All my ipod files were erased during an upload

I have never had trouble uploading my ipod until this morning when I was putting several new albums on it, it said they were done uploading so when I clicked on my ipod in iTunes to check if all of them were there, and it hadn't actually done anything. During an upload it said that an artwork file was corrupted. I looked at my iPod and the 'do not disconnect' message was frozen, so I unplugged it and restarted it. When I turned it back on and went to my music, everything was gone instead of the files I just tried to upload. I was using my ipod as a hard drive so none of my files were backed up. I always have had it manually upload songs onto it instead of it automatically copying my library on this computer. I know that my other files are pretty much lost but how did this happen? If it was a specific file how do I locate it and if I don't delete it, will it happen again? I'm so mad right now, I had a 9 hour flight tommorow and I lost over 2000 songs.

Hello Michael,
See this older thread from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the various methods for transferring content from your iPod to your computer.

    Relax, they weren't converted to PDF.
    You can tell by right clicking ANY of them and choosing "Properties". You'll see there that they're STILL .xls or .xlsx files. The "association" has changed and Windows now indicates that they open with Reader, which isn't right.
    Where it says "Open With" under the General tab, you can click "Change" and re-select Excel as the default app to open thim.

  • Migration Assistant - All of the files were not transferred

    I transferred all the user files, settings and applications using migration assistant. I went from an intel iMac to a newer intel iMac. Snow Leopard to Lion. I checked everything in the migration assistant except for the iPhoto library of one of the users because it was too big for the main hard drive of the new computer. I copied it manually to the secondary hard drive.
    At the end of the migration a window said that not all of the files were transferred and I should check to make sure I have everything I need. (I'm not sure the exact wording). Below that it said that a static IP was transferred and I should not have both the old computer and the new one on the network with the same IP.
    Do you think it's just referring to the iPhoto library when it says all files were not transferred? Or could there be something else. Is there a log that I can look at that will tell me what might not have transferred?
    As far at the IP thing, I changed the static IP on the new computer so that's fine.

    Hard to say. I suggest that you peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and determine if you did things the right way.

  • After clicking "restore" in iTunes, all of my contacts were erased.

    After clicking "restore" in iTunes, all of my contacts were erased. All of my text messages and apps were left alone though. Is there any way I can get them all back?

    When restoring an iPhone with iTunes, the iPhone is completely erased. The first step is updating the iPhone's backup with a prompt to update the backup or skip the update. Contacts are included with the backup but so is a significant amount of other data. Sounds like there is a problem with the backup in regards to the contact info.
    Not a good idea to depend on an iPhone or any cell phone alone for such important data which can be lost or stolen. Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer and there are a number of free email accounts that support syncing contacts over the air. Apple's iCloud account is one, Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail are others.

  • Time Machine restore didn't work, all of my files were restored to a hidden part of my HDD. What should I do?

    I recently had my HDD wiped out at the Apple Store. Before doing this I did a complete time machine backup to an external Lacie drive. I had Snow Leopard reinstalled on my laptop and on booting the OS for the first time, my external drive wasn't recognized. I opened the migration assistant and the drive wasn't found either (but it showed up in the Finder and all of my files were accessible). It eventually opened in the Time Machine utility but when I restored to the last backup date, it saved to a folder called "Volumes," and nothing changed on my laptop. None of my files can be found on my HDD, none of my old settings are intact, but my drive is completely filled. I don't know where the files were saved to or what went wrong in the restore. Can anybody help me?

    Yeah, thanks a lot from me too! I had exactly the same problem, but now things seem to be fine. Apple should pay you, since you do their job!

  • Re: camera connection kit- I uploaded pictures using the sandisk connection, clicked on 10 pics to delete and ALL of my files were deleted from the sandisk! Is there any way to recover these pics?

    Kevin-
    You say you uploaded the pictures to the iPad?  Then they should still be there, and you can copy them to your computer through iTunes.
    There are utility programs for a computer that can recover deleted files from hard drives, and they may work for camera memory cards as well.  I've used DiskWarrior for Macintosh to recover pictures from an SD card before.

  • HT1386 After syncing my iphone I found that all of my notes were erased from the phone.  Is there any way to retrieve the notes now that they have been erased?

    After syncing my iphone I found that all of my notes were erased from the phone.  Is there any way to retrieve the notes now that they have been erased?  I had some very important notes that I have to be able to find.  Anyone know how?

    I think those contacts still in iphone database. So you can back up you iphone with itunes to get iphone database off your iphone. Then access the SQLite batabse.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    All data included with the backup is stored in a SQLite database format with the data within various folders not easily accessible.There are some 3rd party utilities that provide for extracting select data from an iPhone's backup and iphone database such as this one.

  • CPI file HELP!!!  I have a huge problem.  I just discovered that the files that have been downloaded from my Canon VIXIA HF100 camcorder are all ".cpi" files.  The worst part is that the files were erased from the memory card and camera.  HELP!

    So basically I cannot redownload any of the files (which are all my daughter's videos from birth through age 2) and am stuck with just the CPI versions.  Is there a way to convert them?  If not, are there any programs that will play CPI files?  I had downloaded a free player a few months ago, but now I cannot find anything anywhere.  PLEASE HELP!  Thanks!

    CPI files were originally a proprietory Sony format. You can read more about that here, including details of the applications that can convert them:

  • When I updated the software on my ipod 4 touch, many podcasts were erased. When I synced the ipod, they were erased from the ipod also. The current itunes does not allow me to go back to these dates (a few months) and re-download? Can I? and prevent this?

    When I upgraded the software on my ipod touch4, many podcasts were deleted from itunes. Of course, when I synced the ipod, they were deleted from the ipod as well. Apparently the current version of itunes will not let me go back to these earlier episodes (just a few months), in a podcast that I have been subscribed to, and re-download them. Is there a way to do that? and, how can I prevent this from happening again?

    Hey! I had the same problem you did just today when I was trying to get my second iPhone to sync. What you need to do with music or anything extra that you doing you have to creat a second playlist or picture or anything that you would like to use, so that you can add to the second device that you are going to be using. I am not sure if that will help but it helped me out a lot!! Good luck!

  • Why if I need a new battery will apple erase all my iPod files??

    I don't understand why this is. Why when the Apple store guy told me I needed a new battery and I asked him "So all my files on the pod will be there when I get it back from you guys" did he say "No, it's going to be a NEW iPod"....WHAAA? Why is it new? Why can't they just fix MY iPod and send it back to me with the files intact? The battery shouldn't have anything to do with the hard drive files. It makes no sense, and I have a wonderful iPod classic 80 gig that's pretty much useless to me on the go, unless it's plugged into a charger.

    Well Jeff, the blame for a new battery can be placed on my boyfriend. We were discussing a program for sucking the songs of one Ipod in order to put it on another (like what Yamipod does) because he had done it before, with a friend of his, but he didn't know what program his friend had used. Rather than call the friend an ask (God forbid!) he went out to Target, bought a crappy 20 dollar waste-of-money program in a crappy box called Tune Tools, and then when all was said and done, the program didn't work, and now I'm out a battery. Funny, because he also hooked up my old 15 gigger and his 60 gigger and they're just PEACHY. Of course because I use this pod like it was my oxygen supply, it's all jacked up. Now I'm so upset by this news of losing all my stuff (even though DB has generously offered to replace my pod as he SHOULD) I don't want to do anything at all but just use my old 15. The 80 gig works just FINE as long as it's plugged in to a charger, but the minute you remove it, 10 seconds later it dies. Which makes me being able to watch movies or show friends photos on the go...an impossibility now. Yes, I can use Sharepod (what we found AFTER this debacle to work just fine) and get my stuff back on my pod, but I also have to get some stuff off my father's mac, as I used it and iTunes way before I got this Dell. I'm just heartsick I guess. Blah.

  • All of my files were deleted. How do I get them back?

    Recently I logged on to the computer and I could not find any of the files I was looking for. How do I get them back?

    If all your files are missing
    You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
    If files are missing from one folder
    Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.

  • File being erased during input output stream

    I am trying to send a .txt to an ftp server. The application will send the file but it is empty on the server end AND my original! The file is still there but is 0 kb with all data deleted. I cant seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?
    try{
    URL url = new URL("ftp://username:[email protected]/file.txt;type=i");
        URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
        BufferedInputStream in =
        new BufferedInputStream(con.getInputStream());
        FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("file.txt");
    int i = 0;
    byte[] bytesIn = new byte[1024];
    while ((i = in.read(bytesIn)) >= 0) {
         out.write(bytesIn, 0, i);
    out.close();
    in.close();
         catch(Exception nio){System.out.println(nio);}

    I am trying to send a .txt to an ftp server.There's the problem right there. The code you posted copies data FROM the server TO your local system.

  • Firefox stuck in endless loop asking to restart to finish previous update but does nothing. Can uninstall or install newer version over it. I believe the setup files were erased before reboot by another installer. How do i fix this?

    Anything i try related to firefix gets "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox" I have tried rebooting no luck, i have tired uninstalling from add remove programs or installing 4.0 over it. At the time I was try to upgrade from 3.0 to 3.6.15. I tried searching for the xpicleanup.dat file but no luck there.
    Any suggestions to get firefox back up and running

    I was having the same problem, so I deleted 'firefox.exe.moz-upgrade' from 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox' directory, as recommended. Now it no longer says it needs a restart to complete a previous installation. It says it needs a restart to complete a previous uninstall. What do I do now? Help!
