All kinds of problems on a Mac

It wasn't so long ago that AIR was working fine on my Mac
with Leopard 10.5.3. Now whenever I try and run an app, I get "This
application requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer
supported." I thought it was isolated to the app I was trying to
run, but it was for every AIR app I tried. So I thought maybe my
AIR runtime wasn't up to date. I go to the download page to get the
most recent version and try running it, but then I get "An error
occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be
allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
But, I am the administrator. So I tried running the uninstaller,
and I get the same error about not being allowed by the admin.
Here's what I get in Console:

So, you can see the kinda mess I'm in. I can't even
uninstall. I tried repairing permissions, but no change. Any

Both of these are adware/spyware and cause performance issues in Firefox.

10.7 was horrible unstable so I waited until 10.7.1 and tried it again. Well I have to say that it is still a defective OS. I am reverting to Snow as we speak from my carbon clone copy.. This is really the worst OSX I have ever used. It gives me random Kernel panics for no reasons, unstable airport and hundreds of small issues that are just not necessary. For instance I can't use QuickTime in Lion to trim a videoclip ( the UI goes mad and the trimslider becomes inoperable and hangs the Player window ) while in Snow it is no problem. Itunes gives me crackling sound when the equalizer is turned on, Graphical glitches in Photoshop, games crashing, Preview.app not working with some pdfs, so I need Adobes reader which I never used before.. It is definately not ripe for mass usage. Might 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 fix it, but not yet.
* and just for the records : the hardware is absoltely ok. Because in Snow it works as it should. ( So many Lion fanbois are talking : "your Ram is defect", defintely NOT. - Lion is defect! ).

All kinds of problems after new 808 video camera.

Lots of new minor (so far) problems have cropped up lately. iCal sometimes does not notify me of events. These are regularly scheduled events (like bill payments) that have been working for years. This has cost me a couple of late payment charges so far. If I open iCal to investigate, the notices are on the iCal page, and if I close iCal, they are not there when I open iCal again. Normally, they don't disappear unless I click on the little X. I tried to register about 5 times for a Photobucket account by filling out the fields on the registration page. One of 3 things happened when I clicked on "continue" at the bottom; it erased all of the fields that I filled in, Safari closed, or it told me that the format for the user i.d. was wrong. It didn't tell me what the format was so I clicked on "help", and then it told me that I should be using a computer to register. I guess it thought I was on a smart phone or something. I was on a another website and I tried to get some information that required me to input my zip code. When I typed the first digit, it appeared in the leftmost position of the zip code field. When I typed the second digit, it replaced the first digit (ie, it appeared in the leftmost digit position). When I typed the third digit, it replaced the first digit. I tried entering the entire zip code and clicking on "enter", in hope that was receiving my zip code even though it was not being displayed, but it did not work. Sometimes, when I am typing in a password or other field, the characters don't appear for a few seconds. I will be typing and watching the field and the characters will stop appearing. I will think that I didn't press the key down far enough, and I will type it again and nothing will appear, and type it again and then 3 of that character will appear.
These problems seem to have started about the time I started using a tiny, cheap Chinese video camera. When I downloaded a video from the camera, it took about 4 times as long to download it as the length of the video (12 minutes to download a 3 minute video). I downloaded about 40 minutes of video, watched them on iMovie, then deleted them. Could the camera have been shipped with a virus in it? Is there anything else that could cause all these problems?

It's possible but it would not have affected your Mac because _*there are no OS X viruses.*_
Have you tried another browser? Tried any basic troubleshooting?
Boot up from your install DVD and run *"Repair Disk"* from the Utility menu.
If you installed anything onto your computer from the camera, uninstall it.

All Kinds of Problems with my MacBook Pro

I've got a MBP Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.8. Here's the problems
Okay, this all happened at once without me doing anything different than I do everyday. No changes, or maintenance programs run...just normal computing. Okay, so today I open iTunes and it says that the library is corrupt and forces me to reimport all of my music. Then, I open iPhoto and the same thing happened...library is gone. The files are still there, but I had to reimport them. Then, iWeb won't open at all...it just has one of those "Report to Apple" things that comes up. In Mail, all of my smart folders were still there, but my e-mails were all gone until it redownloaded them from the server. When I opened Skype I had to re-"Agree to terms" and retype in my username and password. Oh yeah, and all of my iCal calendars were gone.
So I got everything back up and running, reset my computer and the same thing happened again.
Does ANYBODY know what's going on? I'm about to move out of the country and don't want to deal with this stuff in an area with no Apple Support close by.

Try this for starters. You may have a disk issue.
Boot from your system CD, run Disk First Aid from your Disk Utility and repair your permissions.

My lock button no longer works on my ipod touch and now i have all kinds of problems with it freezing and kicking me out of apps. Is there any way to get this fixed and were would i go to get it fixed?

Please Help!!!! I have an ipod touch 4th gen. and since the last update the lock button no longer works, this has caused it to have a lot of problems now like freezing all the time, kicking me out of almost all my apps, some times even when if locks on its own its not locked and buttons with be pushed in my pocket, and this causes the battiery to die fast. I really love my ipod and would like to just get it fix if possible for a reasonable about of money. Anyone know of a place I can get it fixed in Ft Lauderdale Fl area or is there something I can do?

My 3-year-old Macbook is suddenly having all kinds of problems.

Symptoms, all within a few weeks with no warning: First iTunes got corrupted. Then lots of 'corrupt file' error message with Word (seems to be xlsx files). Then Entourage started crashing repeatedly and hanging up. The fan started coming on a lot.
What I've done: Visited the genius bar. Scanned the disks--no problems there. Installed and ran iAntivirus--no problems there. Did a clean install of OS X. Did a few one-off solutions that I found on other forms to address fan and Entourage database problem.
Result: Even after the reinstall, I am still getting corrupt Word files. Fan still comes on more than it should.

The Genius should have done a SMART scan. That is standard procedure, especially with a new hard drive.

Macbook 2.0 intel core duo ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS HELP PLS

This all started last week. In an effort to be more economical, I decided to keep my macbook and not get a new one. The battery was not doing well...so i bought a new one. I purchased Leopard and tried to install it...it installed but after it just stayed stuck on the gray apple screen. I tried troubleshooting. I reinstalled Tiger that came with it and it had the same problems. Anyways...a couple days ago I tried to reinstall Tiger again and it started working. I have been having problems with the rainbow wheel coming up all the time...so I figured maybe the ram is bad. I ordered new ram from crucial. I got it today and installed it and now the macbook will not even power up. I followed the troubleshoot guidelines and even installed the old ram again nothing.
So, I'm stuck. Is the logic board again? I had it replaced like 7 months after getting the macbook and now it is out of warranty. Please help. Thanks

Since you say it worked to some degree but then not at all after installing new RAM and then after reinstalling the old RAM it would not even work as well as it had prior to the RAM installs, then it sounds like one possibility could be that the logic board is failing do to cracked circuit traces (caused by thermal cycling) and the removing and reinstalling the RAM exacerbated the problem.
The next thing I would try to do would be to cool down the computer to 50F or so and try it. Next try heating it up to 90F or so and try again. The temperature changes can affect a defective logic board. Not that this will solve your problem, but it can tend to validate the possibility of a defective board.

All kinds of problems... can't enter bios, etc

Hey all, hoping you can help. I only have one system at home which is now not working, so pardon me if I'm a little slight on details.
I got a K8T Neo m/b with an athlon 64 3000 and 1gb of Kingston RAM. It was all acquired as a bundle from Mwave.com, who I've done lots of business with before, and always had good luck.
I threw it all in my old case and hooked everything up. P/S is a 350W by the way, and seems to work fine. I have a 60gb western digital HD and a cd writer- have tried various IDE options and nothing seems to make a difference.
Here's the problem. The thing boots, I get the logo screen. I hit tab to clear the logo and try F11 for the boot setup or del for the BIOS. Niether works. It loads the Promise SATA driver and says No BIOS loaded or something of that sort. Here it says hit TAB to enter setup, which leads me to what looks like a RAID setup which then freezes. No big deal, I'm not trying to use RAID anyway.
so if I let it run past that point, it goes back to the POST screen and says Checksum error, and something else (sorry can't remember, should have taken notes). At this point it lists the POST options; delete to enter BIOS setup, F11 for boot menu, F12 I think to reset bios, somethin like that. Anyway, none of it works. At this point (below the checksum error note) it also lists two options- F1 to enter options (BIOS options I assume) or F2 to do something else (forgot again, sigh). Anyway, the only key that does anything at this point is F2, which then tries to boot from network, where it hangs indefinately.
Have tried clearing the BIOS with the jumper and by removing the battery. Major problem seems to be that I just cant enter the bios.
Thats all I can get it to do. I'm really ready to toss it out a window, quite frankly, so any help would be appreciated!

It's not a wireless keyboard with the F key at top, which you have to press before the F keys work?
Other than that just keep clicking the bottom right DEL key, mine does much the same to start with and does not enter bios setup till after the TAB key screen ( just let that pass) then the next post screen is the SATA disks on mine, then it enters the Bios setup.

That may be a problem related to network settings on your computer, or on the router that you use for connecting to the Internet. Take a look at this article for a possible solution

The specific problem is that you cannot connect to the iTunes Store when using the iTunes app, even through your computer has Internet access.

Just updated to Maverick on my IMac and have all kind of problems with Iphoto and Mailbox

I recently updated my IMac to Maverick and was not aware of all the problems that came with this update. In Iphoto a lot of pictures disappeared and other are turned upside down other were wrong format. In the mailbox I tried to sort by name of sender to find out that names of sender are not matching the mail. One name that I have had on e conversation with was related to 10 mails with NO connection to him. Have made all the updates to latest version Iphoto promelem remains.

Re iphoto, back up first then rebuild the library as follows.

All kinds of problems

I received an email this morning from a client - a client that sends me multiple messages per day without issue. Attached to the message was an Excel spreadsheet. I clicked the attachment to open it and got a warning that it was an application and the name ended in .hqx. I cancelled the operation and saved the attachment to my desktop where it appeared as an Excel file. At this point Mail unexpectedly quit.
I double clicked the saved attachment on my desktop and it launched Excel... everything looked fine, I printed it, saved the changes and returned to my next project - working in FileMaker. From FileMaker I created PDF and saved it to my desktop. I dragged this PDF onto my Mail icon in the Dock. Mail launched but it did not open a new message with the file attached.
I opened a new message manually, and tried to drag the PDF in to the message. The arrow changed to the arrow with the green + but still it did not attach. I next tried to attach the message using the File > Attach File... menu option. This also did not work.
During all of this, other emails were coming in without issue. Until I tried to reply. I click the Reply button and nothing happens. Same goes for the Reply All and the Forward button.
Reading the console, I get this error each time I click any of the aforementioned buttons, or try to drag in a file to be attached.

Additionally, pressing Apple+Q does not quit Mail anymore. The File menu gets highlighted, and then nothing. Usually the app will quit unexpectedly a few seconds/minutes after I initiate the keyboard request to quit.
I reinstalled OSX, I removed the LaunchServices prefs from Macintosh HD, and from User/Library (at different times), and now I am really, really stumped.
Help. Please.

OK... it looks like I solved the problem, though I have no idea why this fixed it.
I reviewed the Console Log and found another error message:
pktResponseHndlr - received malformed response to query for 105.2.168.192.in-addr.arpa. (12)
My location was set to use a static IP with DHCP. I changed this to DHCP and the error disappeared, and my Mail issues vanished.
Thoughts?

Iphoto 11 *****. I was upgraded without asking and lost all my library. Then had to reload library and now it wants to play games with faces. I have millions of thumbnail faces I don't want, didn't ask for and its creating all kinds of problems.

iphoto 11 *****! Slower, yawn....... freezes........yawn and forever wanting to sort out faces for me when I DONT WANT FACES and why was imposed on me without my consent?

And I still don't have a clue what the actual problem is.
Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
You launch iphoto - what happens? What do you see when the problem or issue actually occurs.
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

All Kinds of Problems with 5th Gen 60GB

Okay so my problems started out by the ipod freezing after playing a few songs. It would show the screen for the next song but then never start playing and it would stay that way until the battery died. I couldn't reset it or turn it off or anything during that time. Then after the battery died and I recharged it, it would start up fine but then freeze again after maybe 10 songs. After a few cycles of doing this I charged it again and then all of my songs were gone from the ipod, and I plugged it into my computer and Windows and iTunes would not recognize it.

I also have this problem, I have had my ipod for just over 1 year (12 days out of warrenty). I have never had any problems, until I updated to itunes7 and the newest ipod software 1.2?? Ever since my ipod will start up for about 30 seconds then freezes, if its playing a song, the screen will freeze then it will let the song finnish then stop. I have reset it, and restored it, deleted the updates in itunes, used different usb cables and ports, etc and the thing just keeps on freezing really unimpressed as it was fine before updating.
PLEASE HELP US.......
