All my bookmarks disappeared. There at 2:00pm; gone at 5:00pm.

After having problem with IE, it was suggested I download Firefox. I did this today (Firefox 5 for Yahoo). I was very satisfied with what I was seeing and experiencing. I logged off and on several times since then without a problem.
But this last time I logged on, all my bookmarks (Yahoo) had disappeared. It says simply "This Folder is Empty". To recreate this would be a disaster.

See [[lost bookmarks]] for details of how to recover them.
There may be a problem with the file that stores bookmarks, in which case this link will help re-create the file and import the bookmarks from a backup - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

  • I synced my data and all my bookmarks disappeared is there a way to undo the sync and get them back?

I believed that my laptop and desktop were set up to sync my laptop's data to my desktop. The desktop had no bookmarks on it, when I hit the sync button on my laptop all my bookmarks disappeared. It appears that the desktop replaced the laptop's data instead...
Is there a way to get them back?

Restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder that still has them.

  • All the bookmarks disappeared

All the bookmarks disappeared from Firefox 3.6.13
I browsed through all the articles in support about this, and tried the backup, but it didn't bring solution. I also checked the backup files in notepad, and all the older ones (except the today's) have the bookmarks, but still the restoration doesn't work!
Firefox haven't created an alternative profile, I have only one in
    \Documents and Settings\[my name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Actually, the problem is still there. A can see all my bookmarks in the roll down menu if I click on bookmarks in the menu bar, but they're not there in the bookmark window (that appears if you click on the bookmark icon in the menu bar) , and I can't find them either in the manage bookmarks panel.
    Please help!
    Thank you!
    Gabor
Ps.: if I repeat the restore function in manage bookmarks panel, then the bookmarks appear on the side Bookmark column, but they are doubled in the roll down menu! :-(((

  • I had a crash of the mac 10.4.11 after I restarted my comp the google toolbar vanished and i can not get it back it does not install ((( all my bookmarks are there

I had a google toolbar on my 3.6 firefox for at least one year . After my Mac crashed and I restarted everything it vanished and i can not get it back I tried to reinstall it does not work and when i go to add ons it tells me it is not available for 3.6 Firefox All my bookmarks re there (((

Yup, your question and Diane's answer helped me also. Tho' I had had problems before getting into the iTunes store I always managed to find a way. Today they had me blocked cold with the "Update to 10" advert no matter what I did. Other questioners are being told, incorrectly as it turns out, that they have to update their OS to accomodate iTunes 10 and upgrade to iTunes 10. I did the download which did not take up much more room on my crowded old hard drive and now I'm back in business.

  • How can I click on a bookmark and have it open a new page? When I click a bookmark it always opens right in the sidebar, all my bookmarks disappear and I am left with two seperate pages?

I keep my bookmarks open at all times in the sidebar. If I want to go to a site, say Google, I must do a right click on the bookmark and then click on "Open In A New Tab" then the google page opens in a new tab.
I want to skip the second click. I want to be able to simply left click the google booknark in the sidebar and have google open in a new tab.
the way things are now, when I simply do a left click on the google bookmark the new google tab opens in tne sidebar itself. My bookmarks disappear from the sidebar and the google page is opened in the sidebar. So at this point I have two active page open at the same time.
Is there a way to simply left click the bookmark in the sidebar and have the bookmark open as a regular page?
Please pardon my clumsiness as I have only today used FireFox for the first time.

Opening in the Sidebar is the default action for bookmarks that are created via a "Bookmark this Page" link or button on a website. Make sure you use the many "Bookmark this Page" methods that are in Firefox instead.
Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

  • All iCloud bookmarks disappeared on all my devices

Recently I found out that all my favorites list on my PC disappeared. I didn't bother since they are fusion with my iCloud bookmark list and I thought it was a simple network failure. However, I noticed later that all my bookmarks on all my devices also disappeared. I haven't been able to find a back up to restore them, at least on one of my computers (Macbook Pro, Macbook Air (both on Yosemite), iPad, iPhone... ). I haven't been able to find a copy of the Bookmarks.plist on Time machine. How to recover them? Why did they get deleted?
    IOS 8.3, OSX Yosemite 10.10.2

Bookmark syncing is a little unpredictable at present.
You would be best exporting bookmarks to your desktop on your Mac, turning bookmark syncing on on all your devices and then deleting all your bookmarks from all your devices. Leave things alone for a while and later check that each device still has no bookmarks. Once satisfied that all your devices have no bookmarks, re-import the bookmarks on your Mac and allow them to sync with all your other devices.

  • I did a system retsore to 2 weeks ago. I have had firefox for 2 years on this computer. Now firefox will nolonger open. I know i can download it again - but will have lost all my bookmarks & is there a way to get it all back?

I did a system retsore to restore to a date 2 weeks ago. I have had firefox for 2 years on this computer. Since I did the restore firefox will nolonger open. I know i can download it again - but will have lost all my bookmarks etc. is there a way to get it all back?

Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) is an old version of Linux from 2009. You're gonna need to upgrade to a newer operating system to use a more recent version of Firefox.
My advice is to consult with the Ubuntu support forums to find out if your PC can support the latest version of Ubuntu, or if you should switch to a different "flavor" of Linux.

  • All my bookmarks disappeared , pls help?

My bookmarks disappeared , all it shows is
    APPLE
    YAHOO
    BING
    GOOGLE
    iPad user guide
    What can I do?

Strange indeed.  This may not help, but it won't hurt anything.... try a system cache clear....
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select

  • After upgrading Firefox all the icons of all my bookmarks disappear.

After upgrading next version of Firefox all my bookmarks have lost their icons. To restore an icon I have to click on that bookmark and load a web pade again. That brings back an icon.
But I have so many icons that I can't just go through all of them.
I appriciate any help on this matter.
    My regards,

    Hi alexeiuk,
There was an issue with Firefox 9 that caused this type of behavior. It has been fixed in Firefox 10 though. You might want to try the Firefox 9 version of [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#os=mac&browser=fx9 this article] to see if the steps work for you.
You could also try an add-on to customize your favicons:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/favicon-picker-2/
Cor-el offers some useful tips as well:
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Firefox sync stopped working for me after I reset the password for the Sync account,it's like all my bookmarks disappeared

I reinstalled my OS,and after resetting my sync password it seems that all my bookmarks, logins etc. are gone from my sync account. What use to take seconds (for my bookmarks to appear in my bookmarks tab) isn't working now after several hours of wait.Is there a way to get the data back, and now I didn't have another device paired :(

You should never reset the recovery key.<br />
Doing that will remove (reset) all data on the sync server because that key is used to encrypt the data locally before uploading it to the Sync server.<br />
Resetting or requesting a new password for your sync account shouldn't affect the data that is stored on the sync server, but resetting the sync key will.<br />
You should always backup your sync key to prevent such issues.

  • All my bookmarks and personalized start page are GONE. Where are they and how do I get them back?

I opened Firefox & was told it had automatically updated to 3.5 (yes that is what it said). ALL my bookmarks, my bookmarks toolbar and my other two toolbars are GONE, my personalized home page is GONE. How do I get them back? VERY frustrated with Firefox which has been crashing a LOT lately, and several other updates have taken away my personalized home page. Why can we not keep these even tho you update?? Loosing my bookmarks is NOT ok with me. My Xmarks and delicious are Missing... HELP!
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
== Firefox auto updated to version 3.5. It was ok yesterday

OK. It was Firefox 3.5.x that was on autoupdate (which I stopped now so I have to be asked before updating) on a Mac Book Pro (31/2
yr. old but updated with more Memory & larger hard drive (not sure I have that right, but now is 3GB Memory and 250GB hard drive Intel Core 2Duo). Using several places from the link cor-el (above) gave me, I finally found a copy of my bookmarks and have them back.
While trying to find my personalized homepage, I went to a google add-on for finance after adding several other items to a new inprogress homepage, and out of the blue, my old homepage shows up when I click on the google finance gadget! I could not believe it. And all my other stuff was on there. I immediatley saved it to my Bookmarks, to my idisk and remade it my homepage for igoogle.
Now, how do you explain that? Anyway, I am now back and good to go, just scared to update to the FF 3.6x version for fear of similar problem.
The only thing missing now is the 2nd toolbar that I don't remember what it was so guess I won't miss it. The other was the NPR one which I got back from NPR website.
    Thanks folks!

  • Today all my Bookmarks disapeared from Safari, when i checked my iphone they were there and then went away the same happened on my ipad. Any ideas on how to restore?

Today all my BookMarks disappeared in Safari, when I checked my iphone I watched them disappear from there and the same on my iPad. I then thought why not check my Parallels side and Windows Explorer. They were there for a few seconds and then also gone. Any ideas on how to restore and stop this from happening again? My iCloud setting are set for Safari sync.

Then you have misunderstood what iCloud is.
First. It is not a back-up service. It is a sync service.
That distinction is very import. A back-up service would have backed-up your bookmarks but iCloud's function is to synchronize your data, in this case your bookmarks, to all your devices. A backup service, by it's very nature, would allow you to roll back to a previous version of your data or file. No such roll back function is present in iCloud's services.
For example, if you add a bookmark to Safari on your Mac that same bookmark will be added to all your other devices that are connected to your iCloud account. Also, if you delete a bookmark it will be deleted from all those devices.
iCloud does not make a distinction between deleting one or all of your bookmarks and it will do the same to all your devices. It does not know that was not your intention. That is why it is very important to have Backups and Apple makes it very easy using Time Machine and a simple hard drive connected to a computer.
Let's see if your bookmarks have actually been deleted or if there is another problem.
Your bookmarks are stored in a .plist file the following directory, ~/library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
To get to that directory go to the Finder, select the Go to Folder… menu item in the Go menu and enter ~/library/Safari/ in the field provided. There you will find the Bookmarks.plist file.
Select it and hit the space bar on your keyboard to see a preview of the files content. Does it still contain references to your bookmarks? If it does still contain references to your bookmarks then something else is going on and we'll have to find a different solution.

  • My bookmarks and tabs disappeared. Tried to import them from bookmark list, now they are completely gone.

My issue began after I had a "Blue Screen of Death" on my laptop. Since then, all of my internet settings aren't correct and Firefox does not load for several minutes (longest was 30 min). All of my bookmarks and tabs were gone when I finally got Firefox to open. I just tried to (Ctrl + Shift + B), all my bookmarks were there, however when I tried to import them, nothing happened and they've disappeared.
Prior to Ctrl+Shift+B I had reloaded a previous version of Firefox. Yesterday I loaded the current version...still no help to my bookmarks/settings.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I just downloaded Firefox and it replaced Mozilla completely and I lost all my bookmarks. Anyway to get them back??? I wouldn't have upgraded if I knew this would happen.....

I upgraded from the old Mozilla browser to Firefox and all my bookmarks disappeared. Now what do I do? Also does Firefox have an email system? I'm using Mozilla but don't want to lose all my emails.....thanks

Do you mean you were using Mozilla Seamonkey - or something even older - sometimes called 'The Mozilla Suite'?
If it was SeaMonkey (or the old Suite) then the bookmarks may still be in your SeaMonkey profile:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_SeaMonkey
Firefox does not include an email client. You could use Mozilla Thunderbird
