All music gone from iPod & it won't synch

I updated my PC & 20 gig click wheel iPod to iTunes 5 & updater 2005-09-23. I got my iPod for my birthday in April and seem to remember updating the iPod software at least one other time with no trouble. But now my iPod won't synch. I ran restore (my only choice) and plugged it in to flash the firmware. Then I connected it to my computer to get my music back on it. I have quite a bit of music and it was taking a long time so I left my iPod connected to the computer and went to bed. The next morning the computer had the "update complete" message but the iPod had the "do not disconnect" message. I used the button on iTunes to eject my iPod. That made it disappear from the source list but did not make the "do not disconnect" message go away on the iPod. Even though the computer was going through the "updating x of xx" there is still no music on my iPod. So I plugged the iPod into my computer and the "do not disconnect" message came on the screen. However iTunes did not see the iPod. Then I ran the updater from the start menu and then tried to synch it with the same results as the first time. Any ideas?

It happens to me every time I get an iTunes/iPod updater. It all started when I copied a few new cds into iTunes yesterday, and got both iMac and iPod frozen when updating my iPod. AfterI failing to update a few times, I restored the iPod, got the 09/23 updater, and now it takes forever to copy songs from iTunes to iPod. Even worse, the whole process stops, and iTunes tells me it failed to write/read from the iPod hard disk. I restored once more, but nothing has changed. I am tempted to format the thing in the Disk Mode. Suggestions?

  • Please help! Restarted iTunes, all music gone and my backup won't work ...

    Hi,
    please can anybody help me...
I am using iTunes 5.0.1.4 on Windows XP with service pack 2.
Today I restarted iTunes and the library is empty. All music gone, all playlists gone.
I checked the FAQs and older articles and tried everything (reloading the itl file etc.), but nothing worked. Seems when restarting iTunes has overwritten the itl file with an empty one.
The iTunes Folder is still there with all MP3s still in it. So I could just let iTunes read the folder and by this rebuild the library.
But what about the playlists? I had almost a hundred different playlists, and now they are all gone.
I exported the library to an XML file a few weeks ago and made a backup copy of this. Now tried to import it again. iTunes did so, but it just added the names of the playlists to its list - however, they are all empty!
What am I doing wrong? And how can I get the playlists back?
Many thanks in advance for any hints!
    Frank

Make sure your importing the XML file correctly.
Close iTUnes, goto My Music>iTunes folder and delete BOTH the xml and itl file.
Now open iTUnes and import the backup XML file you have by going to File>import and selecting the XML file from backup

  • All music missing from ipod... Pls help!

    Hi,
So i listened to my ipod on the way to work, connected it via UBS to my laptop for charging as normal. On the way home.. NO MUSIC!!!
When I connect to itunes now, itunes say it can't recognise the ipod and tells me to restore factory settings.
I have less than a third of what was on my ipod in my itunes because they changed my hardrive months ago and didn't back up my music so it was lost from itunes.
my Ipod settings say I have Capacity 27.8Gb and Available 16.8GB. So this tells me that my music is still in my ipod.. but I can't see it and all menus say there is nothing in there!! I'm going mad. I had over 3000 songs and it'll be a nightmare to upload all my cd's again which is why i don't want to restore the factory settings.
Anyone else had this problem and managed to get their music back???
Please say yes and let me know how I can resolve this.
    Many thanks,
    D

Before you restore, try recovering your music by following the suggestions here.

  • All music gone from iTunes and when trying to put it back, "Attempting to copy to the disk Macintosh HD failed. The disk could not be read or written to."

    Hello,
I have a portable 500gb HD and I use it to put music and other stuff.
Earlier, out of the blue, all of my music from iTunes disappeared, and I tried to put it back by dragging my folder "music" from the external HD to iTunes, but the message "Attempting to copy to the disk Macintosh HD failed. The disk could not be read or written to." appears and nothing happens. Only 40 albums (the same ones every time) go into iTunes before the message appear.
I tried restarting the computer and nothing happened.

This sounds more like a hardware issue, possibly a failing drive if you had mysteriously vanishing files and there are problems writing to your drive..  You could get better support on a forum for your Mac model or at lest one for your operating system version.  Have you verified the disk with Disk Utility to see what it reports?

  • All music removed from iPod, Music will not Sync, iTunes freezes

So I was syncing some new songs to my iPod, the sync went through alright, then I go to listen to my iPod to see that there are no songs on it, so I just kind of wave it off and go back to sync everything back on my iPod, only to have it freeze my iTunes. When I unplug the iPod, iTunes tells me it can't read the contents of my ipod and to restore it.
I have tried the following troubleshooting techniques.
    A. Reinstall iTunes.
    B. Reset iTunes driver. (By this I mean Restart "iPod Service"
    C. "Format" iPod driver.
    D. Check for updates
    None have helped.
What should I do? My warranty is not covered but I seriously am not considering getting a repair for the cost offered.

If that doesn't work then try restoring the ipod from itunes.

  • All music gone from iPhone

    Posting this for a friend:
My friend used to sync/backup her iPhone on a work PC.  She now longer works there and has no access to this computer.
She has bought a MacBook and plugged in her phone to sync it and it wiped everything.
    How hosed is she?
Is it possible to somehow recover the music? Or is it totally and utterly gone?
    Ta.
    Ant.

She is going to have to contact iTunes support, explain the situation, and request that they add the lost iTunes content to her iTunes download queue. Tell her to make sure her computer is authorized: iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer.
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
If she were in the US, she could simply re-download her purchased content to her new computer. It's a new feature of iTunes/iCloud, but only live in the US right now. Will go live for everyone else this fall.

  • Not all music appears in ipod even though memory used and in i-tunes

How come all my latest music doesn't appear in my ipod. My itunes memory for all music and my ipod memory for music is both about same amount (4.7 gb) and i have no other downloads. It doesnt matter if I resync. I don't wont to have to reset the ipod and resync from scratch again.

When you plug your ipod in a summary screen comes up in itunes for your ipod. Click on the music tab at the top of the summary screen, that is where itunes gets its information on what to sync or not to sync. What are the settings there set to?

  • All music in itunes ipod says no content and will not sync music

all music in itunes ipod says no content and will not sync music

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

  • How do u clear all music off ur ipod without losing it on itunes??

im not sure how 2 clear all music off mi ipod video without losing it off itunes??

Thanks for the clarification. Since I have the ipod
nano and there is no update for that at this time,
there is no reason for me to run the ipod updater.
Well, no, not unless you want to erase the iPod.
But - in the event that I do need to run a new ipod
updater in the future, what's the deal with having to
buy an AC adapter just to update the software? Is
this true? You said “maybe” I need one, which means
I won't know until I start the process of updating
the ipod, that I "might" need to buy an AC adapter?
Is this correct for the nano? Because it did not
come with a AC adapter. What am I suppose to do?
Leave the ipod connected for a few days while I go
out an buy a AC adapter to finish the update? Can
you be more specific? Is an AC adapter needed for
the ipod nano when updating the ipod software?
The Nano is a USB powered device. In order to update or restore it, you will need either an AC adapter or a USB 2 capable computer (USB 1 is not good enough). Basically the device needs a higher power input than usual for this sort of thing, so that it can update its flash memory without risk of damage due to power loss. Thus it requires power input when this is occuring. The AC Adapter is a sure fire way, a USB 2 port is almost as good.

  • Music Plays on iPod Touch won't update to iTunes 10.5

number of music plays on ipod touch won't update to itunes 10.5

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to this problem; however, I am experiencing the same thing. However, my iPod Touch is new. It will not play any of the DRM-protected content that I purchased previously; however, it will allow me to purchase content with my Apple account, so it is certainly "authorized," as it were. I guess I will try to reset it, but I doubt it will work.
