All music is gone but "other" space is full

My iPod was messing up so I reset it.
I went home and reset it (holding down the center button and menu button) while it was plugged in (mistake) and after that all my music was gone. However, when I go to memory, there's still 113 gb of "other" space taken up. This is a 120 gb ipod classic.
Is there any hope of recovering my music or do I have to restore?

Could you explain in more detail what exactly is your situation? Do you mean that the "Purchased Items" playlist is missing from iTunes? Or that the tracks you purchased aren't shown in the iTunes Library any more? Or do you mean something else? If you'll provide a more precise description of what's going on, perhaps we can offer suggestions.

  • Lost all music on ipod but the space is still being used

I have seen this posted already and i apologize for a repeat. Those posts didnt have any useful info though.
    My problem:
I am in France staying at a friends house. I brought my new 60 gig ipod video with me and was charging it on his laptop. I believe what happend was his laptop fell asleep while my ipod was still plugged in. I disconnected my ipod and went to listen to a song and all of my music and video files were gone. My photos are still there. I checked the about menu in the settings are and it says i have 40 Gigs available space. This means the videos and music are still using space. Does anyone know how to get them out of hiding? I really need the help and id like to be able to have my music for the 10 hour plane ride home!
    thanks everyone!

    Try resetting your iPod...
    Reset iPod
If that doesn't work, try restoring your iPod (if you have the music on a computer with you)...
    Restore iPod
And then put the music/videos back on
If you don't have the computer with the music on it, try downloading YamiPod...

  • My music is gone, but the GBs are still used...help please!

Hello...ive searched for the answer without any luck. Please help me, i've got a 60GB 4G Photo iPod.
Yesterday i selected a song to play, and it froze. I reset (select+menu) went to the same song...same results. Reset again, but this time all the music was gone! I've reset it again since, but my music (and personalized settings) still have not returned.
I've used iTunes hoping that the reconnect would help, but iTunes requested that i name my ipod, starting all over! My 50GB of music is still being reported leaving me under 10GB of free space.
I've run the iPod update, still no luck.
Is there a solution that will allow me to get my stuff back? Any help is greatly appreciated.
It was purchased in Sept 05, still has some time left under warranty.

    No.
But you can do it this way.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Uncheck Copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library.
Insert the DVD and in iTunes Add folder to library, select the DVD.
Leave the DVD in, connect the iPod and update it. Make sure it is on Manual update.
After you remove the DVD and restart iTunes, there will be an exclamation mark in front of the songs it cannot find (from the DVD.

  • Bug: All music disappeared (gone) after app crash

I had 3000+ songs in my music collection.  I was in the Alarm app and the alarm sound option.  I selected a sound/song from my music collection (heard the sample music).  Then I changed my mind and selected a different song.  The Alarm App froze.  I pressed the home button, restarted the Alarm app and tried again.  This time, there was no music to select.  I exited the alarm app and clicked on my Music app.  All music gone.  Went to Settings, General, About...the Song count = 0.
I don't know whether this is a hardware or software problem, but the fact that something so basic is even possible, is quite worrying.  Anyone else had similar strange experiences?

    Me too!
As a brand new iPod user, I have to say, I'm not impressed. Most of my library was ripped from original CDs. I hope they can be found on my system somewhere and fixed. And fast!
I am travelling overseas for three months tomorrow and now can't take my tunes with me.
    Not good.

  • My music is gone, but iTunes says it's still there?

I went to manually sync a few songs on my iPod (as per usual). I was having trouble syncing the last song and as I looked through my iPod, most of my music is now gone, all of my playlists are gone. However, when it is plugged in, all of the music and playlists show up until my iPod in iTunes. Does anyone know how I can recover this? I would just wipe it and resync everything but my music is stored on multiple devices and it will take forever. Anyone know the solution or what in the world happened here??

If the music doesn't play on the iPod then it is lost from the iPod then yo willhave to resync it to the iPod.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Updated itunes today now all music is gone, completely gone

Please help. My daughter and I have been purchasing songs from the i tunes store for years and this morning when we updated it it now says welcome... and all the music is gone, completely gone. I have tried to go back to a previous library but they are very small files. We had GIGS of music! Where did it all go and why does i tunes do this??? My daughter synced her iPod yesterday but with only a couple play lists not the whole library now our years of adding and sorting songs are gone!

The first thing to try is this:
    No content after updating
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967?viewlocale=en_US
If that doesn't work, where do you keep your music files? Is it in the standard location which is the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder, or somewhere else such as an external drive?
You need to check in your music folder to see if your music files are still there. They almost always will be.

  • I was changing album art on my ipod touch 4th gen with a different laptop then all my music disappeared (the titles are still there but the music is gone and the space is empty) i recently updated to ios 6 and the laptop im using just got itunes on it

i chose not to sync my ipod for fear i would lose all my songs because the new laptop had no songs. ni chose to manage files manually, and after around 3 chages my ipod only read my purchased songs. so i unplugged my ipod and pluggd it back in. the laptop said i had all of my music in my ipod. after this the titles appeared but they were that light gray color and i couldnt play them. what happened???

That suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • I got a new computer today and all of my music is gone but it's still on my ipod, how can I get it all on my computer?

I got my new laptop today and my music is missing though it's still on my ipod. How do I get it all back on m computer?

The iPhone is not a backup device. Did you not back up your computer?
If the music was purchased from the iTunes store, you can re-download it without charge. Otherwise, you will need to invest in 3rd party software to try and extract it from the phone.

  • I have an iPod touch and none of the music shows up on my iPod but does on computer after synching. Never did this before. All music appears gone. Can u help?

My iPod touch will not show any of the music after synching to computer. The music only shows in iTunes Store. Never happened before. Can you help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I accidently synced my ipod to itunes and all musics are gone

I recently used other program called copytrans manager to transfer musics to my ipod
and yesterday I don't know why I did it, but I hit the backup button, assuming that will save my musics files too,
and hit the sync! but I felt weird so I canceled the sessions as soon as the syncing process was ongoing.
However, after that, I clicked music file on my ipod to listen to music and
musics kept skipping to the next one and finally all of them are gone and I only have
2 musics which I purchased in itunes store. and in my playlists, sopt mark in the circle was shown right next to the title of the music.
my ipod is 5th generation and I was about to update mine to 7.02, I think? and I am using the latest itunes.
I used to have about 900 songs in my ipod and my itunes has only 400 out of 900. so....
Is there any way that I can recover my ipod? like is there any time machine?
please help me please!! I am desperate now!!!

Thank you for all the supports and answers.
But I have a new problem here.
I connected my ipod to my mac and turned on the itunes.
And I still haven't done anything to my ipod. (haven't re-synced or tried to fix my problem. my situation is same as my original post says,)
I clicked 'my ipod's music'section on itunes' sidebar.
And surprisingly, all my old music are still there, but with some greyed titles.
What do i have to do? I don't want my situation to get any worse.
What is needed if I want my musics back?
    Help me please!

  • Music is gone but info is still in itunes

Itunes shows all the artist and albums but the music has disapeared.
It says the files are in the trash. I don't see them there.
I do use time machine but as far back as I can go the music>itunes music>artist
are all the same. The actual audio files are gone. It was all there before now it's just
gone. They obviously made there way into the trash. How do I recover them from time machine?

eventually I got there by using File / Add Folder to Library for each folder, one at a time. Painful

  • Got iTunes match, synced up music from laptop to phone, headed out listening to playlist, all of a sudden, mid-song, music stopped and all music was gone and needed to be re-downloaded

Ok, so I initially bought the cloud mainly in the hopes that I could store all of my music on it and have access to it on my phone, which ended up not being the case. Fine. So I man up and get iTunes match, sync everything up between my laptop and my phone, make a playlist and head out listening to it. All of a sudden while I'm out, mid-song, the music stops. I go to see what's going on and everything is gone and has the icon to download next to it, and now I'm away from my wifi to boot, so charges apply. I don't understand. Now I have iCloud on my phone with 25 GB Total Storage and 25 GB Available because I don't understand what I should be using it for and iTunes match which, what, only works when I'm within spitting distance of my laptop? I've tried to get everything sorted out, paying a fee each time, and hitting roadblocks every step of the way; and on top of it, my phone is constantly telling me it can't do this or that because I don't have enough storage?? I realize I'm a bit of a noob, but c'mon, it shouldn't be this complicated or difficult, should it?

If you have no network access (3G, Wi Fi) you cannot stream music from the cloud. Period. The way you stop the behavior is to enable 3G, or pre-download the tracks you think you will want to listen to.

  • Updated ipod touch, all music is gone now....

I just updated my ipod touch to the latest software.. 2.something. After it was done updating, all the music and filed on it are now gone... a lot of them were purchased on the ipod music store and when i plugged my ipod into my computer, it didnt sync them over like it is supposed to.. where are my music.. there are probably 100$ worth of songs on my ipod that were purchased from the built-in itunes that i cant just put back on....

I have just purchased an ipod touch on Saturday and went home and synced it with my itunes library. After syncing I also got a message about a software update 2.1 (I believe) for $9.95, after it was done installing I disconnected and packed it up. I work on the road so I got up on Sunday and left for Iowa. Sunday evening I turned my on ipod touch and there was nothing on it. I will not be home till Friday so I am gonna drive myself nuts wondering what happened but from what I have read in the other posting is that if I go home and plug in my ipod then it will sync all my songs in my itunes library? I had not purchased anything on my ipod touch yet. I also did not pay attention to anything about backing up or resyncing after update. I guess dumb on my part for not reading it better. Sorry to the other guys for losing songs after their update. I guess I can be thankful that I had not purchased anything yet.

  • HELP NEEDED! 80Gb Classic , all Music is gone!

Hi everybody, I'm desperately looking for help.
Some days ago I was using iTunes, as always. Then I ejected my iPod...everything as usual, except that the Apple logo appeared on my iPod...after several seconds, it comes out the language selection menu, and then I noticed that all the music, 7999 tracks, were gone!
Now the iPod isn't recognized by iTunes, and Windows Vista sees it, but tells me that it needs to be formatted in order to be used. My iPod wasn't synchronized with the iTunes Library, I used to add songs manually. Unfortunately, my external HD, where I kept all my stuff, including songs, is broken too!
What should I do in order to have all my songs back?

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sounds like the iPod's library is damaged and so it needs to restored. If the media files are still present on the drive then the following may help.
    *Recover media from iPod*
See this post from Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7217190#7217190
Some of the tools linked to will only work if the iPod has a valid library. Others can scan the drive independently and some may even be able to rebuild a damaged library. The manual method towards the end should be able to recover your media regardless of the state of the library.
If the files system itself appears empty on the drive then you may just get luck with a drive undelete tool. There are free ones out there but it is ages since I had a use for one as I maintain decent backups.
