All Ipod content deleted. No idea why.
I plugged my 80G Ipod classic into the computer yesterday evening to charge it and I proceeded to play music from the Ipod library through my computer. Later I disconnected the Ipod properly as usual but everything had been wiped. Music, videos, playlists, photos and podcasts. The only thing still there was the games.
I put everything in my itunes library back onto the Ipod (which is only about half of the total amount as I deleted many CDs to make room on the computer.)
So I don't know what I did or why it happened, I just know I have to rip all my CDs back on again and remake my playlists!
Help so I don't do it again!

Could be any number of reasons for the library to get corrupted. I've personally triggered it with an attempt to create a "Recently added & unplayed" smart playlist. As I noted in this thread if you are prepared then it may be possible to roll back the iPod to the moment before the library went west. Sorry to hear that you'll have to re-rip your CD's however relying on the iPod for long term storage is a bad idea. As you've seen it can suffer from corruption, physical damage or complete loss. If you need to clear space on your hard drive, invest in an external hard drive (250gb < £60) & relocate some or all of your library on to it.

Time Machine runs huge backups all the time. Any Idea Why & How to Fix It?
Right now System Preferences for TM says there is 881MB of available space on my Time Capsule with 998GB of storage. The TM system preferences has been stuck for hours saying it's backed up 31GB out of 68GB. No error messages. My wife and I only use the TC for TM backups.
Any idea why I'm not getting the much smaller incremental, hourly backups that I"m expecting? This is really slowing down my system.
Thanks,
Bob

Why does all the content delete from my iPod everytime it connects to iTunes
I'm getting real frustrated and I am getting sick of the same thing happening everytime. I don't know if it's my computer or if it's iTunes. I have an iPod classic 160Gb, the computer is Acer - Aspire One 772 (it's junk, but it works for the time being) Windows 7 (64)
Here is what happens: I only have podcasts in my iTunes. I have about 15 different podcasts and about 169 episodes in my iTunes. I check and download episodes daily. After downloading episodes, I hook up my iPod to transfer new podcasts to the iPod. iTunes shows everything working fine but after ejecting my pod and looking to see if they transferred they are all deleted. I get angry and want to break everything but I resist.
To get podcasts onto my iPod I have to restart my computer, open iTunes, reset sync history, then connect my iPod. It doesn't get recognized, so I have to restore the iPod. After restoring I sync it up. Lately it has been freezing during the sync at about 65 episodes. I have to force iTunes to shut down and sometimes go through the restore process. So after listening to my iPod all day, I will come home, check for and download new episodes and hook up my iPod and bam...no more podcasts on my iPod. I need solutions on what could be causing this and how to fix it.
This is what I have done so far: I have tried another iPod classic and the same thing happens. I have deleted iTunes and reinstalled it. I have checked the iPods with Windows for errors and bad sectors. My last option that I am holding out on, is to delete iTunes and delete all the podcasts from the computer. When I first got this temp. computer everything worked good. I do not know what happened.
Any ideas, thoughts and solutions are welcomed.
Thanks,

New Computer & want to put all ipod contents on it
I have purchased a new PC with windows 7. I have all my songs on my ipod classic. I want to load all the songs that are on my ipod onto my new computer. How do I do this? I cannot access my old computer, it crashed. Please help! Thanks!
1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive -
Hi,
I had to format my computer and lost all data. I thought I would just sync my Ipod from Ipod to computer and be done with it.
Well, it didn't work. For some reason I can't seem to get the songs from my iPod in my iTunes library.
Another thought was to just pull the songs from the Ipod onto my computer and then from there into my Itunes library, but I only see 4 folders (foto's, notes, etc) i can't see the MP3's Any reason why.
Hope anyone can help me with this.

30 G video Windows XP ProIf you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. How to take "Other" (64.9 GB) off 80 GB iPod classic. Have no idea what "Other" could be.
Only content on device is 11.4 GB of music.Other usually consists of specific files and that are not readable by iTunes such as the iPod's operating system, files that may be stored on the iPod (when using it as an external hard drive), album artwork, and games. However, sometimes, it always consists of corrupt files that are leftover from sync operations with iTunes that went bad.
The only way to reduce the size of the Other category is to connect the iPod to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.

I recently bought a bunch of songs with an iTunes giftcard through my 2nd generation ipod touch. I went to transfer the songs onto my computer but it wouldn't allow me to do so. Instead, it said I had to restore and update my ipod. So, I did that and it deleted everything on my ipod! I went to upload everything but I can't find the newest songs that i bought because I didn't transfer them to the computer!! How can I get them back without repurchasing all of them!?!?!?!?!
HELP!!

Mac Mail not receiving all of my mail -- any ideas why not or how to fix?
My Mac Mail is my main work account -- I'm a freelancer & work from home. In the past month or so, about 4 work contacts have asked me why I haven't responded to emails I never received, which leads me to wonder how many other emails I haven't received. I don't care as much about dropped personal ones, but dropped work emails are a serious bummer.
Any idea how I can check what's going on or fix somehow? Not sure whether this is a Mac Mail issue or something else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Could this have something to do with it?

Problem: Apps won't open, Music, Movies iPod contents dissappear
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
The other day, I just turned off my phone and turned it back on. Then all my downloaded apps stopped working. I would try to open and they would begin to open only to go back to my iPhone screen.
Then I noticed all iPod contents (Movies, music, Audiobooks) were gone. I ended up restoring my phone which worked temporarily.
It happened again yesterday. Had to restore again.
It happened again just now. Can't restore right now.
I have many applications 40+. I guess it could be one of those causing it but I'm also thinking it might be a hardware issue.
Anyone else have this or a similar problem?
Thanks!Does your apps work? I'm guessing they don't.
Just uninstall all your apps through iTunes. It will take forever but once its done, check your music. If its still missing, power off your phone and power it on.
The music should return. If it didn't, you might have to restore it. You can contact Apple if you like.
Then go through and install the apps you want one at a time. Don't go too much over 20. If you install too many, you will have the problem again and you'll have to repeat the steps above.
Hopefully the next update will fix the problem. I think I read some places where downgrading to iTunes 7.7 fixed their issue but I didn't go through all that. -

After I deleted some videos and photos, I am having trouble with my camera. The photos I have taken since are blurry, any idea why?
First double click the home button and swipe to close any open apps. Next reset, press and hold the home and power buttons for 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own. Try taking a photo.

i plugged my ipod into the computer, and it deleted all my content ( i didnt know that at the time - i wasnt paying attention). now when i plug it in again, i only have my photos, and 3 gigs of what it calls "other". i have no idea what this "other" could be. now i cant redownload my music.
Hi,
That much "other" is usually corrupt data, to fix it you need to restore and resynch.
Good luck,
Dud. -
I cannot plug it into iTunes and reload as my MacBook crashed a few days ago and I had to get a new hard drive. Recovery software is unable to retrieve anything from the hard drive.
All the songs were from CDs so not saved in iTunes.
The iPod was last plugged into the MacBook one day before it crashed and it was Ok when I ejected it.
Could it be anything to do with this? Doesn't an iPod have its own memory? Any ideas why it has happened and if their is anyway of retrieving it? Is it best to just take it into an apple shop? I am no longer covered with apple support.
Thanks. When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage. -
I have an apple certified refurbished iPod touch 3rd generatio. When playing the music with headphones, the music moves from song to song. When it is on a docking station, it repeats the song. Any ideas why or how to fix it?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -
I have an IPod 5th generation and I would like to delete all personal content, and be signed out of my Apple ID as well, but there are apps that no longer exist on the apple store that I would like to keep.
Do this:

Then go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
