All my Nikon .xmp files are tagged as Final Cut Pro files!

Using Aperture, all the .xmp files are incorrectly tagged by Snow Leopard as FCP files. Because I run FCP on this machine too, I can't see how to change this to whatever files they should be tagged as (because my FCP project files will be change by that same action).
Any suggestions? TIA, KL

It shouldn't matter if the OS is misassociating those files. You aren't going to be opening them in an app by double-clicking them right? Are you having any actually problems in usage?
No, no problems in use—but I would like to know why this is happening. Before I installed Aperture, my .xmp files were not tagged with a particular program; they simply were the metadata files.
The problem is that when I access the NEF files that are associated with the metadata files (via Preview, for example), FCP opens with its latest project. I would prefer if the metadata files were recognised as just that, and not have FCP open in the background. Any suggestions? TIA

  • Livetype files are pixelated in final cut pro

everytime i make livetype graphic it get pixelated or distorted in final cut pro 6.0.6 when i put it in the sequence it looks fine in the viewer. i have never had this issue before and have tried everything i can think of.

LiveType defaults to 720x486, in FCP, DV is 720x480. If you import the .ipr LiveType project directly, or render a movie out and bring that in, FCP will resize it to fit, resulting in a somewhat blurry movie. Double click on your LiveType clip in you Timeline, then in the viewer, check the Motion tab to ensure it's at 100%, and that any offset is an integer.

  • Are microsoft movie maker files compatible with final cut pro files?

I would like to know if microsoft movie maker files are compatible with Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks,
    elemir

depends on how you're outputting. .wmv I don't think so.That's pretty much a dead end format.  mp4 might be, but i'm not sure if movie maker outputs them. .avi might be, depends on the codec used.
Avoid .wmv, apple products don't play well with that format (never have) and aim for some other output type. Then on your mac, if you don't already have it, if you don't already have it, get the free converter mpegstreamclip and see if it can convert your movie maker output into something final cut will input. DV files are good, as are .mov files.

  • Xml tag defaults to Final Cut Pro file

I seem to be noticing that anything that is downloaded onto my Mac with an xml tag, ends up defaulting to a Final Cut Pro file. This has occurred on everything from music files, docs and pics, past and present.
Where and How do i change that (fix/correct) for all current and future files?
mac Mini Intel Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Maxplanar, Thanks!!
never thought to just rename to .mov, it's always the simplest thing! i recently learnt about .dmg to .iso in certain cases, i never thought a simple suffix change like this would be the solution, just assumed FCP quicktime files were FC read only!
Many Thanks for the help, it should all be straightforward from now on!! as straightforward as any typical PAL > NTSC Conversion is anyway!!
    Cheers!

  • Can files be exported from Final Cut Pro X trial?

Can files be exported from Final Cut Pro X trial?

It doesn't seem to work on mine, when I go to command: the export button is in grey, whereas all the others (import; customize) are black and can be actionned. Is this a restriction in the trial version or is there a way to activate export?
    Thanks

  • Can Final Cut Express open Final Cut Pro files?

I am wishing to edit a Final Cut Pro file that is saved to a hard drive, but I olny have Final Cut Express. Will I be able to open the Pro file with Final Cut EXpress? If not, is there any way I could open the file?

I did this, as instructed, but when I got home to see if my FCE would open the file, it didn't even recognize it as a standard file. When I tried to force it, it just brought up an error message. I do have all the related media files on my drive. Anything I'm missing here? Thanks so much!

  • I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects

I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects. When I select import and then either files or folders, I am able to navigate to the drive where the media is being stored, but then when I scroll to locate the files or folders the drive disappears. This problem began as an intermittent problem, but now I cannot import any files or folders. This problem started when I upgraded my operating system to Yosemite version 10.10.2 on my mid-2010 Mac Pro running with 16 GB of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. Can anyone help me figure out and solve this serious problem? Thanks!

Then just drag the files/folders from your hard drive into FCP.  Don't use the IMPORT option...just drag and drop.
The problem started when you installed an OS that doesn't support FCP 7.  So if you want things to work smoothly, it's best to go back to an OS that did support FCP 7. Yosemite was written without taking FCP 7 functionality in mind, so it isn't fully functional. It might not do one thing for someone...but works for you in that respect. But then you can't do something else. The ways it doesn't work is always random.  Or it might work great for some people, because they don't use functions that might no longer work....so they don't notice it.

  • Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

FCE only works with DV for standard definition and the Apple Intermediate Codec for HD. Most FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

  • Can Final Cut Express edit Final Cut Pro files

I have some Final Cut Pro files that I created while working for someone else, if I buy Final Cut Express, will I be able to open and edit them?
There basic files, nothing real fancy if that matters...
    Thanks!
    R-

Officially no. It may work, but you're rolling the dice. The newer the version of FCP the less likely it is to work.

  • How should I move all of my Final Cut Pro files to an external drive?

My MacBook Pro doesn't have enough space to hold all of my Final Cut Pro X files (my internal hard drive is only 120GB), and I bought an external hard drive that has 120GB capacity too but want to move all of my FCP files to that drive. What exactly should I be moving? Do I move the application itself? And how do I tell FCP where to find all of my media? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, I'm relatively new to Macs.
    Thanks!

The application remains in the Applications folder.
The best way is to copy the projects by duplicating them to the new drive. Do that from inside the application. Duplicate the projects with all referenced events. When all the projects and media have been copied and are working correctly then you can delete them from your internal drive.
Caution: make sure the media is actually in the events you're duplicating. If not, use the organize events function, or you will lose the media.

  • Self Contained Final Cut Pro Export Files unreadable in New Final Cut Pro 7

Has anyone come across this? I was using Final Cut Pro 5, created a self contained file of a current project 1.9GB in size. Uploaded the new version of Final Cut Pro 7 and upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now it tells me that this is unrecognizable as a movie file. Quicktime or Final Cut Will not open this file. I'm puzzled.

    Hi VideoJunkie
I have not come across this. However, my previous FCP 6 Self-Contained Exported ProRes 422 standard (not HQ) files which are actually 1440 x 1080 will only playback in the new QT version 10 using that aspect ratio (whatever the actual screen ratio is at 1440 x 1080, I'm not sure, but the video width is squashed together... I suppose it has something to do with showing it in square pixels versus rectangle... or do I have that turned around. I'm not sure, I have always been confused about the ProRes 1440 x 1080 format, all I know is it plays back properly in 1920 x 1080 when I transcode it for DVD or ATV, iPhone etc..). In any case, you need QT player 7 (standard or pro version) to display these files at the intended aspect ratio of 1920 x 1080. The old QT Pro player version 7 will let you change this in the properties window, but the QT 7 standard player will not let you (those options are grayed out) and the new QT X player doesn't even show these options (i.e totally unavailable).
Also, these previous files will play just fine (for me anyway) in FCP version 7. If you having a different issue where they will not play at all, then I'm not sure how to help you, but I just wanted you to be aware that my old self-contained files from FCP 6 do work (for me anyway) in the new FCP7 under Snow Leopard.
(ADDED) I must ask, what codec were your previous exported self-contained QT movies? Do you have this codec on the commuter your trying to play your old master self-contained exports on?

  • Old Final Cut Pro Files

My wife made some video's in art school on the universities Final Cut Pro back in 2001. She copied all the files to CD. she currently wants to view these, but I am not sure if they are viewable.
Do I have to buy a copy of Final Cut Pro to figure this out?
The files mean a lot to her.

What happened when you opened them in the QT player on your Mac?
    Did they play or not?

  • Software Updates Missing and File Not opening in Final Cut Pro

    Hi Experts,
I am having trouble with Final Cut Pro. Here goes:-
I tried to load up a FCP file called "Overview" in Lesson One of the Apple Pro Training Series book called "Color". The file would not open and I got the following message alert in FCP:
"File's format is too new for this version of the application".
I am running FCP 6.0.1 and so went to check for software updates. I could not find any listed for FCP. I did a quick internet search to make sure and found there were indeed updates to 6.0.1.
    So I guess I have 2 problems:
    1. Why won't a file from a book that was published before I bought FCP work on my app?
    2. Why can't I see updates for FCP in the Software Update application?
I am mega stuck with this. I have read of similar problems to mine on the internet but have found no solution. I hope that you will be able to help me out.
    Thank you all,
    Bob

    Hi Nick!
Thanks for your reply. I feel kinda silly now but I have been continuously checking Software Update for 24hrs and I just got a new addition to the list which was called "Pro Applications Update 2008-05".
Seeing something new, I installed it and it upgraded my Final Cut Applications including FCP to version 6.0.5.
    The file then opened.
I am truly sorry to have taken your time up. As when I posted last time Nick, you were very prompt and helpful.
    All the best,
This problem is solved for me and I hope all the other people having this problem find this update as luckily as I just did.

  • Captions Are Disappearing in Final Cut Pro X

Here's my problem.  I'm currently using Final Cut Pro X to put together a 40 min movie.  This movie includes various video clips as well as still images.  Naturally there is a need for many captions/subtitles.  However, when I'm finished for the day and close everything out, the next day upon opening up Final Cut Pro X again, i've found that many of my captions have returned to the default view.  For instance, my caption may have said, "Johnny enjoys a day at the park."  But upon returning, it says "title."  I'm spending countless hours perfecting these captions only to find that they have to be redone.  This will be the third time having to do this.  The crazy thing is, not all of them do this.  What is the problem here?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm finding myself having to leave my mac on 24/7 in order to keep this from happening, but even that is impossible to continue.

I'm having exactly the same problem with a ten minute movie.
Some captions revert to "title" and keep the formatting that I'd set. Some revert to the default font and size.
A very few of them are saved as I created them.
If I had the responsibility of saving my work as I go along, I could blame myself if changes weren't saved, but the program is supposed to be keeping track of every change I make.
    Very frustrating.
    Help please.

  • Exporting .Mov files at 24fps for Final Cut Pro 5

I work at an animation production house and we're trying to export .mov files from QT 7.1.2 at 24fps so they won't have to be rendered in a FCP project which is a 720p project with a frame size of 1280x720, we're experimenting with two codecs. We're using Motion Jpeg A and Photo Jpeg, selecting 24fps but for some reason they import into FCP 5 at 10fps. It's as though QT isn't outputting accurate 24fps .mov files. When I export .mov files from FCP they import back into FCP without having to be rendered. What's the difference between the ones exported from QT vs. the .mov files exported from FCP. We're using the exact same settings and files....? The reason we need to use QT to do this is because it needs to be a somewhat automated process (lots of stills to work with) and our PA's are working on Windows with QT only.

You should post your inquiry at Final Cut Pro section for better support. Anyway, Final Cut Pro does not always recognize the frame rate correctly, depending on which application (and possibly which codec) you used to compress video. For example, Snapz Pro X and Adobe After Effects don't get along with Final Cut Pro in this respect. Furthermore, compressing video in H.264 will be a bad idea. So simply adjust the size of Canvas so that it won't cover the whole screen. In this way, you can even replay video on Canvas and even send it for final production.
