All music files vanish when battery runs out

I bought a 60GB iPod six weeks ago. I use it a lot and as expected have had to charge the battery a few times.
The last two times the battery has run out the clock resets to 1 January 2000 and all the music files disappear.
The music files are still there (I've loaded 45GB so far and the disk capacity shows this) but don't appear or become playable until I next synch with iTunes.
While this isn't a huge problem, it is very frustrating - the first time it happened I was a few days into a 2-week holiday and, not being able to take my PC with me, spent the rest of the trip without music.
Any advice, besides buying a laptop?
Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian,
Just curious - are you using iTunes 6? In any event, a Restore will probably correct the problem. BTW, I'm not an expert on batteries, but I think I've read that you shouldn't let it run completely out. Here's a bunch of links on the topic:

  • Macbook Air (11 inch) does NOT go in hibernation mode when battery runs out

    Hi,
I have a problem with my new Macbook Air. When the battery runs out to 0% it does NOT go into hibernation mode, it just turns itself off and all my data is lost. It never happened to my old 2008 Macbook Air!
I have all updates, the 1.4Ghz Macbook with 4GB RAM upgrade in case that matters. Hope anyone can help? Is there perhaps a setting where I can set at which Percentage (%) the Macbook should go into hibernation? Thanks in advance!

Noone knows a solution? I also still have problems with my Macbook not waking up properly (like everyone else). The main problem is, however, that it SHUTS down when the battery is empty and does not hibernate!
And I can't install the MacBook Air Late 2010 Software Update 2.0 - I always get this message: "MacBook Air (Late 2010) Software Update can’t be installed on this disc. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
    - The update also does not show up in Software Update, I had to download it manually!
And I believe its NOT because I have 10.6.6 because I have talked to others who have the same problem under 10.6.5!

  • My MB dies when battery runs out, instead of sleeping

    Hi
My AL MB 2.4 simply dies when the battery runs out, rather than going to sleep like all my other Apple notebooks. When I plug it in and hit the power button, a graduated progress bar appears at the bottom center of the screen - not something I have seen before.
    What can I do?

That's normal deep sleep. You are getting the progress bar because it has to restore the session. It isn't the same as shutting down.

  • Why has my MacBook Pro stopped saving state to disk when battery runs out?

In the past, when my battery was running low, I could carry on working safe in the knowledge that the system state would be saved just before the power completely failed. When power was restored, the saved state was restored and I could carry on.
Now it seems to just die and then I'm left to the mercy of any app-based autosave.
    What's changed?!!

Doubt your cpu needs any thermal grease... Upgraded my MBP (early 2010) to ML when it first came out, prior to this everything was working flawlessly and I mean one couldn't ask for anything more... After the upgrade it was total garbage with big time overheating, program crashes and a problem where it refused to come out of a deep sleep without a forced shutdown. One thing I never really looked into was how it affected the battery life but one can only assume it took a toll on it as well.
Needles to say I downgraded back to the originally installed OS X ASAP, thankfully we regained our original stability and sanity to boot with no ill affects on the battery. Have read countless posts about these problems and as of yet have not found a resolve to my issues, too gun shy after the experience to even think of giving it another whirl... Lost confident's in Apples ability to get it right as this was downright deplorable in my opinion.
Sorry if this wasn't much help but from reading your post you say "after upgrading" which sounds to me like all was fine prior to switching to ML, no point in tearing apart anything if that is not need.

  • All music files vanished / deleted !!!

I've been loading music onto my 5800 over the last few weeks, and suddenly its all vanished!! I had over 200 songs, each album in its own folder on the memory card E: and all thats left is the Nokia music content that was shipped witht the phone.
I used file manager appto look and even connected to my pc to browse E: but nothing - not a single folder left. Anyone else heard of this happening????????

Happened to me too.. But don't panic. Just perform a hard reset on your phone (after backing up your contacts onto your sim memory and backing up your imp. messages)..
    This is how it's done:
    1) Switch off your phone after all the backup mentioned above.
    2) Keeping the Green key, Red key and the Camera key pressed, switch on your phone, and keep the above buttons pressed together until the Nokia holding hands screen appears.
    3) You're done and now you'll have to set up your phone from the beginning. Check your music player. All your songs should be there. Worked for me.
    Hope this helps..

  • Date/time resets when battery runs out on E51

Any ideeas how to solve the problem?

There is a little auxilliary in the phone. This is the battery that keeps the clock going when the main battery is removed or flat.
Usually the date/time resets when there is a fault with this auxilliary battery. You can get it replaced at your nearest Nokia Care Point.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

When I run out of funds in my I-Tune account (I always redeem I-Tune $15 or $25 prepaid cards)  if additional music or apps are purchased, they are billed to my credit card.  Why?  Is there a way to prevent this?

    Roaminggnome:
I have just found a way to do exactly what I wanted to do!
I opened I-Tunes, then clicked on the "Account" link under the heading "Quick Links".
After entering my Account ID and Password, I got the "Account Information" window.
I then clicked on the Edit link at the end of the "Payment Information" line which listed my current credit card information.  This opened the "Edit Payment Information" window. On this screen, instead of selecting Visa, etc... I selected NONE and then clicked on DONE at the bottom of the screen.  Just like magic, my credit card information disappeared and was replaced by "No Creidt Card on File" which is exactly what I wanted.  FYI.

i can't run all the apps.. when i run it, it crashed out immediately

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Downloading/installing a new app
    - Restorng from bavkup
    - Restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Battery runs out very quicky in iOS 4.0.1

    Hello dear supporters.
i'm new here (thats my first messege :)) but i do know a thing or 2 about using the iphone.
(i support all day long in an israeli support forum.)
But I do have a problem:
I've updated to iOS 4.0.1 and since then, the battery runs out so quickly, even in stand by mode i lose about 20% in 3-4 hours.
when i serf on safari and app store, wifi or 3G, i lose like 15% in 30-60 minutes or so.
the same thing when i talk on the phone, listen to music, play games etc.
i've talked to some other guys, they were on 4.0.1 and they downgraded to 4.0 but they still have the same battery problems just like i have. the same problems.
in the other hand, guys who are on 4.0 and didn't update, don't suffer from any battery problems what so ever...
    my question is this:
is there any problem in 4.0.1 that leaves a "mark" on the iphone that makes the battery get a little bit hot and run out quickly?
    is there any good solution?
iphone 3GS's, some are jailbroken and some are not...

Me and my friend came to a conclusion and we think that there's a bug in 4.0.1 that makes the modem work 300% harder and therefor the battery runs out quickly, and as you know, modem cannot be downgraded, and yet there's no new modem. So every one who updated to 4.0.1 even for 1 minute is stuck right now with a modem that uses the battery in a bad way.
(maybe it's connected to the signal appearance update in 4.0.1...)
What do you all think people?

  • Find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access, find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access

I seem to have music files in various places on my laptop, on my husbands computer and our main imac.  What we want to do is put all music on imac so when each of us logs on we have the same files availabe in itunes, but we logon seperately so we can have different playlists and checked music. So here is what I want to do:
Find all music files on each computer seperately and put everything in one folder one each computer, so three folders total to start...
Move my husbands itunes library and my itunes library from each of our laptops to our main imac, making one huge itunes folder
I want to store our music on an external hard drive, which I have, so I have a full library for backup purposes.
I want all future music downloaded on any of our laptops to transfer to the main imac computer, again to keep one main library
I want all video, apps, books, etc on each laptop to be available in one file on my main imac also so we can all use them
So mainly I want to organize, organize, organize and put everything in one spot so things don't get all messed up and some items are only accessible to me some times and not my husband or vice versa.  We want to share everything we can so we don't have to pay twice. I have read many instuctions, but nothing seems to be helping me and was hoping someone could...
    Thanks, l

I am totally running into the same issue as well. On top of that, when syncing to my iPhone, it took some of the tracks from my iphone and recopied them to the iTunes library, as new files, so now I have a ton of duplicates, and tons of tracks that can't find the iTunes folder, so they have the little "!" next to them.
It would be really nice to have someone answer this question. I didn't think, moving my iTunes library to a bigger external hard drive would have caused all this madness

  • After a backup all music files are invisible and iTunes don't see anything

    Hi,
I got a very strange problem and I'm really lost.
I made a backup of my portable iTunes libray (using a 160 GB Maxtor one touch 4 mini usb) on another backup disk (750 GB Maxtor onetouch III firwire 800). I have my library on a external disk to safe disk space on my MacBook Pro disk. For the back up I use the software Personal Backu4 of Intego Software. The 160GB iTunes disk is Formatted als Mac OS Extended format.
Now all back up data that aren't music files (AAC or MP3 files) was correctly back up, but all music files was like deleted, all artist > album folders looks empty. But, cheking with the disk utility it looks that all files exist and the Used space (36.06 GB) looks correctly and the numbers of files too (some 5942 files). But all files are invisible, folders looks empty. Now is looks that all purchased and CD imported int my library didn't exist anymore: and this in BOTH disks, side by side is the same situation.
How I can come out from this situation, I really don't have any idea how to coming out fron this sad situation.
Hany help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK, here's what REALLY doesn't make sense.
After manually fixing a lost file, NOTHING in the XML changes. Not one single character changes in the XML file. I diff'd the whole file before and after - no difference. So, basically, it goes out and 'finds' it and updates something that we can't see to repair the connection, meanwhile we are left to think that this XML file has the library data in it.
Mind you, the media file(s) are present and accounted for in the file system - correct name and path and everything - before and after I go Locate the file when iTunes complains about it being missing..
iTunes is so overbloated, we can't even fix stuff when we see precisely how it is broken.
