All media on iPhone gone and iTunes does not remember my phone
Reposting from the iPhone board:
iTunes thinks my iPhone 4s is a new phone and is asking me to set it up again when in actuality it has been synced with iTunes since the 14th. Moreover, all the music, podcasts, and video have disappeared from the phone. I am running OS X 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.5.
I recently set up a second iTunes library, and switched back to my original using the click+option method.
Other than that, I can't think of anything that has changed.
Has anyone else seen this?
Is there a work around?
UPDATE: So I ended up restoring the phone and starting over as if it were new... by that I mean I did not restore from a saved file.
IT DID IT AGAIN!!! This past friday, I went to sync the phone, and it happened again.
iTunes thinks it is a new phone and wants me to set it up again!!!!
For some reason I have no option to restore from a saved image this time either.
Is this a defective phone?
Are other people running Snow Lepoard having issues?
So I removed and reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service and reinstalled iTunes in a rueful atempt to make it better.
I can't have this happen again... I lost a lot of data - not to mention the time it takes to set up all the app's, folders and settings...

NVM... broke down and called Apple Care. Pressed on/off button and held it for a few minutes before pressing home button. In recovery mode, but at least it is doing something now!

Hi. Last night I left it updating 5.1.1 from 5.1 when I was going to bed. And at night I heard usb noise and woke up. iTunes had an error, I did not remember what is written there because I was sleepy. I think it was like 1612 error but I'm not sure. There were an itunes logo and an usb wire on the phones screen. And I cant get rid of it. iTunes does not recognize the phone in "DFU mode" too. I need the phone today and I dont know what to do. Please help me. Sorry if my english is bad.

This program got me out from the loop. I dont know sharing it here is legal or not. But it is the solution for this problem. However I'm still wondering why I faced a problem like that. Is an update is that hard? -
I dropped my iphone 4 pretty hard, it cracked (although it already had a few cracks in it) and now the screen is black but sometimes has a background light turn on and then off. Holding the home button and off button at the same time do not work. When I plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not seem to recognize it. It gets really really hot when plugged in (which I don't think is normal). icloud does not recognize it under "find my iphone" either. What could the problem be? I am wondering if dropping it dislodged something inside. if so, what did I dislodge and is it possible to fix this myself?
ThanksSounds like that drop was a critical one, my friend. I would make an appointment at your nearest Apple Retail Store, because you're going to need a replacement. Also as a side note: the reason that the charger is making the phone vibrate over and over is because there is a disconnect somewhere in the charge port of the phone, causing it to plug in and out over and over.

i updated to ios 5.1.1 and added icloud services. the problem is now whenever i connect my iphone to my PC, itunes does not recognize my phone. i need it to but it just does not connect..
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. Yu can make an appointment at the the Genius Bar of an Apple store or try:

I just downloaded iTunes 9 and i do not want to upgrade any further, so when i plug in my iPhone iPhoto recognizes it as a iPhone/camera but iTunes does not recognize it. any help would be appreciated.

So i tried downloading ios8 and my phone is stuck in recovery mode. i have tried to restore it in itunes and it continues to say itunes does not recognize my phone. i have all my systems up to date and i have tried restarting my computer. help
Me too and I have 4 devices which are now not recognized by iTunes but were immediately before ios8 upgrade

Problem - I input a new event into my iPhone calendar and it does not update on my iMac or iPad calendars. I have loaded the latest software on all devices and have switched over to iCloud. Suggestions?
On the iMac open System Prerferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Calendars then reselect then restart the iMac.
On the iPad, tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Calendars off then back on then reset the iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Hopefully the event synced over all the devices. -

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

I've done all of these, even trying a different USB port, and still, nothing. This is really confusing. Windows 8.1 said something to do with USB malfunction or something and nothing works. I need to restore my iPhone quickly and nothing has happened. My cable is not genuine Apple product. iTunes makes the noise that it makes when I connect the device, but it doesn't say 'iPhone is in recovery mode' or even say 'iPhone' in the corner. I am really fed up and would really appreciate a response.
