All my emails download in Mail as "flagged" already!

Hi Everyone!
Well, I have tried about all I can think of, and I have asked other Mac users, and now I am coming to this forum for some wisdom from other Mac sages and users.
I have this incredible annoyance which began with OS 10.5 and has continue in 10.6.
My Apple Mail app downloads my emails from Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live, and all the email that is downloaded, comes already with the red flag. They the red flag disappears when I read an email.
All I have to do is click on the email, and the red flag disappears.
Is their a way to change this? Is there a way that my emails download without being red flagged?
Your help would be appreciated.

Hey Sam,
I just had the same issue too. It has to do with the rules set in Mail.
If you go to preferences and then to the rules tab which is on the
extreme right. You will see a number of rules and checkboxes.
One of the rules forces Mail to flag all the emails you receive. It
is obviously one of the checked rules. So if you click on the rules,
and go to Edit, you will get an idea of what each individual rule does.
The rule which cause Mail to flag emails on my computer was called
Mail FX. I just unchecked it and disabled it. You can delete it but I too,
but I don't know if this will cause an issue. I prefer to be better safe than
sorry and unchecked it and its working fine now.

  • Email downloads in Mail on Leopard but not Tiger

I recently switched three email accounts to a new host with new POP and SMTP. On my work computer (which is running OS X 10.5.4) I have the accounts set up and they appear to work just fine. On my home computer (running OS X 10.4.11), I have the accounts set up, but only one of the accounts can send and receive email. Same POP and SMTP servers, same ports as the work computer, as near as I can tell everything is the same. Is there something I may be missing? I have set up many email accounts and this is the first time I've come across this weird thing. (I can access all my email through the mail server's webmail; I just can't download it to my computer.) Any ideas?

    That's OpenDNS' numbers...
    http://www.opendns.com/welcome/
Faster, safer, and more reliable than many IsP's DNS numbers.
The fact that it worked is proof that your ISP's DNS Servers are a bit flaky, or the Router/Mac weren't communicating properly.
    Great to hear though!

  • Is it possible to have 2 mail programmes on my macbook pro? one for business related emails and one personal. I dont want all the emails in one mail programme!

Is it possible to have 2 mail programmes on my macbook pro? one for business related emails and one personal. I dont want all the emails in one mail programme. At the moment i have 2 personal email address being sent to my mail but because of receiving huge numbers of work emails it would be good to keep them seperate, what is the best way of doing this?

if i use the one mail programme can it separate the incoming mail from the different email accounts into 2 folders without me having to do it manually?
Yes, you can.  Nearly all email software can do this.  It involves creating two folders and a Rule for each folder.
Maybe call one folder Personal Mail, the other Work Mail (Apple Mail calls folders Mailboxes).  One Rule would route all mail from your personal email account into the Personal Mail folder; the other Rule would route all mail from your work email account into the Work Mail folder.  It's actually easy to do, all you have to do is click a few things and the rule is set up.  Once the Rule is written you can also apply it to existing messages already downloaded to your Mac.
In Apple Mail, Rules are under Preferences > Rules.  Follow the prompts to create a rule like this:
    If = Any
Account = my Personal account (select the name of your personal email account)
Perform the following actions: Move Message to Mailbox = my Personal Mail (select the name of your Personal Mail folder (aka mailbox))
This rule says,  "take any message that comes in from my Personal Account and move it to my Personal Mail mailbox (folder)"
Create a similar rule for your Work email.

  • Why does Thunderbird keep re-downloading e-mails I have already deleted?

I delete my e-mails and sometimes with-in minutes they are re-loaded. I have even tried deleting and then emptying my trash right away but that still doesn't work. It is very annoying to have to delete the same e-mails repetedly. I use POP.

If they are not being downloaded again just reappearing then maybe you have not been compacting your folders on a regular basis.
As it is unknown whether the Inbox has any corruption, please do the following.
Suggest you move all good emails out of the Inbox into suitable folders for organising and Delete unwanted emails.
    Empty Trash and Junk folders.
    Then, when Inbox is empty:
    File > select: Compact folders.

,I wonder if anyone can advise. I have active sync set up on iphone 4 and it works perfectly! The only problem being is that it downloads all messages since I set it up despite having set the settings in general account options on the iphone to "show 25 messages" and the exchange account is set to sync "1 day"
is there any way of just having a days emails sat on my iphone as I do with gmail as I now have 160 emails in my exchange account on the iphone. If I delete any , of course I lose them from the server!

Look at you "My Settings" on the right of the page.
    Make sure for these options:

Always subscribe to topics I reply to: Yes No
That both are set to NO

  • Not all Yahoo email downloaded

I just set up my first mac. I can connect to my yahoo email but it only downloaded the first 375 of 6,000 emails. I have clicked on the get mail button but I just get a "no mail" noise.
I can see all of my emails on my Yahoo web account so I know they are on the server.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. Solving this problem will probably require removing one or more messages from the server.
You may tell Mail to remove from the server all the messages that have already been downloaded by means of Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. Alternatively, you may use the Account Info window to remove specific messages from the server — choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window, but I don’t recommend you to try to use that feature with so many messages on the server. If the account allows web access, you may also remove messages from the server that way.
Try removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded and/or the first message not downloaded yet (i.e. the message that Mail appears to be choking on).
You may want to try to download those messages with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them — and use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to import them back into Mail afterwards if you wish. If you set up the account in Thunderbird, refuse to download anything when asked to do so immediately after setting up the account (so that you can customize the server settings first), then in the account’s Server Settings turn ON Leave messages on server if you don’t want the messages to be removed from the server as a result of downloading them with Thunderbird.

  • HT201342 What is the mail server for iCloud users? I lost all my emails, trouble with email account set-up.

I lost all me emails, what is mail set-up? Mail.me.com?

Incoming is imap.mail.me.com.  Outgoing is smtp.mail.me.com (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864).  But if you're setting up iCloud mail on OS X Lion or higher, you go to Settings>iCloud and check Mail.  This will add the account with the proper settings.

  • IOS7 update - it reset all my emails to unread

I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS7 today but it reset all my emails in the Mail app to being unread, even the ones not downloaded to my phone.  How can I change it so it only thinks new emails are unread?  I know about the 'Mark All' then 'Read', but that only does a handful of messages at a time.  It thinks all the emails in my account - thousands of them - are unread.  Since the phone only fetches a certain number of emails at a time, it would take forever to fetch them all to my phone, and I don't want all of them locally anyway.
    Thanks!

Same here but weird.  I have 4 POP accounts set up and no iCloud email, gmail, yahoo, etc... They are all my own domain POP accounts.
At first, it said 11,000 unread emails in my "All Inboxes" box.  Selected ALL and mark as "read".  It cleared most of them out, but one account still remains with 4,000 unread emails.  All of the accounts are hosted by godaddy, and they are all set up using the same settings, but for some reason, it is still seeing the one account as all unread.
Interesting development though...  Here is what my account list looks like when I go to email app:
    All Inboxes               4,053
    Email A                   4,053
    Email B
    Email C
    Email D
Email A will not clear unread emails.  I deactivated Email A, and then I got...
    All Inboxes                2,341
    Email B                    2,341
    Email C
    Email D
And now Email B won't clear.  I re-activated Email A after a hard restart, and now I have...
    All Inboxes               4,053
    Email A                   4,053
    Email B
    Email C
    Email D
AGAIN!  Email A won't clear but Email B is now clear again.  It appears that the first email box in the hierarchy is the one that will not clear unread messages.  WEIRD!
Obviously a bug that needs to be worked out and no solution because of settings.  Hopefully bug guys read this and get it sorted out.
Another question - it didn't download ALL of these emails to my phone did it??  Thats the most important!  Had it originally set to 100 most recent emails per account.

  • Move emails from apple mail to windows outlook

    Hello Everyone,
I have recently bought a windows laptop as majority companions in my office have windows only. I also have mac book pro having apple mail as my e-mail client. I work in a small company in which e-mail is the life blood of our company. So now what I need to do is move all my emails from apple mail to outlook that is present in windows laptop. I haven't found any answers or discussions regarding this topic on this forum site. Can any one please help me get over with this problem or atleast guide me or direct me to the forum where solution for this query is posted.
Your help will be really appreciated. Thank you.

If both system are using the IMAP mail provider all you have to do is setup the connection to the mail server and all the emails and folders will be copied down to the windows computer. That is what IMAP is for. The mail stays on the server, and can be store on the local computer also, and when you connect to the server with another device, computer, phone or pad, all the mail with folders gets copied to the other device.
But I think some of your mail was gotten using POP so it is not longer on the server.
Or you have emails in local folder only and they would be on the server. But you can create folder on the server in one mail program, or on the mail web interface and then copy those emails into those folder on the server byt copying them in one of the email programs. Then when you logon with the other device all of them will be downloaded to the other device.
    SteNash wrote:
Sorry but this didn't work. I have around 4000 mails in some what 45 folders. Using IMAP i can transfer only one file at a time, that will take me days to transfer that amount of files.
Are there any other options available...???

  • How to capture all the email addresses from the drop down  lists

I would like to capture all the email addresses that mail has captured and gives you as a prompt when you start to enter and an address...is there a way to do this ? Does anyone know where all these email addresses live ?
    Thanks matt

For that program, it says it will import from CSV files, in which case once you add the email address and name to Address Book, you can create a new group for that purpose and add everyone you want to that group. Then select the group and drag it to the Desktop to create one vCard file with all those contacts.
The go to this URL in Firefox (it won't work in Safari): <http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/> and use the online vCard converter to convert that file to a CSV file. Be sure to add a header line if Interspire requires it in the file to import it, and check the results in Excel or Numbers before you import it.

Go to Mail Preferences>Accounts, click the '+' button below the list of accounts and insert the settings, username and password as instructed. Some account types can be set up automatically as soon as Mail knows the emails address (because the server settings are built in), in other cases you will have to get them from your ISP.

Use your PC to sign-on to your mail service using the browser interface they provide. Delete all the e-mails you don't want on the server. That will prevent the iPad from downloading them.

  • I need to download all my emails from an html server account and archve them on my PC. How?

I have a paid email account on Spamcop, which will be shut down in a few days. I want to download all my emails, inbox and sent-mail, to my PC and archive them -- before deleting them from the server. I currently have a "mirror" of the server in Thunderbird; but I don't want to lose any of those emails when I clean off the server.
What do I need to do to accomplish this?
PS: I'm a new user who hasn't had a PC-based email client for at least 8 years.

Move all messages to your 'Local Folders' account. You can create folders underneath 'Local Folders' to mirror any folder structure you may have on the server.
To move messages to Local Folders:
Select the messages to be moved on the server.
Right-click the selected messages - choose 'Copy To'
    Select 'Local Folders' as destination.
Once the messages have been successfully copied to your disk you can delete them on the server.

  • Is there a way to show only flagged email on iOS Mail?

I use Exchange 2007 at work with Outlook 2010.  I also use my iPad to connect to my company Outlook Web Access.  On the iPad I am able to mark a message as flagged.  I use the flag on a message to indicate that there's some action that I need to take on the email.  After I skim my inbox and flag all the emails with actionable items in them I go to my smart folder in Outlook which shows only my flagged messages so I can focus on those with actionable items.  I noticed on IOS Mail there does not seem to be such smart folders and there seems to be no way to view only messages which are flagged.
Can someone please explain how to do this on the iPad.  It is very important to me.  In fact, it's so important, that I would switch to Windows Phone platform just to have this one feature.
    Thanks!

I too would love to filter my inbox down to just flagged emails - I'm on iPad 3 with latest iOS, though it seems latest OS is not the problem, but rather a simple oversight in usability, and more important productivity.
On the note of productivity, why does it take SO MANY clicks to flag an email on iPad mail? Have to hit Edit > mark the email > Mark > Flag. I count three superfluous taps there. There should be a swipe action on the left (much like the swipe and Delete on the right hand side of the email heading) for flagging. And a simple little flag symbol at the top to hit when I want to see only flagged mails. Productivity should be the name of the game.
I also realise that venting in this forum probably isn't the best place for it...
