All music went ghost on iPhone after I did a backup?

okay, so this is really strange. I plugged my iphone in earlier this evening, wanting to sync an album on it from itunes. I noticed that itunes was showing my iphone as "13.55GB Over-Capacity", but when I went to check my iphone in its settings, it said I had quite a bit of space left. this is a 64gb iphone 4S running on the latest iOS and itunes 12.0.1 on Windows.
basically, when I went to upload the album to the iphone, it gave me the dotted grey circle thing beside each song as seen under the iphone's music in itunes. *eye-roll*. I did all the usual stuff to try and correct that, but nothing worked. finally, a bout of paranoia hit me and I just decided to do a back-up of my iphone. when it finished, I tried again, still nothing. then I just decided to have a look at my phone's music and when I did, I noticed that every playlist was still there, but just underneath the titles it says "no songs". after further investigation, I checked under Songs and saw that only about half of my music library was even there, and EVERY song appeared as if it were undownloaded, or in the cloud or something. I don't even use the cloud. each song is faded out and has a red circle next to it with the red square in the middle, as if I have to download each one individually. I am so confused as to how this happened and all I want to do is restore my music back to normal. I would prefer NOT trying to "restore from backup" because again, 64gb, its a lot of apps and a lot of data and I reaaaaalllyyyy don't want to see a ton of stuff go missing or go wrong. that would irritate me to no end. please help, I'm truly at a loss.
ALSO, in itunes, under my iphone music, it shows every song, every playlist with all songs and everything looks totally normal.
HELP.
and yes, I tried turning it off and turning it back on again.

Many users are suffering from the iTunes 12 music syncing problems.
1.Make sure that you don't have iTunes Match enabled in Settings > Music.
2 Plug in your iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 8 or higher and launch iTunes.
3 Click your device icon at the top of the iTunes window.
4 Select Music in the side navigation panel.
5 Uncheck Sync Music option in the right panel and then click Apply or Sync.
6 Once the sync is complete, recheck the box for Sync Music and hit Apply or Sync again.
7 Unplug your iPhone or iPad and see if your music is back.

  • How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?

How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?  I can sync with iTunes but it doesn't copy these songs back, even though they still appear in my iTunes library.  I can click on the Music link  under 'On My Device' in iTunes and the missing songs all appear to still be on the device, but they are not.  I normally delete using iTunes and do not have this issue.  This time I was out and needed more space to shoot photos and videos so I removed a lot of music from my phone through the Music App.

The songs I'm trying to reload on my phone are on my PC.  These we had loaded into iTunes.  I can remove them all from the library and then add them all back one by one I imagine.  The problem I'm having is that I removed them manually from the phone, they still appear in iTunes music library yet they won't sync.  I don't want to take the time to compare the phone to my library, remove from the library what's missing on the phone and then add them all back again.  64GB (mostly music) will take a while.

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

    Connect phone to computer.
    Select Restore.
Tell iTunes which of the available backup files to use, let iTunes restore it.
Also, try reading the User's Guide as it answers questions like this.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

  • How can I delete all music files from my iPhone and start again?

I rebuilt my iTunes library. I was under the impression that the first post-rebuild sync would erase all media from my iPhone.
Under the Summary tab in iTunes, I checked Sync only checked songs and videos, and in my music list all songs are unchecked.
Under the Music tab in iTunes, I checked Sync Music, and because all my songs are unchecked it shows 0 songs.
However, after syncing, the status bar at the bottom of the Music tab still shows all my songs previously loaded as taking up memory, and when I open the Music app on my iPhone all those songs are still listed (although they are not playable).
How can I clear everything out and start from scratch?

  • ICloud icon next to ALL my songs on my iPhone after restoring from backup on iTunes

i recently just had my iPhone back after having it repaired. I made a backup on my Mac before sending it away. Now after waiting for it to restore itself and even watch it download all 1800 songs, none of them will play unless i download them from iCloud. I dont understand why as it's never done this with my music before. I dont have iTunes Match and i dont recall ever storing any of my music to the cloud - just my mac. I am not really prepared to go through my entire list of songs and download them separately, so any suggestions as to why it's suddenly decided to do this and how to sort it? everything else from the back up is working fine and is the same as before. thanks!

    Hi BeeRai,
If your music is not showing up locally on your iPhone, even if you do not have iTunes Match, you may want to try turning of the iTunes in the Cloud settings as described on the following page, then resyncing if necessary:
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
Remove iPhone from your list of “iTunes in the Cloud” devices. In iTunes on your computer, choose Store > View Account. Sign in, then click Manage Devices in the “iTunes in the Cloud” section.

  • My originsl itunes library disappeared and I only have recently purchased music, but all music is in my iphone 5 can I put this music into library and or ipod from my iphone

I lost my original itunes library today when I got new computer, I'm sure I did it in error, but the question is all my music is still on iphone 5 can I load this music back to my library or my ipod from the iphone?  Right now my libray only shows 7 songs I purchased today. Thanks for any assistance.

    Hello gadawgirl21,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Transferring purchases
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod has your purchased content from the iTunes Store, you can transfer the content to a computer that is authorized for your Apple ID.
Note: This option only works for content you purchased from the iTunes Store (as opposed to content from other sources, such as CDs you may have imported). For content you did not purchase from the iTunes Store, synchronization occurs in one direction only. This means your content can be copied from a computer to your iOS device, but cannot be copied from your device to a computer.
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
Enter your Apple ID and password. Then, click the Authorize button.
Connect your device your computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, you may be asked if you want to "Erase and Sync" or "Transfer Purchases."
If that alert appears, click Transfer Purchases.
Important: Clicking Erase and Sync will delete any existing content currently on your device. The content would then be replaced with the content that is on the computer.
If you were not offered the option to transfer purchases:
After connecting your device to the computer, its icon appears in iTunes. Click the icon.
From the File > Devices menu, choose "Transfer Purchases from 'Your device name.'"
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Show all music not working on iPhone 6

HHelping a family member set up their new iPhone 6. Email, iCloud, iTunes all set up with an apple id but toggling "show all music" in settings>music has no effect nor does settings>iTunes and App Store show all music toggle. Went into iTunes store on the iPhone and it shows 109 purchases of songs "not on this iPhone" but they won't show up in the music app.
    tried:
    resetting
    hard resetting
toggling the settings mentioned above on and off repeatedly
signing in and out of iCloud on divice
signing in and out of iTunes and App Store on device
what am I missing here? On my 5s when I toggle settings>music>show all music the albums not on my Phone instantly appear and disappear.
many thanks for any help or advice

Hi Gail thanks for your quick reply. When I go into the itunes store under the Apple ID in question it shows 109 purchased songs. These are the songs I'm expecting to see when I toggle "show all music" but nothing appears.
edit: I tried logging into my Apple ID on his phone, all of my purchases showed up immediately in his music as being in the cloud. Could it be some issue with his Apple ID? It's verified on the phone and seems to be working for everything else.

  • HT1386 why all music wont sync on iPhone 5

Why the Iphone 5 won't sync all music and why do i have a large strage for other?

If you want all the songs from an artist on your phone you can to to the artist view, tap on the artist, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a Download All button.  This works for playlists and albums too (scroll to the bottom and tap the Download All button).  I suppose if you wanted all your music on your phone you could create a smart playlist in iTunes on your computer that would contain all your music, upload it to iTunes match (Store>Update iTunes Match), and then you would get a Download All button at the bottom of this playlist on your phone to download all your songs.

  • Got iCloud - All music went to iCloud (I guess) - now none ON iPod - can only listen while on Wi-Fi?

I've had tPod touch for a frustrating 2 years. it Was getting filled (32GB) with music, lots of it was duplicate songs that appeared somehow.  When I bought sub. to iCloud last week, it immediately to all music there, and off hard drive.  I wanted to store some there, but I also wanted to keep some on ipod to listen  to when workng - or any other time i have NO WI-FI ACCESS. Now ipod is rendered totally worthless to me as "portable" music player. How can I get music back, and maybe have a say in what I keep on ipod, and what I store in Cloud?

  • Only a few of my music files on my iPhone after syncing

I have my entire iTunes library on an external hard drive. After my PC kicked the bucket last week I purchased a new Mac Book Pro and uploaded my entire music library from the external hard drive. The music made it onto my computer just fine and is sitting in my Library on iTunes but for some reason every time I sync it I only end up with about 5 of my files (16 gba in all) on my iPhone.
I just don't understand what could be causing this. My external hard drive is no longer connected to my Mac and yet I can still see and play all of my music in my Library. I have made sure to click the little button saying that I want to sync my music etc. but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Match needs wifi if you are not using cellular data. You can pre-download whilst you have a wifi. Previously streamed tracks are kept in a cache.

  • Music not working on iPhone after iOS 5 upgrade

    Hi all,
Apparently I spoke too soon- To review, ever since I upgraded to iOS 5, the iPod functionality of my iPhone (ie all of my music) doesn't function.  It worked for the first day or so, then when I tried to start the app, it would present with a blank white screen for about 10 seconds, then just quit.  I've restarted, reset, and restored, and the only thing that helped was restoring (I've restored about 4 times now).  It would then work for about a day, then not work again.  I eventually got tired of restoring, and just 'unsynced' my music, then resynced again.  That would again work for about a day, then I'd have to repeat that process.  Now, not even resyncing my music works.
Otherwise the phone seems to be working well- no other app issues or usage issues.  I'd occasionally get an error (-34) or (-50) while syncing, but I'd just 'eject' the phone, and reattach and it would sync.
I'm using iCloud for backup, and I'm syncing wirelessly, unless I restore or unsync my music, at which time I'll hook it directly to the computer.
    Any suggestions?
    John

Sorry, but no suggestions....I have the same problem I think... my music app just goes to a white screen then back to the home page.  if i search for a song it will find it, but when i try to play it, i get a black scrren, then just back to home page.  the app has worked a lot, but this has happened a few times prior and has resolved itself (not sure how), but now i can't get my music to work at all.  video, everything else works...this is on iphone4s with ios 5.0.1.  there's a definite bug here and hopefully enough people will complain about it to get apple to fix it!  I get the feeling it has something to do with a large music library (I have 46GB) and large/complex playlists.  I also seem to have a syncing problem in that music rating changes made on iphone don't get syncd back to by windows pc library.  I noticed this just before the music app stopped working completely.   Apple.. please help!
