All my playlists are suddenly empty overnight.

In the past four months, iTunes has gradually been asking to authorize my computer for more and more of my songs from an old, invalid email address.  It's doing this for more and more of these.  Even though I remember the password, put it in, try to authorize, and then it tells me it's already authorized.  Then when I try to play the song, it asks again.  This has been happening to more and more of my songs, even some I know I purchased with my newest Apple ID.  I have been unable to fix this with helps from the community.  Nothing works.  I had a bug (From MacKeeper, thanks very much), an Apple store had to recover all my files, and it's happened since then. So, for the past four months, all my music has been gradually becoming inaccessible.  I have been in chemotherapy since July, so unable to get it to the Core.  When my computer shut down back in June when I was in the middle of a bunch of surgeries, and they had to retrieve files, they said I would have issues, but I had no idea it would wipe out all my music, thousands of dollars worth, plus original music written and performed by my own children, GONE.   Of course, I should have backed up to an external hard drive, but whenever I tried, the files would copy onto the drive.  Then I would try to import them into iTunes to make sure it would work and again iTunes would say I wasn't authorized.
Should I just do a gut check and toss this computer and start over from scratch?  I hate to be a curmudgeon, but I am about ready to go back to CDs.

Wow, I guess it just takes a while after reopening. It's all there again. Gave me a scare. Thanks anyway!

  • After upgrade to v12 all my playlists are now empty

    thanks for that. really helpful.
or is this another hidden setting i've got root around to find.

    yes.
cleared it and now it's ok.
what i was doing was toggling between playlists and limiting my main music display with a search so i could grab them and drop them into a new playlist.
is there a way to set the search to only work for certain folders.
ie i want 'music ' to show 'lemon kittens' but if i go to a playlist i want to show everything in that playlist and ignore the search bar.

  • I just updated the new iTunes and now all my playlists are gone!! What the heck?!

All my playlist are gone from itunes with the new update. If I click on "sync" it asks me to erase all my music and videos... Is there a way to avoid doing this? Thanks.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • All my files folder suddenly empty, what to do?

all my files folder suddenly empty, what to do?

    Kiara19,
What do you see in Finder when you try to open such a folder. If you see a big blue folder icon, then there is something mixed up with your user privileges.
Highlight the folder, and press CMD+I to get the info window.
At the bottom of that window is a section called "Sharing & Permissions". In there you'll see some users and the Privilege associated with that user. If you have the Privilege of 'Read only' then you need to change this to 'Read & Write'.
To do this, click on the closed lock-icon at the bottom right of the info window. You'll be asked to enter your administrator username and password (mostly these are the same as your login credentials). After that, you can change the privilege of the user to 'Read & Write'.
Before closing the info window, also tick the gear-icon on the bottom of the info window and select 'Apply to enclosed items...'. Depending on how many files and subfolders there are in this folder, it might take some time to change all privileges.
After all changes are done you can close the info window, and all your files should be visible to you again.
I hope this solved your issue.

  • After all the updates (itunes 10.6, iphone 5.1, and iphoto) all my photos are suddenly being synced with my iPhone.

After all the updates (itunes 10.6, iphone 5.1, and iphoto) all my photos are suddenly being synced with my iphone. Before I was able to pick the "last 12 months" or last import, or certain album. Now everything is greyed out?

After deleting files, there does not seem much improvement on the disk space.
    Felicia,
Download Omni Disk Sweeper: it is free now and will list your files and folders sorted by size.
But don't get carried away and sweep and delete anything that you do not know what is is required for:

I recovered from time machines's backup harddisk
Time Machine may be using the disk space - if you have Time Machine enabled and not the backup drive connected, TM will make local snapshots, if you have free disk space. See Pondini's webpage for more information: Time Machine - Questions 30. What are Local Snapshots?
I disable these local snapshots on my portable macs, to be sure, how much space really is free.

  • Ever Since iCloud and HOmesharing, my playlists are completely empty and also most of my music has an exclamation point next it and when I click "get Info" and "find", it says it can't be found...

...I am really upset.  I waited a long time before calling tech support b/c I knew it was going to be a nightmare.  I'm 2 hours into a call with no resolution....
MOST OF MY MUSIC FILES HAVE AN EXCLAMATION POINT NEXT TO THEM. Many were from 100s of cds I've burned over the years (ever since the first iPod came out), and the rest were iTunes purchases. I can't tell which is which at this point but in my iPhone, on our iPods, on my iPad2, and my iMac....all of my playlists are empty.  I distraught....It's years of building.  Please someone, help me!

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

  • I went on iTUnes after not using it for awhile and all my playlists are gone. How can I find them?

    Hi Apple community ---
I went on iTunes after not using it for awhile and my old playlists are all gone.  My library seems intact, but I don't have a record of  my playlists, except for what's in my iPod.  I'm afraid to sync them to get the playlists back into my computer, becuase the last time I synced my iphone it erased all my contacts from both my iphone and my computer, and I don't want the sync operation to remove the playlists from the iPod as well.
I don't have any music on my iPhone, so the two devices in question are just the iTunes program on the computer (it's a Dell with Windows Vista) and my 160 GB iPod classic.
    Thanks for your help!!!

  • All my podcasts are suddenly deleted !!

I have the latest version of iTunes .. and my iPhone 4s is running the latest iOS .. It had less than 1 GB of free storage .. I was syncing my device and suddenly all my podcasts are gone from my iTunes, iPhone and even from my hard disk .. This is really annoying .. any solution guys??

On the *Now Playing* screen, if you cannot see the scrubber bar (with the time into the epsiode) tap the screen briefly to make it show up. Then, on the right hand side of the scrubber bar overlay, just below the time remaining, you'll see a blue box with x2 in it. This means "play Podcasts at double speed".
Tap the box twice, first time it will switch to half speed and second time to get it to x1, or normal playback speed.

  • Not all iTunes playlists are syncing on my iPhone

These are not Smart Playlists, just plain vanilla manual playlists. iPhone 5 with latest iOS installed. Windows 7 with latest iTunes installed. I've removed the Music Library entirely from the iPhone, then re-synced with the "Entire Music Library" radio button selected, but still only about half of my 12 or so playlists are showing up on the iPhone. Suggestions?

  • Facebook App all my contacts are suddenly gone

Very strange- All my contacts are gone from the iPhone FB app. This happened a few days ago. They're still on the browser version from the laptop. Does anyone know if there's some oddity FB is having with the iOS app? Pretty sure I'm using the latest release. The rest of the app seems to be syncing fine.

The FB app is notorious for being bad, just look at the reviews and rating.  Try deleting the app and installing it back and see if that helps resolve your issue.

  • My Ipod shows it is linked to a different Apple ID and all my playlists are gone from the only Apple ID I have, What can I do to not loose the music on my ipod?

My daughter shares an Ipod account with me and it has worked fine for years until recently.  All of my music and playlists have vanished and only hers remain.  When I plug my Ipod in a window pops up stating my ipod is linked to a another Itune account and I can either erase and sync or copy purchased music over.  I have never started a different Itune account and most of my music is collected from CD's that are not saved to my computer.  How do I keep my music and still be able to add more?

You need to sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again with the new password

  • Updated to iTunes 11, all my playlists are gone, is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?

    Hi,
I have just updated to iTunes 11, once I opened itunes I noticed all my music, books, programs and app's had disapeared. Luckily for me I have everything backed up, except for my playlists.
Is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?
And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
    Thanks

And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
Your playlists and other info is stored in the "iTunes Library..ITL" file in your My Documents\My Music\iTunes directory, if you regularly back up that file you are safe. Also just to be sure also backup the iTunes Library.xml which is located in the same directory.

  • ALL MY FILES is suddenly empty, also my MAC not seeing my printer or disc burner.

Suddenly "all my files" is empty and in "about this mac" storage no longer breaks down the types of files by color, everything is yellow indicating "Other".LION os has been fine for some time but now this, and at the same time that this occured my mac also stopped seeing my external disc burner and my printer. I have tried unplugging, rebooting, holding down power button and various other remedies suggested in forums to no avail.I can't help thinking that this is all related to something simple that I am missing and not the beginning of a major issue. Can someone please advise. Much appreciated. Sam.

I disagree with Richard, hardware is probably the last thing I would think of in this case.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but run a couple tests to help narrow it down.  First, try booting in safe mode...  do you still have the same problem?  Also try creating a new user (in System Preferences -> Users & Groups) and logging in as that user...  do you still have the same problem?
