All Mail Accounts Offline

All my IMAP accounts have gone offline and hence I can not recieve any messages on my MAC. However, I am able to send mail and the connection doctor shows SMTP as online ( Green Dot), whereas all IMAPs as offline ( Red Dot). Accounts include Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Mail.com and iCloud. I have been facing this problem for 4 to 5 days.

Hi - I have the same problem but it re-occurs every day. It seems to happen after the mac goes to sleep. It's really annoying as I have to restart mail 3-4 times a day and each time I restart it it works fine. I have several email accounts - mostly gmail accounts - looks very similar to the screenshot above in that the IMAP's have red dots, the others green. There are also accounts in there that I don't have anymore which is strange!
Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me nuts!

  • Mail takes all mail account offline.  I have duplicated this twice now.  Let see if we can solve this.

I see others have had this problem but I do not see a solution.  Simply put mail takes all accounts offline.  The user is unable to return them to online status.  Logging out  or restarting will not allow the reenabling of the accounts.  It takes deleting some of the files associated with mail and re entering the accounts info.  I have seen this happen only when I have high date rate incoming internet traffic and mail attempts to retrieve the mail and it may take a few times.  I download quite a few linux dvd isis so at time my bandwidth is full.  This is when it has happened every time.
Even after the traffic has ceased mail is unable to connect.  I ran disk util to see if there was a permission problem.  I disabled the firewall to see if something changed there.  Now note only mail seems affected i.e. internet usage is not.  I tried pinging the smtp server no returns.

What files contain the config data for mail?  The plist file?
Before I forget this is a macbook pro running 10.9.3 OS X   Mail is Version 7.3 (1878.2)
connection doctor says  mail was able to connect to the internet( notice trace route appears okay) but then complains the servers are unreachable.
Any thoughts, things to try etc.?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • All mail accounts offline when disconnecting from HMA pro

Im using Airport Extremes WLAN  for internet access.
Every time I disconnect from HMA! VPN Pro , secure internet encryption application, all my mac mail accounts go offline. All available SMTP servers including gmail smtp server which according HMA Helpline is whitelisted , are  all off-line. No way to bring them back alive again.Cant send or receive any email. Quitting HMA and reloading  mail doesn't work. It drives me nuts. Support from HMA is poor. They say to use gmail smtp servers instead any others because they are "whitelisted". but even gmail is steadily offline. Tried to change ports as suggested in their troubleshooting section- without success.
Only thing that does the trick is to switch to my iPhone's personal  hotspot. But switching back to WLAN again sets all accounts offline again.
Another workaround is to restart the complete system 10.8.5 and not log on to HMA which is quiet a nuisance. AS soon as I log in I can't send email again through mac mail program (which according HMA's support section "is normal"-). Logging on to HMA  must doe some nasty thing to the WLAN settings in the background which I can't figure out. So far I have  not received any solution to this nuisance from HMA.
Anybody out there having similar problems and possible solutions?
    Help is very much appreciated!!

Here's what i did, I had the same problem. Go to the finder/go/computer/yourname/library/preferences. move the file com.apple.mail.plist to the trash bin. But before you do this copy all the info on your account for your isp. Such as user name, password , incomming server, and outgoing server info. This worked for me. Good luck

  • All Mail accounts offline and won't come back

Suddenly this morning, all accounts (4) on my main, desk, computer went off line. Nothing I do brings them back. I've reset all login credentials and am out of ideas.
    - I've checked with my ISP and they find nothing wrong
    - other emails in our domain still working
    - in fact, the mail is coming in on my other devices -- iPad, iPhone, Air, etc. (so it's not the server, clearly)
I'm left to think the Mail app on this one computer has something wrong.
Anybody know anything I can do?
Running 10.6.8 and Mail ver 4.6
    Please help!

    Thanks!
Seemed the answer was to disenable each account in Preferences, then click Enable This Account back to on. Each one in turn came back on line. Also found the problem in another computer in the office and it worked to bring that one back also.
    Much appreciated.

  • All Mail accounts offline since upgrade to OSX 10.9.5

All my Mail mailboxes went offline a little while after upgrading to OSX 10.9.5 and Safari to 7.1 yesterday. Still have internet access but unable to to get Mail up and running.

I have the same issue with Mac Mail after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks & Safari 7.1.
When I use hotmail via the webmail service outlook.com I have no problem to receive and send e-mails.
Also if I use MS Outlook 2011 e-mail cliënt, I have no problem at all with to receive and send e-mails.
The conclusion is that the problem is with Mac Mail app.
Maybe a tip to mail directly via the webmail service or the website of your ISP.

  • Only one signature for all mail accounts very limiting

while the iphone is a very cool tool, i'm using the iphone for personal and work email,
and i find it very limiting that there is only one signature possible for all mail accounts.
standard, we all found out is written "written on my iphone" or something like that.
i always thought it was very dorky when i read that from blueberry users last year, (as if i'm interested that someone reads and writes his work e-mails from a mobile)
so, lets stop pretending it is cool to mail from the iphone, but just do it with all functionality it should have.
like having multiple signatures for example with work signature when i'm working, and personal signatures when not
meanwhile, can you (apple support) please help me loose less time when i want to erase my work signature every time i want to e-mail personally by adding functionality like "selecting bulk" and "cutting" (and then allowing to copy and paste while you're at it) to your sdk, Pronto please!
    thanks!
anyone agrees? please follow up. maybe it helps speed up the improvement..

Once you sync your mail accounts with iTunes the first time, you can turn that off in iTunes. You don't need to do that anymore, unless you make a change to the account. It only syncs the settings. You can reset the sync history after deleting the accounts from your phone and then do another sync. That should correct the problem. I'm not as familiar with Mac computers, but maybe someone with a Mac can help a little.
    Hope this answers your questions.

  • How to acivate autoresponder on all mail accounts on iPad? Any tips

How to acivate autoresponder on all mail accounts on iPad? Any tips

Actually, Yahoo is Imap (as is google).  but the point remains - if you are using a pop account, you need to delete the mail from each device.(pop is basically a one way system).  If you have an imap account, changes you make of one device are communicated to all your other devices.

  • Mail accounts offline after sleep

    Hi,
Mail is driving me crazy at the moment. After the laptop has slept all acounts appear offline. The the only wayI can get them back is to restart the app. Choosing 'take accounts online' does nothing.
Seen various posts onolder versions of osx saying delete prefs but they appear to have moved / changed ??
Any ideas how to sort this out ? Or is it a known bug ?
    Thanks

At least for the time being, I may have resolved this by using Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

  • Mail accounts offline after computer wakes

When my computer wakes up from sleep, the mail accounts won't come back on line.  The only solution is to close Mail then re-open it.  All was working fine with Lion.

I am seeing this sometimes on my MBP with ML (and only there) with my 5 accounts (POP) provided by my ISP, although seldom all 5 at the same time.  Most of the time, if I check Online Status, they aren't always Offline (shown by the only option being offered is to Take Offline) but unresponsive to getting new messages.  Typically if I control-click on the Inbox of any one of them, and choose Get Account Info, then that routine can communicate with the server and show all messages on the server.  If they are Online, then with the individual Online Status status check I can take them Online.  If not showing Offline, then the status later gets updated if I am patient.
Never happens to my other accounts, most of which are IMAP, nor does it happen consistently.  I continue to investigate.  I keep wondering if some sort of check is being done while asleep, which fails, and results in this.

  • Lost all mails when offline

I am moving my web-domaine including mail accounts to a new server. In the transition I am offline wíth the server that used to be my web and mail host. Now, all my emails, that up til today was visible in the Mail application, is gone. Some are still there as a subject, but when I click on them, I get this:
"The message from (...senders name) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
In the mail accounts preferences (advanced) I have had checked the box for "remove copy from server after retrieving a message (after 1 day).
Can somebody tell me the logic here?
    Thankful for help!
    Regards from Oystein

I have to disagree with j.v., as this same thing has happened to me before and I don't have any IMAP accounts. As you said, your messages were set to be deleted from the server after one day, so they are gone.
But I believe you probably haven't lost your messages at all; your Mail index may simply be corrupted. You can rebuild it by doing this:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Go to Users/username/Library/Mail and move the Envelope Index file to your Desktop, but do not delete it.
    3. Launch mail; you'll see a Welcome to Mail screen asking where you want to import messages from. Accept the default selection and wait for it to finish.
    4. Launch Mail and see if you can access those messages that are "missing". If you can, then delete the Envelope Index file on your Desktop.

  • Mail usage high (3 gigs) after deleting ALL mail accounts

I have a 4s.  My mail usage was 3.1G.  I need that space. I deleted all 3 mail accounts and turned off iCloud.  Mail usage dropped to 3G.
How do I recover those 3 gigs?
    So aggravating.  Any ideas?
    Rick

Doing a restore did fix the problem.  Thanks.  For those doing the same, be sure to save your music playlists somewhere - the backup and restore did not restore my music playlists.  That seemed to be the only thing not to restore.  I recovered nearly 5 gigs.

  • All mail accounts disappeared from mail

Today, I can not get any mail from my mail accounts becaue no accounts are listed. I migrated to iCloud, but it didn't do any good. Mail.app is now useless and I have no way to send or receive email. What the **** do I do now????

OK, I have solved it by using the instructions posted here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
However, now that my @mac.com account has gone from my Mail.app, I can't get at any past mail that was listed by the thousands in the inbox under [email protected]
Is there any way that I can migrate all the mail that was listed under @mac.com to the @me.com iCloud account? If I enable the @mac.com account I can see the list, but Mail app keeps trying to download mail from a that server that no longer exists and ties things up.
    Anybody?

  • Apple Mail: Lost all Mail accounts and emails - after reboot - how to recover?

    Here is what happened:
    upgrade to 10.8.4.
    macbook air froze
    I held down power button
reboot took a looong time ... I nearly thought the little "meter" on the grey screen was stuck. But it finally came through:
I then logged in as usual
    opened Mail
and nearly died, since all my 7 mail-accounts were gone + all emails gone
    except mobile me account
    tried restarting, restart mail.
mail crashed almost immidiately upon opening.
then I did what linc davis said in https://discussions.apple.com/message/22477277?tstart=0#22477277?tstart=0 and mail started anew, and now Mail doesn't crash straight away.
It seemed to import my mobile me mails, but comes up with the "!" sign next to my mobile me account and: "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” on port 143 timed out."
I have verified that username and paswword are correct and saved in preferences.
But anyways; thanks to another post from you elsewhere I have located my 7 mail accounts in subfolders to something called the V2 folder. There are 6 POP accounts each in a folder and one I think is called EWS.
So: How to I restore these POP accounts in Apple Mail and reimport all my (vital) emails from the last two years?
phew, I have loved working in mac OX for as long as I remember ... but this experience, I could have done without.
I really, really hope some genius can help out. Thanks

Mail isn't showing your eMails correctly or what?
Might try this before we restore anything...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ does not exist.
