.115.0
    C:\Windows\System32\NPSWF32.dll - version 9.0.45.0
    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash10b.ocx - version 10.0.22.87
Is there any update process in place to handle all this in one go?  Finding and replacing these things one-by-one (let alone typing in all the above) is tedious an inefficient just once.  On a regular basis it just won't get done in a timely manner.

    Hi Michael,
Let's try going back to older versions of the player to determine if we've got a new bug against 11.2.  I'd recommend running through the clean install steps (or at least running the stand alone uninstaller), then installing 11.1.102.63 (unzip and locate the dmg).  After testing that, run the uninstaller again and then go back to 10.3.183.18.  Finally, I'd also recommend trying out 11.3 beta out to see if it occurs there too.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • All Non-Apple Apps Keep Crashing

I updated the firmware on my friend's iPhone 3Gs from 4.1 to 4.3.3 using my computer. This is not the computer that my friend used to sync the iPhone and it was the first time when the iPhone was synced to my computer. I noticed now that all non-Apple apps crash when I try to start them. How could I fix this problem? Should I tell my friend to sync the 3Gs on the computer where it was synced before? Thanks.

    Thanks. It worked, indeed!

  • ALL of my applications keep crashing!!

Recently in the past week or so I've been having a LOT of trouble with my macbook.
At some points it's worse than others, but it /seems/ like the more I multitask the more they crash... And I do mean all my apps. Just a second ago my finder crashed, I sent an error report...Then my Firefox crashed, I sent an error report...and no my hot corners aren't working!!
It seems to crash every time something is loading or processing and I click something else. (Like if firefox is loading a youtube video and I click the back button for example)
I'm completely clueless as of what to do and extremely annoyed at the same time. If someone could help me it would be great. Should I just take it to the genius bar and hope that they crash when I'm there?

    HI Jeremy,
How much available disk space is there? Check available disk space.
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.
Boot from your install disk and make sure the hard drive is ok.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your MacBook.
Do you leave your MacBook on 24/7 so it can run cron tasks? (Maintenance)

  • X79A GD65 (8D) - Intel RSTe software keeps crashing

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone has this problem,
After I install Win 7 x64 SP1 and install the RSTe application from Intel it crashes whenever I try to bring up the GUI with an Assertion Failed : Abort = Quit, Retry = Debug, Ignore = Continue error and then a massive code string showing the statement generating the error. I have tried uninstalling it , re-installing it, installing the next version and a clean install of Win 7 x64 SP1.
Not absolutely necessary to have the PC running but anyone have any similar problem or have any suggestions ?
    Thanks

  • FCPx Software keeps crashing when I color treat

Running to an issue with FCPx.  Anytime I go to color treat a clip, I get an error message and the software quits.  It only happens if I'm color treating or adjusting the contrast or exposure.  Doesn't happen on every adjustment but it does happen quite often.  Maybe 1 out of 5 adjustments.
I've remove the only 3rd party plugin which is Coremelt Lock N Load, uninstalled the software and re-installed it.  Same issue.  I can't for the life of me figure out why.
    My computer specs:
    FCPx 10.1.1
    12 Core 2.7
    32 GB RAM
But this happens on my Retina MacBook Pro too, not just my MacPro.

Thanks Luis, i deleted by profile and added a new one.  Tried it and no error.  YEA!
But, how do i trash the preferences and revert to the original layout?  I would like to try that too before having to rebuild by profile etc....
    Thanks

  • My iPhone 4s keeps crashing due to the latest 8.0.2 software

The latest software keeps crashing my phone. I can't upload photos to Instagram and the general use of the phone has slowed down massively!
There has to be a way of fixing this?

Absolutely agree. It's like having an old dumb-phone. I've had more app crashes and hard reboots in the last week or so than I had in the precessing 2 years. Even Photos, Camera and Music, Apple's own apps running on their own device and OS, are completely unusable. I'm waiting for 8.1 to fix this. If it doesn't I'm going back to 7.1.2 and staying there. It should not have been installable on a 4S with performance like this.
