All my contacts have turned to email accounts?

Hello, yesterday I bought an Iphone 4s, I was loving it until all my contacts had vanished and my contacts had been turned into email accounts, help would be appreciated! Thank you.

OK, there's a solution for Verizon users that involves having the carrier reprogram the phone. I've heard O2 users having this problem too but don't know if there's a solution. If try searching the forums and I think you will find some discussion threads on this.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

You will need to migrate each account seperately using the Move website, the alias will also be migrated to iCloud with whichever account it is under (the only problem with aliases, occurs when you have more than 3 in an account)
When you log into iCloud on the computer running Lion, iCloud will update your mail accounts for you, on the computers running Snow Leopard you will have to set up the mail accounts manually. Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

I have an iphone 3gs. I have 7 separate email accounts on the phone. Everytime I update, it reloads all of the emails as new unread emails. Is there any way to either delete all or alternatively stop it from reloading all prior emails?

Hello Kizzyk,
I would start with taking a look at the settings to make sure that you are able to send and receive messages. If everything looks good then the next step would be to remove the accounts and add them back in. Upgraded to v6 iphone software, all my contacts have gone, and I can't connect to my email. Other web pages seem ok. Help!

Can anyone help me? Since upgrading to v6 of the iphone software the other day, all my contacts have gone, and I can't connect to orange contacts restore to get them back, or access my email. Other web pages seem ok.
When I try to connect to the orange backup app, the connection just times out and says connection error. When I try to access my email it says verify i have put the correct a/c info into mail settings.
Both things were fine before I updated.

I am having the same problem. Have tried everything I can think of and have bee searcing the community for a solution without any luck. I think I am going to uninstall ios6 if I can figure that out and reinstall.

Only iCloud mail works with iCloud.
The syncing that occurs between a mail account on different devices, occurs because the account is an IMAP account. If you change or update your other accounts to IMAP accounts, they will behave the same way as your iCloud account.

I have an icloud email account that my spouse used and he is gone now, can I delete this one and use another or will this delete information?

I have an icloud email account that was set up by my spouse and I am trying to get rid of everything with him on it due to the nature of the split and want to make sure he can never access the childrens and my photots, music, etc.
In this I wanted to change the email address in icloud so that I no longer get his emails from his contacts, friends, etc. I made an alias but is there anyway to delete this icloud email address and use another or will this delete all of our data?

Deleting the account from the phone will do only that! it won't affect any other information on any other device.

Delete contacts from a deleted email account??? (sounds confusing I know)

This will require an explanation before I can get to my question so here I go. I have several email accounts that sync to my phone. I have now deleted one of my email accounts. The problem is that when I compose an email from any of the remaining email accounts still on my phone and start to type the name of the contact that I want to send the email to contacts from the deleted email account are still being displayed. I need to be able to remove the contacts from the deleted email account from my phone. These are contacts that are not part of my phone contacts. They are contacts that I have replied to from the deleted email account. If I have not clearly described my issue please let me know. Thanks for any suggestions anyone may have.

There is a system-wide email address cache. The only way to clear that cache is to perform a Restore via iTunes, and set your phone up as new (the list is backed up), meaning you'd need to reload all your content, redo your settings, etc.

Well with the contacts, if you had back up assistant or google back up then you may be able to retrieve them.If not then they are gone for good. Withe the message you ae getting about the space, since you cleared everything out and still get that message you might or actually need to do afactory reset thru settings. So make sure the apps you want are saved on your card or just do the reset and redownload the apps

All my contacts have the same birthday... how to remove them?

I have had this issue for a few years... in fact, since the very DAY I switched from Windows to MAC! All my contacts have that date entered as their birthday as well as their aniversary. Sounds funny perhaps but.... is not, really.
How can I just deletes all birthdays and anniversaries in bulk or (even better) only do that for those ocntacts that have that specific date entered as thier birthday/anniversary (as I do have some contacts with correcth birthday which Iñd love to conserve). Thanks.

Thanks Bro. I have backup. and I did the same thing twice but only 26 contacts appear on the device. Now again yesterday after your suggestion again I restored the device but the result was same. Then I thought a new thing. I restored the device one more time but after restoring I didn't configure the icloud account. Surprisingly all my old contacts are there in the device but those 26 contacts are not there. Now I will tell you how this must have happened? I had 3gs earlier. that was stolen 3 months ago. I put the device in lost mode. I purchased new iphone4. I restored with itune. All my data came back. After that I saved these 26 new contacts to my device which also saved in icloud but when I tried to backup on my pc it was not happening. the messege coming device disconnected. 2 days back my stolen device came online. Lost mode was activated by icloud. But what I think in between that time the other fellow must have deleted the phone contacts. And as per icloud also deleted the same. Only the 26 contacts which I saved in these 3 months remained in icloud. Now bro can u help me out? What I should do? I have 26 contacts in icloud and < 500 in my device. Not easily, no. There's no direct transfer option between POP and IMAP, especially across email providers. The best you could do would be to forward all of your emails to your new address, although it's not clear that you need to - dropping your sbcglobal.net account doesn't instantly render all your existing mail void - it'll still be in your Mail client, you can still read it, search it, etc., it just won't be on your provider's server.

MobileMe would be viable, especially if you're interested in synching your various iOS devices. It's not free, of course, unlike Yahoo and Gmail, although you've already discounted them...
I have also toyed with purchasing my own URL, but it's hard to tell from the sites (1and1, Namecheap, etc.) if they come with IMAP email accounts included.
Some registrars offer email hosting bundles with a domain registration. This could be a good way to go. GoDaddy, for example, have a email hosting option for domains you register with them.

If you can't then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the password and your questions reset.
