All mail being "Junked"

Mac mail, OS 10.9.3, is labeling all mail as junk. Junk is now disabled.
This is happening to mail from a variety of email providers,
junk is disabled now at the web level too.
Have not changed any other variables. In addition, I have "lost"
saved mail. Any thoughts?

Were you able to find the messages in the Junk folder?
Go to User's Library **
Scroll to Containers folder
Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop
Scroll to Mail folder in User's Library
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
Log Out/In under the Apple in the Menu bar.
Open Mail
When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
**Show Library Folder:
Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
Let me know if this helps. If you continue to have problems, please give details.
What type of account(s)? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)
What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)

  • Wanted mail being junked

Live mail has a habit of junking mail that I wanted to receive, and over Christmas a whole batch of mail has not come through.  I try and check the junk mail section - but it takes time to log in and check, which I don't always have.  I usually
read all my mail through Outlook Express which my wife really likes, and I have tuned to do what I want.
I have just had a mail message to say that a particular sender couldn't get through to me.  So what I really need, and I suspect others do as well, is a way of me deciding whether mail is junk or not.  I am very happy with Live mail putting them
in to a Junk folder - but not for them to be then deleted before I have checked!!!!
Does anyone know of a way to set this up?  I have reported to Microsoft, but  sadly they only seem to listen when a big noise is made.
In the latest problem the message I had back contained the following:
Connected to 65.55.92.168 but sender was rejected.

  • Apple Mail - all mail in Junk Mail is categorized as "not junk"

My Junk Mail stopped working properly on Christmas Eve. The problems that are occurring since then are:
    1. Most junk mail is correctly sent to the Junk Mail folder, but so too are some (about one in ten) e-mails that are not junk. Those one in ten are already classified as "Not Junk" so I can't help the system to learn by reclassifying them as junk
    2. All e-mails in the Junk Mail folder have the standard blue ball icon and none have the junk mail icon
    3. All the e-mails in the Junk Mail folder are classified as "Not Junk"
    4. When I reclassify the items in the junk mail folder as junk, the blue ball icon does not change to the junk mail icon.
Are these four separate problems or part of one problem?
Any help with one or all of them would be much appreciated.
    Keith

What I'm saying is that originally Junk Mail that I received went directly into the Junk Mail Folder.
Now all previously marked Junk Mail comes and stays in my In Box.
Nothing is going to the Junk Mail folder on it's own like it did a few days agao.
I'm not using anything except Thunderbird.

  • All mail being sent from default account!!!!

Hello. I have four (4) email accounts linked to my iPhone. Whenever I send a message from any account, it sends it from the default account. Is there a way to fix this?
I'll try to explain in better like this ...
    - My default account is #1 of 4
    - I want to send a message from account #2
    - It sends find, but it sends it from account #1, not #2
    - So, when someone replies to my message, it gets sent to account #1, not #2 like it should.
I have talked to a few of my friends that have iPhones and they said theirs didn't do that, but they weren't sure how to fix it. Can anyone please help me!
    Thanks!

    jvnatale,
How are you sending messages? If you are sending a website link or a picture, it will use your default email address. If you want to send a message from a particular email, you need to go into Mail and into the account you want to send from before tapping on the new message icon. That way the iPhone knows you want to send from that account.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • All mail is being downloaded to Junk Folder

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, every time I do "Get Mail", all the newly downloaded mail goes into the Junk Mail folder, but none of it is marked junk! I am using the same Junk preferences I used in Leopard. If I uncheck "enable junk mail filtering", the Junk Folder disappears and so does my mail. But when I re-enable junk mail filtering, the mail reappears. I have tried rebuilding both the inbox and the junk folder, no joy. At this point, I have to move all downloaded mail from the junk folder to the inbox, then mark all junk mail as junk. What might be the solution to this problem? Should I delete the Mail preferences file?

Problem solved. Ken Gani on the Tidbits said it sounded like a mail rules problem. When I deleted the Mail-tags rules, which were left over from a demo version which I had installed many months ago on Leopard (Mail 3.6) the problem went away.

  • Alerts from iCal to Mail Being Tagged as Junk

All of the iCal alerts I have set to send an email to my email address are being tagged by Mail as Junk. The only filter I have set for Junk is "if not in my address book." How do I get this to stop?
    Thanks.
    Ted

This is what I have set up to prevent this problem:
Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail
Uncheck: Filter junk mail before applying my rules
    Mail > Preferences > Rules
    Add Rule: iCal Alarms
If all of the following conditions are met:
    From Contains [email protected]
    Subject Begins with Alarm
    Perform the following actions:
    Set Color of background Red
    Stop evaluating rules

  • All mail going in Junk folder

Since upgrading to Mavericks all my mail is going straight into my Junk folder apart from a trial email I sent to myself. It seems that it is not recognising genuine mail sent from anyone other than people in my contacts.
Has anyone any idea how I can change this from happening?

Have you made any changes to the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced? Try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

  • Has anyone solved the "all mail marked as junk" problem?

Mail marks almost all incoming mail and all sent mail as junk. I've found some inconclusive posts on this but no solution. Can anyone explain (or, better) fix this problem?

    Hi
have you read this thread? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=292113&tstart=100
esp about disabling junk filter & quitting mail.
You're using junk filter in automatic mode?
anyhow - blank field spam does seem to figure in breaking mail's junk filtering. Are you able to create a rule using the applescript linked to in my previous post?. If so - create one & put it at the top of the rule list to weed out any blank subject mail.
    Still a problem?
quit & restart mail - make sure junk filtering is enabled
    delete/empty the junk folder.
Find the mail in your inbox that's marked as junk & move it to the junk folder ( select them all & drag , or messages-move from the menu )
In the junk box, pick one of the moved messages & click 'not junk' - does it get moved back to the inbox? is it still marked as junk (assuming it did move back...)
If clicking 'not junk' isn't behaving - select all the messages & move/drag them back to the inbox. Are they still marked as junk? (hopefully not)
Repeat above with the 'sent' mailbox.
Disable junk filtering in mail prefs
quit mail & open it again
    re-enable junk filtering
    Any better?.....
If you're still having problems - make a note of all your rules ( you 'might' have to re-enter them)
    Quit mail
find the folder ~/library/Mail & drag a copy of the folder to the desktop (mouse + Alt) . Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/library/preferences/ & drag a copy of that to the desktop too.
These copies enable you to restore your mail to exactly as it is now - in case anything went wrong in the next stage. NOT that I expect it to, having tried all these things on my own mail installation......
Make sure mail is not running.
go into the original ~/library/Mail/ folder & trash these two files - LSMMap2 and MessageRules.plist
start Mail , go to prefs & make sure that junk filter is enabled for your account(s)
Send a message & see if it's marked as junk.
If you had a lot of rules & don't want to re-enter them manually - you can try quitting mail, replacing the MessageRules.plist file in the real Mail folder with the one from the copy made earlier & re-starting Mail.
If sent/junk is fixed - remember it may break again with a blank field email.
Sorry to write so much - but remember, I don't have the problem- so I can't test to see exactly what might fix it & just tell you the good bits.

  • All sent mail marked junk

All my sent mail is marked as junk for some reason. I've reset the junk mail filters, etc., but it is still marked. Any ideas?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows to thoroughly get rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    4. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
    5. Locate any MessageRules.plist (Mail 2.x) and/or MessageSorting.plist (Mail 1.x) files and move them to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    6. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    7. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    8. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Steps 7 and 8 may be unnecessary. Also, messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 7 and 8. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either try skipping those steps, or move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren’t a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail would rebuild them automatically.
    9. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail or take Mail offline immediately after opening it, to prevent Mail from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    10. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail and enable the junk filter.
    11. Go online again if you went offline in step 9.
    12. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
If the above solves the problem and you don’t have any rules you’d like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, the files moved to the Desktop in step 5 can be deleted.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • SpamAssassin 2010 issue - Marking mail as Junk

    Hi Folks,
It looks like we have officially arrived in the future. There is a known issue with SpamAssassin adding up to 3.6 points to all mail sent after 2010. You will see an increase in false positives until your server has been updated. The solutions have been posted on the SA site.
    http://spamassassin.apache.org/
    Two options:
Update the included rules, or disable the offending rule.
You can exclude the rule by adding "score FHDATE_PAST20XX 0" without the quotes to the end of your /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file.
I was able to update the built in rules with:
sudo sa-update --nogpg --updatedir /etc/mail/spamassassin --debug
You will most likely need to restart mail for either of these to take effect. Welcome to 2010, and a have a great year!
    -Matt

    Hi!
I've seen lots of false positives since 2010 and supposed I was affected by this problem. But the steps described didn't help me so far. I've been running sudo sa-update --nogpg --updatedir /etc/mail/spamassassin --debug
and I've been adding score FHDATE_PAST20XX 0 to /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf. Also I've followed the tips here http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/147/45/ and downloaded the .cf file into the spamassassin directory.
Reloaded amavis, nothing changed. Issued sudo serveradmin stop/start mail and postfix wouldn't load anymore. Restarted the server and found wrong permissions on amavisd. Postfix would'nt load anymore. Had to uncheck and check SMTP in SA to get mail running again. But the SPAM problem persisted.
Now I had to turn Junk mail filtering off in SA to prevent every mail from being marked as spam. Anyone has some tips for me?
Here is what I see in mail.log when mail is incoming:

  • What is included in All Mail?  mine is huge and it is not notes in files

'All Mail' on my mac shows almost 5,000 messages, but i have maybe a couple hundred if i include notes in file.  I have tried to trash some of the items shown in All Mail and they will not delete.  The Trash and Junk folders are empty.
This makes me look like I am getting close to using up my capabilities.  HELP

yes it is a gmail account.  i only have Apple products, and i use the Apple mail app.
a friend just told me she also had 1K trashed note reappear and hers is not a gmail account.
i finally was able to delete most of the 'all mail' notes.  but i now have notes in 'All Mail' that are in no file - they should be 'read notes' in the inbox.  but they are not in the inbox, and only in 'All Mail'  i thought everrything had to be in a folder (inbox being one folder)
thx for your reply - i am stumped

  • All mail going into spam folder

After upgrading to Lion all mail going straight to spam folder, even the addresses saved in address book.  Any suggestions on how to fix?

Is the folder actually called "Spam" or do you mean the "Junk" folder?
A "Spam" folder is not part of Mail, while a "Junk" folder is.
If it is going to "Junk" then check for any Rules in Mail preferences that might be causing it. If there aren't any, try Resetting the Junk email filters in the Junk Mail tab of preferences.
If it is "Spam," then check with Gmail or whatever email service you are using that is routing it there at the server level.

  • Various E Mail problems: Junk Mail, Log Off, etc

I am having various and frustrating problems that are intermittant.
I have two incoming e mail accounts, one is IMAP and one is POP.
    1. Junk Mail. After having reset my junk mail settings as advised on this site just a few days ago, I am continuing to experience this problem. Messages that the systems "knows" is Junk Mail do NOT go to Junk Mail folder, but to the regular In box. It knows they are Junk Mail because the Tab for changing the message at top of screen says "Not Junk", which means it thinks it is JUNK. They why won't it go into Junk Mail folder?
    2. When I try to delete these messages one by one in In box, the computer "freezes" and takes forever to delete the messages. The In box counter on left hand side of the screen does not decrease as I delete messages, but takes a long time (minutes) to catch up with the deletions.
    3. When receiving certain e mail from specific recipients, the system intermittantly says "message not dowloaded from server, you need to take this account on line". Well. it IS online! Again, this does not happen all the time, but often enough and from the same e mail recipients) that it is very frustrating.
    4. Oftentimes when I try to shut down, I get the dreaded spinning color wheel, only to have to force quit. This is a lengthy process, and then I lose all of the deletions that I have tried to make to my Inbox.
Are all of these problems somehow related? Cumulatively, they are very frustrating. I never had these kinds of issues with Windows Mail apps. Uuughh!
Thanks for reading and any assistance.

There appears to be a problem with the index.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move the “IMAP-” account folder to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folder, that accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring it back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

If the problem persists, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Junk settings, particularly for the IMAP account?
Also, what have you done to “reset [your] junk mail settings as advised on this site”? This is what I’d suggest:
    4. Open Window > Previous Recipients and get rid of any addresses that you don’t want Mail to treat as legit.

  • Where is "All Mail" in Mac Mail?

I have an email that arrived this morning at 8:08.  I have 6 email accounts setup in Mail.  Under Inbox, I see each of those accounts and their related mail.  I usually click Inbox and keep it there so I can see mail coming into any account.  The 8:08 email does not display under the general Inbox of emails.  I do a search for a term used in that email's subject and see it.  In the upper right, it is listed under "All Mail".  I click "All Mail" from the upper right and it appears to be under the general Inbox (but nothing is highlighted in the left pane at this point).  But once I click the general Inbox, it is not there.
Does anyone know what is going on with this email and why I cannot see it under the general Inbox?

Figured this out.  The email was in the Junk folder.
